ITunes 10 and Mac OS X (10.4.11)

I've got Mac OS X 10.4.11 meaning the new iTunes 10 doesn't work. Can't buy music or even browse iTunes store. Is there a way of going back to the old version of iTunes?

iTunes 10 won't even install on Mac OS X 10.4 under normal circumstances, and won't run if somehow it does get installed. Did you actually manage to get iTunes 10 to install? If you did, you may be able to reinstall iTunes 9.2.1, the only other version that will work with the iTunes Store, by deleting the iTunes 10 application and running the iTunes 9.2.1 installer:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1056
Eventually you will want to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.5 (or 10.6 if you have an Intel-based iMac), since it's probable that eventually the iTunes Store will no longer support iTunes 9.x.
Regards.

  • How to get iTunes and Mac OS 10.5 to leave my file organization alone

I’ve organized my MP3 files for iTunes (using Mac OS 10.5.6) on a MacBook Pro. I did this manually since I have over 600 folders and thousands of song files. iTunes had created a mess. For example some albums were split up into different artists, composers or album names. Some files names began with a space or a dash, so they were our of alphabetical order. There were all kinds of nonsence with duplicated files etc. Once I got things all cleaned up and orderly I tried to make a backup of the master list by copying the files to a peripheral hard drive. The backup folders instantly reverted and even compounded the chaos that I had just fixed! If I delete all files from iTunes and reimport I end up with the same mess. How can I get iTunes and Mac OS 10.5 to leave my organization the way I want it and not revert to the old mess?

    I don't understand.
If you uncheck *Copy files to iTunes music folder...* and *Keep iTunes music folder organized*, iTunes will not mess with the files unless you are RIPping them from CD using iTunes.
How do I change the tags so they are organized the way I want.
I don't know how you want them organized.
iTunes uses the tags and puts them into Artist/Album folders based on the ID3 tags.
If you are not using iTunes to organize stuff and simply naming things as you want, tags are irrelevant to how you put the files into folders and what you name the files.
When I copy the master list (with my organization) from one peripheral drive to another the files show up with the old names and folders.
    Okay.

  • Itunes and Mac OS 10.4.11 - need Itunes 7.2, Itunes and Mac OS 10.4.11 - need Itunes 7.2

I purchased an old eMac, which has an OS X 10.4.11.  I tried to set up itunes and connected my iPod, but it says it cannot accept anything higher than a version 7.2.  I tried to find a 7.2 version, but every time it looked like I had it - it downloaded the most recent version.  How can I get a 7.2?  And, before you answer...please check the link you are getting ready to supply, because I have checked other answers and the links to those sites still work, but they do not have that version anymore.  Thank you so much!

The current version of Quicktime is 7.6.4, which will be the only one available from Apple Software Update.
FCP 6.0.6 will work with it and the spec on the QuickTime page says you need at least Mac OS X 10.4.11 to run it. The last few QT updates have all been stable for me.
So at least in theory, you should be good.
If you are in the middle of a project, don't upgrade until you finish it. Otherwise, make sure that you have a current backup before you do.

  • Having trouble connecting my ipod to iTunes and mac

Today my ipod decided to stop working altogether and not play anything. Literally, I was listening to a song and the next song never played. Couldn't figure out why, so I came on here and tried the 5 R's.
I want to restore my ipod (because obviously nothing else I did, worked), but I can't even connect it to my MacBook Pro, let alone, see it in itunes. I just want to see of restoring it might actually fix it before I do anything involving the apple store.
There's all sorts of threads about having troubles connecting ipods to PC's, but nothing I could find about connecting them to Macs.
I know for sure the USB wire is fine. I downloaded the new version of itunes and blah blah blah...it's definitely all the ipod, but I can't seem to come up with any other solution than to go to an apple store.
I only bought this within the last year and just recently started using it on a regular basis.
If anyone would like to shed some light on what might've happened, please let me know! I'd be so grateful! Thanks!

Try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
If that works, connect it to the Mac. See if it is now recognized by the Mac and iTunes. If it is, use Restore to erase the iPod and initialize its software.

  • IPhone not updating due to lack of iTunes and Mac OSX update

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 3GS running software version 4.1 and am needing to update it to the next version. When I click on the 'update' button when the phone is connected to my MacBook, a window pops up that says 'This version of iTunes (9.2.1) is the current version'. I realize that iTunes needs to be updated as well, but in order to do that I need a different version of Mac OSX. I have an older MacBook and am currently running Mac OSX 10.4.11
My question is: is the only way to update my iPhone at this point to purchase the OSX Leopard 10.5? I seem to be caught in a dilemna of not having the most up-to-date software on my computer, but I wish it didn't effect my iPhone performance.
Any information would be helpful. Thank you!

You can upgrade the MacBook directly to Snow Leopard for $29.00

  • Want to make iTunes and mac apple id's the same

Having issues with iTunes purchases and discovered that apple id on my mac is different from apple id in iTunes.  I know I can't merge apple id's and it won't let me change apple id on mac to the iTunes apple id.  Says that apple id is already in use.  Is there a way to get just one apple id?

  • Best File Format to use for iTunes and MAC

I have always used the AAC Encoder set to 256 kbps to import my CDs to iTunes. In preparation for moving to a music server system in the future I want to re-import my CDs at the highest quality (uncompressed) format that I can.
Is my understanding correct that AIFF was developed for use with MAC and basically WAV for Windows? Would it be best for me to use AIFF? Should the settings be left at automatic or set to 16 bit, 44 khz and stereo?
I understand there is a way to take these uncompressed files and compress them later for transfer to my iPod. How is that done? If there are tutorials or other directions on this site or others please feel free to direct me to those. At this point I have not been able to find an answer to my specific questions.
Any other recommendations or suggestions is appreciated.
    Thank You
    Mike

Macs and iTunes will recognize and play both AIFF and WAV formats. If you want to play the files on Windows machines as well, I'd say use WAV encoding. In order to ensure the quality you want, change the setting from 'Automatic' to 16 Bit, 44.1khz stereo (this is industry standard).
When you want to compress the high quality WAVs, change the import settings to the desired format (mp3/aac etc). Then select the tracks you wish to compress and in the 'Advanced' menu, chose 'Convert selection to mp3/aac'. iTunes will then create duplicate tracks encoded to the desired format.
    Hope this answers your question.

  • Upgrading iTunes and Mac OS X compatability

I have just bought new iPod Touch that requires Mac OS X 10.5 or higher and iTunes 10. I currently have Mac OS X 10.4.11 and iTunes 9. I try to upgrade with software updates but no options pop up to do this. How do I upgrade?

You need to purchase Mac OS X 10.5 or if your computer can handle it, Mac OS X 10.6
That is the only way for you to upgrade your Mac OS X...
You would need to call the Apple Store to buy 10.5 as it is no longer listed in the Apple Store.
Here is 10.6 if your computer(s) can run this version.

  • Windows iTunes and Mac Hard Drive format

I use my iPod in a PC for iTunes. Can I use it as a hard drive for a mac as well? Please advice.
    Thanks!!!
    ~Ferd

As a matter of fact, you can.
When you use your iPod with Windows, it formats the hard drive as FAT32, which the Mac can also read. But, in order to use it with the Mac, you'll need to put it into disk mode. You can do this by resetting the iPod (slide the hold switch on, then off, then hold Menu and Select; the iPod will reset, but continue to hold whiel you see the Apple logo. In a few seconds, you'll see "Do Not Disconnect". Your iPod is now in Disk Mode, and your Mac will recognize it as such.)
Also, when you're done, don't forget to eject the iPod. If you don't you could lose data, and no one likes that.

  • PLEASE HELP DISAPPEARING DATA ON ITUNES AND MAC

The iphone is completely wiped and the apple account no longer exists, can someone help me and tell me if there is a way i can get the data back? i have used the iphone back up extractor and it isn't there - it must be somewhere as it took forever to backup.
Thanks and i hope this can be fixed as she is so upset !!! and the worst of

    You need to not just
    i find
your PC music, but also get it back into the iTunes Library. As long as all the songs are in your iTunes, then when you sync the iPod, it will not erase any songs on it.
Also see: How to keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod
    Another Easier Alternative:
While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys in Windows (CMD + Option keys on a Mac). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes. The iPod will then appear in the iTunes source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto-sync and then you can release the keys. This action may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
You can then ‘right-click‘ on the iPod icon in iTunes’ source column and select iPod Options, then check the box that says “Manually manage songs and playlists”. You can now manage your library without losing any songs on the iPod.

  • Itunes and Mac Pro Problem -- Help Please

Having a really strange problem and could use some help.
I've got a Mac Pro with my wife's Ipod attached. Updating songs on the Ipod has become very, very slow. Literally, it's taking hours to move over a couple of albums.
Just out of curiousity, I hooked it up to a Macbook Pro in the house and everything was just fine. Tried reinstalling itunes on the Mac Pro and it didn't do it the trick.
All machines are intel based. Other peripherals are working fine.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Help! Itunes and mac!

I have recently used Homeshare to move all my music from my pc to my mac, so I can stop using the pc to up date my iphone.
I hooked my iphone up to my mac and it began to sync, I expected it to replace all the music on my phone with the music in my itunes library. Which I wanted to happen! But all it says is "syncing..." and it backs up my phone. Now I have all the app I orginally had put all 450 of my songs are now gone.
How can I get music on my iphone.... from a my mac.
    Thanks!

I figured it all out!! Thanks to my boyfriend!!

  • IPod nano does not appear in iTunes AND Mac computer - AND does NOT load

My nano worked out just fine for a month until one day - when I wanted to charge the battery - it just did not appear in iTunes, nor on my desktop. I tried the 5 Rs, but can't restore, of course, because my mac does not recognize the nano. As soon as I plug in the nano to my mac, it is stuck on "Do not disconnect" and does not charge. I'm tired of resetting and plugging the USB cable in and out. Please, help!
What else can I do? Does it make sense to send my nano back and have it inspected? Does Apple charge for technical support?
I'm thankful for any kind of reply.
    iBookG4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

me again.. hey did you guys work out how to get around it at all? I'd so love some adivce. I think i'm going crazy ay. I've also tried all the things mentioned in the above link given by another member..with no luck. May be its possible that there's not enough space on my computers hard drive to recognise the ipod???? Plus when i did originally download the software from out of the box, it didn't allow me to select where i wanted to put this software and just said it was putting it on my hard-drive anyway. I would of liked to have positioned it somewhere, so i knew where to find it and too make sure it was all there n ok.
I look forward to hearing form ANYONE with some tips :o)
    Thanks again

  • When will the iphone's ical be able to sync with iTunes and Mac's Ical

since the release of the iOS5 I've been unable to have a calendar on my iPhone that is fundamental to my life.
the ical still keeps recording 5, 10, 20, 50 times the same recording whenever I try to sync the iphone with the mac's ical.
I would like to know when will this mishap be fixed so that I can be able to work properly with the iphone schedulling appointments on the iphone and later syncing them with my mac's ical.
    thank you

I can't seem to find any icloud setting on my MBP. The calenders sync just fine between my phone, ipad and on the icloud account, but the MBP iCal has nothing on it.
When I go to itunes, it simply says that things are being automatically synced on icloud and there is no option for me to change anything.
I would just like to bring my MBP iCal up to speed?????

  • When i connect my apple tv to the iTunes and mace update it write error 40 and not complete

i want know hwo i can solve this problem?

Is this a new Apple iD? If it is, and you have already set it up, then you have two options:
    1.     Temporarily put a Credit Card or Gift Card on the account to download the free app. If you put a credit card, then once you have downloaded the app, you should be able to go into your Account preferences and change the payment option to = None.
    2.     You can download the fee App, and then set up a new Apple ID.
    Cheers,
