ITunes 11.0.4 Fails to burn audio CD: unknown error (-50)

Everytime I try to burn a playlist to a blank CD-R in iTunes 11.0.4; it starts to burn the disk, but immediately fails and gives me an unknown error (-50). I'm running OS X 10.6.8 on a MBP model 8,2.

Same here. No option under the gear wheel. I have 12.1.
Nick, In the screenshot posted above in 2013, Jen is looking at the playlist in her Device, not in her iTunes library, so of course there is no burn option.  Is that what you are seeing too?
In iTunes, if you are in a playlist in your iTunes library (not a playlist folder, and not your overall Music library) the Burn option can be access 3 ways:  from the gear icon, from the File menu, and from the contextual menu obtained by right-clicking the playlist name.

  • Failed to save library - an Unknown Error Occurred

I have iTunes 10.7.0.24 running on a Windows 7 64bit (Dual 3.07Ghz 2GB RAM) VM. My library has 18,376 songs, 636 movies, 2,328 TV Shows, and 194 apps. iTunes is providing content to 3 Apple TV's, 3 iPhones, 1 iPad, and 1 iPod.  Occasionally(several times a year), when adding or deleting content I see the message 'Failed to Save Library - an unknown error has occurred'.  When this happens the iTunes process is generally using around 400-500MB of memory. The system always has at least 1GB of available memory (above that being used by the system and iTunes). The computer does nothing else except run iTunes.  If I restart iTunes memory consumption drops to around 120MB. So far I have not found any errors (i.e. files I added are there and files I deleted are gone).. I currently have 933GB of free space on the disk storing the files and library. There are no backup processes running on the PC (Backups are timed to occur at night when the system is idle and are processed by a server that hosts the iTunes Media disk). I am using Microsoft Security Essentials on the PC. The network connection between the iTunes PC and Server hosting the media disk is 10GB (sic).
Does anyone else see this error or know what could be causing it?  My current thinking is the problem is updating the library XML file (currently just over 33MB).

Use the Rebuild command. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Can somebody help me in finding a solution or an explanation to the problem I am currently experiencing as well as others wherein we cannot connect to the iTunes store (iTunes could not connect to the store. An unknown error occurred (0x80096004))?

Can somebody help me in finding a solution or an explanation to the problem I am currently experiencing as well as others wherein we cannot connect to the iTunes store. An error message appears and either says "iTunes could not connect to the store. An unknown error occurred (0x80096004). Make sure your network connection is active and try again" or "iTunes could not connect to the store.Make sure your network connection is active and try again." Despite the fact that my network connection is working quite fine, this problem still persists. I can say that my connection is fine because I can surf the internet and furthermore, I used to connect to the iTunes store just before this incident happened which started from April 17, 2014 and persists until today. I tried to solve the problem by following the troubleshoot procedures given in the support section of this site but it really did not solve the problem. I believe that others are experiencing this situation as well very similar to mine when it comes to the time of occurrence as I have read in the discussions in this site. Even though we have different network connections, operating systems and other specifications, we still experience the same problem, so is there really a problem with our computers or is it with the iTunes? And by the way, my computer works under Windows XP. Thanks a lot. God bless.

    Try this...
Triple click anywhere in the line below to select it and press Ctrl+C to copy it.
    cmd /k netsh winsock reset
Press the WinLogoKey+R to open the run dialog, then Ctrl+V to paste, then press enter/return.
You should get something similar to this:
Reboot the computer and the problem should be resolved.
If it doesn't work then perhaps a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes will fix things. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for details.

  • ITunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE80007F)

Recieved this error while syncing the IPod classic, however, the IPhone was not connected to the computer, was no where near the computer.
In addition, I had earlier in the day the following error message as well: ITunes could not connect to the IPone "Merci's IPone" because an invalid response was received from the device."  In this situation, again the IPod classic was syncying music, and the phone was not even in the house.
The day previously, I had the following error as well: ITunes could not connect to the IPone because of unknown error occurred (0XE80002D).
When I called Apple Support, the first person could not find a response or answer to fix or give a reason why this is happening, since he said the last error is normally resulting from when the cable has a connection problem; well the IPhone was never connected to the computer--the IPod Classic was during these incidents.  When a senior advisor came on line, he wanted me to reboot my computer, but I was still in the middle of the IPod Sync of music so that could not happen. Which his answer was, well then call back and talk with a apple support person when it completes--my thought was if the first person couldn't figure it out and required a senior advisor, what is going to happen when I call back--I repeat myself and wait and repeat myself again to another senior advisor and then do some archaic steps to discover they don't know what is wrong?  I am waiting on a few other problems they haven't figured out yet. I am a new Apple user and have had nothing but problems with Apple IPhone, IPad and guess IPod Classic all which I purchased with high recommendations that Apple is better than windows products and Android products.  I am wondering what the **** I got myself into?
Can anyone help me? It is getting frustrating that Apple can not seem to help with any of the situations I seem to be having!
    Thanks in advance.

I have had this same issue with my iPhone 4 since iOS 5 was released.  None of the updates has fixed it yet. I'm using Windows 7 Pro (64 bit), and iTunes 10.5.3   I am not encrypting my backups.  I do have my phone set to passcode lock after 1 hour.  When I have enabled WiFi sync in iTunes, I get the error message described in this thread at least once every day.  In the morning, when I first open iTunes, I will have to click this window sometimes 8 to 10 times to get it to finally dismiss and begin the sync process.
It's apparent that iTunes is hung up whenever this message is present.  It's not downloading podcasts during the night, or performing the WiFi sync while my phone is charging in the other room.  Nothing works until I sit in front of iTunes and click off the error message.  If I am required to do that in order to get the phone to update, I should just plug it in and disable the WiFi sync hassles until/if it ever gets fixed.

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere but I don't have the nerves to read through thousands of "I've got the same problem too" replies. I do not care whether anyone has the same problem. So if you don't have any solution do not post! I'm not being rude, I'd just keep this discussion as accessible for other readers as possible. Besides, shouting "me too" doesn't really help anyone. Thank you.
Here's my problem, I sync my iPhone via iTunes 10.5.2, which works fine but after a while it prompts with an error message "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an unknown error occurred (OxE8000001)". This error message will not disappear and I have to force shut-down iTunes. It works OK for a while after re-start but the error comes back after a while. It is a very annoying little problem because I was waiting for WIFI syncing for so long and now it doesn't work properly
Any ideas how to remedy this?
