ITunes 11.0.2 (Win 7 Pro, 64-bit) previously purchased downloads (cloud) fail (repeat 6x)

Summary: Under a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) with all patches applied, verified malware free (Sophos rootkit and virus detection tools and a Microsoft Security scan) iTunes fails to download previous purchases and then store/commit them on the computer.
Detailed Description: What I am presented with is a list of songs that are not on my PC but I can re-download. I click the litle cloud icon and the download begins. But after the file downloads it won't process/transfer into my library and cycles through 5 more attempts. (The little grey Harvey ball icon starts out empty, slowly fills in a clockwise pattern, and when 100% grey (full) it repeats.
Eventually iTunes gives a non-descriptive failure message. I'm stuck.
What I've tried to do:
I've tried several things, including:
- Reinstalling iTunes (with reboots inbetween)
- Turning off then on the iTunes "Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases"
- Reviewing permissions of iTunes directory (per other Apple KB articles and forum advice)
- Reviewing iTunes and supporting file folders/directories for missing things like the 'SC info' directory.
- Exiting iTunes, killing iTunes processes and iTunes Helper, renaming the iTunes folder "OLD-iTunes" and restarting iTunes to create new iTunes subfolders and again testing the downloads from the cloud -- which fail. I then restore my old iTunes directory, exit iTunes (and kill processes) and start iTunes again.
- Checking IE 10 security settings (even though I'm not using IE 10 as my browser, there are apparently ActiveX and other security setting implications that affect the overall system. Learned that when initially trying to install iTunes in the first place.)
- Deauthorizing / reauthorizing the machine
- Calling Apple Support who couldn't figure it out.
Any ideas that aren't inane or ones already tried above?
Thanks so much!

Nothing I tried helped. Apple Support couldn't figure it out.
I suspect it had to do with a security patch that MS recently issued then promptly recalled due to failures it caused on many users' systems. I am merely speculating, based on some of the odd errors I saw and the timing of the events.
Alongside the iTunes issue, there were other system errors and security problems I had noticed; namely with Java apps and the built-in security controls of the system. (Again, assuming I was malware-free since I did deep testing with 2 Microsoft tools and some Sophos tools which yielded clean results.)
Nevertheless, I did not solve my problem with technical intelligence. Instead, I wiped the machine and did a fresh install of Windows 7 and then copied my files back into place. (I did NOT do a system restore as to avoid reintroducing a problem from a known bad installation.)
That was only a 5 or 6 hour committmenet but "solved" my problem.

Jeff,
after trying to find, and use screen shot, i tried to access reader
downloader... instead, found an offline version of reader. after
installation started getting false reports that appeared as avg pop-ups.
Within task manager, was able to detect virus / worm running 6 - 8
services. immediately disconnected my 'net connection. closed all active
services being run by rogue process. determined it was using two files
named "lastalive0.dat" and"lastalive1.dat" to determine it's own status...
upon stopping it's services it controlled, it would soft re-boot to
resurrect another hijack attempt. tried workaround using secondary boot
(win 7) to no avail. after two days, i transferred personal data to
removable media and am in process of installing debian version of linux.
i thank you for reply and apologize for my tardy response, it was my first

• Cannot Install iTunes 9 in Windows XP Pro 64-bit

Okay, here's the situation:
I was an early adopter of Vista, in its 32-bit form. Ran fine, lasted a long time. Needed more memory, so installed Vista 64-bit a few months back as part of an upgrade to a larger boot disc.
Initially, the version (whatever it was) of iTunes installed and worked okay, but after an upgrade of Windows and iTunes (done at the same time) killed the whole thing. It installed correctly, but when I ran iTunes, it would hang.
I know about relatively short hangs while trying to connect to the iTunes store, as well as the potentially hours-long hang during the 'gapless playback' process, but these hangs were for more than 12 hours in some cases, and required that I manually end the program.
About a week ago, I decided to go back to XP Professional because several updates had created an unusable environment for iTunes, even with deleting everything Apple and starting over multiple times.
With a clean Windows XP Professional 64-bit install, I thought I might have a chance. Turns out, I was wrong.
I downloaded the latest iTunes 64-bit package, only to be told this is for Windows Vista 64-bit only. Fine. I downloaded the latest iTunes 32-bit package and was greeted with a message that suggested I download the 64-bit version. Are we sure Microsoft didn't buy Apple somewhere along the line? This is not the sort of nonsense I have seen in about 15 years experience with Apple products.
Next I looked for any tricks or tips that might help me do what I wanted. I learned Orca is more than a Sea World attraction, and many other new things. At the end of the day, I cannot find any way to successfully install iTunes 32-bit or 64-bit into Windows XP Professional 64-bit.
Is there anyone that has successfully installed the latest iTunes (32- or 64-bit versions) into XP Pro 64-bit without hacking, cracking or smacking their system? Anyone? If so, I would love to hear how it's done.
It's painfully obvious that Apple never tested this O/S or they might have fixed the problem before releasing iTunes 9.
Although my iPhone contract ended about two months ago, I'm not rushing out to get a new phone until this problem is resolved. Currently it is essentially a paperweight as I have no access to some application updates that will only complete when it is tethered.

Follow the directions here. But the problem is that the I-tunes installer calls for the wrong file name so… if you rename the file named “AppleMobileDevice64.msi” to “AppleMobileDevice.msi” it should install. When it says “iPod service failed to start…” run this patch then click “retry” it’ll work fine. Merry Christmas from Lokie!
P.S. Please repost the patch thanks

• I am trying to download previously purchased music from iTunes, it show "purchased" in iTunes Store but does not show up under previous purchase tab

There are several albums that I've previously purchased that somehow were deleted from my computer & iPad. When I go to download available purchases on PC it say that all available punches have been downloaded. When I check iTunes Store it show as "purchased". When I try to check & download from iCloud via either iPad or PC these items do not show up under items purchased.
I can't even re-purchase the item, which I've tried since it shows as purchased in iTunes Store. This is very troublesome because there is no way for me to access these previous purchases. I have been using iTunes & various Apple products with the iTunes Store for several years & there is a lot of money invested in these previous purchases, that there is no way for me to access. As mentioned, I'd even be willing to re-purchase some of these items (though this should be unnecessary). But, the iTunes Store won't let me, because the items show up as purchased in store, but not on any of my devices!!!
Help!

Hey innerev2003,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If, while searching through your past purchases, items are unavailable to download and show a "Purchased" button, they are still on your computer. It may be best to search your iTunes library by clicking Music, then use the search bar at the top right.
If you are completely sure the items are no longer in your library, try signing out of the iTunes Store, and then back in.

• ITunes won't allow me to access my previous purchases to download an older album.

iTunes originally had me download half an album twice and I didn't know that before I bought it. So they have finally fixed it and I want to get the fixed version by redownloading the album from my previous purchases. When I go to click on the purchases link in the iTunes store, it just brings up a white page with nothing on it. Clearly this is a huge issue. If there are anyways to trouble shoot please let me know.

Hello capital2,
Have you or are you able to restore the iPod via iTunes? If so, that would probably be your next step. If you are unable to restore it on your Mac, try it on another machine if at all possible.

• TS1389 Itunes on W7 - I´m unable to authorise my purchases download, and the SC itunes file wouldn´t be deleted not even in safe mode.

I´m unable to authorise my purchases download from itunes store, and the SC itunes file wouldn´t be deleted (prompts not allowed) , even in safe mode. Does anyone experienced the same error? Any solution other than posted? Thanks.

Just in case we're dealing with file/disk damage here, try running a disk check over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you delete the SCInfo folder now?

• Itunes installed on Windows xp Pro 64 bit

I just built a new computer using an AMD 64x2 processor. The operating system is Windows XP Pro 64. I used Itunes on my old 32 bit xp, but now I can't get Itunes installed on the 64. Is there a different driver I need to install and if so where can I get it.

Here's a tip from another user that might work; I can't vouch for it myself:
If you've got Vista x64, you need to open a Command Prompt box and run the command there, changing directories first:
cd c:\windows\SysWOW64
regsvr32 /u vbscript.dll
You'll also need to configure a symlink to help iTunes find Quicktime:
mkdir "c:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime"
mklink /d "c:\Program Files\QuickTime" "c:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime"
After installation, you should probably close the Big Fat VBScript Security Hole:
regsvr32 /u vbscript.dll
Hope that helps.

• ITunes won't install - Win 7 64 bit

I am having similar problems with installations that others have posted. After a 3/30/10 update, ITunes no longer works, I cannot install version 9.1 (It locks the PC up during a "registering the (x) Server"
Owning an IPhone and an upcomming IPad, this is a big issue. Please help. I have already uninstalled everything 2 times per the support advice.

Similar problem here EXCEPT I think I had the issue BEFORE upgrading to 9.1.
I started iTunes on *Wednesday 31 Mar 2010* and it locked the PC completely (unfortunately I don't know what version but I have a feeling it was 9.0.3). Thinking it was an iTunes issue I power cycled the PC, uninstalled everything Apple including manually deleting files from all folders, temp folder, user profiles, registry etc. Downloaded and installed 64-Bit iTunes and it locked the PC at *'Registering the Automation Server'*. I have tried many different things e.g. disable anti-virus, spyware etc, but same issue.
I then installed ver 9.0 of iTunes. This installed without issue. However when I ran iTunes the application opened and after a second or two the whole PC locked.
At this point I am now uncertain whether it is an iTunes issue OR a Windows issue, and I'm really starting to think it is a combination of the two!

• Itunes has stopped working (Win 7 64 bit)

I keep getting this when I try to sync my iPad 2 and my iPhone 4. It gets all the way through the sync to photos and then I get this issue:
iTunes has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes.
I have run all updates I can think of and rebooted several times.
I have checked QuickTime and all seems fine with it.
I have unchecked the photos and doesn't seem to make a difference.
Ideas???

• HT4915 Why do I have to pay for iTunes Match subscription to delete songs I've previously purchased from iCloud?

From the support article, it seems that I have to pay for an iTunes Match subscription in order to permanently delete songs from iCloud. Is there a way to delete songs from iCloud without having iTunes Match?

You don't have to sign up to iTunes Match to play your iTunes music purchases through the iPad's Music app (if you've synced or downloaded them to the app). iTunes Match allows you to store your own music collection (e.g. copied from CDs, bought from other sites) in the cloud as well as the music that you've purchased from iTunes
From http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/ :
With iTunes in the Cloud, the music you buy from the iTunes Store automatically appears on all your devices.1 And for music you haven’t purchased from iTunes, iTunes Match is the perfect solution. iTunes Match is built right into iTunes on your computer and the Music app on your iOS devices.2 It lets you store your entire collection in iCloud, even music you’ve imported from CDs or purchased somewhere other than iTunes. When it’s in iCloud, it’s available on all your devices. So you can enjoy all your music anywhere, anytime — on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, PC, or Apple TV.

• I have changed my computer three times and I'm having trouble playing previously purchased/downloaded songs. itunes is prompting me for my user id and password everytime I click on those songs I had puchased. I had also changed my user id

I appreciate any help or assistance you can share with me. thank you very much.

Because too much time has passed I can't edit this into the prior comment, but here is the info regarding reverting to iTunes 11.0.2 (assuming you do have a time machine backup) from https://discussions.apple.com/message/22057703#22057703

Repairing permissions doesn't fix it.
I reverted to the previous version, 11.0.2.
1. Quit the new crash-prone iTunes.
2. Delete the app.
3. Restore v. 11.0.2 with Time Machine.
4. In your iTunes folder look for a folder called "Previous iTunes Libraries", find the latest one.
5. In the iTunes folder itself you'll see "iTunes Library.itl", delete it (or compress it and save a copy for later just in case.
6. Copy the newest .itl file in Previous iTunes Libraries to the iTunes folder and rename it "iTunes Library.itl".
7. Launch the older version of iTunes.
My crashing has seemed to have ceased with a revert to an older version. I noticed today that the newer crashing iTunes had been launched for hours but not playing anything, when I played internet radio it crashed within 5mins, fed up I reverted to an older version.
Btw, a simpler way to do this is to revert to older iTunes app, then hold Option when it launches and choose an older library.

• Authorizing of previously purchased/downloaded items from iTunes

Hi.....
I am having problems trying to authorise my new computer to play videos/tracks that I purchased and downloaded some time ago (still in my library) under an old email address/Apple ID which is no longer available to me. It's been that long, I can't even remember the password I used. Can anyone assist with this problem.

Right click on the tracks/videos and hit Get Info. In there on the summary tab you will see the user name that these were purchased under.
Try to login to iTunes using that name and you will see a forgot password link. There you can reset the password BUT you have to have access to the email account that the items were purchased with.
