ITunes 10 for OSX 10.5 only why?

I was so bummed to see yet another major component/function of OS X not available for 10.4.11. Is this a "tech-under-the-hood" thing, or a money thing?
I just don't need 10.5/6 and am not going to spend $130 for something I don't need - generally speaking. I'm really pi^%ed at Apple for making new things only available on 10.5 and above. ( Unless there is some major code in 10.5, not in 10.4.11 )
Then I would understand.
Thanks for your help in understanding this.

I realize I'm very behind with the platform legacy.
It's not about a "vile conspiracy" or even being interested in another platform, lol.
I just don't need most of the functionality of 10.5/6, and hence don't want to pay for something I, generally, don't need. This is a reasonable position to me, anyone else's sympathy non-withstanding , lol.
If it's a code thing as the OS X platform progresses - so be it. If it's just a money thing, I stand by my gripe with Apple and the computer industry in general. Why should I pay for a bunch of bell and whistles I don't need in 10.5/6 @ $130.
iTunes is a ubiquitous enough of a 'sub platform" in OS X that I don't feel I should be left out because I don't want to buy into 10.5/6.
If it's a code thing in that 10.4 can't run the iTunes 10 iteration - key then I eat crow and understand.
Snow Leopard, 10.6, is only $29. And I've seen places where you can get it for $10 less. But I guess that's not the point. I think that companies have a right to make money, and if you don't feel that way, then you're making the right choices for yourself. But you can't complain if they leave you behind. Seriously, you made a distinct choice, but you can't point a finger at anyone else.
If upgrades were just "bells and whistles" then you'd be right. But it really is more than that. Speed and stability are #1 for most of us. By your logic, every upgrade is nothing. I'm not sure how long you've been using OSX, but you should have seen System 9.0 vs OSX. And I have got to say, I'm glad I'm not using Tiger, because I remember all of its flaws.
But the most important thing is that new and better software is always coming. I don't know if iTunes 10 is the greatest version ever, but every upgrade to iTunes has made it better, faster, easier, name your adverb or adjective. We cannot expect that Apple provide software for legacy systems that could be 10 years old. Providing that kind of code may actually be a liability for those of us with modern OS X systems. And then there's the cost to Apple (as rich as they may be) in time and money. I'd rather have iTunes 10 and iOS 4.1 (and .2) sooner than later, and those devices probably require the advancements in iTunes 10.
I appreciate what you're saying. But you made the choice.

  • What version of iTunes for OSX.3.9?

    Hello all,
It's been a while since I posted here, but so nice to see familiar names like Strider, Ron, Duane, MrTotes etc (incidentally Strider, your web pages on how the get the best out of OS9 were excellent for me back in 2001/2).
My problem now is, I'm running OSX.3.9 and I've had an iTunes gift card for the last two years which is about to expire. I was hoping I'd have upgraded my computer by now but money is (always) an issue.
I'm using iTunes 4 with a 2nd gen iPod (first one with the scrolly wheel I think). I wanted to use the card and download a bunch of songs, but I think I need a newer version that can support the purchasing of tracks. This one seems to have had the functionality fall by the wayside.
If it's not possible to buy songs anymore in OSX.3.9 can I use my gift card with a friend's Windows machine, download the songs & transfer them via memory stick to my old Mac?
    1) The gift card has not been registered yet.
    2) I would probably need to make sure the tracks are DRM free before purchasing.
On a side note, I picked up two minty fresh G3 iMacs last year for £20. One was a Sage G3 450, the other a Snow G3 600. I was so happy

What version of iTunes for OSX.3.9?
can I use my gift card with a friend's Windows machine, download the songs & transfer them via memory stick to my old Mac?
Yes. Right-click the songs in iTunes and move them over as you would any file.

  • How can i change sort options for a playlist in ios8? I would like to sort by album, or album artist like I can in iTunes for OSX.

So here's an example of why I would like to figure this out. I have a playlist on my iPhone that contains only new music. I would like to be able to sort this playlist by artist, so that when i click on the playlist, I can quickly find the album I have added to the playlist and play it. Currently, I can only see a long list of tracks. How do you sort playlists?
    Thanks!

I just found the solution to this myself.
In a very un-Apple way, this is an undocumented feature only accessible by right- (or control-) clicking.
    1. Change one track to your desired sort settings (for instance, set the Sort Artist to Yankovic, Weird Al.
    2. Right-click on that track. In the contextual menu that appears, there is a new submenu called "Apply Sort Field." If you choose "Same Artist," it will apply your new sorting information to all your other tracks by "Weird Al" Yankovic (or, if you are not a huge nerd, any other artist you substitute).

  • Installing Itunes for osx 10.1.5

    hello,
I've got osX 10.1.5. I've lost my Itunes and I try to install the version iTunes 4.0.1 from this link :
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120134
But it doesn't work. I've got I-tunes 2.0.4 on os9 but I want a better version to download on i-tunes music store.
If someone can help me to found a version between 2.0.4 and 4.0.1 it will be nice.
    Thanks.
    olivier

I would suggest you try iTunes 4.7.1, which is the most current version available for Mac OS X 10.1.5. If that still won't install, post back with details ("doesn't work" isn't much to gon on) and we'll see if we can help you sort it out.
    Hope this helps.

  • What is "Other" data in iTunes for my iPhone?  And why is it over a GB?

In iTunes, my iPhone reports I have 1.6GB of "Other" data. It appeared immediately after I deleted and unsubscribed from a podcast (via iTunes) which had 24 large videos, and then sync'd with my iPhone (which was running out of space).
The podcasts appeared to be removed from my iPhone, however I still had no space and I saw that now I had this 1.6GB of other stuff.
I had a look around for answers on this and the default answer given is "restore your iPhone". So I did a backup and then did a restore to that backup. I don't have an earlier backup (except one that's from last year) and I really don't want to lose my app data and settings.
The restore didn't remove the 1.6GB of data.
So the question is, am I right in assuming the 1.6GB of other data is the left over podcasts that are now corrupt somehow? Or is it something else? i.e. What constitutes "other" data?
Second, any other ideas how to get rid of that other data?
    Thank
    Boz

Other that large is corrupt data. Normally, a restore from backup fixes things.
So, I discovered something new about iTunes today. The "Restore from backup" context menu option that appears when you click your iOS device in the Devices tree on the left of iTunes, is different from the "Restore" button that you get on the Summary tab for your device.
"Restore from backup" just does an restore from backup. Whereas the Restore button does a restore and then restore from backup. Make sense? Hmm.
This distinctly different functionality is not clear to the user, indeed the advice I was given above was to "Restore from backup", which in this instance is not what is needed to clear out the "Other" data.
In summary, to fix my problem I:
    - performed a complete Backup (from iOS Device context menu)
    - performed a Restore (clicked Restore button on Summary tab)
    - after device is reset with latest iOS software, chose latest backup
My other data shrank to 0.2Gb, and as an added bonus another 1.4 GB of other space was freed up from Apps and Video, even though I can't find anything missing, so I suspect there was other non-"Other" data that was cleared out by this procedure.

  • When apply my ID and my PW to family condivision of itune for ipod, happen error 5506, why?

question: when apply my apple ID and my PW on itunes to get family condivision to another pc, it appear error 5506: why?

This makes sense to me. I think the issue is your misunderstanding. If you purchased an item, your Apple ID becomes tied to that permanently. So when you try to update that app, you need the password to the ID that 'OWNS' that application.
Also, I suspect you have a different ID signed into the device, which is why you can't buy with your own. That article listed shows how to change the signed in account.

  • Installing Itunes for a Limited Account Only?

    Bought my girlfriend an Ipod.
Had to install Itunes on my PC for her so created her an limited account.
Unfortunately Itunes installs itself across all accounts and not just hers.
Is there anyway it can be installed just on her account.
    This is becuase:
    1. I don't have an Ipod so don't want the Itunes installed on my account!
    2. My account is mainly for playing MMORGs and therefore I have to manually keep stoping the services Itune installs!

  • ITunes update caused my iPhone to FAIL. I was only wishing to connect to my pc iTunes, then I was told I could upgrade to the latest iTunes for the mobile. Bad idea! I'm abroad, and now I'm stuck in grey screen-- how can I get my iPhone back?

Please help me, I am verging on desperation! I am flying tomorrow, so I was only trying to add some music to my iPhone.
During the process, connected to the latest version of iTunes for Windows, I was asked a seemingly innocent question-- would you like to
update your iTunes for iPhone?  If only I could go back and ignore this question,
But no, I am now stuck in purgatory-- no use of iPhone, at al! -- the upgrade FAILED. Perhaps because I'm in Asia? At any rate,
I was told that I needed to reformat my phone to factory settings (losing all data!) That was the info on the pc. My phone would ONLY display
a phone cord pointing to iTunes (beckoning to connect), but I was connected to the pc already. So I had to click to reformat.
There was no other option, I browsed tha forums, was semi-assured that iCloud would help back me up. I heard about iTools,
but that also proved a dead end.  My phone ended up in this grey screen, where choices are limited. They originally asked if I wanted to connect
with iTunes, but I chose WIFI. I tried many times to "activate" the phone this way, and it always fails. ( I wanted to try activating through
iTunes, but I can't go back to that original option. At times "Connect with iTunes" is only very briefly shown, but disappers before I can select
    it.)
Every time I'm left with the message "Your iPhone (failed) bec. the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting phone to iTunes"
    But HOW?

    Why did you disconnect it?
You will have to restore it.
Your data is gone if you failed to make sure it was on your computer before updating, as you always should you.

  • [certain number] item(s) could not be synced.  See itunes for more information????

    Okay so recently I got a gift card with a £10 credit.  Now i have tried to buy an app for my iphone.  My iphone is on a different account to my itunes on my mac and so I authorized the account on my phone onto itunes.  Then I plugged in my phone and tried to drag the app icon there.  When I did, a smaller icon of that came up on my phone but didn't download.  So I unplugged the phone and tried to download again, it then said it was syncing.  And comes up with the message;
1 item could not be synced.  See itunes for more.
I tried again and then it said
71 items could not be synced.  See itunes for more.
    I only want ONE item!!!!!!!!!
Any if anyone can help please reply asap.
    Thanks

  • Install itunes to a specific user only

I want to install itunes for a specific user only. Currently both users are administrators however i want the itunes/quicktime installation to reflect on 1 user only i.e. the one i intall it from. How can i do this? Is there a command line parameter that would allow me to install it for 'current user' only? Please advise.

Just change the installation path to somewhere in the other users account. The default is C:\Program Files\iTunes. You could change it to something like
C:\Users\accountname\iTunes. or something like that for vista. and
C:\Documents and Settings\accountname\iTunes. or something like that for XP.
accountname is the name of the account that you are trying to install itunes for.

  • HT1918 Why am I not able to access my balance that is posted to my itunes for purchases? I'm directed only to the credit card information page or I'm asked for the pin # from the itunes card; which was thrown away when I was credited with the balance?

Why was I able to redeem my ITunes card and have a balance that is shown next to my email address as an available balance to purchase ITunes for my IPod, but when I try to purchase any songs/albums, I am directed to the credit card/billing information page whichis telling me I need to provide that information in order to buy siad albums or songs when I have a credit already from the card?  I also get directed to a page where I'm required to provide a code from the card I had already used and obtained a balance from, therefore, the card was disposed of as I had no longer any use for it; so I thought....
How am I supposed to be able to use the credited balance that's already posted to my ITunes account?
Am I missing a step or something? Because I am honestly lost as to what to do or how to proceed from here! Please, if you know what I need to do, I am desperate and very frustrated looking for answers.

What I did, basically, was what the Apple Help suggested--choose iTunes General Preferences, etc.etc.  And yes, I did upgrade the old laptop to the newest iTunes version.
Am I just wasting my time here? Is there some reason why an older Mac Pro will not do what the newer one will, with regard to iTunes?

this one is actually a really rare symptom of a flaky connection to the ipod on a Windows PC. there's more going on in terms of hardware on nanos and 5th gens than in the earlier models ... so if the connection is flaky to precisely the right/wrong degree, itunes will see the ipod, but misidentify it as an earlier version of ipod.
tracking down the cause of the flakiness can be tricky ... as you already know ...
just checking. have you tried connecting with a different (known-good) USB cable? does that seem to have any impact on the rate of occurence of the problem?
