ITunes 10 - Mutliple Accounts no longer working on ATV

Just when I thought upgrading to Itunes 10 was a breeze...
In my house we have 3 Apple TV's. My wife and two kids each have their own iTunes accounts. We often play each others music or watch each others shows or movies and simply authorise all 4 computers to play each others purchases so this can happen. The only rule in the house is that if anyone adds items to their iTunes library (purchase or otherwise) it needs to be imported to my iTunes library (I use Home Sharing to do this) so we can keep one library with ALL our content. This library is then backed up (synchronised) with a Raid 5 NAS for safe keeping. All sound good so far? Well, it has always worked for us. The syncing library for all Apple TV's was, naturally, my library which would happily sync any content within my library no matter who had purchased it. I have been doing this for nearly three years without a hitch.
Like many of you, I installed iTunes 10 on the day it appeared. Other than the change in the GUI, nothing changed. The sync's to the Apple TV's kept working. The library updates kept working. In fact, all was good in the household.
Every now and then I factory reset the Apple TV's because the response time from the remotes seems to improve each time I do it (maybe once every 3 months). After the firmware update I connected the Apple TV and started up syncing again. This time things were not good. The only thing it would sync were the items that were "owned" by the Apple TV at the time (ie the account login on the ATV). The rest were rejected in Itunes with the old message "items could not be synced because the Apple TV could not contact the store for authorisation" (or words to that effect).
Bummer! Why would they need to chnage this?

Well, I stand corrected (thank goodness).
In the past, all I have had to do was to make sure my copy of iTunes was authorised in order to have a trouble free sync of all content. Just out of pure luck I physically logged in and out of each account on my machine and then started sync again. This solved the problem but I can absolutely assure you that this was not the case under previous versions of iTunes.

  • ITunes classic visualizer no longer works in slide-show mode?

    I am using iTunes 8.1 (50) and have just noticed that the iTunes classic visualizer no longer works in slide show mode, which means that it just keeps the same colors and patterns without changing automatically, like it used to do. I can press "R" on the keyboard, which loads a new random collection of settings but again it just keeps them without changing. I tried also pressing "D" to go to default settings, but it did not help. Anybody else having this problem? Any ideas for a fix?

    Good to know it's not just me. Sure, the old visualizer is anything but a vital feature, but still it's cool to get some variety sometimes so I hope there comes a fix for it.

I just got an iPad 2 and want to get swtiched over to iCloud, but will wait if it will make my website inaccessible.

    Your iDisk, together with your website and Gallery if you have one, will be unaffected and will continue exactly as before after you migrate to iCloud.
    The migration process will probably log you out of MobileMe so you may need to go to System Preferences>MobileMe and log back in to be able to access your iDisk in the Finder. Web access will be unaffected.
    You will need Lion 10.7.2 on your iMac.

  • Sharing iTunes between user accounts no longer works in iTunes 10.4

    I recently upgraded to iTunes 10.4 (80). Still running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
    I have two user accounts on my MacBook Pro and my iTunes Media folder is shared i.e. /Users/Shared/ITunes/iTunes Media
    This has always worked with no problems but since upgrading to iTunes 10.4 I can no longer see my iTunes content from both accounts.
    First time I opened it after the upgrade it just presented me with an empty library. I eventually managed to see my iTunes content by deleting the iTunes library and xml files and relaunching iTunes. However when I quit and switch to the other user account I can't open iTunes - it keeps telling me that the library is locked or I don't have access to the files.
    I have to keep manually resetting permissions on the iTunes folder & subfolders in order to be able to launch it but even when I manage to open it from the second user account I just see an empty library again.
    I always used to be able to just quit iTunes in one user account and then launch it from the other; no permissions changes required. Now it just doesn't work.
    Please can someone offer advice or is this a known issue with the 10.4 release?

    I've been trying to do this same thing. My wife and I share one computer and she has her own login account to check email etc. I moved all the music, movies, videos to the shared folder. We can now "share" that music without having two iTunes media libraries. However, I want to remedy the situation of adding music from different accounts, adding and deleting playlists. How do I have that type of library data automatically get updated from account to account? I've asked this question in it's own thread about a week ago and it got buried with no responses or solutions.

  • POP Accounts no longer working after 3.0 Update?

    Before I upgraded to version 3.0 of the OS, I had two POP3 email addresses set up on it, they are still there but no longer work (download or send) nothing in the settings has changed from pre 3.0
    Anyone else experienced this problem? Anyone got a solution?
    My .Mac/MobileMe accounts are working as normal BTW....

    I linked through and submitted my info as a "topic not covered" in the iCloud section. After entering the serial number of my MBP it turns out I wasn't eligible for technical support (though I don't think this is hardware related support) and the final suggestion was to take my computer into an Apple store. I called my local Apple reseller and asked for assistance. The customer service rep was very nice but unable to help, so suggested I call Apple Support on 1300 321 456. I did so and, again, spoke to two very polite and helpful customer service people (I was transferred to security services). I didn't have to be on hold to speak to either rep for more than a few seconds! After trying a few different things, he worked out what was happening...
    So, to cut a long story short, to solve the problem in my OP, all I had to do was log out of iCloud in my System Preferences and log back in using my current Apple ID. [Edited to add that I had to sign out of everything I was currently signed in to with my Apple ID before logging out and in again.]

  • Pop account no longer working

    I have been downloading my gmail account to Mac Mail for 2 years now, but it is no longer working.
    I've gone through gmail's help page and double checked all of my settings, no issue.
    The error message I get:
    There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account "Gmail" or try again.
    The server error encountered was: The connection to the server "pop.gmail.com" on port 995 timed out.
    Any ideas?

    Well, it could be that the server is temporarily unavailable for some reason -- it works for me, though.
    Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
    Also, try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc., and see whether that makes a difference.

  • ICloud account no longer working in Messages app

    About 2 weeks ago, my iCloud account has stopped working in the Messages app (version 7.0.1) on my laptop (MacBook Pro 2011, running the latest Mountain Lion update, 10.8.5). Only this app seems to be affected -- Mail is functioning fine, as is Notes and Calendar. My iPhone and iPod touch also aren't affected.
    I was texting one of my friends while multitasking (I think I was working on a story I'm writing) when I realized that I was no longer receiving my text notifications on my computer. Initially I thought it just had logged out or something. I opened messages and tried to log back in to my icloud account, but I got the error message "Could not sign in to iMessage. The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later." I tried multiple times that day, and have multiple times since, but still no luck. Finally a day or two ago I thought maybe I just needed to deactivate iCloud on my laptop completely, and then reactivate it. So I tried that, but still I'm getting the error message.
    Incidentally, I have AIM enabled on Messages, too, but that account seems to be functioning - it's logged in and messages can be sent/received. Only my iCloud account seems to be failing.
    I don't have any outstanding updates in the App Store, and in the meantime I'm able to iMessage friends just fine from my phone, but I kinda miss being able to easily switch apps and type, while I've got my laptop open. Any ideas what the issue might be?

  • ITunes Home Sharing No Longer Working Under Lion

    Home Sharing is no longer working between Lion and my Apple TV or iPhone. I am able to watch Netflix through my Apple TV (2nd Gen) so I do have connectivity. I have restarted both devices, and updated iTunes to 10.4. Under "Advanced" in iTunes, Home Sharing is turned on. In Preferences in iTunes under Sharing, it says Status: On, no users connected, even though my Apple TV is connected to the network.
    Is this problem isolated, or are others experiencing the same issue?

    I'm up and running. Spoke with Apple and they had me go to : preferences, network and create a new location. That seems to have reset something. I had to reset all my devices back to my main network that had stopped working. The guest network will not let Home Sharing work, only the main network.
    Others have been able to use Home Sharing without clicking "Done" after typing in their password. After you click "Done" the Shared disappears in iTunes.
    Apple help people were GREAT!

  • AOL Account No Longer Works With iTunes / Import to Existing Apple ID?

    Ok, so iTunes told me today that all AOL users are now required to migrate to using an Apple ID to use the online music store. I already have an Apple ID, and I don't want to enter credit card information to create a new Apple ID.
    Is there a way to migrate my AOL account to my existing Apple ID? I have about $40 in iTunes gift card money on that account, and I'm sort of pisṡed that I'm being locked out of my own account suddenly without prior warning.

    I have not been able to find this form. I ran into the same problem, thinking I had money in my account prior to converting to my apple id. My credit card got charged. I will keep looking for this form you mention.

  • Photostream and Itune match are no longer working ?

    I couldn''t acces the Photostream wile in the previous releases I had no issue with that.
    So today I had some time and reinstalled my Apple TV 3, heart about some network problems and a reinstall should have solved the issues
    However, after the reinstall, I could no longer acces the Itunes Store, not Photostream or Itunes Match
    After a cold restart, I could acces the itunes store; Photostream still doesn''t work and Itunes Match starts to contact and tell me that i can take a view minutes to download, but after a couple of hours the Itunes Match songs are still not displayed
    So in fact I have a worthless Apple TV 3 now, which cannot play my cloud music, the only working function is Airplay
    I have to admit that was the main feature to buy the box for;
    Anything for the moment or are we facing real bug nows ?
    By the way, I have the Apple TV 3 connected via fixed ethernet using DHCP
    via a 100Mb synchronous connection.  Iphones, laptops, Ipad other devices are all working fine
    and the ethernetlink on the ATV  3 is also checked.

    Disabling Fixed Ethernet, and only use Wifi solves the issue. Looks like a bug on fixed ethernet

    SInce I upgraded to Lion, iTunes no longer automatically starts and syncs when I connect my iPhone or iPad.
    I checked the preferences:  both have the "start iTunes" automatically box checked.
    This is also the newest edition of iTunes:  10.4

    The fix involves iTunes helper.
    Go to login items and delete the one that's there.
    Then drag a new version of iTunes helper from the iTunes package to login items.
    I'm finding the transition to Lion more problematic than normal. Apple did not do a particularly good job of working the bugs out of this version of Mac os.

  • Gmail and IMAP mail accounts no longer work in the mail app since iOS 6

    I'm getting the User information or password is incorrect message.  Or it takes 10+ minutes to send a message.  It will no longer allow me to sync with my IMAP mail account from work.  Everything worked correctly, then iOS 6 is released and it's hosed.  I've looked online elsewhere and a few people from google are aware of the problem and are trying different things.  I tried enabling two-step id with google and providing an app-specific password to no avail. 
    Highly frustrated in this, and also in the fact that there are no useful workarounds.  Anyone have any thoughts?

    Hi, just update your extensions ( "Change quote and reply format 0.8.1" has to be installed an to be active) by using the updating-function for extensions integrated in Thunderbird.

    I play music through my iPhone 5 using iTunes Match. Recently, it stopped working. Suddenly, most songs have a red plus sign next to them. I've no idea what this means and the songs won't play.     You may have debris in your headphone jack blocking the sensor.  Try blowing hard on the jack, and inserting/removing your headphones quickly multiple times to clear it.
