ITunes 10 multiple errors and bug

So, I installed iTunes 10. Big mistake.
It worked fine for about two hours. When it first opened it did the checking iTunes library thing (65Gb on a Drobo connected to a Windows 7 box) took about 5 minutes doing it, then opened fine.
I updated my iPhone to IOS4.1 and went to bed leaving the update downloading.
Next day, I remove iPhone, close iTunes and go to work.
Come home, open iTunes and then sit waiting for about 35-45 minutes for it to open, all the while watching a lot of data (by the time it had finished, at least 7-800mb) go between the W7 box and my Mac Pro on Little Snitch. Once it finally opens, I connect my iPhone to it and it starts again; spinning wheel; freeze-o-matic. This is no good, I think, and then it's finished. Great, I think. Oh no; it wants to re-download all of my apps and it no longer recognises that my iPhone was previously synced with it.
So, I do the delete iTunesLibrary and the proper export-re-import of the xml thing, re-create my library. It still takes 35-45 mins to open, and now the Apps menu under library is missing altogether, even though I can see, and choose whether to sync, all of the apps on the iPhone.
This is really not good enough, Apple. This software is broken. It cannot deal with my library being on a remote drive (iTunes 9 was fine with this) and it has mashed up my iPhone (twice, now)
What is going on?
When I speak to AppleCare they act like I have a bad install or something (I deleted and re-downloaded it - that's when my apps menu disappeared) It is ridiculous. I am going to export all of my playlists when it finally opens this time and DOWNGRADE back to iTunes 9.1
Why fix what wasn't broken? Why pretend there is no problem?

  • ITUNES SHOWS ERROR AND NEED TO CLOSE

    Hi,
itunes page shows error and need to close everytime I plug in the iphone to my desktop. why?

+"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close."+
let's first check to see if this is associated with a problem with your QuickTime. (iTunes needs a properly functioning QuickTime in order to work correctly.)
try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

  • What causes the itunes.msi error and what is the best way to fix it?

i have windows xp. when trying to update to itunes 8.2-the installer can not locate the Itunes.msi file. i found the file but the installer can't use it. this is also the case when i try to delete itunes and/or reinstall.
what causes this error and could someone point me in the right direction as how to fix this.
also i can't open itunes without having my ipod connected..so annoying. is that normal?
    thanks. =)

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • ITunes installation errors and Apple Mobile Device Errors

First I will explain how I got to where I am now. I had the an iTunes 7 version, don't know the specific, and I have an ipod touch. I had been ignoring the iTunes 8 upgradge things upon open of iTunes, cause i had absolutely no need for it and syncing music to my ipod was still working, and i dont care for itunes besides being able to use my ipod. Then the iphone os 3.0 came out and i wanted to download/pay for it, and when i attempted to do this i was promptly instructed that I needed iTunes 8. I closed itunes and reopened so i could just tell the prompt that i wanted to upgrade, then bonjour opened and i selected the itunes/quicktime package, it gave me an error saying i needed to download manually, so i turned off automatic install. I then downloaded again, it opened a folder with iTunes.msi among other things, I double clicked itunes.msi and it proceeded to install. I then had iTunes 8 installed, opened it up, and with my ipod touch connected, it told me I needed upgraded apple mobile device and i had to uninstall both apple mobile device and itunes to do this. so i uninstall itunes through add/remove programs, and attempted to uninstall apple mobile device and everytime i did this it would not complete and gave me "Fatal Error" prompt. I then tried to reinstall iTunes and it would not install, kept giving me an error and told me to try again. I searched google for answers and the best anyone could say was delete missing files and try again, so i can CCleaner and got rid of registrys etc, and still would not allow me to uninstall apple mobile device. i reinstalled itunes and it actually worked this time, and then i plug in my ipod touch and it tells me i need the upgraded apple mobile device again, and that i need to uninstall apple mobile device and itunes to do this. If i could get rid of apple mobile device altogether maybe i wouldnt have this problem, but it simply wont let me. Any help with this? and sorry this was so long, i figured someone would need to know what happened to know how to fix it.

It sounds as though using the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility is worth a go.
I will give you a method for removal of iTunes and related programs with clean up, I think you have already done the removal, but just in case you missed anything out.
    ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Save the files on your PC.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • Flash Player version 12 errors and bugs

Since the automatic update on Sunday to version 12 I continually get script errors and crashing. News broadcast, flash games, anything and everything that uses Flash doesn't work anymore. Is there a patch for the new Flash Player and/or a safe way to revert back to the older version of Flash Player version 11?

  • Draft e-mail error - "APPEND" causes multiple errors and crash

I had a draft e-mail prior to installing Leopard. After Leopard installed I opened Mail back up and received an error about a draft e-mail and it had to "APPEND". It regenerates the same error 4 or 5 times in a row and then crashes Mail.
I've gone into my mail account via Webmail and deleted the Draft e-mail. There are no drafts on the server, but the Mail app keeps trying to grab it.
I've turned off Mailbox Behaviors regarding Trash as this is the only thing I could find near my problem. I will try to grab a screen capture if necessary.

I bumped into the same bug. For some reason(*) Mail couldn't perform some action and was trying to recover by saving a local copy, then complained with the same error message multiple times. It would consistently crash after repeating it about 3/5 times, or even faster if I hit enter instead of just clicking the alert window.
I had to reset Mail completely (manually renaming my Mail folder and Mail preferences to keep a backup, because the "reset and relaunch" feature would not reset Mail at all) then recreating each account manually one by one. Tedious work .
(*) The reason is that Mail 3 in Leopard has a +big issue+ connecting via SSL to more than two accounts on the same IMAP server. With 4 accounts I keep getting SSL connection errors than I never saw with Mail 2.

  • ITunes encounters error and needs to close?

i bought an ipod about a year and a half ago... everything worked fine until i decided to upgrade. itunes does not work at all! at first when i clicked on the shortcut (i have windows) nothing would happen. now i try again, and it always comes up and says: "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." i have been trying this for a month and a half w/ no success. PLEASE HELP, I'M ABOUT TO GIVE UP ON ITUNES ENTIRELY!

  • Sigil, error and bug reporting

I finally got around to updating my desktop to Arch, I have been running my file and print servers with Arch and without problems for over a year.
So far everything has gone pretty well, a few problems, mainly caused by me misstyping something, all problems solved by searching the wiki and the forums. But now I have a problem I cannot find any answer to, so my first post here is to ask for help.
I installed Sigil from the official repositories, no errors reported, but it will not run. Starting from cli gives the error 'Could not load a transcoding service.' The only forum reference I can find to transcoding is 3 years old and seems to be connected with gstreamer and firefox. Can anyone point me to further information that will allow me to solve this?
While searching for help I came across the Sigill package page here which states that the program has been flagged out of date a month ago, despite the fact that the version there is the latest release from the developers. I was going to post the error as a bug on the package page but was informed that I should not post bugs on out of date packages, so what is the proceedure for posting bugs in cases like this?

weedfreak wrote:I installed Sigil from the official repositories, no errors reported, but it will not run. Starting from cli gives the error 'Could not load a transcoding service.'
I cannot confirm that issue. Sigil works fine on my local machines.
By the way, please file a bug report at https://bugs.archlinux.org/ and copy&paste the complete output you're getting from the cli.

  • ITunes encounters error and startup fails

My iTunes will not load. Up until this happened iTunes was working just fine. I'm running Windows XP Media Center on a Pentium Dual processor PC with 2Gb RAM. I have tried to re-install both iTunes & QuickTime and the iTunes error message appears during the un-install so that fails. I have unloaded both iTunes and QuickTime manually and tried to re-install with no success. There are files left on the harddrive from both programs when I manually delete and I cannot remove them using Windows Explorer. Should I try removing in Safe Mode? Any other help would be greatly appreciated. Windows Media Player is just not the same! Thanks

For anyone reading this, I have resolved. I started XP in Safe Mode (F8 at startup) and manually deleted all files relating to both iTunes and QuickTime with the exception of 1 iTunes file that looked like it might be my music data file. I then re-installed iTunes & QuickTime and both programs now work and I still have all music data in my Playlists.

I am unable to update itunes on my pc. I also can not remove to try for new load. Help please

    Try the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
