ITunes 10.6 very slow to start up

I installed iTunes 10.6 under Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) and it is VERY slow to launch.  I uninstalled it (fortunately I had backed up my iTunes library first) and reinstalled 10.5.  It is significantly faster.
Has anyone else experienced this issue, and, if so, what is the fix (other than uninstalling it)?

My version of Flash CS5 has recently become very slow to start up, taking well over a minute sometimes.

Anyone have any idea what may be causing this behaviour?

  • ITunes sync is very slow?

iTunes sync is very slow with several minutes of the spinning color dot.  Usually happens during the last step (7) of the sync.  I then discover that even though I marked to sync all photos from Aperture file, photos are not synced.  iTunes seems to be getting more and more of a problem.  Any thoughts?

  • Iweb 08 hangs or very slow to start at times.

    Hi all
Iweb 2.0.2 on mac osx 10.5.1 (leopard) at times very - very slow to start or quit - shown in activity monitor and "force quit" as "not responding". It does however eventually start and quit.
This problem appeared out of the blue and occurred at the same time as an internet problem.
After much grasping at straws I am now convinced that it is related to the internet problem (as strange as it may seem). During the hang, if I remove the ethernet cable (or start it without the cable) there is no problem. When the internet connection is ok - no problem.
I unchecked the "auto update" preference in iweb but no difference.
It almost seems that on startup and quit, iweb wants to communicate with god and cannot, so it gets all upset. (that's as techo as I can get here).
Has anyone found this problem or have an answer - mind you all ok if the network is ok. I have sent a "failure report to apple" after the force quit.
    Paul

After disabling Wmm in QOS, i was not able to connect the 2 PCs using the 5Ghz band . They could connect using the 2.4 Ghz SSID though. Re-enabling Wmm allowed me to use 5Ghz again.

  • Very slow mac start up

Hello, my macbook pro runs snow leopard 10.6.8 and is very slow at start up.
I have encountered this ever since I configured linux Fedora dual boot with refit because it was an old version of Fedora. Now I have removed linux, refit etc. , but it loads the whitescreen, then bluescreen and eventually shows the account to login, but the whole thing takes 30 seconds! When it logs in it needs another 10 secs to be able to open applications. I have taken some steps to improve this, like: 1) removing  login items, 2) removing useless stuff from caches and preferences of the Library, 3) deleting files and apps I don't use and empty the trash can, 4) verify disk with disk utility, 5) Update software, 6) Erase unused partition I made in the past with disk utility. At the Activity Monitor I don't see anything strange so far. Any advice to make it response faster, if you had this issue before?
Another issue is that I tried to change the user id some time ago, and now if I go to "Home-> Library -> Applications", there is no app showing up. I can go to the apps only from "Computer->Macintosh HD-> Applications" and from the dock off course. I don't know if that is important since it works anyway, or it plays a role for screwing up things.
I can probably update to Mavericks, but my colleagues had crashes with their software like Matlab and other applications after installing Mavericks, and I would like to avoid it if I can.
Please send some feedback, it is amazingly slow !

I don't know about your start-up problems, but...
...your Applications should be in your root Applications folder, not in "Home>Library>Applications"... while there is an Applications folder in Computer>Macintosh HD>User>Applications, there are usually few (if any) Applications actually located there.
So you're straight on that point.
As to your 'slow' startup problems, 30 seconds might not be so bad on a spinning hard drive - you'd be able to startup in half that time only with an SSD (again, depending on your startup items). I really don't see anything out of line there.

  • My Macbook is becoming very slow on start up and operation

My Macbook is becoming very slow on start up and operation. I have tried Mac Keeper but my small 2GB ram is always gone in the simplest of operations.
    Any help would be usefull

    Hello Chris,
A variety of things could be causing the slow startup.  The first place I would look is at the Login items on your MacBook to see if there are items in this list that are set to automatically start.  Having applications automatically start will increase startup time.  This article has the steps to do this:
Mac OS X 10.6: If items automatically open when you log in
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH6811
The steps from the article should work for Mac OS X 10.4-10.8; the only difference in Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.8 is that the Accounts icon is named Users & Groups:
To permanently prevent items from opening at login:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Accounts.
    Click Login Items.
Select any items you don’t want to open automatically, and then click the "-" button.
If you are still experiencing a slow startup after that, you might want to try the steps in the following article:
Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
    I hope this helps!
    Best,

  • ITunes Very Slow to Start Up in Win 8.1 Pro (64-bit)

iTunes has been extremely slow to open when I launch the program, since upgrading to Win 8 (64-bit) (I am now running the latest release of iTunes -- 11.1.4).  I went through a number of trial/error "fixes", and I "think" I found the cause --
In Network Connections, right click on "Ethernet" (I am using a desktop hard-wired to Ethernet and a Comcast cable modem, via a D-Link DIR868L (with latest F/W)), and click Properties.  You then see "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)".  If you click both boxes, iTunes is extremely slow to launch.  But if you only click on one of the two (i.e., only tick the IPv4 box), then iTunes launches normally.  Problem is, Windows alerts me that to run HomeGroup, I need to have both items checked, which, again, I have determed to be the culprit for the extremely slow start of iTunes.
My modem is IPv6 compliant, as is the router, but I am not sure Comcast is (I live in West Houston).
In any event, does anyone know why ticking both these boxes causes an issue with iTunes?  Is it possible to tick them both and launch iTunes normally, and, if so, how?
    Many thanks.

As above. Everything is perfect, but when i want to sync my music with my iphone 4 or with my ipad it takes forever. Any suggestions ?

I have very slow itunes since SP1, but have found a remarkably easy work round.  Start itunes, start what you want to do - like sync to ipod et al, then just click the windows 'show desktop icon' and itunes does the stuff properly!

  • ITunes Match matching very slow

I bought and started iTunes Match 12/24/12. It is only ‘matching’ 20 songs per day on average. I only have 3310 to match.
Why is this taking so long. I know one reason is iTunes Match keeps stopping the matching process. Last night it match zero songs. I have to keep restarting it.
At this rate, it will take 165 days. Not cool. I figure if I had the max of 25,000 songs to match it would take 3.4 Years!
I have a 2 year old Mac Pro, 12 GB memory, version 10.8.2.

I believe I have found the answer to why my ‘matching’ process is so slow. It is most likely because my Internet Upload speed is very slow.
I found this out from reading this forum. Under the basic >iTunes >iTunes Match heading, there is a Tab called ‘User Tips’. Excellent source of information. Had I read through that section before I purchased iTunes Match, I may have decided it was not a good choice for me...
Thanks for all the great information.

  • Macbook running very slow - just started, HELP

    Hello,
My MacbookPro just recently started running very slow, even doing simple tasks it runs slow. Was working perfect Sep. 8, 2014. Turned it off for the night, then turned it on the next morning and it took about 5 mins just to even turn on. After it finally turned on EVERYTHING just started running opening the internet, Word, Power Point, and even iTunes was running slow. The songs were literally stopping every 30 seconds. My Mac has worked perfect and all of the sudden BAM. I use it for school all the time so its kind of stressing me out. It keeps freezing up as Itype this message unfortunately.
I ran Etrresoft like most ask here are results:
NOTE** - I deleted Hamchi awhile back, i am unsure how to get rid of it because i don't know where to find it, i thought i had deleted everything.

Start up in safe mode and uninstall or update Hamachi.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.
