Itunes 10.6 crash sort-of fix?

i know there's a lot of people out there who have had difficulty with itunes 10.6 crashing when they try to open it. it quits immediately upon launch. after much messing about i've found a temporary solution to the problem that DOESN'T involve a bunch of downloading, uploading, re-installing etc. i know this won't solve everyone's problem. some people are reporting problems with movies etc. which i don't use on my itunes. but hopefully it will solve a number of people's problems until a new software update is issued.
first off when you go to open itunes and it crashes a window pops up saying the report has been sent to apple and you can either view the details of the report, "ok" it, or try and reopen itunes. reopen it, and if it continues to crash keep trying to reopen it. try and try and try. it might take a while but eventually (for me anyway) it finally opened and stayed open to my music with the "album cover view" sorting.
now what i've discovered is that the "album cover view" sorting itself is what is causing the crash for me and i'm guessing for a lot of people as well. for me, once i got to this point it didn't mean the issue was fixed. if i tried to scroll up and down through my albums on this page itunes would crash again. and i would have to do the whole re-open thing a billion times AGAIN.
instead of trying to do ANYTHING on this album cover view page do this instead. once you get itunes to reopen and STAY open to it guide your mouse to the top middle-right of the itunes window and change the way your albums/songs are displayed. there should be list view, album list view, album cover view (NO!), and album cover flow view (also possibly NO!). i changed mine to album list view, the second option, and i've had no trouble opening, playing, downloading, syncing, or anything else with itunes or my iphone. 100% no problems at all.
obviously this is a temporary fix and the greater problem needs to be fixed with an apple software update ASAP! but if you can live with viewing your albums and songs sorted in a less fancy way for the time being then i hope this fix works for you.
anyone have any questions or additional problems feel free to reply. i really hope this helps some people out there.

Right on, this approach worked.  I had to click another sort method multiple times while iTunes was trying to crash, but once ot took, iTunes was up and operating.  Well done!!

  • Fix for iTunes 11.4 crashing on Synch

I upgraded my iPad Air to iOS 8 and iTunes to 11.4.x.  During the synching of apps, iTunes crashed.  After some research, I found that the issue is related to the iOS 8 with iTunes 11.4.x PLUS:
I back up to a computer not the cloud and the all the files and folders on the computer are redistributed to a network server.
To resolve the synch dysfunction, I uninstalled from my computer iTunes 11.4, Apple Application Support, Software Update, Mobile Device and Bonjour.  I then reboot the computer and installed an older version of iTunes 11.03.0.54 (not so easy to find).  Reboot again.  Connected iPad to computer and iTunes opened and synched without issue.
Previously, I had uninstalled iTunes and the associated applications from my computer and then reinstalled 11.4.x without success.  The bug has to do with the combination of IOS 8, iTunes 11.4.x and the storage of iTunes files on a drive other than a local drive.

    Hello ofsoykan,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, iTunes in Windows crashes unexpectedly. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Itunes continues to crash and I get the Data Execution Prevention error from Windows and it shuts down. How do I fix my Itunes?? This startes happening after the Itunes update

Itunes continues to crash and I get a Data Execution Prevention error.

    Vista 64 bit
Many thanks. If you're still not launching after your complete uninstall/reinstall, we'll go searching for old QuickTime componentry stashed in non-standard locations on the PC.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Trying to sync music onto iPod but iTunes 11 keeps crashing

I am trying to sync my entire iTunes library music onto iPod but iTunes 11 keeps crashing (using Windows 8 laptop)
I have tried to do it manually in little chunk and also tried the auto sync method too.
I have restored my ipod to factory setting 12 times now and retry but just when I think I'm getting somewhere iTunes freezes in the middle of the sync and then tell me it "cannot copy  because of unknown error (-50)"
From then on my Ipod refuses to accept any more syncing, it may do one and then it freezes again, iTunes says there is an issue with iPod, so I run a scan fix, it is repaired but then iTunes wants me to "restore to factory settings" again, it's a never ending circle, I get it fixed, iTunes crashes and then I have to fix, restore and start all over again just to have the same thing happen all over again
I have read here and there that there seems to be a bug in iTunes 11 when it comes to syncing.
I don't know what else to do, except revert back to iTunes 10 but I don't know how to do that either.
Anyone else had same issue syncing their library over to their iPod and how I fix it?

    Hi, ktchinagirl.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple reason this issue could be happening.  I have included a couple troubleshooting resources below that may help resolve this issue.  Some of the articles are missing the steps for Windows 8, try the steps for Windows 7 as an alternative.
iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3219
    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
Try a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. An incorrectly set default packet size can cause this error. Contact the software manufacturer that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows:How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
This could be related to security software conflicts.  If the steps above have not resolved the issue, I would recommend going through the troubleshooting steps in the article below.

  • ITunes (latest version) crashes...iPod won't eject

When I connect my iPod Classic 160GB, iTunes launches but crashes immediately. I force-quit it because it won't run anyway, but then Finder won't let me eject my iPod (the iPod icon is grayed out on my desktop). In short, iTunes is unusable. Another thread cited an issue with iBooks and recommended uninstalling it by "changing the rights" (I have no idea what that means) and deleting it to fix the iTunes problem. OSX won't let me delete iBooks because "it is required by OSX). Any help would be appreciated.

Ahh, it seems that resetting the ipod fixed the problem. Carry on.

  • ITunes 10.6 crashes every time I connect a device to sync

I just upgraded to iTunes 10.6 in a normal mac software update yesterday.
Now I cannot sync any of my devices. 2 iPhone 4Ss and 1 iPad 1st gen.
Whenever I connect a device to sync, iTunes 'crashes unexpectedly'
I had to turn of wifi on the iPhone because wifi syncing caused the itunes to crash. I noticed my streaming music kept quitting and figured out it was the syncing that caused the 'unexpected quit's.
Music not playing is a minor inconvenience, but not syncing is a major problem in my household; where we share lots of info via sync. Can anyone help me with this bug?
I did notice there was an iOS 5.1 upgrade available for all my devices, and was able to install it on iPhone 1 and the iPad, but I cannot upgrade my wife's iPhone because I need to free up some space on it which requires, you guessed it, attaching it to my mac to access sync preferences.
    Any suggestions?
    McCracker

After much frustration, including trying to use time machine to get my old library back (doesnt work), I finally found a site that shows how to restore iTunes 10.5.3.  These instructions are pretty clear and easy to follow, but better yet, they work. http://untetheredjb.com/fix-itunes-10-6-crashing-on-mac-osx-leopard-and-lion. Very happy to have my devices synced again.  I dont think I'm going to do another iTunes upgrade for a while after this nightmare.

  • ITunes 11.2 crashes after recent update

I have iTunes 11 for Windows 7, after the most recent update I beleive, iTunes will now crash everytime I luanch it. When I fire up iTunes, it'll load my library then 15 seconds later iTunes will stop working and close out. I get no error message. Need help to fix this issue.
    Thanks

Scott, that's a fair question!  I incrementally made those adjustments over about 8 or 10 attempts as iTunes would crash not long after starting up.
When I would turn on iTunes, I could see on the "home page screen" that is was updating Genius and somehow I also noticed it was syncing or downloading Podcasts.  I had already deleted the Sync Services Folder and emptied the trash, yet it kept crashing.   I also would try and "x" out the Genius progress bar to stop it, but not long after it would crash.  So on another attempt, I started trying to "turn off" Genius via to the Store pull down menu .  It would appear to turn off, but by then iTunes would crash.   And when I restarted iTunes I would see Genius try to update or sync all over again, whatever it does, and I would check the Store pull down menu and Genius was still on.
The next thing I tried was after turning Genius off, I shut down iTunes, hoping to "Save" the setting as off.  I think that was how I succeeded in shutting off Genius.
In a mix of adjustments I also turned off what I could with the Podcasts.
It's been six hours now with no crashes, and I played a big high def movie file via ethernet out of my Mac Pro to Apple TV, so my iTunes 11.2.1 is basically in good shape.
    Good luck to everyone.

  • I start itunes and it crashes...

I've reinstalled and installed many times, followed all the guides how to fix it but it doesnt budge, for some reason it started working fine when I installed it in the beginning but when i pluged my ipod in and started to synch songs to it with itunes, my computer crashed, then every time i pluged my ipod in it crashed, then after a while of doing so, it finally let my ipod run fine on my comp but now my itunes crashes whenever I choose to run it.
Heres a picture of what it looks like in details.
    http://img401.imageshack.us/my.php?image=itunesprobelmoh8.png
Be nice if I can get some help on how to fix this. I wana update my ipod with my songs.

hmmmm. that 0x10001040 usually indicates a problem with your QuickTime. (iTunes needs a properly functioning QuickTime in order to work correctly.)
try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

  • ITunes 8.1 crashes upon startup

After updating to iTunes 8.1, it crashes upon startup. So I created an empty dummy library, went into prefs and unticked DJ and Genius (which is hailed as the fix in some discussion groups). I then deleted my library, created a new one, and re-imported my 136,000 songs. 20 hours later, after closing and restarting iTunes, it still crashes upon startup. I guess that this buggy version is incompatible with my hardware plus the large library. I would go back to version 8.02, however I have a new ipod Shuffle on order.
    Any better suggestions?

  • Itunes 11.01 crashes on updating match

    Hello
iTunes crashes every time it tries to accomplish the match-update.
    Crash-Reporter says:
    Crashed Thread:  21
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x000000011b689000
It is always near the end of step 2 (I admittedly got a huge library), and I wonder if it has to do with either the size of my library, or with a corrupt file?
Any hint how I could get close to the problem?
    Thanks much!
    david

I don't know the source of the problem but have figured out a workaround for this that's working for me.
    1. Turn off Match on any devices that receive it.
    2. Open iTunes. Go to iTunes Store and select Turn Off iTunes Match.
3  Now iTunes shouldn't crash. Add any songs you want. When you're through, go back to iTunes Store and turn iTunes Match back on.
    4. Turn on Match on all your devices.
Nothing started uploading until I turned Match back on my devices. I guess it has to be on on those devices.
At this point, after a long pause, iTunes should start matching and uploading songs without crashing.
I've been in touch with Apple support, who are very responsive but don't seem to have a clue how to fix what is apparently an increasing problem with iTunes 11.
Happy holidays, and I hope this works for you. Would love to hear if it did.

  • ITunes 11.2 crashes on my PC

I hope I am just not finding the discussion about iTunes 11.2 crashing on Windows 7 systems. I accepted the download from Apple, then found that iTunes crashes as soon as it completes launch. Restarts did not help. Redownloading and reinstalling did not help. Can someone let me know what to do to fix this issue? Thank you in advvance!
