ITunes 11.0.4 on XP new install not responding, CPU 100%

Just downloaded and installed iTunes 11.0.4 on Windows XP SP3, launching it from the install dialog final step.  Opened the File menu.  iTunes.exe went to 100% CPU and is not responding.  The File menu is still on the screen, getting in the way.  Runs at 100% for hours.  The iTunes library is empty - no chance to add a single song to it.  What can it be up to?  I ran earlier versions of iTunes with little problem - what gives?  How can I determine what it is attempting to do as it apparently loops its way to nowhere?
Thanks for your help
Cheers

  • I have transfered my music to a new computer. I have a iPhone 4S 64g  and I have a lot of music. I believed i have followed all instructions to do this. I have even unistalled itunes and reinstalled. Synching to  new computer not responding well

Can anyone provide more specific info when transferring iTunes to new computer. i have completed all steps including the ones ive seen on the forums since others have had same issue. Uninstall iTunes. Reinstall iTunes. Check synch all music uncheck synch all music...When I try to sync with new computer it transfers music, some go into downloaded songs only, if i connect to old computer its better, and then there is the new cloud! I am regretting changing computers but it was time. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I just want my iPhone 4S 64g to synch correctly and completely.

It is probably best to start over. These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

I accidentally forgot my passcode and tried 6 attempts but all failed.I don't have iTunes.I turned power off.Now it is not responding.Any suggestions?

Without iTunes on a computer there is nothing that you can do. If you are locked out because you forgot the passcode your only solution is to restore the iPad using iTunes on a computer.
I don't know exactly want you mean by it is not responding - does that mean that it will not power up again?

  • New install not accessing existing library on D: drive.

My iTunes library is much larger than my entire SSD I use as a boot volume, so of course I keep it on a second internal hard drive labeled D:.
I just had my system corrupted and all backcup images not read by restore discs, so I had to wipe my C: SSD and re-install my Windows 7, 64-bit OEM from scratch.  Now, with a new install of iTunes, I can't seem to get it to recognize my existing library on my D: drive.  I've pointed it there in preferences both to the iTunes folder and the iTunes Library folder inside it on the drive.  I can open any individual item with iTunes separately and add that to my library separately, but no matter what, this thing just seems to ignore my existing content completely.  Nothing shows in my library within the program but the few nonsense songs that came with some software somewhere.
I at first thought it was finding my TV shows, but it turns out that was only on the cloud.  I don't want to depend on some cloud server for my content I've bought and paid for when I have it stored in redundant hard drives of my own.  I need this to access my content on the drive I've selected for it, including my existing content already there.

OK, I got the menu  bar open and found an article in "help" that said to drag the existing library folder into the iTunes window and that got my stuff into the software, but how can I be sure that new purchases go into the proper folder on my D: drive rather than into some C; drive location.  I have a terrabyte D: drive that is already red in Windows Explorer and still has more space left than this SSD I'm using as a C: drive had blank.

  • New Install..Higher CPU temps??

Just installed a new 80g Hard Drive.. Had to do a fresh install :-).. as it was mentioned here.. gohsting was "iffy"
    You guys were absolutely Right.
So: New Drive Fresh XP pro install (Kt3 U2 Board, XP tbrd Cpu.. no overclock anything))
Previous harddrive setup read 35 to 37 C onna PC alert pop up.. New install reads 43 to 46 onna Cpu...Case readout has only gone up maybe 1c.. WHY??
there have been NO other changes except the new WD80JBand a fresh XP install drive. Case was and is Wide open, as in NO sides.
Should I be concerned about this
    Help?

    I have the current setup to get good cooling;
2 x IBM drives with adapters in 5.25" bays, with a "nose fan" taking in air blowing it over the harddrives to keep them cool and take in air into the case.
1 x rear case fan that blows out of the case.
1 x Thermal Take Silent Viking II too cool the CPU, and modded case with holes so that the rather high ducting mod and fan (which makes contact with case side) can take in air from outside the case.
1 Topower 430W PSU with dual fans that exhaust from the case.
    This gives me the following temps;
    CPU: Idle 43C Load 49C
    Chipset: 34
    Harddrives: 29 and 28C
    Ambient temperature: 26C

  • Photoshop CS3 install - not responding at startup

    Guys,
Just got a new machine at work and I'm trying to reinstall Photoshop CS3 from disc.  Everything looks like it installs smoothly, but when I try to launch PS, it just hangs with a grey background and finallly says "not responding".  I've tried to hold down ctrl-alt-shift to get the preferences menu, but nothing ever pops up.  I also looked in AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings   but there are no files located in this dir.
I am admin on my machine so everything should've installed correctly.  It ran perfectly on my old machine which I installed from the same disc as I'm using now.
    Any ideas?
    TIA!

    Two additional ideas:
    1.  Visit the web site of the maker of the video card in the system and get their latest display driver.  EXCEPTION:  If it's an ATI GPU, get their Catalyst 11.7 release, not 12.1, which has been shown to be buggy with Photoshop CS5+.
    2.  Force a Photoshop preferences reset by pressing and holding Control - Shift - Alt immediately after cold-starting Photoshop.  If you're fast enough, and you have to get them down very quickly, it will prompt you to confirm deletion of the current preferences set, which will lead to a full return to defaults.
If you don't see an immediate "Delete preferences, are you sure?" type dialog, close it all and try again.  You have to be really quick.

my itunes wont sync my iphone 4s or my iPads.
the application is not responding and i have to force quit it,....this has been going on for 6 months.
    what do i do?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List

  • CS3 After install "Not Responding"

    Here's the situation:
I have Photoshop CS3 running on my old HP with an Intel processor without issue.  The computer is really old and giving me trouble so I bought a new HP with an AMD Phenom II Processor.  So I was trying to transfer my CS3 to the new computer, it loaded fine but when I started it up to input my serial number it started and showed the application window but freezes and in time it displays that the window is "Not Responding".  In searching the internet I see there is a compatibility issue with the AMD processor.  Any body know of a way around this?
I loaded the Photoshop CS5 trail and it runs fine.  So, I purchased the upgrade.  Ha, it requires the qualified version to be running on the machine before it will allow you to input the new serial number.    Before I return the CS5 upgrade I would like to know if there is a patch that I can use to resolve the CS3 issue so I can use the CS5 version.
    Thanks

    That's simply not true.
Once you enter the serial number for CS5, you get the following prompt.  It's only asking you for the serial number from your prior version:
Read the screen carefully.  Note the specific language:
"Please choose the one you own and enter its serial number".

  • My Win XP hard drive crashed.  we were able to copy most of the files, including the iTunes folders to a USB drive.  My system was reimaged with Win 7.  How do I get my old iTunes folder to work with a new install of iTunes.

I tried installing itunes and then copying the old folders, but that does not work.  The error msg I received was that it could not find the "source files" for the music.

Select a track with a broken link and press CTRL-I to Get Info. What is the location given on the Summary tab? Look for the actual file and note down its path.
Depending on just how you managed to import your old library it may be that iTunes is slightly confused over the folder layout and thinks your library should be in the new structure while it is, in fact, in the old one. If you can post back both paths I can confirm this and give you a set of steps to resolve everything.

  • Itunes 8 downloads ok but won't install (not updating)

    Hi everyone.
Got an ipod for xmas, downloaded itunes 8 for 1st time (not updating), downloads ok, but when opening install program, "open file - security warning" dialog box opens, i click on run, the "unidentified program wants access to your computer" dialog box opens, i click the allow button, i get the 'thinking' cursor for 1 second then nothing happens.
I'm running it as an adminstrator, i've tried running the program in xp service pack 2 mode, i've redownloaded it 3 times, same thing every time i try. not a 64bit machine, i get no errors, it just does nothing.
The file i download is 67,146kb so something is actually there, can anybody please help, this is frustrating and my new ipod is a paperweight.

Hi Polydorus - Happy New Year!!! Thanks for your time and reply.
Yes i have a 32bit version of windows vista (premium)
Yes i downloaded itunes from the apple site, saved it and when i try to run it i get the hourglass for 1 second then nothing.
Looked in the task manager and nothing is running.
Never had any problem installing anything else or anything windows related.
I have spybot (rescanning now) and my antivirus is Nod32 so no risk of anything there. I even tried installing in safe mode, but no luck.
I am running firefox, not I.E. but that shouldn't matter.
I realize this is where people with problems come to gripe, but there seems to me to be a LOT of problems associated with itunes?
Spybot found nothing, Nod32 is Hey?????
While typing this, i was downloading Quicktime from the link you sent to test if that works, the file I've downloaded was named itunes setup(2) shouldn't it be quicktime?????? Guess it automatically called it (2) cause i already got itunes setup in my download folderit's the exact same size as the itunes setup file i've been downloading??????
Now the apple website actually says thanks for downloading Quicktime 7 not a thing about itunes.
Click on the download now link on the site you sent me, http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ wants to download me the itunes file not quicktime??? Try it !!
Maybe the people at apple got on the grog a bit before Christmas???
NOW itunes is installed AND RUNNING !!!!!!!!!
    WHAT THE ..... ???????????
    This is really weird.
Will connect ipod and see if this actually works or is a mirage and repost results.
That might be a fix, download it from the quicktime download link???????????, or rename it with a (2) ????

  • I can no longer find songs on itunes.  Want to revert back and company not responding to my angry commentary.  Please help.

Itunes latest version makes it impossible to find the obscure songs I want.  Apple also appears to have removed the ability to sort according to different columns like popularity, artist, album, song length, etc.  Please help me find a way to find the songs I'm looking for.  I am a heavy purchaser of content thru itunes and have been since my second generation ipod purchase.  I find the removal of the easy way to find new music exasperating.  If this is driven by the labels, then you guys need to go back to them and demand a reversion to the old ways.

Update:  After having problems playing audio and video using several different browsers and apps, I realized that the problem was probably not iTunes or Apple related.  I rebooted several times, to no avail, but the last reboot inexplicably seemed to do the trick.  Everything is working OK again, at least for now.  Weird but I'll take it!

  • My Ipod won't show up on Itunes and tells me that it is either not responding or disconnected

It started right after I upgraded both Itunes and my Ipod touch. The sync tab no longer appears in itunes and when I run a diagnostic, it does not seem to find the ipod. I've restarted the ipod, the apple and ipod service on the computer, uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes twice, and tried using a different computer to check to see if it is the cable itself but nothing seems to be helping!
