ITunes 10 and Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop

Just updated to iTunes10 and now neither Photoshop CS5 x64 nor Lightroom 3 x64 will run.
What's the fix?

What happens when you launch CS5?

  • Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Bridge does not recognize the raw files from my Canon Mark III 5D Camera.

Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Bridge does not recognize the raw files from my new Canon Mark III 5D Camera.  How can I get my files open to view and edit?  I am using LR3, Photoshop CS3 and Bridge CS3.  Do I need to upgrade these programs or is there another way to get these programs to recognize my files?
When I try opening the raw images in Lightroom, the thumbnails say "Preview unavailable for this file"  ... when I click "import" an error message pops up that says "The files are from a camera which is not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom."
When I try opening the raw images in Photoshop, an error message pops up saying "could not complete your request because photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
When I try opening the raw images in Bridge, it just shows an icon with the file name and CR2.
    Please help!!!

Unless I missed an announcement, today, LR6 isn't available, yet, right?  Only Adobe employees and beta testers would know what LR6 does differently at this point and they're all sworn to secrecy.
LR5 is available as a standalone version.
    PS-CS6 is available as a serial-number-licensed version.
PS-CC + LR5 are also available as a Photography Plan subscription for $10/month with a minimum OS versions of OSX 10.7 (and probably 10.8, soon) and Windows 7.
Bridge is part of PS, not a separate program.
LR5 standalone and LR+PS-CC plan are both available on this page:  http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/software.html
PS-CS6 can be found on this page:  Creative Suite 6 which can be found by searching www.adobe.com for Photoshop CS6 and clicking the Buy link in the on-the-fly search results.
As with any new Adobe software, it might be wise to run it in trial mode for a few days/weeks to see if it works well with your computer, before purchasing and finding out you might need a new computer, first.

I have the same question. It seems that Adobe is almost impossible to contact (I ended up here at the forums to ask the same question).
I will never buy another Adobe product again if I can get another program to replace it. If this is customer service then it is NON EXISTENT!
I notice that your question has not been answered and why should you have to get the information from a forum? I know of no other company that makes you do this for simple product information.
NOT HAPPY with this version of arrogant customer service (nor am I happy about renting Photoshop products into the future - it is just a money grab in my opinion). I will be voting with my feet and going elsewhere in future.

  • Question Mark in black diamond in Safari and Adobe Lightroom

I have a problem with the “question mark in black diamond” phenomenon noted elsewhere in these forums. My problem is different in certain aspects, though, and I’ve found nothing which suggests a way forward in other threads.
I get the “? in black diamond” appearing in two contexts:
    (1) in the UI of the Web Module in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom when using the LRG One with PapPal Template (from lightroomgalleries.com), and selecting a currency symbol other than $ (i.e. when using £, EUR, or the Yen symbol)
    (2) when viewing web pages generated by the Lightroom Web Module with the PayPal template in Safari
In both these contexts, the currency symbol is displayed as “? in black diamond” in place of the "£" symbol.
The strange thing about this is that when I view the output in other browsers (I’ve tried IE5 for Mac, Camino, Firefox, OmniWeb and Opera), the “£” currency symbol shows up ok. However, it can’t just be a Safari issue, as the “?” shows up in the Lightroom Web Module interface as well.
I’ve posted a screenshot of the Lightroom interface here: http://www.lochaberphoto.co.uk/currency.html , and an example of gallery output here: http://www.lochaberphoto.co.uk/test2/index.html (click on the left-hand thumbnail to bring up the image page and check out the dropdown menu beneath the image).
Before posting here, I’ve tried various forums relating to Lightroom (Adobe Lightroom U2U, lightroomgalleries.com, luminouslandscape.com) but to no avail.
So this is a last chance post: hopefully one of the OS X experts here may be able to suggest a reason for this (is it a font issue? or something to do with UTF-8, or Safari’s default encoding? – I’m not a coder, but I really want to find the answer so I’ll try just about anything…), and maybe a way to solve it. BTW, I get the same experience on my G4 iMac and my MacPro, so I guess it’s not an Intel-specific issue.
Thanks in anticipation for any answers, or follow-up questions
    Jim

    Hi Tom
Thanks for this. I've tried previously changing the Default encoding in Safari Prefs to Western (ISO Latin 1), but found that did not help.
Following your advice I tried changing encoding from the View menu, and find that the £-sign displays correctly in both ISO Latin 1 and MacRoman (though not in UTF-8). The odd thing about this is that with Default Encoding in the Prefs set to either of those, I still get the ? until I go into the View menu and change from Default to Latin 1 or MacRoman, whereupon the £-sign shows up! Can't imagine how that can be. Tried closing and re-opening Safari after setting Pref to Roman 1, but still need to use the View menu to get the £-sign. Restaring the Mac doesn't help either.
So, Tom, with your help I now have a viable workaround, but as this is going to remain an issue for other Mac/ Safari users visiting my site, I'd like to find a way of preventing it happening. Can you suggest how it can be that Safari needs to be told twice (in Prefs and in View menu) to use ISO Latin 1 or MacRoman before it does so?
Look forward to any further comments
    Jim
(P.S.: It seems to me this must be linked to the fact that the ? shows up in the Lightroom interface, and that the fault lies with the PayPal gallery Template I'm using. So I'm wondering if there's anything you - or anyone else - can suggest that I can put to the developer of the Template which will enable him to resolve the issue - he's a Windows user, but has made one suggestion that I adapt the encoding in a file called transformer.xslt from it's default of ISO_8859-15 to UTF-8. I've tried that and tried also ISO_8859-1, but the issue persists regardless.)

  • IMac and Adobe Lightroom

    Hi,
Not sure if this is the correct place to ask - but here goes.
I have just ordered an iMac 3.06GHz with 4GB Ram, at present i am using Adobe Lightroom on a PC and have many of my photos tagged and rated there. Is it possible to export these tags and ratings to the iMac when i install Lightroom for Mac??
    Cheers

You might try taking this up in Adobe's own Lightroom forum:

You'll be more likely to get an answer there.
    Good luck.

  • Managing pictures in Aperture and Adobe Lightroom

I have just installed Aperture on my iMac for the first time.  I also use Lightroom and Photoshop.
As such I want to keep the photo’s in the “Pictures” directory and not manage them within Apeture.
I have just tidied up some folders etc using finder and when I go into Lightroom I just press the “Synchronise” button and hey presto, the folders in Lightroom are aligned with the actual folders in the Pictures directory.
Can anyone tell me how I do the same in Aperture, as the changes I made to the folders/pictures are not reflected in Aperture’s directory?
(I have selected “Consolidate master file” in Aperture, not sure what it is doing, but it’s taking a long time!)
    Many thanks
    Confused 1st time Aperture user!

Note that's not what I said: Aperture does not HAVE to store the files inside its library (called "managed images").  They can be anywhere on disk you want ("referenced images").  It is entirely possible to put the files in a single location and access them from both Aperture and Lightroom.
Again, though, the key is discipline, as if you start moving them around or renaming them (via Finder, or via Aperture, or via Lightroom), you will have issues because both the applications expect that you use them to move or rename the files.  If you move/rename them in Aperture, you are "breaking" what Lightroom expects you to do, and vice versa.
I think in large part it's not the best idea to try and use both Aperture and Lightroom.  What they do has a huge degree of overlap, so it's really best to pick one as your primary tool.  If you value Aperture's Faces functionality and interface, and perhaps its integration with other Apple products like iWork/iLife, or ease of synching pictures to iPad or integration with PhotoStream, it may be the better tool.  If you'd like to edit photos and maintain smart objects, and you like Lightroom's editing tools or rendering better, it may be the better tool.  There will be compromises either way, but from a sanity and workflow perspective it's probably better.  Both tools can produce outstanding results.

  • Print Error Msg re: "rastertoes" using Epson 1400 and Adobe Lightroom

I am unsure if this is a _Mac OS_ issue, an Adobe issue or an Epson issue. I am using an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 with Lightroom 2.6. I successfully printed a snapshot but all subsequent efforts produced the following error message through the Epson printer app:
    "Error/Library/Printers/Epson/InjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/M acOS/rastertoescpll failed"
Have reloaded Snow Leopard drivers from Epson, gone through variations of printer set-ups, re-booted, etc. Still the same message.
I would sincerely appreciate someone's help.

Deleting the /Library/Printers/EPSON folder won't delete the Epson folder in /Caches. Did you do a search for this folder or manually try to find it? Are you looking in the hard drive's Library folder and not your home directory's?
As for "deleting the printer," I note that the Epson 1400 is still a pull down Print option in multiple apps. Is there a way to delete it so it doesn't show anywhere, or will the printer remaining attached (USB) to the computer cause it to be shown?
Go into System Preferences, Print & Fax Prefs, select the printer and hit the '-' sign at the bottom of the printer list.
This is a helpful introduction to printing:

How do I download an update, and how do I know it will discern that the Epson printer apps and drivers are missing?
Use Software Update under the Apple menu to download the update. The software will see that the printer is connected but that there's no software (since you deleted the /Library/Printers/EPSON folder), and it will ask you if you want to download the most recent update. Doing so will replace the contents of the Library/Printers/EPSON. After installing the update, restart, then re-add your printer using the Epson driver.
    Thanks,
You're welcome. I hope this helps. john

  • Issue with MacBook Pro trackpad and Adobe Lightroom 5

I'm using Lightroom 5 on a MacBook Pro (mid 2012).  Whenever I'm in the development tab I am unable to click on anything within the center third of the screen.  If I want to get to the 5th or 6th photo in the bottom pan, I have to use my mouse.  I am able to click on things only on the left and right sides of the screen for some reason.
This only happens in Lightroom.  Any ideas?

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm not using an external display.  If it matters my MacBook is a 13".
As an example of what I mean, look at the image below.  Everything highlighted in green I'm able to click.  After I'm in develop for more than a few minutes, I'm suddenly not able to right click or left click on anything.  The typical "mouseover" changes don't happen either, such as the subtly highlighting that happens when you mouse over an image in the bottom pain.  As if Lightroom isn't detecting the mouse there at all.

AnyConnect VPN fails on Mac with MobileMe Back to my Mac enabled
    Symptom:
VPN connectivity failure on Mac when MobileMe "Back to my Mac" is enabled.
    Conditions:
Problem  occurs for MobileMe users with "Back to my Mac" enabled. Both MobileMe  "Back to my Mac" and Cisco AnyConnect insist on using a virtual adapter  with the same name "utun0". Neither application is capable of creating a  secondary interface for example "utun1". Since MobileMe initiates when  the computer boots, it always grabs the utun0 interface first, causing  Cisco AnyConnect to fail.
    Workaround:
In  order to use AnyConnect for the purposes of the pilot, you must turn  off Back to my Mac before you connect to the VPN. Once VPN is  disconnected, you may re-enable Back to my Mac.

If you installed them by download then you will need to do the same when your machine is ready.  If you upgraded to version 12 then as a minimum you will need to have the serial number from version 10 in order to confirm your eligibility for the upgrade activation.  You do not need to have version 10 installed.
You can check your account online to see if there are links to download the installation files.  If you cannot find them in your account, then here are links to find the trial versions elsewhere - you can activate them to full use using your serial numbers...

Quote "No-one but Adobe understands why Adobe insists on referring to Lightroom as both Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom."
Up to a few months before Lightroom was released in the market and still in "Beta" mode the decision was made to change the name from "Adobe Lightroom" to "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom". This was a poor decision on Adobe's part and has led to confusion to what Lightroom is as a product.
Lightroom is in effect an alternative to "Bridge and the Adobe Camera Raw Plugin" that is available for the use in Photoshop CS and Photoshop Elements.
Lightroom is not Photoshop and the inclusion of the name only causes confusion.
