ITunes 10 is killing me.

Before i had ever updated to itunes 10 everything was fine and dandy. Now that i have installed iTunes 10 iTunes never even wants to open up for me. If it does open up it freezes 3 seconds after it had been up. I've tried everything i could in the troubleshooting help thing. The thing is though when i create a new library it works fine until I load everything up then it keeps running fine until i close it and try to reopen it. Somebody please help me, these have been hard days not being able to add new music to myPod.

I would have to agree with this. I have had nothing but problems, freezes and crashes with ITunes 10 since I switched to an IPhone. I have not had a sync complete successfully on my IPhone yet.
I have upgraded the bloody software a half dozen times hoping that one of these versions will finally fix the problem.
I don't understand why if you are not going to give us more information about how this piece of crap software works why you cannot make it work properly.
You force us to use this software but so many of us spend so much wasted time attemping to make it work.
You should be ashamed of yourselves for putting out such a lowsy software package.
Either get it right or give us the ability to access and import and export files to the Iphone ourselves.
everytime you provide a new version of Itunes you state that it should stop it from freezing when syncing with Ipone but it has done this for dozens of sub versions.
I have submited error messages, log files, etc. but you just wont tell how this stuff works and let us actually do some real troubleshooting.

  • Itunes 10 kills Outlook

You got it, I updated to 10 and it killed my outlook on XP. Took me about a week but I removed the Mobile Me and now Outlook works. Sadly my iphone will not.
Any ideas, I did everything in windows before getting it correct. But go figure some add on in Itunes 10 killed it. What to do get emails or use my iphone?

I had the same problem after updating to iTunes 10 OS (iPhone Version 4.1) on both my office desktop and mobile laptop computers. I use Outlook 2000 on both and they are Windows PCs.
Each time I tried to launch the Outlook programs (even from safe mode), they'd try to open, immediately hang and then shut down. Took me 3 days to finally resolve without having to completely erase my systems, reinstall everything and avoid downloading iTunes 10 updates. My iPhone still works and so does everything else.
Apparently, iTunes 10 does not support Outlook 2000 or older. Only 2003 and newer.
Here's what I found that worked (Note, this is a work around only. Hopefully iTunes will address the issue in future updates. In which case, you may need to rename to the original name. So be sure you know what you do)
Go to your computer and click on:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
Locate the file OutlookChangeNotifierAddIn.dll -- Rename it.
In my case, I didn't rename it. I just added an "x" to the end before the .dll)
Suddenly, back in business and working as usual. Trying to make up for the lost time. Know that I couldn't locate ANYTHING that fixed this problem so wanted to be sure to post it for others in the same situation.
Hope it works for you. I'm so relieved and grateful to the individual who figured this out! Cheers!

  • Itunes 7 killed my 20 GB ipod?

When I first installed itunes 7 it was difficult to get my computer to recognize my ipod. Yesterday I downloaded a mixed cd to my ipod - it would freeze after a 10 or 20 mins. I would reset it each time - after about my 4th reset - I got a sad ipod logo. I now have a 13 month old paper weight. Did itunes 7 kill my ipod? I never had a problem with my ipod until I downloaded itunes 7. I guess when I take it to the apple store they are going to make me pay some crazy amount to fix it? How can I prove it was their program that did the damage?
20 GB colour picture   Windows XP

I had same problem with mine. Where itunes would freeze, I never got to use my ipod cause I started right with the 7.0. Well, troubleshooted until I was ready to throw them and nothing worked. I got different messages when I plugged the ipod in. Sometimes I would get found new hardware, sometimes need to reboot for software to work properly, or found unknown device. It also would not show up on my computer..or rarely showed up as an f drive. I also got a message that said can not find drivers for this device.
Make sure you have a 2.0 usb port..this is needed not recommended as it states. I don't know if it's the software or what. If you have a 2.0, how old is it? I had a 2.0 and everything but ipod worked, when I bought a new 2.0 the ipod worked fine. I also have an 80 gig that I had same problem on and this solved it. Usb only costed me 20 bucks, but it solved the problem immediately.

  • ITunes is killing my Windows 7 64-bit

I have setup a new PC, installing Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on an SSD drive with data etc on a separate hard drive.
It was all going swimmingly until I loaded ITunes 64-bit and left it running iTunes Match overnight, came back in the morning to it hung at the "Starting Windows" screen. So I restarted and it bombed out on configuring windows updates, I had to do a System Restore - I blamed Windows Updates and turned them off.
The computer was fine all day, and that evening I loaded iTunes and left it doing it's thing overnight, came back in the morning to it stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen again  - remember there was no automatic updates loading this time. This time it did reboot OK and was fine all day.
It started up ok this morning and was perfectly fine - I ran iTunes again (this time whilst I was using the computer and watching what it was up to) and it was doing an iTunes Match check and had got stuck on song 19364 out of 20k+, and it was stuck there some while, so thought I would end the task. At this point I noted that the running process was "iTunes....*32" - I definately thought I had got the 64-bit version.
Anyway it really wouldn't end the process and it had killed Outlook and Excel too, so I restarted the machine, and was then presented with a BSOD and numerous other problems. I ended up having to go back to a previous System Image as a System Restore wouldn't even fix it.
I did a bit of research and found that in days gone by (Vista x64 to be precise) there was an issue where you thought you were downloading iTunes 64-bit but it was actually sending you the 32-bit version, and when I saw the *32 beside the process in Task Manager I thought has the same thing happened here ?
Anyway, having uninstalled iTunes, I have been happily using all aspects of the PC all day without incident.
Naturally I am now terrified of reinstalling iTunes again, but this is the only PC I have and we have two iPods, two iPhones and an iPad and now no iTunes to connect them too.
Can anyone shed any light on this please ?

At this point I noted that the running process was "iTunes....*32" - I definately thought I had got the 64-bit version.
That's normal. The 64-bit itunes (and related software) is a mix of 32-bit and 64-bit componentry. itunes.exe is 64-bit.

  • ITunes 9 killed my Apple TV

Which pretty much says it all. Unless it is a complete coincidence, upgrading to 9 effectively killed my Apple TV sync ability. Windows XP, never had an issue before with the wireless network (been running ATV for nearly four years now) and I don't have any answers other than to downgrade (the error message tells me to make sure port 3689 is open but it always has been and still is).
Any other ideas before I chuck it all and go to something that just is a whole lot easier (I got a Western Digital HD Live for my big screen TV and it beats ATV all to heck and back for half the price so now I'm thinking that rather than deal with this hassle I'll just buy another one for the bedroom and get out of the Apple TV business once and for all -- I've never had sync issues, but sync is such a hassle and is so slow when the WDTV streams lightning fast).

All I'm saying is that every other device I've ever used allows me to connect from that device without any issues whatsoever. Apple TV is the biggest PITA I've ever used -- you need to run iTunes, you need to race back and forth between the two to enter codes, and you can't connect even if you turn off all your firewalls (which, by the way, I don't need to do with any other device).
I still can't get it working and it's a piece of junk -- compared to the Western Digital HD live I can't see why anyone would buy this (and the only reason I did? Because WDTV hadn't been invented yet). So now I'm stuck with this paperweight that I can't even get $50 for. Sigh.
I don't even have any thing else to try -- as I said, it worked before, I didn't change anything (other than the new iTunes) and even with all firewalls turned off at the router and PC (something I do NOT need to do with WDTV) I still can't get connected without the error (iTunes does SEE ATV, and I can enter the code but that's about it). Oh well, I guess it was worth having for at least a few years (oh, wait -- no it wasn't :>)
(Note: all of this may not apply if you use a Mac. Apple has never really taken kindly to us PC users, although they begrudgingly try).

  • ITunes install kills Outlook

During the install of the 7.6.2.9 update on a Vista machine, Microsoft Outlook (and the email I was composing) was killed! There was no warning or confirmation. This is VERY unsocial behavior. Is Apple consciously trying to become like Microsoft? Or, like Microsoft, are you just getting to the point where there are too many smart people working without adult supervision?

You can give feedback directly to Apple on the matter, if you so please, via the product feedback forms. (You've posted in a user-to-user troubleshooting forum, and there's no guarantee that someone from Apple will see your concerns here.)

  • Activating itunes match kills my network

activating itunes match consistently brings my 15mb internet connection to a crawl. Packet loss etc.. kill itunes and my overall connection goes back to 15 mb. While iTunes Match is running and doing its thing connection is like 1 or 2mb and packet loss. This is a consistent repeatable problem.

You haven't said if the first iTunes Match session on your computer has been completed.  If it has not, then it's possible that's contributing to your troubles.
Even if it is not, the first suggestion I have is to go to the settings on your Music app and toggle the new setting that appears once you have match enabled.  Set it so show only the songs that are on your iPod Touch.  By default it will show you what is in the cloud, plus what is local on the iPod Touch.  So long as that music got on the iPod Touch from the computer you are using for iTunes Match, it should all still be there.
You may also want to power off the iPod Touch, wait a minute and power it back up.
If you want to submit feedback to Apple, you can do it at this link.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
I should have added that if you haven't had a chance to read up on how iTunes Match works, you can learn a lot at this link.  Be sure to check out the viewo at the top of the page.  Also the page has links to a lot of knowledge base documents, including some that deal specifically with iOS devices.

  • Itunes 5 killed my internet explorer??

I recently upgraded to itunes5 and it's had the nasty effect of killing internet exporer. All I can now get is 'cannot display page'. My connection is fine but it just won't display pages. I've tried deleting addtional winsock files etc. but no joy.
In desparation I reformatted and the problem dispeared - until i reinstalled 5 and it killed ie again. I've now reformatted again but need my itunes!! any help, suggestions much appreciated

  • Current iTunes upgrade kills ALL internet connection to computer

I'm using iTunes on Windows XP SP3.  Previous versions were not a problem.  I upgraded to the current version (11.0.2) and lost all internet connectivity, not just to the iTunes store, but to ALL applications; my computer reported that NO internet connection was present at all.  Doing a system restore resolved this, but the upgrade left some remnant that has rendered the previously working version of iTunes inoperable; when I execute it, it suggests I download the current version to correct the problem, but of course that kills my internet connection altogether and thus is not a solution.
Googling this has indicated fixes involving:
    1) Deleting the iTunesPrefs.XML file
    --> That didn't work.
    2) A solution involving executing "netsh winsock reset" at the command prompt and then rebooting.
    --> That didn't work either.
In fact, nothing I could find online worked.  I am NOT using Norton, McAfee, or any other anti-virus or firewall that would be causing the conflict.  Again, I'm using Windows XP SP3, and have a direct internet feed into my computer.
What can be done to fix this?  Currently I cannot use iTunes at all on my computer because of the upgrade and the havoc it's caused (the System Restore did NOT restore the previous working version of iTunes; when I execute it, it claims a component is missing and I should download and install the current version...)
    Many thanks in advance,
    Tom

  • ITunes 7 killed all of our iPods

I just upgraded to iTunes 7. After charging each iPod, each one is frozen. The mac desktop doesn't see them, and neither does iTunes. It killed a Shuffle, Nano, and Mini. The reset and restore attempts did not work. Trying other USB ports and other Macs did not help. They don't come on and are not recognized. They are flat out dead. PLEASE HELP.

    Hi
i'm SO not great with these kind of things, but have you tried connecting the pods to an external power source. i.e. a charger, or an ipod dock or ipod stereo or similar? the same thing happened to me when i had an ipod mini, and an assistant at the store where i bought the ipod told me to try the above. i plugged mine into the charger, without connecting it to the computer, and left it overnight. at first i really thought it wouldn't work, because the ipod didn't respond, but when i looked next morning it was charging normally.
    hope this helps.

  • ITunes 7 killed my iPod!!??

My iPod suddenly started acting squirrelly after updating to iTunes 7... every time I connected it to my computer, it made iTunes freeze. I couldn't update it with some new music I had added to iTunes, so I went through the 5 Rs as described on Apple's support site. I got to the Restore stage, and I killed my iPod!
During the Restore process, my whole system froze. I was forced to shut down the computer and restart, and now all I get on my iPod is the apple logo and a spinning hard disk. I can restart it, but not shut it off. My computer won't recognize it at all. All I could do was let the battery run down, hard disk spinning all the way.
Has this been caused by the iTunes update? I've read LOTS of posts on this forum about sudden ipod problems after the update. Does Apple have any news/updates on this problem? If their update killed my iPod, what will they do about it?
Anyone else have an apple logo and nothing else? Any ideas to fix?
PS - It's a 3rd gen 30GB iPod... kind of older, but I do love it so! I'm going through withdrawals already...

  • ITunes has killed my iPod-mini

A few days ago iTunes started saying my iPod-mini was "corrupted" and would no longer sync (or add new stuff).
I was suspicious that this was not true, but in order to ever add anything else I had no choice but to allow iTunes to reset the iPod, which means it is now EMPTY.
Then I resynced and iTunes claimed to have put everything back on the iPod, but when I try to eject the iPod-mini, iTunes hangs, and I have to "Force Quit." Meanwhile, the iPod-mini remains empty!
So now I have an empty iPod that iTunes claims has content and whenever I try to eject the iPod, iTunes crashes!
My nano seems to be syncing without any problems.

    More details:
Since trying to eject the iPod-mini from iTunes crashes iTunes, I also tried ejecting it from the desktop. When I do this NOTHING happens.
Naturally, if I just remove it. I get an error message and the iPod is still EMPTY even though iTunes claims to have just put all then content on the device!
    This does not make sense!

  • ITunes 7 killed my 3G iPod

I can't believe it. I've had this 3g iPod with few problems for a couple of years now. I just installed iTunes 7 and the thing no longer works. My PC doesn't recognise it in any way. I've tried the 5Rs and can't get the majority of them to work. Can't upload songs, can't restore it, can't do anything.
I don't suppose Apple is going to stump up a few hundred quid for a new one?

Perhaps if you have access to another pc, you could try and load iTunes 7 on that, connect the iPod and use restore to restore the iPod to factory settings.

  • ITunes "Feature" Killed Half My Subscriber #s; Apple, please stop this

I've been bitten for the second time by Apple iTunes trying to be "smart."
    Here's what happens in iTunes...
If iTunes detects that your feed address is being redirected to a new address, they change all of your iTunes subscribers over to the new feed and change the feed address in the directory. Seems nice but...
    Here's what happened to me...
My web host recently changed their infrastructure over to new servers. In the switch, my feed address:
    http://www.gothamcast.com/feed
was redirected by my host to http://j (go figure) for a short time.
iTunes saw this and changed my iTunes subscribers to the supposed "new" address. Not only that, but it was changed in the directory, preventing anyone from really subscribing to my actual feed. To make matters worse, the Report a Concern button is not working.
Now I know iTunes is the 800 lb gorilla in this space, but please please, Apple, stop trying to be smart with the feed redirects. I have no way of informing all those listeners who are now subscribed to the bogus feed address. This has ruined months of time building this audience.

Man, that's frustrating. I think I'd file a complaint with your web host as well. It sounds like they mangled a configuration during their switch. Mike

  • ITunes 8 killed my library

I just down loaded iTunes 8 and activated Genius. And now I can't play a single song in my library. Help!!!

Have been saved by a reinstall of iTunes 8, but mostly, a backup copy of my iTunes library. The first upgrade (from within the control panel) shrinked the library from 45Mb to 38Kb (emptied of all references).
It's a good thing to back up your library before you upgrade. If you don't have a backup copy of your library and are facing the same issue, I think your screwed.

  • Trying to access iTunes Store kills network

    Mac Mini, Mavericks 10.9.1, iTunes 11.1.3 (8).
When I open iTunes, and click on the "iTunes Store" button, my network connection dies, and nothing will revive it other than rebooting. Any ideas on what might be causing this? I'm connecting to the network using an ethernet cable, not wi-fi.

Took the same route as ricin beans,
Complete reinstall, as painful as it was... at least it all works now.
Luckily I've only had my MBP a week and hadn't had anything on it other than music to export/import, no doubt others aren't so lucky and still waiting for Apple's cure, if they ever provide one.
