ITunes 10 reopen

iTunes 10 always reopens immediately upon quitting.
Only happens once, as in doesn't reopen after quitting the second time

Do you have Gimme some tune installed? If it's your case, please, uninstall it and try it again.
It worked for me and many other people.

is your ipod connected? if it is, i noticed it will reopen non stop for me. other reasons ive found for reopening are things like the dell dock or object dock. basically any program that uses itunes can make it open randomly. its pretty lame. just look at everything that uses it and eliminate them one by one till you find it. (i disconnected my printer and it worked...no i dea how that has anything to do with itunes but you know what whatever works lol)

  • ITunes reopens immediately after I quit it?

I'm running the most recent update for Apple that is available, Mavericks. iTunes is 11.2.1.
After I've been using my Macbook Air for a little while, iTunes gets weird- it won't let me turn the volume up past like 30%, and when I try to quit it (and command-option-escape) it reopens right away.
I have no idea what to do.
If I restart my computer the problem goes away for a while, but it's always back.
Any help at ALL would be really appreciated.
    Thanks.

A third-party application or widget trying to communicate with iTunes is the likely culprit. (This includes the iTunes Dashboard widget.) Try disabling such items and see if the behavior stops.

  • ITunes reopens automatically after quiting

This problem has been happening through the last few updates. I quit (or even force quit) iTunes, and it reopens automatically. It's a real problem now because it's actually preventing me from shutting down my Mac. I have no programs running with it except for TuneUp, but iTunes will automatically restart even with TuneUp disabled. Please help me.

I have the same problem over here, it is really annoying because i cant even shut down my mac,
i had to force shutdown on the button twice, because of this problem.
Does anyone else has this problem ?

  • After quitting itunes reopens... what the..

err.. yes indeed.. its true, after quitting itunes it reopens itself a few seconds later.. oh it was fine til i upgraded it to 7.7 this morning.. please advise

Try deleting the iTunes preferences file. Quit iTunes. Go to User Name>Library>Preferences. Find the file com.apple.iTunes.plist and trash it. Open iTunes again and it will look like you're opening it for the first time. Also if you use the iTunes widget or any widget that has to do with iTunes, close it.

  • Can't retain viewing settings when itunes reopens

I use my ipod with itunes on two computes, one Windows XP, one MAC 10.4. Whenever I listen to music from the ipod through itunes (the ipod is the DEVICE)I set the controls and view for how I want them: e.g. I want it to shuffle the songs and want the equilizer setting to appear on the columns, and want the songs arranged alphabetically. I save this setting, but whenever I close and reopen itunes it goes back to another setting. Can anything be done? (This didn't happen in earlier versions of itunes) Many thanks.

    (1) Unless you get better suggestions here and have compelling reason for not doing so,
update to the latest version (10.6.4) using the Combo Updater as follows:
Disconnect all your iPods and other AV peripherals and then restart your Mac.
Then use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Now download and install the Mac OS X v10.6.4 Update (Combo):
      http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048
Immediately after the restart that completes the update, repair permisssions again.
Then test whether your problem persists.
    (2) If you still have problems, reinstall iTunes 10. Use Software > Update... or this weblink:
      http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Repair permissions when the update is finished. Then test again.
    (3) If your problem only occurs when you have iPod connected, see if anything here helps:

  • Re-syncs after iTunes reopens

Every time I quit and reopen iTunes ATV ends up re-syncing files that were already on there. Anyone else?

Do yo only stream from the iTunes or you have files on the ATV? If only stream from the ATV the syncs will be short and sweet.

  • HT1926 iTunes reopens after I exit the program

On my laptop running Windows 7 after I quit iTunes it keeps re-opening itself. Any ideas?

This is very annoying. I have removed ALL widgets, ALL startup items, ALL scripts in iTunes, ALL plug ins (only one in root library found), reinstalled iTunes, restored and reset iPhone 3Gs, repaired permissions, and run Disk Warrior, and disabled all references to iPhones or iTunes helper apps in my Activity Monitor, disabled auto synch and autolaunch of iPhone, and STILL have immediate restart of iTunes every time I close it down AFTER docking and synching with iPHone, and only since updates of latest iTunes and iPhone software. Anyone else have this problem? It can't be good to have to hard power down to get out of iTunes endless loops!

  • Itunes reopens after quit

Hello, brand new on the forum/discussions. It is really annoying whenever I quit iTunes, it automatically opens itself again. I then wait, quit it again and then goes away. Not really demanding answers, but wanted to let the main guys know about this and to see if anyone had any suggestions.
    Thanks
    -bpsmith

The "main guys" aren't likely to see it here. I can tell you that this issue is usually caused by a third-party app or widget that is attempting to talk to iTunes. iWow is one of the usual suspects. Connected speakers can also cause it.

  • ITunes reopens after I close it

Within the past several months (at least three), every other time I attempt to close iTunes, it shuts down without problem and then immediately restarts itself without prompting. The cycle takes place three or four times before it finally actually closes.
This problem occurred with 8 and 9. I was hoping that 9 would fix the problem, but it does not. No settings on my computer or in iTunes itself have been changed. Can anyone tell me why it keeps doing this? It's VERY annoying.

  • ITunes reopens itself after closing

    Greetings,
Since version 5 I and many others whom I know cannot close iTunes. It closes then immediately re-opens itself. Even using Task Manager to close it, it simply re-opens itself again, and in the end the only way to close iTunes is to re-boot the computer.
I have sent Apple about 50 emails with regard to this problem, as have many other people I know, but none of us has ever received a reply.
I believe this is a common problem.
I have managed to ascertain that the first opening of iTunes uses the path C:\Programs\iTunes, but that all automatic re-openings thereafter carry a suffix: C:\Programs\iTunes\ -embedding.
I have disabled all my security software and the problem persists.
Please does anybody know how to resolve this problem?
    Thank you,
    nippauls

    PROBLEM RESOLVED!
Here is what I did and it has fixed the issue of iTunes continually re-opening itself after closing with reference to DCOM and embedding.
I disabled DrWatson by editing the following registry key from 1 to 0:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug = 0
I disabled DCOM by editing the following registry key from Y to N:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\OLE\EnableDCOM = N
    Then I restarted the computer.
Then, using Control Panel, I removed iTunes and restarted.
Then I went to C:\Programs and deleted EVERY folder relating to iTunes and iPod. If a folder refuses to be deleted, open Task Manager and terminate the relevant iPod process then it will be possible to delete the folder.
I then cleared my Prefetch folder, temp folder, and then recycle bin.
I restarted the computer, and re-installed iTunes.
    PROBLEM RESOLVED
Hope this helps other users with similar problems.

  • ITunes Won't Stop Reopening

Since installing iTunes 7.7, my iTunes restarts about a minute after closing. I have now been trying to shut the program for an hour to no avail.
The only thing I thought might be causing this is the Last FM application. However, even when the application is exited before closing iTunes, iTunes still reopens.
According to Last FM, all their software is up-to-date and there have been no posts about this issue on their forum since iTunes 7.7 became available.
It's deeply annoying to have to reboot my computer every time I quit iTunes, not to mention dangerous: I've 12,000 tracks in iTunes and therefore the save procedure takes about the same time as it does for my machine to power down, thus risking the corruption of the library.
    Any ideas?

I have been experiencing the same problem on my iMac. I don't have Last FM - this is a used computer but it has been re-imaged and contains only the OS, iLife, and FirstClass (an email and web info program for schools). I didn't have the problem before upgrading to 7.7.1. (I've also had trouble with it not playing my music, but I may have gotten that fixed. I'm not sure when I will believe it is fixed, since it had been "fixed" previously and within days it stopped working again.) The only thing I can think of to help you is to tell you that if you have any iTunes related widgets, they will make iTunes reopen. I HAD some, have deleted them and emptied my trash but am still having the problem, so I think there's more to it. Good luck and let me know if you find a solution.

  • Why does iTunes keep cutting all my songs?

I'm getting sick of this problem. I've got about 15 gigabytes of music. About 700 songs or so have been purchased from iTunes, the rest are from CDs I've scanned in. With the purchased songs, it feels like every third song was an incomplete download! It'll show as the full length, but when I'm listening to it on my iPod Touch 5th gen or on my laptop, the song cuts off. I tried talking to Apple support about it and I went through a million and one different steps to redownload my music library, but it just made the problem worse. Before it was maybe one in every six songs, now it feels like one in every three. It's extremely frustrating to be listening to a favorite song and it gets cut off a minute or two in.
It wouldn't be so bad if each song had a redownload button next to it, so I could just click on the problem songs and redo it. But having to go through a million emails and menus and options and settings just to have the problem still be there... I never had this problem when I got my music from Amazon.

This can be caused by other software conflicting with itunes. Such as, Sony Vaio users are reporting this issue in droves....other causes can be security software like Norton, Uniblue Speed Up My PC, Zune....
Maybe post some more details, and we can help.
One quick thing to try is, move your itunes library.itl file out of the msuic folder and put it in a new folder named test.
Press *and hold* the shift key while starting itunes. Browse to the ITL file in the test folder when prompted.
Close itunes, reopen, and see if your library is OK - it should keep using the ITL file in the test folder.
If it is OK, then I'm 100% sure some other software is doing this.
And you just faked it out by creating the test folder it didn't know about.

  • Why can't I drag and drop music from a folder on my PC into my iTunes window?

Why can't I drag and drop music from a folder on my PC into my iTunes window?
I have not found any article that has answered this question. They have come up with things like open the side bar and it will work, or you are using wrong format of music. Now this all happened when I upgraded to iTunes 10 and has not worked since and it worked fine before. Music format is correct, I have even gone as far as copying a file already in iTunes and trying to add it again. As soon as the files enters the frame of iTunes the music files icon the pointer is carrying turns into a circle with a slash through it.
ITunes Ver. is 11.1.5.5  Windows Ver. is Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center
Files I have tried adding are standard MP3, 256 kbps purchased AAC Audio file, MP3 converted by iTunes into a 256 or 320 kbps AAC Audio file. None can be draged and droped but all can added by going to File/Add File to Library...  or File/Add Folder to Library...
Add items from your computer to your iTunes library
    Do either of the following:
    1. Drag a file or folder from the desktop to the iTunes window. If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.
    2. In iTunes, choose File > Add to Library, locate a file or folder, and click Open.
I can add files and folders by doing number 2 above but can not doing number 1
I have gone as far as uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling per apple procedures below.
    Steps
    1. Remove iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended effects.

I had this problem on Windows 8.1.1 and iTunes 11.2.2.3
To resolve it from within Itunes I did :  Edit, Preferences, Sharing.
I took the tick out of "Share my library on my local network"
    Click OK.
    Closed iTunes/
Reopened iTunes and I can drag and drop.
I went back into Edit, Preferences, Sharing and put the tick back and clicked OK.
    Works fine now.

  • ITunes 11 Won't Let Me Add Songs To Library

I made this a new question because the previous posts were pretty old. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4562384?start=0&tstart=0 Thats the previous with the most replies that I could find. The options they suggested were :
    1) file>add folder to library> navigated my way to the name of the folder> highlighted the one i wanted and pushed "select folder" and it brings in any song not already in the library.
    2) Have you enabled the menu bar? with the menu bar enabled you can add file or add a folder, also at the bottom left you se the + sign, click that and you have the same options.
    3) make sure ur genius is on.
    That did my job..
    4) I just selected "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library", it works! It was unselected before, and iTunes 11 keeps the old settings. If you are in the same case, don't miss this setting!
    5) solved the problem by right-clicking the songs and clicking "convert to AAC". they immediately appeared in my library. hope this helps.
    6) In store preferences, I deselected "Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases" and everything was back to normal!
    7) I had this problem as well, what helped me was to rename the MP3 file you're trying to add and just try re-adding again. Hopefully it works.
    8) Mine seems to work once and awhile randomly. If you look hard enough you can see the import crash. White box flashes up and goes away.
Sometimes clearing itunes cash/restarting makes it happy?
9)Problem Solved - If using Windows 7 and for instance you want to add folder to itunes you must first transfer the music you want to upload to itunes in the Music Folder - Noted as "Public Music Folder" - This applies to either music on your system itself or from an External Hard Drive - There is no other option thanks to the annoying Windows 7 Operating System - I transferred a huge file and then added it the usual way onto itunes and it worked.
    10) Open iTunes.   Open Windows Explorer and locate the folder where your music resides.   Drag the folder of music into the iTunes window area where the albums are listed.   I just dragged it around in the iTunes window until the red circle with a slash turned into "+Copy".   Let go of the mouse.   The music is playing as I type!   Closed iTunes, reopened, it is still there!
So, now that thats out of the way, I went ot other sites and dont think any other options were given but if they were i tried them. Ive tried all of these things in different combinations too. Unlike some other people though, the songs never showed up in recently added and they wouldnt play when I clicked play using itunes. I've transfered music before for my parents from windows media player to Itunes when they got ipods and from one computers itunes to another. Can't figure out why I can't get this to work from this windows media player to new itunes. Its Not all the music though, only select songs, which seem to be the same as the songs in the SAME ALBUM that did work.

OK, I got the same problem, and tried all the solutions here, none of them works.
Then I tried everything by myself, and finally, I made it!
I just selected "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library", it works!
It was unselected before, and iTunes 11 keeps the old settings.
If you are in the same case, don't miss this setting!

  • Itunes 10.6 crash sort-of fix?

i know there's a lot of people out there who have had difficulty with itunes 10.6 crashing when they try to open it. it quits immediately upon launch. after much messing about i've found a temporary solution to the problem that DOESN'T involve a bunch of downloading, uploading, re-installing etc. i know this won't solve everyone's problem. some people are reporting problems with movies etc. which i don't use on my itunes. but hopefully it will solve a number of people's problems until a new software update is issued.
first off when you go to open itunes and it crashes a window pops up saying the report has been sent to apple and you can either view the details of the report, "ok" it, or try and reopen itunes. reopen it, and if it continues to crash keep trying to reopen it. try and try and try. it might take a while but eventually (for me anyway) it finally opened and stayed open to my music with the "album cover view" sorting.
now what i've discovered is that the "album cover view" sorting itself is what is causing the crash for me and i'm guessing for a lot of people as well. for me, once i got to this point it didn't mean the issue was fixed. if i tried to scroll up and down through my albums on this page itunes would crash again. and i would have to do the whole re-open thing a billion times AGAIN.
instead of trying to do ANYTHING on this album cover view page do this instead. once you get itunes to reopen and STAY open to it guide your mouse to the top middle-right of the itunes window and change the way your albums/songs are displayed. there should be list view, album list view, album cover view (NO!), and album cover flow view (also possibly NO!). i changed mine to album list view, the second option, and i've had no trouble opening, playing, downloading, syncing, or anything else with itunes or my iphone. 100% no problems at all.
obviously this is a temporary fix and the greater problem needs to be fixed with an apple software update ASAP! but if you can live with viewing your albums and songs sorted in a less fancy way for the time being then i hope this fix works for you.
anyone have any questions or additional problems feel free to reply. i really hope this helps some people out there.

Right on, this approach worked.  I had to click another sort method multiple times while iTunes was trying to crash, but once ot took, iTunes was up and operating.  Well done!!
