ITunes 10 (Mac) no longer sees my iPhone 4

iTunes no longer thought it was installed on my computer. I installed it, I re-associated my  music, and then I tried to sync my phone, but because I manage music manually, I was getting an error message. I called Applecare to see what the error message meant. After 45 minutes on the phone, we determined that I could sync my phone, and then just restore it to the most recent backup.
Before I did that, I transferred my purchases from the phone to iTunes one more time to be safe. When I had time later, I sat down to begin the sync process.
THat's when iTunes stopped seeing my phone. It connects and I see the little wheel turn, but then it disappears.  image capture launches and connects to my phone, and in the iTunes *menu* it sees my phone, just not in the sidebar.
I tried right-clicking on it to start the restore process as soon as it showed up in the sidebar, but that didn't work.
I have updated iTunes.
I have re-installed iTunes (although in Lion you can't delete it completely so all I could do is install it over the existing version of iTunes).
I have gone through all of the checklists in the support section. I have changed the cable, I have changed the USB port, the phone is fully charged.
I spent half an hour on hold yesterday with Applecare and never got through to a tech. In order for me to actually be able to get on the phone with them, it means that I have to use my boyfriend's phone for however long it takes, and he's not always home when I have time to call Apple.
Anyone got any other ideas? Every other document I have found in the KB is for pre-Lion. I cannot find anyone else that this is happening to that is on a Mac and on Lion and on iOS5 and the latest version of iTunes. What am I missing?

iTunes 10.7 does indeed work on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Do you mean you have Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard? If so, and you updated your iPhone 4S to iOS 6 on some other computer, then you may be out of luck synching to your 10.5.8 system, but you can get and try 10.6.3 here:

  • ITunes Store app no longer loading on iPhone 5 (using iOS 7)

I've upgraded to the new iOS 7.0.2 and everything was working fine but all of a sudden the iTunes Store app no longer loads properly.  When I tap on the icon the app flickers but loads in the background.  It doesn't actually open.  If I double tap the "home" button, I can see the app in the background with any other app that hasn't been closed.  When I tap the iTunes store app, when it's in the background, to try and open it from there, it just stays in the background.  This was initially working fine when I first loaded the new OS.  Has anybody experienced this?  I've tried to completely shutdown the phone and restart it with no success.  I've also tried re-syncing it with iTunes on my Mac with no success as well.  An email to Apple over a week ago still hasn't been answered.  If anybody has experienced this and can help, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks

Problem resolved.  A friend suggested that I go into iTunes on my Mac and backup the phone then try and do a restore.  This seems to have worked.  I'll update again if this fix doesn't hold.

  • I've just updated my os to 5.1 and iTunes no longer sees my iPhone 4

I've tried all the diagnostics on the support pages. All I'm seeing on the iPhone screen is the USB lead and the iTunes icon. My iPod is syncing perfectly with iTunes but not my iPhone very frustrating. Any suggestions. I've even tried changing usb ports but all I seem to get is a composite device (not even a camera).

  • As of iOS 8.1.1, iTunes no longer sees my iPhone at all.

I download new music on my computer regularly, and thus, sync my iTunes library to my iPhone regularly. As soon as I updated my iPhone from iOS 8.1 to 8.1.1, iTunes on my computer was no longer able to see my iPhone at all. The first time I tried to sync after updating, I noticed that my iPhone did not appear in iTunes as it always had. I thought I had turned off wifi on the phone, but that was not the case. I have not been able to get iTunes to find my phone via wifi since then. Next, I tried to plug my phone into my computer with an Apple lightning cable. This charged my phone, but my phone still never appeared in iTunes. I get a message on my phone asking me if I 'trust' the computer that the phone is connected to (despite the fact that these two devices have been syncing regularly for about 2 years now). I press 'yes,' and that does nothing. The next time I plug it in, it asks me the same thing again. I have made sure both OSs and iTunes are up to date, and have restarted both devices. Everything else seems to be working fine. It's as if the iOS 8.1.1 update is somehow prohibiting iTunes from recognizing / communicating with my iPhone.
iPhone 5, iOS 8.1.1, never jailbroken
    MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008), OS X 10.10, running iTunes 12.0.1.26

I'm having the same problem, but on a Windows 8 computer. I've literally done everything to try to rectify this problem, including uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes on several different occasions, wiping my phone clean, and changing around the drivers several times. I have a feeling it's not iTunes' fault since I can connect my mother's iPhone 6 to the computer just fine. Everything was fine until the 8.1.1 update dropped and now everything's gone wrong.

  • ITunes no longer "sees" my iPhone 4

I just upgraded iTunes to 11.1.4.62 (latest version) on Windows 8.1.  Since doing this, iTunes does not "see" my iPhone 4.
    I've tried the following:
    - signing out and signing back in to iTunes
    - deauthorizing all computers and reauthorizing the PC I'm working on
    - uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes
    - shutting down and restarting my PC
    - shutting down and restarting my iPhone 4
iTunes does not "see" my iPhone automatically or if I launch iTunes and then connect my iPhone.
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you,
    Jeff

  • After 8.0.1 to 8.0.2 upgrade, iTunes no longer sees my iPhone..

I'm at a loss. I've done everything listed on the generic help page...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US
...and I still can't get iTunes to see my iPhone. It worked fine yesterday, but after the iTunes update, I doesn't show up at all. I can see the "Apple iPhone" under cameras in My Computer so I know it's making a connection. I've repaired iTunes. I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. I started and stopped the services. I've restarted my computer, my iPhone. I've tried different USB ports. I've run CCleaner to delete any and all temp crap left behind by anything.
And still nothing works. I'm at a loss, any more suggestions? =(

Me too, the headache started yesterday for me. i had to switch everything to an older laptop, its slow but will work for now. It's a real headache cause i have xp pro x64(which there is no itunes support!!!) so to get itunes to work on that required google searching to see how to hack/extract x64 installer from itunes and add individual parts seperately from regular itunes 8.0.1 for xp pro 32bit. so it wasnt like i could just update to 8.0.2
Anyhow after much searching and failed attempts i had to start anew on a laptop w/just xp pro had to install office (have to set up calendar, import contacts/erase music to sync on that computer now/calendars/move external music drive to laptop...etc...blah blah blah). inconvenient! all within the last 24 hrs.

  • Mac no longer sees 2G iTouch

After syncing fine for months, my Mac Mini last week reported an "unknown" error after trying to sync with my 2G iTouch. Then it suddenly stopped detecting the iTouch altogehter. The facts are these:
    1) iTunes 8.2.1 (6)
    2) OS X 10.4.11
    3) iTouch OS 3.0 (7A341)
    4) iTouch model MB528LL, 7 Gb
    5) Mac detects and syncs with other, non-iTouch ipods (nano2, nano3, shuffle) with no problem.
    6) Mac does not detect iTouch at all. iTouch will not even charge off Mac
    7) iTouch is detected, interoperates with and can be charged by old HP computer running Windows XP with no probelm.
    8) Have rebooted the iTouch several times to no effect.
    9) Have reset all settings on the iTouch to no effect.
    10) Have tried connecting using several different cables (all of which have worked fine in the past) to no effect.
    11) iTouch works fine in all other respects. I can charge it off the PC or by using a standalone charger. Can download apps, get updates, get email, surf web. Just can't by seen by the Mac anymore regardless of which cable I use.
Wondering if this has something to do with upgrading to OS 3 on the iTouch. Problem started after that. Am I supposed to change a setting in the iTouch or make some change on the Mac in order to have the Mac recognize the iTouch after the upgrade?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
As you may have discovered, just because the other iPods sync, your touch doesn't. The reason for this is that the touch and iPhone use something named Apple Mobile Device Support to handle the communication between iTunes and the touch.
The following article will tell you how to completely remove iTunes and associated pieces of software before reinstalling iTunes and correcting the problem: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
This should correct things but to be totally sure, restart your Mini before you try connecting your iPod again.

  • ITunes 8.2 no longer sees 2 Apple TV devices until...

    Hello,
I've seen many posts over the months about people having problems getting their Apple TV to connect with iTunes. Until this morning I thought that I must just have things "set up right."
I updated to iTunes 8.2 shortly after it was released. I don't know how long my two Apple TVs have not been showing up in the sidebar. This morning I noticed it because I bought some songs off the iTMS and was unable to right-click on my main music Apple TV (a 160 GB model). The 40 GB one connected to my HDTV is also AWOL. They both were still in my Apple TV Preferences panel and both said "Syncing" in the status column. Both Apple TVs still have network access as does the iMac. I have an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station with Gigabit Ethernet.
Here's everything I tried, in order:
    1) Restarted my 24" aluminum iMac with iTunes 8.2 and OS 10.5.7
    2) Pulled the plug (i.e. rebooted) both Apple TVs
    3) Told iTunes to "forget" both Apple TVs.
    4) Told the 160 GB Apple TV to "forget" my iMac's iTunes.
    5) Updated the AEBS to the latest firmware (7.4.1)
    6) Told the 160 GB Apple TV to connect to an iTunes and noted the 5-digit access code. iTunes on two different computers running 10.5.7 and iTunes 8.2 fail to see the Apple TV in the Preferences panel. The "Look for Apple TVs" checkbox is enabled.
    7) Restore factory defaults on the 160 GB ATV and reattach to the network. Step 6 failed again, same symptoms.
    8) Downloading the latest ATV software to update the 160 GB ATV again. Repeat step 6.
Now, miraculously, both devices appear in the sidebar in the un-set up state with the name "Apple TV." Great. I get to resync 100 GB of music and video. That ought to saturate my poor network for a couple days. I hope this never happens again but somehow I suspect that I have joined the significant percent of ATV users with problems like this.
    Feh.

  • ITunes music playlists no longer syncing with iPhone on iOS 7?

I have the latest version of iTunes, and iOS 7.1, but my playlists have not been synching with my device since iOS 7! I have tried completed disconnecting all music synching, then turning on a few playlists at a time, but nothing works. I have a few playlists on my iPhone (from my last successful sync), but those play counts are not propagating back to my home computer, and none of my home playlists will ever transfer on to my iPhone.
Help! Music synching has become useless to me until this problem is fixed!
    Thanks!

Version 11.1.5.5 of iTunes was just released today. If you update to that, does that help with the syncing troubles?

  • 1 file in iTunes on Mac won't sync with iPhone 3GS

I have one big mp3 file (around 100 MB) that's in iTunes 9.2.1 on my Macbook that won't automatically sync with my iPhone 3GS (iOS4.1).
When I turn 'manage manually' on, I can drag this file to the iPhone and that does work.
But when I turn 'manage manually' off again, the next sync this file is removed again from my iPhone.
Any ideas how to solve this? I removed the file from iTunes and reloaded it back in, but no luck.

Thanks. I checked that already and the weird thing is, that is says 'Music' there, but in list view in iTunes it's ranked under 'Podcast' (in the Artist column). When I imported the file in iTunes, it was correctly categorized under the right artistname (not in 'Podcast'), but after syncing with my iPhone it was suddenly categorized as a podcast.
    Weird...
