ITunes 10 Will not Import CDs

I just discovered that iTunes 10 will not import audio CDs. Once you insert the CD and iTunes launches, the CD disappears from the desktop. It is not there in the finder window nor in the iTunes window. This occured on all three Macs I tried it on and occurred with about four different audio CDs.
Apple Technical Support people duplicated the problem on their Macs and have referred this to engineering. If you plan on importing audio CDs in the near future I suggest not installing iTunes 10 now.

Could you please check if your problem disappear when configuring your
iTunes so as to avoid automatic search of track names on the web:<pre> Preferences…

  • ITunes will not import mp4-files.

For some reason iTune will not import mp4-files into iTunes. The files only contain audio, no video. I know that mp4 is a format that combines the two.
The files were generated in an earlier version of iTunes, like in 2006 or something. They were imported from CD's. I can locate them just fine on my computer and they play without problem in Windows Media Player.
The problem is that when I try to import them the way that iTunes want me to import files its like they don't exist. ITunes locates the folders and sub-folders, but its like there's no content in the folders...
I've tried changing my import settings but nothing seems to help...
Have any of you encountered a similar problem, could you fix it and how?
I've contacted Apple-support but they were unable (incompetent) to assist me...
To me it seems like the only option left is to convert all the files, like 2 GB, from mp4 to mp3.
Thankful for any help I could get solving this ***** of an issue...

iTunes can handle just about any file format that works with QuickTime and will play any file purchased or downloaded from the iTunes Store. If you've got video files that end with a .mov, .m4v, or .mp4 file extension, you can import them to iTunes with ease. However, the video especially the MP4 video must meet the following specifications: it must be encoded as 540 kbit/s (minimum) MPEG-4 video (H.264) with an approximately 128 kbit/s AAC audio track or encoded as 1.5 Mbit/s (minimum) MPEG-4 video (H.264) with a minimum 128 kbit/s AAC audio track. If not, you will fail to import MP4 to iTunes.
Even if your MP4 files meet the above specifications and are added to iTunes successfully, it may still fail to sync to iOS devices. For iPhones, iPads, and video-capable iPods play videos in more specific video formats and codecs.

  • TS1363 will not import cds

cds will not import to the itunes library have reinstalled product 2x

    Aha!
    You passed the test!
I wonder if the album has been given a title you don't expect, or it has the title "Greatest Hits" and has been placed into another album by the same name (you know how so many of these bands have Greatest Hits albums!) and you didn't notice when the album was imported. (The track details did appear when you imported, didn't they? If not, everything woud have been given names such as "Track 01, 02, 03" and "Unknown Album".)
Have you looked for the album by both artist and by the album title?
So, use the Search facility in iTunes to look for the album name or some of the track names, or even the artist. Do you get any results? If you do, check the details to see if there is anything amis, such as mis-typed titles or artist names.
Typically, an extra space at the beginning of the title, or "uran Duran" instead of "Duran Duran" (no, not my taste either). If you find anything wrong, you can correct it by using File/Get Info and re-typing in the appropriate box. Note that if you need to change things for several tracks, make sure you find all the tracks that need to be re-named.
If you haven't found anything so far, try using the Search facility in Windows Explorer to find one of the tracks. If you find the track, at least you will then know where the files are located. This will depend on whether you followed the advice Limnos gave you in the post you created. If you have, then I guess you have made some sort of progress.
    Any luck?

  • ITunes will not import wav files

iTunes will not allow importation of Apple Lossless or WAV files.  It will allow AIFF files to import but won't play them.
    Any ideas will be helpful.
    Thank you: Patrick

Are you positive they didn't import, or is it just that there aren't where you expect to find them? The thing about wav files is they don't accept tags, so if you import them they will just get added under the filename.
I would just copy across the whole media folder with libraries and all, then start iTunes with the option key held down and point it at the media folder. This will just use the library in its new location and you don't have to import, etc.

  • Itunes will not import Amazon mp3s

I purchased an album of mp3s from Amazon. The files are .mp3 with no DRM. The files play perfectly in Windows Media Player on an XP and Vista PC. At first, the Amazon program copied them into iTunes and they played fine, but in the last few months these files have stopped playing in iTunes. I tried deleting them from iTunes and recopying them, but iTunes will not reimport these files.
The files are .mp3 with no DRM.
The files play in Windows Media Player on my XP and Vista Machine.
iTunes used to play these files.
iTunes now will NOT play these songs.
I have tried dragging them into the library and importing them, but nothing works.
I have reinstalled iTunes on both computers.
Any ideas on why these files won't work other than the conspiracy that Apple will not play mp3s purchased from Amazon?

I now have a second album that iTunes has removed from the library. Again, these mp3s are DRM-free Amazon mp3s that play on any other system and software program except iTunes.
I can burn these mp3s to a CD and then reimport into iTunes, but that is ridiculous. iTunes should allow users to import mp3s from any legal source. Or, if they are going to refuse to play mp3s from sources other than iTunes, they should be honest about that fact.
Why will iTunes no longer play mp3s from Amazon?

  • ITunes will not import some .mp4 content, metadata problem?

I have been importing movies and TV shows for years into iTunes so that my disabled son can watch them on his AppleTV but lately I have been having a problem getting some to go into iTunes.  This batch is part of season 9 and 10 of Smallville.  I imported about half of the two seasons no problem but the other half will not import.  I have ripped all my movies and TV episodes off of disks that I own using Handbreak and WinX DVD Ripper for Mac and it has worked just fine for over 1050 movies and 6200 TV episodes and I was able to import all of season 9 and 10 of Smallville into my laptop's iTunes no problem but on my son's iMac no luck.  Both computers are running Mac OS 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.6.1(7) and all content is on two 3TB external hard drives.  That is two external drives for the laptop and two for the iMac.  After burning, content on one external drive is copied to the other computer's external drive and imported to iTunes on that computer. This way I have a backup copy of all my iTunes video content and two completely independent iTunes and AppleTV's.  But on my son's computer 16 episodes will not go in.  I "command O" like normal but no import bar is noted and no content can be found.  I believe that this problem is due to metadata content.  I am also have a little trouble getting some TV content to switch from Music or Movie Media Kind to TV Media Kind and I know that this is a metadata problem.  Also some of the episodes have been in iTunes before either from the Apple Store or ripped and then deleted for one reason or the other.  I therefore believe that there is a file in iTunes that is telling the program that the episodes I now want to import are already in iTunes and therefore should not go in twice.  I have tried changing the episode names and importing, no luck and I even edited an episode using MPEG Streamclip, removing some content, and then resaving it under another name, no luck either.  Any ideas would be helpful.  I know the Media Kind problem has been address before but now I cannot find it so a link to that discussion would also be helpful.  Thank you for any help.

I have the same issue here. My daughter has an iPod Touch4 and I have been importing mp4's with no problems up until the last iTunes update. Now I get nothing. No message, not activity, nothing. Either this is a new bug in iTunes or they have now eliminated the import ability.
I am sick and tired of apple and their hand-holding, big-brother coddling. My daughters iPod is the last Apple product we have and now I think it's time to totally part ways with Apple and go all in with Android. We have already converted all our phones from Apple to Android. The Samsung Galaxy Player looks like a great replacement to the iPod.

  • ITunes will not import last song of any CD

Hi, hoping someone can help me out with this problem. I've been in the long process of importing all of my CD's on to my new iPod and was having no prblems until recently. From importing CD's perfectly, iTunes now stops from importing the very last song of every CD that I put in. It works right up until the last second of the last song then freezes, forcing me to ctrl/alt/del iTunes. All of the other songs go into the library. And, as an added bonus, iTunes does't play any songs on my computer - not as in I can't hear them, but as in the timer remains at 0.00 when I press play.
Can this problem be fixed at all? Any help would be very gratefully appreciated!

  • ITunes 10.1.54 will not import CDs

I have been trying to import CDs since this most recent update and I am presented with the message "iTunes is not working properly". Following this the program shuts down, meaning I can't import any new CDs. I'd like to say I was surprised but I am not. Has anyone else experienced this/know of any fixes?

You need to go here and downlaod iTunes and reinstall it. No need to uninstall first.
    -> http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Version 10.1.54 was replaced by 10.1.56.
It is a different build number (56 vs. 54) but the same version so software update will not find it.

  • ITunes will not import .WAV files encoded by iTunes...

I just recently switched from a macbook pro running leopard to an imac with snow leopard. I needed to move my itunes to the new computer, but none of my wav files imported. On my macbook, I put the CD in and imported into iTunes directly using its own WAV encoder. All my mp3s imported fine. All the wav files play in quicktime and in preview.
I know that itunes does not recognize some wav types, but I used itunes' own encoder, so it doesn't make sense that itunes wouldn't recognize them now...I don't want to have to reimport or re-encode these with another program =(
    Thanks!

  • ITunes will not import many mp3 tracks.

    Hi,
I've just purchased a 160 gig iPod. I have been having a great deal of trouble importing my music library into iTunes - iTunes simply ignores many tracks. What's frustrating about this is that these are purchased tracks - many of them were brought from Other Music Digital (http://digital.othermusic.com/).
These tracks are 320kbps Non Variable Rate MPEG-1 Layer III (Mp3) files, with no DRM. When I attempt to import them to iTunes, I see the import progress bar, then nothing - the tracks never appear in the library, and I get no failure message of any kind.
Windows Media Player, and several other music player programs, have no problem with these tracks. Just iTunes.
Does anyone know what is going on?

I'm experiencing the same problem, and I must admit I have less patience than most. I am very frustrated with my new MacBook, and the Apple Updates seem to be about as ridiculous as my former PCs'. I have been searching for a fix for over a month now and to be honest, I'm embarrassed to admit I am considering purchasing a PC just to import new music files and to update my iPod--of which I regret purchasing now that I am having so many problems with something so simple. Furthermore, its absurd that Apple has not responded to any of my posts on this topic. I am quickly loosing faith with Apple's ability to please their customers. It seems that just a few years ago Apple had a different face called Macintosh, who was much more concerned about the functionality of their product. Not to mention that my G5 iMac seems to run more efficiently than my PowerPC intel MacBook. I am beginning to experience glitches and errors which were never a concern with my previous Macintosh platforms... Yet, most importantly I am still unable to play many of my .mp3's which were working just fine prior to my most recent update of iTunes. My lesson is learned, and in the future I will not be updating my MacBook with any of the suggested patches. Each time I update the platform it seems that I loose more functionality. Its rather upsetting and for similar reason, it is unfortunate that I will not be purchasing the newest AirBook in due to my doubt of its performance. I think the Apple tree needs to be shaken a bit, because their advertisement are become evermore deceiving with their idealizations of a system more efficient than their PC counterpart. And by no means do I intend my comment to make sauce of Apple, I am a devote Macintosh user; however, their inablity to formulate a solution has given me a headache and I don't see how that is any different than my former PC migraines. Thnks. please respond if their is a solution...

  • ITunes will not import all songs!

On every CD that I've tried to import songs from, iTunes won't import every song. It just freezes up. I know that it isn't the CD drive because all of the songs were ripped into Windows Media Player. I have even tried to import just one song, but still the same problem. Some songs will be in the Library before the freeze, but will disappear after it. On a few CDs, only half of the tracks were imported. Please help me!

First look at the CD and see if its protected.
Secondly goto the PC makers site (If the CD Burner came witht he PC when you bought it) and look for updates for your model, like Firmware updates for the CD ROM and BIOs/chipset updates for the system.

  • My itunes will not import songs from a cd. When i put the cd in usually itunes recognizes it and starts importing them but now it doesn't do anything. How can i get it to import cds again?!

    please help

See if it will import a CD using Windows Media Player.
That will tell us if it is a system problem with the whole PC, or just a problem with itunes.

I have really never tried to import any music before. I had an MP3 ripper from another MP3 player that I used to create MP3s and download them to the MP3 player.
In an effort to fix this issue, I bought a new CD/DVD-rom drive (Sony DRU-820A) and installed it. I have gotten the latest drivers for it also, but no success.

  • ITunes will, not Import some songs, some it will

I have all of my music on an external drive saved as mp3s. aac, etc.
I am trying to create a new library for my iPod Classic. When I drag and drop songs into iTunes so it will import them into the new library, it will import some and totally ignore others. I can't figure out what the difference is between the ones it "likes" and the ones it "doesn't like".
    Any ideas?

On a somewhat related note.... I had always added songs to my iTunes in Tiger via either Import from CD, or "Add to Library" from an external drive. But with Leopard, "Add to Library" doesn't seem to do anything whatsoever.
When I got my iMac 24" (with Leopard), I migrated all my data (including all my music files) from my iMac G5 (with Tiger).. and ever since then, I can still "Import" from a music CD, but from other sources, "Add to Library" doesn't do anything. What I end up doing is dragging the music files from the Finder and dropping them into my Music list in the iTunes application window.
I keep my iTunes versions current, so the different behavior appears to be due to the different OS.
It's a curious thing. I wonder if anyone else has seen this and can explain it? Thanks..
