ITunes 10.7 and 10.8.5 install?

I currently running 10.7.5 on my Mac Pro; I'd like to upgrade to 10.8.x, but I also want to keep my iTunes 10.7 as I prefer the interface over the newer version. When I attempt to upgrade to 10.8.x, it installs 10.8.5 along with iTunes 11.x. iTunes 10.7 is compatible with 10.8.x, at least up through 10.8.2 ... this is the configuration that I am trying to get to.
I am unable to find the option to do so, but is it possible to have a custom setting for the installer to not touch iTunes during the upgrade to 10.8.x?
The App store seems to no longer support new OSX 10.8.x downloads; is it possible to "downgrade" to an older installer image to install 10.8.0 ~ 10.8.2 instead of 10.8.5? I believe from there I could manually apply the various updates to get back to 10.8.5 without affecting the iTunes version ... any ideas?
Thanks!

Well, I tried ... it sounded like it should work, but Apple made a change in OSX 10.7 to disable the ability to move items out of the applications folder (except for trashing), so I don't know how you would do this quite so simply anymore.
The standard mouse drag only creates an alias of the application in the new location; this I knew about. The various "tips & tricks" on web mention that using the command key while moving the application will work ... it does not move it, rather it creates a copy of the application in the new location, leaving the original still in the application folder.
I suppose I could delete the original, but there is another issue; I compared the (2) iTunes applications, and the newly created copy shows as being a smaller file, only about 2/3 the size of the original still in the applications folder. So it appears to be leaving something behind that I suspect I will need to later preserve all my original files and settings within iTunes.
Is there another trick to actually move an application, fully & intact. out of the applications folder under OSX 10.7.x? Thanks again.

An older iTunes will not open the library once used by a newer version.
iTunes 10.6.3 will work with iOS6 as long as the hardware doesn't post-date the release of 10.7  Use iTunes 10.6.3 on both machines.

    windows installer has stopped working
a problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is avabilable.
    ... and that's one that I wasn't thinking of ...
Head into your Windows Update. Are there any new updates available for you? If so, and you install, does that clear up the error message?

  • Itunes not working and unable to re-install

Please help. I have owned my Nano for three days and have lost access to itunes. Story so far… Day 1 set up disk installed and itunes working great. Upgraded software online and problems started and unable to open itunes.
    Action taken:
1.Tried to re-install original software from disk but get error –itunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing.
    2. QuickTime also failed to initiate with error 2095 – message make sure QTime properly installed.
    3. Removed both itunes and Qtime through control panel and downloaded and used Windows installer clean up to confirm removal (files seemed to remain on computer?)
    4. Installed stand alone Qtime which seems ok
    5. Downloaded stand alone itunes but could not run error message: errors encountered whilst performing the operation.
    6. As last resort tried to re-install from disk but get same message: itunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing.
I am at a loss. I am not computer literate and would really appreciate help. Please note I also disabled virus software whist trying to install.

  • ITunes errors (1603 and 1714)/Unable to Install iTunes/Uninstall Old iTunes

Help! Technically challenged here. I was running iTunes version 5.0 but that has become a problem, and when I went to install the newest version, I get the following error messages:
    1. "Error 1714: The older version of iTunes cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group."
    2. "Error 1603: Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information."
I have tried to uninstall the old version, and it won't uninstall. And now, I have managed to mess up my Version 5.0, which now won't acknowledge my iPod as plugged in--so the old version doesn't even update the iPod.
This is a Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2. I'm running an iPod Mini with the iTunes.
Firstly, is there anyway to get my iPod to be recognized again on the old version of iTunes? I have to admit, I'm afraid to do drastic things on this computer while husband is deployed.
Any help you all can be would be greatly appreciated!

Itunes wont open and when re-installed received this msg: Service Apple mob device failed to start.  You have insufficent privileges to start system svc.  Help?

Download Itunes from Apple.com, not from within Itunes.
Redo the install, following the below procedure.   However, when you re-install Itunes,  right click and run the install as administrator.   For Win 7, you have to hold down the cntrl and shift keys when you right click and then "run as administrator" will be an option.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Vista, Win 7 & later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • ITunes just downloaded and installed the latest update, then restarted.  After restart, iTunes won't open ("program is corrupted or not installed; please install iTunes").  I have restated again and the same message appears.

Additional info:  I didn't allow the update, it just happened... it's supposed to ask permission, according to my settings.
I haven't synced my iPhone 4s in more than a week, so the library on iTunes/in my computer is not an exact match for my phone.
I am running Windows 7 Starter on an Asus netbook.

Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch your iTunes now?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component won't install normally.
If needs be, the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility (MS Installer "Fixit") may be able to help force through the installation.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

The instalation process runs smoothly without any error message and iTunes has been installed in my computer before. The problem started with the update no. 12. Any idea what's going on? Thank you

if itunes will not run, you probably have mangled windows badly
one feature of windows 8 is the refresh that saves libraries,
because you are using windows 7, you will need to backup all files to another storage device

  • I cleaned my computer lately and it won't let me open iTunes, saying I don't have the correct permissions, so I backed my iTunes files up and deleted it. Now when I try to install the free download it says 'The installer encountered an error...

The installer for iTunes free download says when installing "The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail." I have been to the help page and run Disk Utility (not sure if that's worked or not) and it still comes up with this. Please help me get iTunes back up and running. Thanks

Go to HD>Library>Receipts - remove the iTunesX.pkg receipt. Drag the iTunes app to the trash.
Repair permissions with Disk Utility - reboot - then try to run the installer.
