ITunes 11.0.4 does not recognize iPhone content

Since updating to version 11.0.4 iTunes no longer recognises the content of the iphone memory any longer.
Whereas it used to show correctly how many GBs of music, photos etc. I had on my phone it now only shows "Others".
At least I can still see how much of the memory is used and how much is still free. But compared to before this is a definite step backwards and certainly a bug of the new iTunes update.
Do we have to wait for Apple to issue a new update, or is there something I can do?
BTW, my phone is not jailbroken.

This isn't a 11.0.4-exclusive problem; it just happens sometimes. I don't remember how I resolved it when I got the problem once, but try all the usuals—restarting your device, restarting your computer, maybe even a restore.

  • ITunes 10.5 (XP) does not recognize iPhone 4S when I attach it via cable. ...

I get the message, "USB Device Not Recognized ... One of the USB devices has malfunctioned [yadda yadda]." in the Windows notification area in the lower right of the screen.
I have been to this page: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/#section_2 .
Two things seem to work to get my computer to re-recognize the iPhone:
    1) Restart the computer.
    2) Open iTunes, which doesn't recognize the phone since Windows doesn't recognize the phone. Keeping iTunes open and the iPhone attached via the cable, I restart the iPhone. iTunes then detects the phone.
However, the minute I close iTunes (and then reopen it) or disconnect the phone (and then reconnect the phone), I have the same problem all over again.

Having exactly the same problem with my new 4S and iOS5.  In fact, I could have written your original post, my experience was identical.  I am using Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) however.
I can also add more data:  When I get the "USB Device Not Recognized" message in the system tray, I can often unplug the cable and plug it into a different USB port on the same computer and it will be recognized.  However, unplugging and replugging to the new port will often put IT INTO THE SAME STATE as the previous port, "USB Device Not Recognized".  Even though it just worked on that port.
During the short period that I had iOS5 on the 3GS, it did not exhibit this behavior.  I cannot test this further, having sold the 3GS already.  But it's happening every day with my 4S.
I'm pretty sure we're not the only ones.

  • After installingwindow 8.1 preview, itune does not recognize iphone

After IO update and and installing window 8.1 preview, Itune does not recognize iphone.
I went to devise manager and it tells me everything is working properly, but can not read the iphone on itune.
    Please help with this problem
    Thanks

You shouldn't be running the "preview" anymore. Microsoft released the full 8.1 update last Friday (10/18).
The "preview" is a beta and should NOT be relied on for any further use. Microsoft explained this in their "preview" downloads.

my itunes 9.2 (mac osx 10.4.11) does not recognize iphone 4s

Since you're running iTunes 9.2, your Mac has a G4 or better CPU. You need to purchase and install Mac OS X 10.5(G4 or G5) or Mac OS X 10.6(Intel) from a DVD. Mac OS X 10.6 DVDs are free for paid MobileMe members.

  • I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS. Tried synching my phone through iTunes (11.0.1 I think... on a 2009 Macbook Pro). Now when I connect to iTunes, it says it does not recognise the content on my phone. Is this because my phone (and laptop) are too old?

I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS. Tried synching my phone through iTunes (11.0.1 I think... on a 2009 Macbook Pro). Now when I connect to iTunes, it says it does not recognise the content on my phone. Is this because my phone (and laptop) are too old?
Also, when I tried to Restore the settings, an Error Message pops up that says " The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. The requested resource was not found.
I'm trying to free up space on my phone by removing [literally] thousands of old photos which were originally synched to the phone, because I had forgotten to uncheck the photos button when I synched it ages ago.
I have also tried synching it on my 24" iMac (running OSX Snow Leopard). But again, when I try restoring the phone through itunes, it says the file is corrupted. It sggests unplugging the device, and then plugging it in again. I have done this numerous times with no success.
I'm guessing it must be because my phone (and versions of iTunes, and OSX) are all too old.
    Please can anybody help.
    Cheers,
    Dan_nz.

Have you updated iTunes with the absolute latest software?  If you have not in a long time, your iPad won't be recognized.

Try starting iTunes with the shift key held down.  If it starts it is probably some old plugin presenting problems.

Start with the article below to get your iPhone to be recognized in iTunes again. Then you will probably need to restore it to get it back up and running.

  • LR 4 on OSX 10.8 does not recognize iPhone

No problem with iTunes, same problem with iPhoto. Help anyone?

Just saw your reply. I am not sure what you are suggesting.
I have the following in my Mac Harddrive/Library/Image Capture/Devices folder:
    Canon IJScanner2
    Canon IJScanner4
    EPSON Scanner
    HP M1130_M1210 Scanner
However, the icon for the last mentioned is different. It does not have the Image Capture icon. It simply has the generic application icon (two white papers with an "A" formed out of a ruler, a pencil and a brush). I doubt that the icon makes a difference, but it is what I observe.
The permissions for the first three and the last are identical.
The file sizes for all the files are in the same size range (except for EPSON, which is much bigger).
I should reiterate that I am using the Lion version drivers on Mavericks (just upgraded from Mountain Lion yesterday). Those are the newest drivers for this MFP.

  • ITunes 11.1.4 will not recognize iPhone, iPad after Dell BIOS update

I suspect the problems everyone is having are related to the BIOS.  I am running a Dell XPS i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz 3.4 GHz with 24 GB RAM, 64 bit OS x64 based processor.  OS is Windows 8.1
I just updated my BIOS as suggested by Dell.  Now iTunes 11.1.4 will not recognize my iPhone or iPad.
My computer accesses the iPhone or iPad, but iTunes does not recognize them.
This was not a problem prior to updating BIOS.
Is there a fix or patch?
I have to sync my devices for work.
Please no baby-steps replies.  Have tried everything including removing devices from device manager and reconnecting to force driver update and try to force iTunes recognition.  None of that works.
    Thanks!

Here is the fix from Waldo-E3 elsewhere in this forum.
Like I said, no baby steps answers please!
    Kudos to Waldo-E3!
      RESOLVED...
Found these steps posted elsewhere by another and the solution worked for me...
    1. Go to Windows 8.1 Control Panel.
    2. Go to Hardware and Sound; Devices and Printers; Unspecified (look for Apple Mobile Device USB Driver)
    3. Right-click, then select properties on the menu list.
    4. Select the "Hardware" tab at the top  When the properties dialog box opens, once more select properties on the lower right hand button.
    5. Under the "Driver" tab menu, the update driver button will be grey and unselectable here. So you need to select and click "Change Settings" button located near the lower left corner.
    6. Now you can click the "Driver" tab menu near the top, so you can see the "Update Driver" button.
    7. Select "Update Driver".
    8. Select and click "Browse my computer for driver software".
    9. For Windows 8.1 64 bit, it should be located in the folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
    10. Click Next, and let the driver re-install.
    11. iTunes  11.1.4.62 should open automatically if your iphone is connected already
