3. It will Sync, but it gives a vague error message saying it was unable to backup
4. Deleted .plist file under users
At a loss here.. any help would be appreciated.

Hello scoot3,
Thank you for the details you provided regarding the syncing issue you are experiencing with iTunes.  I found an article that has steps to take when getting an error when trying to backup.
I recommend following the steps in this article:

  • ITunes 10.2.1 64bit won't backup iPhone 3GS, doesn't give option

Hey guys, I've searched pretty thoroughly and can't seem to find help.
I have an iPhone 3GS and a windows desktop with windows 7 64 bit. I have iTunes 10.2.1 64 bit.
In the past, whenever I've tried to sync up my device, it would create a backup, only until recently did I notice that iTunes is no longer backing up my iPhone while syncing.
I've seen this topic gone over a bit throughout various forums and have found no concrete fix. I've seen people refer to deleting the itunes.plist file, and I've tried to find this file but I'm not sure I'm finding the right one.
Please help! I want to update my device but I can't find a way to fix this!
PS I can back up the device on my macbook pro just fine, just not my windows desktop. If I update my device on my windows desktop, can I then restore from backup using my macbook so that everything comes back? And then sync back to my windows desktop to get all my music, etc?
    Thanks

found it, must have been a corrupt preferences file located in user/appdata/apple computer/roaming/itunes
followed this article and by removing that folder and reopening itunes, it backed up just fine!

  • Updated itunes to 11.3 on win 7 but had problems. so reinstalled itunes 11.2 but now itunes won't recognize or sync my touch 3 with 5.1.

updated itunes to 11.3 on win 7 but had problems. so reinstalled itunes 11.2 but now itunes won't recognize or sync my touch 3 with 5.1.  did all the recommended fixes, appears have correct driver, all necessary itunes programs, etc.  still won't work.  help!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • My itunes will not start in Win XP. I get an error that says MSVCR80.dll can't be found. I am scared if I just reinstall iTunes that I will lose all my music and apps that are in the old itunes. What can I do.

My iTunes will not start in Win XP. I am getting an error that says MSVCR80.dll can't be found. I am concerned that if I just do a reinstall
of  iTunes it will overwrite or delete all the music and apps I have on the current app that won't start. When I boot the PC I get the following:
APSDaemon.exe - unable to locate. MSVCR80.dll not found. Reinstalling application may fix this problem. How can I get iTunes started without losing
all my music and apps? Thanks

It won't unless a problem occurs. Back them up, uninstall iTunes and all related components, and reinstall them.

  • I have an old Ipod that won't show up on Windows Explorer but shows in Itunes., I have an old Ipod that won't show up on Windows Explorer but shows in Itunes.

I have an old Ipod that won't show up on Windows Explorer but shows in Itunes., I have an old Ipod that won't show up on Windows Explorer but shows in Itunes.

In iTunes, select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Summary tab.
There should be a checkbox that says Enable disk use.  Check it and Apply the change.  It should now appear in Windows, when the iPod is connected.
NOTE:  When Disk Use is enable, you have to eject the iPod (in iTunes) before physically disconnecting it from computer.

  • I purchased a song on my iMac on iTunes and it plays on that but won't play on my macbook even though both computers are authorized under the same iTunes account.  how do I fix this?

I purchased a song on my iMac on iTunes and it plays on that but won't play on my macbook even though both computers are authorized under the same iTunes account.  It says that i have to authorize my macbook and sign into iTunes, but then says its already authorized.  How do I fix this?

    Hi stuartbonk,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  Here are some steps you can try if you keep getting asked to authorize your MacBook for iTunes:
iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203160
If you authorize your computer to play your iTunes Store purchases, but you can't play them and iTunes keeps prompting you to authorize, try these suggestions.
Authorize your purchases from an administrator account
To authorize your purchases from an administrator account, follow these steps:
Log in to the administrator account.
Note: If you don't have access to an administrator password, you'll need to contact the administrator of this computer. If this is a work computer, this may be your IT department.
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed. You can download the latest version free.
    Choose Store > Authorize Computer.
Enter your iTunes account name and password.
Note: If you have multiple accounts, you'll need to log in to the iTunes Store and authorize each account separately.
    Quit iTunes.
After you've authorized your computer on your administrator account, you'll need to log out and log back in to the user account you'd like to play your purchases from. Once you're logged back in, simply open iTunes, select an iTunes Store purchase in your library, and click Play. The item should begin to play.Authorize using the correct account name
The items you're trying to play might have been purchased using a different iTunes Store account. To determine which account was used to purchase an item, follow these steps:
Select a purchased song in your library and choose File > Get Info.
Click the Summary tab. Note the Account Name that appears in the list. This is the account name (Apple ID) you'll need to use when authorizing your computer to play this purchase.
Note: The account name that appears is the one you used when purchasing the item and does not change if the account name (Apple ID) changes.
If you've authorized the Apple ID that is shown in the Summary tab, you can check the purchase history for that Apple ID from Store > View My Account. If your purchase history does not reflect the purchase of the items in your iTunes library, consider any other Apple ID you may have created, and authorize the computer for your additional Apple ID.
If you forgot the password to one of your accounts, you can recover it using Apple's password-recovery website.Remove the SC Info folderIf you're still unable to authorize your computer to play your purchases, you may be able to resolve your issue by removing the "SC Info" folder. To do so, follow these steps:
    OS X
Quit iTunes and any other open applications until only Finder is open.
Choose Go > Go to Folder.
Type /Users/Shared/SC Info and click Go.
If Finder is not already set to column view, set it by choosing View > as Columns.
Select the SC Info folder and move it to the Trash by choosing File > Move to Trash.
Restart the computer and open iTunes.
Authorize your computer to play your purchases. Note: If you have multiple accounts you'll need to authorize your computer for each account. For more information on how to authorize your computer, see this article.

What if a person no longer has access to the card itself, but iTunes recognizes my login, shows my balance, won't let me get past the "code" page?

What pops up is the page that tells me I can use my camera to take a photo - since I don't have access to the card, useless.  I am caught going round in this loop - there's that one button, no other option.  Thanks in advance.

  • I upgrated iTunes and now my 3G iPod Nano won't get picked up

I believe the iTunes upgrade errased a file of the older version which allowed my laptop recognising my iPod.
How can I determine which file is this??
How can I get it back??
I've tried to find it and download it for the Apple website, but I haven't been able to find the link (if there is any).
I've also tried uninstalling iTunes and installing previous versions but it won't work.
My laptop doesn't read the iPod anymore.
    Can anyone please help me?

  • Just updated itunes to 12.1 and now it won't sync or show my iphone 5s

I just updated itunes to 12.1 and now it won't sync or show my iphone 5s.. I have tried EVERYTHING. I completely uninstalled & reinstalled my itunes 2 times. Everything is completely up to date, and when I plug my iPhone into the computer, it makes the normal beep sound, and charges, but will not sync or show on iTunes so that I can sync anything..

    Hey ksooter,
I know you have said you have tried everything but have you tried out some of the troubleshooting in the article below? For instance, have you checked the Apple Mobile Device support is installed properly and if the Apple Mobile Device is installed? Take a look at the article below to double check some of the things you have done to see if you can get your iPhone to show back up.

My daughter has used my computer to log into iTunes and download music but now it won't let me download recently purchased music from my iPad onto my computer. I want to transfer the recently purchased songs onto my iPod so how can I do this now? iTunes now says that I have to wait another 55 days! There must be a way to do this since I have paid for them.

In iTunes sign out of your daughters Apple ID and sign in with your own.
