my itunes will not open at all. it occasionally will open but when i plug my iphone into it the program freezes and crashes. please help as soon as possible
i think i might have a solution... i have windows vista and after i installed to latest itunes update everytime i tried to open it it would freeze. I tried everything, including uninstalling itunes and all of its components and reinstalled it numerous times. So i went to the itunes folder in my folders, not on itunes, and i deleted my itunes library and playlists. After that it worked just fine, all of my music was deleted but luckily i had my files saved elsewhere.
I hope this helped! I know its frustrating and APPLE/ITUNES NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!!! -
Started a Itunes software update this morning which didn't work. Now Itunes will not open at all. I get the following message."The program can't state becasue MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer."
There are a couple of options that I know of to fix the issue.
One is listed in this thread - https://discussions.apple.com/message/24606478#24606478 - and involves uninstalling iTunes and related components and then re-installing iTunes. You will need to read the instructions in the thread to see the correct uninstall order.
Second option is use System Restore to set your system back to a date prior to the iTunes update. I did this before finding the thread mentioned above.
Not sure exactly what the problem is but I know, after a search, that MSVCR80.dll was indeed already installed on my computer.

hey guys,
ever since I've reinstalled my pc with windows xp pro sp3, my itunes will not open at all.
every time i click on itunes.exe it does not do anything. It does give me the hourglass icon as if my pc is working on it. but then it disappears without any itunes response.
to fix this issue, I have tried any possible method that i could find on the internet. even called the support center but they were not able to help me either.
I have tried to reinstall itunes *(no effect)*
did something with the cryptographic something in the administrative tools menu *(no effect)*
I have deleted the itunes installer cache *(no effect)*
I installed any older versions,( btw 7 does not work either)but after updating it *(no effect)*
itunes 6 does work; but since i have an iphone it is completely useless for me. so *(no effect)*
the strange thing is that itunes.exe does appear in the "processes" tab in task manager, but it does not show in the "applications" tab.
and every time I shut down my pc, I get the windows message that itunes is shutting down.
If you have any other suggestions, please be so kind help me.
this is driving me nuts. It's been going on for two months now.
Kind regards,
Bart

I am not sure if I have this right from all those posts.
When you try to start iTunes, there is no error message and you can see iTunes.exe persisting on the processes tab of the task manager.
If that is your probelm it is commonly do to a problem with cryptographic services.
Before looking into that there is a quick thing to try:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776?viewlocale=en_US
If that's not it, work carefully through *method 4* in the following article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798
Make a careful note of any error messages you get, this is important. post back the names of any dlls mentioned in error messages.
If you don't get any error messages try starting iTunes. -
My itunes will not open at all - I repeatedly get the message"itunes library is corrupted...not installed correctly...please reinstall itunes" I have tried opening all my itunes folders but nothing will even open.
Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch your iTunes now? -
i plugged in my iphone to restore it but while restoring itunes shutdown itself . if my iphone is not connected to the mac itune works but when i connect my iphone to my mac itunes does not open at all.
Hi Arjun sache,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're seeing an issue with iTunes shutting down unexpectedly when your iPhone is connected to the Mac. Take a look at the article below, it provides a lot of great troubleshooting tips that may be able to resolve the issue for you.
iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

I hope this helps.

After Upgrading tolatest version of iTUNES, iTUNES will NOT OPEN AT ALL.
I call support, they told me to go to add/remove programs and delete the Apple files and also QuickTime. I deleted those, I Emptied trash, and I restarted my machine.
I re-installed iTunes and it still will not open. Please help. I need iTunes to open! It will install - just never opens.I am having the same thing happen.
Yesterday I downloaded 10.8.3 and installed it along with all updates.
Now if I click on iTunes from the dock it just sits there with the light dot under it.
If I go to Force Quit, it has iTunes highlighted in red saying (NotResponding) -
When I click on the desktop icon for my itunes, it does not open. Instead a window opens that says, +The itunes application could not be opened. The required folder could not be found.+ My folder was not deleted. It is still on my computer. I can acess it, in my user account. But I can't open itunes anymore.
Hi b noir, thanks for your reply. I did initially look at the itunes trouble shooting page and I tried to follow what they said to do for user specific trouble shooting. But I have no idea where to find this: ■C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
■C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
So I can't do it if I can't find it on my machine. I'm assuming 'C' means disk C? and I found 'users' when I right clicked 'Explore'. Then I found my user name and opened it. Then I was lost because I cannot find AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes or AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes. So I was unable to go any farther. That's when I posted my problem here. Can you or anyone else help me farther? Unfortunately I need something more specific, then what itunes trouble shooting is prepared to give. I forgot to add that my pc is shared and my kids' itunes open just fine. So this is definitely a user specific problem! Is it possible that something I downloaded the other day, corrupted the library? I deleted the offending song, and re-started, but itunes still didn't open. Not that I expected it to work that easily but it was worth a try. -
iTunes won't seem to open at all, there must be some kind of a glitch going on. Anyone have answers?
same with mac app store

After install, iTunes does not open at all.
I installed Mavericks on my 2011 Macbook Pro the other day. Everything went well and everything seems to be working normally except iTunes.
When I click on it in the dock, the icon bounces a few times, or just once, but then nothing else happens. It never opens. Same thing when I click on it directly from the applications folder.
Any ideas?

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -
Upgraded from 6.04 to 6.05. Now Itunes will not open at all
I had 6.04 on an XP Pro PC working fine. I did the suggested upgrade to 6.05 and the install appeared to go fine, but when I click on the program I get an hour glass for a few seconds and then nothing. I have repaired and reinstalled and same thing. PC is kept very clean with no viruses or internet garbage. Any suggestions?
AZTeacherI did as instructed and set up a new account with admin access and it worked fine, went back to my original account which also has admin access and it still locks up and if I ctrl alt del and check the applications it says not responding
that's the result i wanted to see. that's suggesting that there's a problem with the itunes preference files in the account which is getting the "Not Responding" freeze. (there's a different set of preference files in each user account, so different users can set different itunes preferences. that's why you can have preference-file-related problems in one user account but not in another.)
we can usually get past this by rebuilding the preference files in the problematic account. here's how we'll do that.
quit itunes, and log into the account with the freeze. now we find the preference files. they're in hidden directories on the PC, so you might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.)
first find:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
... rename it "iTunes.pref1" and drag it to your desktop.
next find:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
... rename it "iTunes.pref2" and drag it to your desktop.
now try launching itunes again in that user account. that should rebuild your preference files in that account again.
(the itunes setup assistant will run, you'll be asked to agree to the license again, and so forth.)
does it still freeze with new pref files in place?
if it doesn't freeze, and everything's working fine again, would you mind attaching the two preference files that you renamed and dragged to the desktop to an email to this address? (in the email, include the URL to this thread so the person who gets the email has some context.)
send them to this email address
(trying to help some folks work out what's actually causing the Not "Responding" freeze.) -
Hopefully I am not the only one with this problem and I hope someone can help!

I don't know why, but iTunes will not open at all. When I click on the icon in the dock, it will bounce for a few seconds and then an error message will pop up saying that iTunes quit unexpectedly.
Why is this happening? I restarted several times but I'm still getting the same thing. Please help!http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1955763&tstart=0
same thing by chance? -
My itunes is not opening at all. As a result I can not communicate with my ipod. My Windows Media Player is running well and all the other programs on my computer are fine. If I try to open it, it says 'itunes has encountered a problem and is closing'. It will not even show a fragment of the itunes page. If I try to open Quick time , it says 'an exception occured while trying to run shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL'. I have tried to uninstal itunes or re-instal it and it refuse after going 70% of the way. Also Quick Time refuses to unistal.
Yours
Hopehmmm...i see a few potential problems. First, Try downloading the Quicktime standalone player and prior to do this, TURN OFF your Antivirus and Spyware programs. Find the Quicktime Standalone player here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
If this just randomly happened one day where iTunes would not just open up, its very possible your PC has been infested by the Qoologic adware program that causes this errorless crash of iTunes. There is a free program that has been catching it. Find it here: http://www.ewido.net/en/
Post back with your progress.
