ITunes 10.7.0.21 choppy audio playback

After upgrading my Windows 7 PC to iTunes 10.7.0.21, the audio is incredibly choppy. I cannot do anything else on my computer without the sound going haywire. It only plays smoothly if iTunes is constantly on top. I can't even simply type a web address in to Chrome without the audio chopping up. This is incredibly frustrating as I had no problems with the previous iTunes version. I attempted to revert to the old version but it just gave me the error that it could no longer find my library. HELP!

I'd like to add to this.  Since I upgraded my iTunes, my videos (from my iphone) no longer plays properly.  It just plays a syllable out of the video, and then loops it over and over.  When I play that same video in Windows Media Player, it ofcourse does not recognize the format, but will play the audio flawlessly.
When I play my movies in iTunes, it does not have audio but the video is flawless.
This issue also persists whenever I play these videos using Quicktime.
Help!
I have Windows XP service pack 3, 1.86 GHz processor, 1.49G RAM.

  • New Lenovo T430 Choppy Audio Playback of MP3s only in any program

    Hello,
I am trying to troubleshoot a choppy audio playback problem with MP3 files on a Lenovo T430. The sound "skips" at regular internavls (about once a second). I have tried the following with no success:
    1. Windows sound troubleshooter.
    2. Playback through WMP 12.
    3. Playback through VLC.
I was suprised to find the playback poor through VLC. Sound is fine when playing a youtube video. Any ideas on what next steps I can take would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Can you post the configuration of your T430? I've seen issues in similar systems configured with RAM amounts of 4GB or less and using a HDD and ExpressCache running Windows 8.

  • Very choppy audio playback for iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows 8.1

I just upgraded my OS to Windows 8.1 (32 bit). I then installed the newest version of iTunes for Windows, 11.1.4.62.  Audio playback from my computer is now extremely choppy and I can't figure out how to fix it.  Anyone?
    Thanks so much!

Well, after some messing around I solved the problem.
Edit>Preferences>Playback>Play Audio Using: "Windows Audio Session" allows the files to playback normally.

But I have read now that apparently 16 GB is a bit too much for my computer to handle since certain components act as bottlenecks for whatever info/data and I don't end up utilising the full 16 GB..
The OSX will use as much RAM as it needs and is available for the given situation.  16 GB RAM will not be 'too much' in any circumstance.
Is spending $250 on a SSD worth it? Will it mean my RAM is more effective?
An SSD will allow for faster processing.  Whether the costis worth for its benefits it is for you to decide.  It will be able to swap data into the RAM faster but that does not make the RAM 'more effective'.  As I said, the OSX governs RAM usage as required.
Or will my CPU still be hindering everything and I should just accept I wasted some money?
The CPU does not 'hinder' anything.  It simply processes the data that is sent to it by the OSX within it specification limits.  I am not certain that I understand your thinking here.
Basically: is it worth trying to upgrade & is it possible to get more out of my 16 GB RAM
That decision is yours based on what you feel you need and your bank account.

  • Itunes choppy audio playback after update of software...no help in site!!!!

I have updated my itunes in the past month and am getting ready to abandon itunes all together (though I have loved it up until now!) All of my audio plays back so choppy you can not make out one word of any song. I purchase quite a bit of music and it is now useless! I have gone onto the web and spent hours searching for help only to discover there are lots of people out there with the same problem and apple seems to be doing nothing. I found another couple post on the forums with no reponse. I did find after some research on google that you should adjust the sample/bit rate on quicktime and it should help, this is not true. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE could someone from itunes/apple team give me a solution for my purchased songs?

We apparently have a major problem with "Paid for" merchandise that is NOT being supported by itunes/Apple
My hope here is that this site IS being moderated by some apple techs, but I am not seeing much. If you dig into the archives of this message board you will see a few of us out there that have been trying to get this resolved for a while and there are NO replies to their messages. Also I would like to state that apple makes it nearly impossible to find a good e-mail address that would go to anybody for help. We need to try and keep this topic on top of the message board to get it looked at by the right person. I don't understand the computer being under resourced though, I am running a dual processor and have 2 gig of ram.... my audio never plays correctly now regardless of itunes being opened alone of with any other applications. I NEED TO HAVE MY PAID FOR MUSIC BACK!
sorry-- had to get that off my chest.
    Thanks for your support

  • Windows 7 (64bit)  itunes choppy stuttering audio playback

    Hi All,
I'm new to these forums so apologise in advance if this topic has been covered already....
I recently upgraded my Dell to Windows 7 64 bit and also upgraded iTunes/ QuickTime to the 64 bit version which resulted in audio playback in iTunes stuttering every few seconds. I waited for the latest release thinking it must be a bug which apple are addressing. Just installed it (ver. 10.1.056) but the problems is still there. I’ve tweaked quick time, installed the newest possible audio drivers, for my soundcard nothing makes any difference. If i use windows media player to play my music its absolutely fine , no stuttering , no problems at all. So why can't apple get their act together?
Has anyone else experienced this problem or found a fix? if so please get in touch.
    Thanks for reading
    Dave

I have a similar problem. I recently got a new laptop with Windows 7 64-Bit. I've started to rebuild my iTunes library and it was all going well. However, I noticed a lot of my files are starting to loop the first second or so of the intro for around 6 seconds before the song plays normally. At the time, I didn't think of this as a problem, but the exact same looping occurs on the iPod itself on the same files, at the same time, everytime.
After deleting the broken files and getting new versions of the same songs, I decided to test them in Windows Media Player first and there was no intro looping. Assuming all was well, I added these files to iTunes, tidied up the song info, added album art and then played the tracks to see if the looping was still gone. Some of the tracks were fine, but others had developed the intro looping. Playing these same files in Windows Media Player again, after running them throgh iTunes, also now has the looping which it previously did not.
iTunes seems to be destroying my files. Is there any way to fix this?

  • I may have a solution for choppy video playback for iTunes Windows users

    My setup:
    - Intel NUC (i5)
    - 8gb memory
    - Intel 5000 Graphics with 1GB memory (share of system memeory)
    - iTunes 12
    - iTunes library on NAS via GigaLan
Had problems with very choppy and freezing HD video playback in iTunes and tried everything... Every other player works fine.
    1. downgrade audio playback
    2. played with Quicktime settings
However, I think I might have a workaround. You need to do the following,
    1. Install Quicktime 7
    2. Install iTunes
    3. Download ffdshow (Sep 2014 version) and install the codecs: pretty much leaving all do default
    4. Set audio quality in Sound and Quicktime options in control panel, and iTunes to 16bit 48k
    5. In advanced options of Quicktime in control panel, deselect "Direct 3D" & "Enable directdraw on seondary display", ONLY tick "enable directdraw accerleration"
Well, at least this works for me for now.
    HOWEVER!!!
@Apple! You need to address this issue once for all, I can't believe there is no solution. As a paying customer who buy quite a few of your movies in iTunes, I expect to have a harssell free experience. Consumers should NOT have to go through all these troubles trying to fix a product you have released and making billions out of.
Reason why I switched from Android to Apple for my phones and tablets is becasue of the seamless user experience, regretfully I have to admit, this advantage is quickly going away. The amount of glitches in your recent ios updates and itunes are simply unacceptable.

Downloading videos on 7.0.2 hasn't worked as well as everyone had hoped. I still can't get mine to work, but i do know a few people who haven't had trouble with the newer itunes.

  • Since installing iTunes 7.3, all audio playback on CD/DVD drive skips

    Hi,
I am running Windows XP home edition, and have recently downloaded iTunes 7.3.
Since installing iTunes, all audio playback via my CD/DVD skips/stutters. This occurs in all media playes, Windows Media, Sonic DVD etc. Audio files stored on the hard drive play back fine through these same programs. So far I have updated firmware and drivers for my CD/DVD drive and sound card.
I have looked on this site and Dells, and cant find any solutions as to what the problem may be.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers
    Aidan

One thing you could try is to check your computer manufactures site to see if there is a firmware update for your CD drive.

  • New MAC PRO: itunes audio playback-stuttering, glitching, skipping

I have a brand new mac pro 3.2ghz quad, with 8gb ram (bought a couple weeks ago). All seems fine with the exception of brief skips, glitches and stutters with audio playback in itunes. I tried updating to itunes 11 and this did not resolve the problem. My music files play fine on my girlfriends macbook pro (purchased over a year ago), and never had any problems on my old machine (imac 24inch aluminum). I went to apple with the problem and after multiple system recoveries they determined that the computer was faulty and sent me a replacement. I just received the replacement and tested out some downloaded music from the itunes store and the same problem happened. Am I just unlucky to get two computers with this issue? Is it the Mac Pros? Has anyone had this issue with mac based machines, specifically the mac pros? I saw another thread on the issue but seemed to be primarily windows users running itunes. The skipping happens as frequent as every 20-30 seconds to every few minutes, but it is definitely enough to notice
    Thanks.
    Baffled,
    Greg

    Hi Greg.
I seem to have discovered this problem this weekend. I listen to a lot of music from my apple devices and have done for years. What I have noticed this weekend is that both my Macbook 2008 and iMac late 2010 both suffer with a brief stutter every minute or so making the enjoyment of listening to music a little annoying. Both are running Mountain Lion 10.8.2. My iMac is running the 2.93 GHz intel i7 processor with 8GB ram. Playing music should be a doddle!
From my point of view both Macs are running independently to external speakers. The music I am running on those 2 devices has been ripped on both devices. e.g. Macbook has ripped and plays Apple Lossless format and my iMac has ripped and plays songs in 320kbps. My guess is its a bug with the new iTunes 11 or Mountain Lion although I have been using 11 since its release.
While I'm not able to supply a fix I think its safe to say its not your new Mac Pro. One other thing to note is that I have been running up until this weekend a 7 or 8 year old Mac Mini as a media device in my kitchen playing Apple Lossless format with no issues at all. This device however is running Snow Leopard with all updates applied. The Macbook is now playing the Lossless music with stutters that was ripped on the Mac Mini that was playing OK.
So is the problem Mountain Lion?
    Take care
    Paul

  • ATV (Gen3) Newest updates severely distort audio playback from iTunes. Please Help!!!

I just updated my iTunes and ATV (Gen3) to the newest versions and immediately noticed severe distortion in audio playback from iTunes library. No hardware changes have been made and yesterday the sound quality was just fine. I have one running an optical cable into a high end receiver and another running off a HDMI cable into the TV with powered Speakers for output. I checked both systems on all inputs and it's only the Apple TV with the distortion. Someone please help as that is the only thing I really use on the device. iTunes version 12.0.1.26

Weird, I just opened iTunes to add some songs and now its playing fine.
Though I still can't figure out how to change the columns and having them stick to what I want .

  • Choppy audio in iTunes 6

Only when listening to iTunes do I experience choppy audio; Whether its podcasting, songs chosen from my Library or radio streaming. I've uninstalled, then re-installed iTunes but to no avail.

    try this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610
I've tried everything suggested, but still have the problem. My iPod Shuffle plays all the music flawlessly. All the ripped files play just fine in Windows Media Player. But the audio is so choppy as to be unlistenable in iTunes. In addition, other audio (MSN Messenger, GoogleTalk, ...) has now been corrupted and cannot be used due to choppyness. All this started as soon as I installed iTunes. I've tried updating iTunes, the sound card driver, Divix, ....
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Audio Playback issues with quicktime 7 and iTunes - distorted sound

I was informed by my Soundcard manufacturer that Quicktime7 now requires a "real" WDM driver.
Many soundcards seems to have a "fake" WDM driver and this leads to chopped up sound that is completely distorted / garbled and impossible to listen to.
The fix is to downgrade to an older version of quicktime and iTunes.
I'm posting this because it was driving me crazy that there is no information on this in the support pages from Apple even if there are plenty of reported issues with audio playback. The system requirements from Apple does not mention the WDM driver either. I am not sure if this "true" WDM driver has to be "windows signed" and all unsigned drivers are "fake".
I'm sure the changed requirements has changed because of the need to address more audio channels but it would be great if the "safe mode" would accept "fake" WDM drivers.
I have also requested a driver revision from my soundcard manufacturer. We'll see...

  • Playing video in iTunes... Video NO Audio?

yes yet another newbie to iPoding. I have a new 30GIG Ipod video player and have downloaded the latest version of iTunes. i have successfully downloaded a music video into iTunes and transferred the music video over to my iPod. i can play the music video on my iPod and it looks and sounds great. when i try to play the music video in iTunes i can see the Video but I have no Audio. Any insight to this problem?

Thanx for the link Mi mico Kid that has been helpful but I have not totally solved my problem if solvable. I upgraded may Quicktime Player to version 7 PRO which made somewhat of a difference. I can now here audio on Movie files downloaded from the iTunes store but it sounds as if it's been reverbiated.Quicktime Pro will not let me export any of the files. All the files are listed as having Mpeg4 Protected audio which I think why I may be getting choppy audio when these file are played in I tunes or a aquicktime player. Originally I thought with the older version of Quicktime version 6 my problem was the lack of the H.264 codec, but this Mpeg4 protected audio is more likley the rascal. All purchased Movies from iTunes play great on my Pod thank goodness, but my computer playback needs work if it can be done. Anymore insight anyone?

  • Inconsistent audio playback...

since upgrading to Mtn. Lion, my iTunes library has not played back over my Expresses consistently. the playback is choppy, the one 802.11g Express in the kitchen completely drops connection and often i'll get 2-3 songs into an album then the system stops carrying audio entirely, though the track continues to "play" in the library.
i know everything works because when i stream music from the 10.6.8 server iTunes (where the drive is shared from) handles playback, everything is seamless.
anyone else having audio playback issues?
    i have:
    1 Airport Extreme
    3 Airport Expresses
1 aging Mac Mini running Snow Leopard server where the iTunes library is shared from a GRaid drive on the FW400 connection
    1 MacBook Pro running 10.8.2

    Hi Cratica,
If I'm understanding what you said, it sounds like you're
    monitoring the general
movie play time and comparing that to the time of your cue
    points in the sound. Is
that right? If so, that's not a good idea as there can be
    discrepancies between the
two. The sound may start a little later that the 'play' time.
    Rather, check the
time of the sound member itself using 'currentTime' property,
    e.g.:
    sound(2).currentTime
Also, look up cue point Lingo. I have some info on this at:
    http://www.fbe.unsw.edu.au/learning/director/Lingo/tempoLingo.asp
but notice that page needs to be updated.

  • IPhone 4 audio playback cuts out after latest update (5.1)

My phones audio playback ( podcast, audiobook or music) cuts out at random intervals during playback.
This happens when listening through apple headPhones or my audio lead aux input to my stereo.
This has only started since the last software update (5.1). It's really frustrating as you often hit the jump back or forward arrows when restarting, instead of the intended Play symbol ( they are close together). This is really frustrating when your listing to an hour+ podcast.
Is anyone else having this problem since the update?

Same problem here! My phone was functioning correctly after the update until today, when it randomly attempted it's own emergency call, then requested that I turn on location services. When I hit cancel, it repeatedly requested that I turn on the service. When I agreed to turn on location services, it defaulted to the screen with the iTunes logo and the USB cable. Since then, I have been unable to get it to function. The phone has been switching between a black screen and the apple screen and buzzing periodically. When I touched the apple, it pixellated and melted away. I did see a message that the iPhone needed to be activated once and very briefly. I managed to connect it to iTunes using an old troubleshooting guide, but when I asked iTunes to restore it to factory settings (politely, thank you), it gave me error 21 (unknown error) and said it was unable to restore.
    Hopefully someone has an answer...?
