ITunes (10.7.0.21) steals window focus every 60 seconds

Extremely annoying - I have been using itunes for about 3 years and have had every version update since I started, so I'm not sure why it has started happening now.
Even trying to type this question out is annoying as every 60 seconds my cursor flicks over to the itunes window and screws up my typing.
Any ideas?
I have seen similar problems in the forums going back years but I've never encountered it myself before.
Thanks
Alasala

If you can't figure out if a program is causing the issue, I have found a fix that works for me using  iTunes v. 11.0.2.6 and Windows 8
The fix however eliminates ANY program from stealing focus in windows.  Which I prefer anyway.  This means that you will have to pay attention to your desktop bar or start menu for flashing.  This will let you know the program is asking for your attention.
Open Regedit
Browse to HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\
Change “ForegroundLockTimeout” to “30d40”  (make sure this is in HEX not Decimal)
Restart your Computer.
For those of you worried about messing with your registry, it is a serious thing to do and it should NOT be taken lightly, Here’s the Page from Microsoft telling you what the key is so you know this is legit fix.  I always recommend backing up your registry and creating a save point BEFORE making any changes.

A website recommending that I install Codec Performer opens a new window about every 10 seconds. How can I stop this?

One potential cause of this is an unwanted extension. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
If you are adventurous about installing software from various websites, you may have loaded a bundle that contains some, well, crap. To review recent additions, go to your Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and click the "Installed on" column heading to bring the most recent items to the top. Remove anything unexpected or unwanted.

  • How do I stop SAPGUI Windows redrawing every 15 seconds

    Hi,
As per the title, the SAPGUI windows redraw every 15 seconds - it's particularly noticeable because the icon bar flashes and it's driving me nuts.
I had something similar a long time ago when I tried out the "Time settings" in the color settings, but that's switched off. I went through the tweak SAPGUI options & tried different themes, including the new signature design and they all do it.
Running on Vista Business x64, 8GB memory.
    SAPGUI 710 patch level 11
    Any input appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hi Martin,
I'm not running anything special - I don't even use the new Vista theme because I find the old Windows Classic more responsive.
It's only SAPGUI that redraws and it's only really noticeable in the icon bar. Happens exactly every 15 seconds. I will try fiddling with my environment and see if there's anything that may affect it.
    Thanks,
    Mike

It means you should take it to the Genius Bar. You will no doubt need to buy an out of warranty replacement.

  • Opening files keeps stealing windows focus.

    hey there,
i'm pretty new to Mac's OSX and i have a little question that i couldn't find a question anywhere.
i'm using my computer alot to hear music. i open a folder in the finder and i want to run through the songs and i don't want to use the preview functions because it's always on top and it's annoying..
when i open a file - for example an mp3 file , i'm using CMD + O , and altough the itunes app is minimized the finder window is losing his focus to itunes.
when i had PC and i opened an mp3 with winamp , it didn't happen. is there anway to fix it ?
    thank you
    udi

hi there, i've had this same issue too for a while...so basically...the problem only happens if you run windows live messenger with compatability mode and while you tell windows live messenger to show what music you're listening to.
SO the solution to this problem is to:
    1. turn off compatability mode
    OR
    2. turn off "show imformation about the song im listening to" to on windows live messenger
personally i'd rather just turn off "show imformation about the song im listening to" because windows live messanger tends to crash a lot when compatability mode is turned off.

  • Prevent BEx from stealing windows focus and disable nag screen

    Hi all,
Whenever I start BEx Analyzer or QueryDesigner (3.5) it takes a couple of minutes until the application is loaded. During that time a welcome screen turns up, which prevents me from doing anything else but staring at the photo of the SAP Building.
For some reason the log on pad pops up as well.
When reloading a query in Bex Analyzer, the application steals the windows focus several times.
Does anyone know how I can disable these "features"?
    Thanks
    Gerrit

We have the same problem when reloading queries in BeX Analyzer.
Did you find a solution to prevent the application to steal the windows focus several times.
    Thanks for your answer.

  • All windows minimize every few seconds

All of the windows open on my desktop minimize every few seconds.
If I open something in Windows 8 mode, it works fine. But on the desktop, the windows will minimize after about 10 seconds

    Hi Olga5,
    What is your current situation?
How about the keyboard shortcuts (Use Windows Key + E to open Windows Explorer more
    shortcuts) worked here?
When did this issue first happen?
In addition to what Robert suggested, please also take a check with clean boot:

  • When playing ituens music on my windows computer - every few seconds there is a ctrang horn beep in the background - like there is an error message worning.  whats up

when using ituens to playback music - there is a strange horn like beep sound in the background every 1 or less.  what to do to get rid of it

Yes...It is very annoying. I spent all day trying to get this worked out and after a lot of trial and error and a lot of restarts I got iTunes to work.
I deduced that I had a conflict of some sort and ruled it down to my temorary files that windows doesn't delete after it is finished with them. I cleaned out my temporary file by using this webpage http://personal-computer-tutor.com/deletingtempfiles.htm . After I did this my computer worked like it did when it was new!!
This seemed to work for me and it might for you if you are having problems.

  • Something is briefly stealing the window focus

    Dear all,
At least 50% of the time, I'm typing in an xterm on my computer.
There's something running that's stealing the window focus away
from my xterm where I'm typing for about 1/2 a second and then
returning it to my xterm. This is very annoying if it happens
while I'm typing. Unfortunately, I have no idea what's doing it
and can't give a simple recipe to reproduce the problem.
I have a vague suspicion it might be related to the Thunderbird
mail client, since sometimes my "you have new mail" alert sounds
right after it happens, but I can't prove it.
Any advice on how to fix this would be great.
    Thanks,
    Owen

Turn off the new mail alert and see if that solves the issue. FWIW, although not xterm, when I'm using the Terminal, Eudora's new mail alert doesn't steal focus. For xterm issues, post to the Unix forum under OS X Technologies.

  • Significant Computer Window Focus Problem With Verizon Access Manager 7.7.1.0 (2707e)

With the newly released Verizon Access Manager 7.7.1.0 (2707e) there is a significant computer focus problem with it.
What I mean by this is that if I am using ANY application on my computer with the Verizon Access Manager minimized to the Windows System Tray, something will go on with the Verizon Access Manager and it steals the window focus - I am unable to work in the other application unless I click on the application to use it again.
An example of this would be my typing to post a message in this forum.  Something occurs in the Verizon Access Manager and my typing is rendered useless unless I click with my mouse on the browser window to be able to use it again.
I'm highly suspecting whenever networks are coming and going in the Access Manager is when the problem occurs.
This problem did not exist in the previous version of the Access Manager I was using.
This is extremely annoying - please issue a fix for this ASAP!

I have found by not minimzing the Verizon Access Manager 7.7.1.0 (2707e) the focus problem does not occur - it appears to be a problem when the app is minimzed to the system tray.

  • ACR to Photoshop CS5 window focus problem.

Running Photoshop CS5 on Win7, both 64 bit. No problems for months, then recently this minor "annoyance" appeared.
I "host" ACR via Bridge, with the windows for all three apps maximized. I double-click a raw file in Bridge and ACR opens. I make my ACR adjustments, or not, and click "Open Image" to pass to Photoshop.
The images passes into Photoshop OK, but the Photoshop window does not receive "focus". Instead, the ACR window closes, leaving the underlying Bridge window displayed. But then no window has focus.
When I click once on the Photoshop tab, I get a screen flicker, like a window is being minimized, but the Bridge window remains displayed. I click again on the Photoshop tab and it comes up, full screen with focus.
If I take the ACR window out of "maximized" mode, the problem does not occur. Raw images pass from Bridge through ACR to Photoshop with proper window focus. Opening tif, psd, or jpeg images via Bridge is no problem. Only when raw images pass through a maximized ACR window does Photoshop fail to receive focus.
A few days ago I used the Windows 7 "snap" feature to place the Photoshop window and ACR window side-by-side. This is done by dragging a window off-screen until it turns blue and then releasing. I believe this action caused the problem I'm having now. I've unsnapped, resnapped, and unsnapped the Photoshop and ACR windows several times, hoping to clear the problem, but it remains.
Keeping the ACR window out of maximized mode is an easy work around, but the mystery remains and I hate mysteries.

I know how you feel, I've had a few problems like this with CS5. I can only think of two suggestions:
    1. Disable Windows 7's fancy desktop (Aero peek, or whatever it's called) to see if that helps.
    2. Make sure you're sorting by filename in Bridge. I have noticed that sorting by metadata causes Bridge to sometimes steal focus when it's not wanted. I love Bridge, but christ it needs a good sorting out.

  • OS 10.6.4 losing application window focus across a bunch of apps

    Hi
My iMac (10.6.4) has started doing something odd - it loses the application window focus in a range of different applications:
The application stays in focus, but the current window loses focus. (You can see in the 'Window' menu for that app when it's done it that no window has focus). It happens when you're typing OR when you're doing nothing.
It's affected at least Safari and iTunes, and i think, Entourage.
There are no unusual apps running that I'm aware of: at least from the 'Force Quit' menu.
    Any ideas?
(I'm using wired keyboard and mouse, and have switched USB ports for each, just to test if that was the prob)

Bob: as you may have seen on the original post I did install the updates.
That got the programs starting again, but trying to be productive is doing nothing but cause more crashes. I haven't seen something this bad and annoying in years.
I tried to simply copy a graphic in AI and place it as a Smart Object into a Photoshop layer. AI immediately crashed and PS froze. Had to do a force quit on PS.
Next I tried to do a save as with an AI file and it crashed the program. I'm totally crippled and very frustrated--as is my client needing the work done.
Simply put--why are Adobe CS programs crashing? The patch didn't solve the problem and I'm seeing a rash of discussions about crashes. What's the solution? What's the best way to get a real-world Adobe person to help me?
    Geez what a mess.

  • Browser window focus behaviour

Hey all, I am not sure if this is the most correct form for this, so feel free to let me know if there is a more appropiate one....
Within my organization, Sun Java is really causing a lot of frustration with how some of our web pages are working. The scenario is this...
    1) user views details regarding a specific issue on a web page
    2) user enters some data in textbox and then clicks button to email someone else
    3) pop-up is displayed for the user to enter data for email
    4) original page 'reloads' itself, which Sun Java then seems to cause it to steal focus again.
    5) user thinks email window is gone, even though it has only moved behind original window.
Sometimes it takes a couple of seconds for the original window to steal the focus back, it there is a lot of data to display, so the user could already be typing in things, and then have a different window take focus.
We need to maintain some sort of 'reload' on the original page, in case any data changed on the page before the user clicked on the 'email' button, or other buttons, etc.
Our users are VERY annoyed by this. If we turn off Sun Java and use the MS jvm, it works fine. For some web apps, we need Sun Java though.
Users are on a variety of Sun Java versions, 1.41 to 1.5. at the least.
Any ideas on how I can change this behaviour?
    Thanks,
    Craig

I think that that's just the nature of the food-chain. It works much the same way that the browser's document window loses its ability to trap an event if that very same event is being trapped by an applet contained in the browser's window. I suspect that while you cannot programmatically give focus to the terminal emulation panel, it is possible for the user to click and give focus to the panel. What you might want to do is to create a popup that doesn't require a user's response.

  • I cannot install iTunes 10.2 64 bit on Windows 7 Home Premium

I'm able to download the iTunes 10.2 64 bit program without any issue. However, when I try to intall the program Windows installer issues error message: "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package”.
I have tried to open 'itunes64bit.exe' as the Administrator but this still doesn't work!
I’ve scanned a Microsoft forum for iTunes download/installation problems. Most answers on the forum refer to a system32 error appearing when they attempt to install itunes64bit.exe on Vista or Windows 7.
One member had a solution whereby they downloaded a program from Orca to increase Windows Installer’s capability and another to help install iTunes.
The problem is that Windows Installer will not install these downloaded programs either!
I’ve followed tech advice to change the Windows Installer setting from ‘Service Status’ stopped to ‘Service Status’ started and applied/ok’d changes. However, as soon as I try to install a non-windows program it automatically defaults to the ‘stopped’ setting and issues the error message about not being able to verify the package being installed.
I followed the steps to unregister and reregister Windows Installer too, also to no avail.
You’re probably thinking this sounds like an administrator issue. However, I’m the only user and Windows 7 is registered to me – which should make me the only administrator.

    Hi Lee,
"You’re probably thinking this sounds like an administrator issue. However, I’m the only user and Windows 7 is registered to me – which should make me the only administrator."
You are correct but to a point.  I thought so too, however, like you, I am "second in command"...under myself.
I was in the same situation and tried others' successful workarounds.  Nope.  Actually, an ongoing frustration for a few months to no avail...until I came across this link, http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-windows_programs/ this-installation-package-could-not-be-opened/40c3cf33-b155-4dc7-b21e-ca5acce105 f3.  It shows you how to access the Administrator login, literally.  It worked for me.
This is from a Microsoft support page (SJ has probably been alerted, so I don't have much time, LOL).  I did not want to hit that "final" option and reinstall Win 7.  The first time was trying enough and I was about to give in.
" I’ve scanned a Microsoft forum for iTunes download/installation problems. Most answers on the forum refer to a system32 error appearing when they attempt to install itunes64bit.exe on Vista or Windows 7."
I was opposite on this one.  What led me to think it wasn't the above was seeing this user " ` " , also known as Accent grave.  The Users first file is labeled " ` " and has a little gold lock on it.  When I scanned Task Manager, under Processes Tab, the User Name column showed " ` " attached to certain processes.  I knew it was me, but did not realize it was the Alpha me
I cannot say if the system automatically did this or I or Alpha (I'm blaming Alpha).  If there is a way to change this I do not know, and if I should.  Either way, I will do some more research and pray another personality isn't isn't lurking about
    Hope this helps you.

  • ITunes no longer works on my Windows VISTA system.  Get error msg saying C runtime library incorrectly... Error 7, Windows error 1114..

iTunes no longer works on my Windows VISTA system.  Get error msg saying an application is attempting to access C runtime library incorrectly... Error 7, Windows error 1114.  Same msg, or one that says unable to install, when trying to update or reinstall iTunes.  iTunes worked well up until about a month ago when this error msg starting appearing.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
