ITunes 11.1.1 Issues

I'm seeing 2 issues on the latest version of iTunes:
The App Store and Podcasts tabs and all of their categories are displaying blank pages.
I cannot update my iOS apps through iTunes. I get the prompt to enter my password and then it just repeats after correctly entering it.
I've tried signing out and then back in again but that did not help. Can anyone else relate to these issues?

The new version of iTunes seems to be scrambling the podcast database.  Some of the "missing" podcasts that I'd been saving really weren't missing - they were relocated.  If you look at the top of the "Podcast" main window in iTunes you'll see 4 selections: Unplayed, My Podcasts, My Stations and List.  I started to poke around and ended up finding some of the missing podcasts under "My Stations" and the rest under "List".  I actually knew that they still existed because I used the Finder to search the Podcast folder within the iTunes folder and saw that everything was there.  That still didn't solve the Quicktime problem though.
Here's what I did for that.  I dragged the iTunes folder to the desktop from the "Music" folder.  I opened iTunes which, of course, no longer had a database.  I closed iTunes and dragged the iTunes folder back into the Music folder from the desktop.  When I reopened iTunes it re-registered that folder and now, for whatever reason, it plays those former non-playable podcasts.  I have no idea why that fixed the issue but it did.  Perhaps it's a permissions thing and moving the folder out and back in fixed the permissions.  If that hadn't helped the next thing I would have done would be to do a permission verify and repair from Disk Utility.
Hope that helps.

I have a similar issue - my iPod nano connects and is visible in Device Manager yet invisible in My Computer and iTunes. I've tried everything I can possibly think of to try and solve this myself, all in vain.
Mine is a nano 4G. I've been using it for quite some time without the slightest problem. I have been using WINAMP instead of iTunes to manage my darling nano.
Then, one fine day I bought a new computer and the nano would not show up in My Computer, though the nano display shows "Do not disconnect". On my old computer it worked (and still works) absolutely fine with win XP as well as with win7 (the later I currently use on my new/problematic computer, which I bought last summer and that's how long I've had this problem).
Of course, after several first attempts I gave up and installed iTunes. I've tried using the Apple support article "iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows":
    - reset
    - fully charged,
    - cable works fine on two other computers
    - in normal or disk mode makes no difference
    - tried to find anything useful in the diagnostics mode
    - reinstalled iTunes several different times since then to the latest version
    - I've unplugged every other USB device except for my mouse and keyboard and tried several different USB ports on my motherboard (USB 3.0 and conventional), as well as trying different USB- related options in my BIOS.
    - I've never used any Mac with this ipod
    - I've tried fiddling with the win7 Services by stopping and restarting them and of course
    - uninstalling the iPod drivers in Device Manager. After such an uninstall the ipod would automatically be recognised and "ready for use", i.e. being invisible in My Computer.
    - Attempted to find any possible third-party conflict with msconfig or the possibility that my ipod is being confused for a network drive (for which I've disconnected my HDD, leaving only my SSD with the OS).
Sometimes, iTunes would note that iPod service (or something, can't remember exactly) failed to install properly and asked to try and repair it. I would click YES! and voila - no change! The ipod would rarely show up in iTunes on my problematic computer like this:
iTunes would warn me that the nano would need restoring so I would try and do it on my haunted machine upon which iTunes would freeze like you seen in the picture.
Despite this, I've updated and restored the nano on my father's computer to the latest version without any problems. This though, did not solve my problem in any way.
I can load music to my nano through my old computer (which for me is a real pain and hassle) and the gadget works normally in terms of its disconnected functionality.
I've taken my nano to the local service for repair and they said it was fine. Mercifully, they didn't charge for the diagnostics service (gee, thanks for not ripping me off!).
Here are two screengrabs from my Device Manager
and Devices and Printers screens on my comp:
That is my sad story as far as I can remember. It's most likely something with the drivers or something along those lines though I'm out of ideas at this point.
If you think you have any idea PLEASR HELP, I'M DESPERATE!

  • 1 Fix: iTunes UN-inst / Inst Issues

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376?viewlocale=en_US
The above covers multi-issues BUT certainly the Apple Mobile Device Sppt --- Uninstall problem.
See #2 in above link and Expand the [32-64 and 64-Bit System] links to see WHAT to Manually UNinstall in (64 bit) Program Files (x86) and              (32-64) Program Files.
The Apple Sppt staffer who had remote access to my friend's computer dealt with the Program Files (x86) only BUT I'd look at them all per the instructions.
iTunes and Apple Software Update were already Deleted.
He skipped the Apple Mob Dev Sppt problem and uninstalled Bojour.
He then went to Program Files (x86) per the above links and did a manual Delete in Comon Files\Apple, although there are multi-deletes to do per the instructions.
He stated the Manual Delete(s) was Key to most people's problems.
After the Manual Delete we RE-BOOTED, downloaded iTunes, and did the Install with 1 Glitch as follows: a pop-up stated the Registry Settings to Import and Burn Cds was missing and that could be from having another Burner App installed....REinstall iTunes.
We didn't because that's not anything our friend does, and I presume her iPhone update capabilities are there.
Logged into Store but that's all.
Try manual Delete(s) as described before Installing iTunes again.
I'll update the CD Burn/Registry isue when I can reach Sppt again.

EDIT: 2/16/14: I was told that the Pop-up about Missing Registry Entries to Import / Burn CDs can be corrected by (1) Starting Over and (2) Uninstalling the List in #2 as directed ref support.apple.com LINK just below, PLUS UNINSTALL QUICKTIME, too.
The C:\Quicktime Files should be checked for complete Deletetion by Uninstall, and manually Delete any left-overs.

  • Since updating iTunes, having playback sound issues

Updated iTunes so that I could install iOS 5.  Now when using iTunes for playback from my library on my iMac the sound is TERRIBLE.  Really low volume, muddy sound.  Volume on everything else is fine, so it isn't a speaker issue.  Volume was fine a few days ago, so I'm assuming that it is an iTunes 10.5 (141) issue.

I'm now having the same sound problem with my AAC audiobook files. Couldn't yet sa if it's all the files or just some of the newly imported ones.
They now playback with noticable aliasing as if their bitrate has been significantly lowered.
Horrible to listen to music that now sounds like an AM radio broadcast.
Gonna wait and hope to see if a fix will come this week.
Also noticed that some of the same type files don't correctly copy into my iTunes library for some reason.

  • My iPad can't connect to iTunes, is there an issue on iTunes end?

For the past week, I have not been able to update any apps.  I have changed my password, I have made sure my connection is good still nothing.  Why can't I connect with iTunes?

I forgot to mention I have gone through the troubleshooting recommended and there is no issue from my stand point for my iPad 2.  That is why I am wondering if iTunes are experiencing server issues.

  • Itunes 10.5.2 Issues! Been "Updating iTunes Library" for over 8 hrs now. Not even halfway finished on about 275 GB

Itunes 10.5.2 Issues! Been "Updating iTunes Library" for over 8 hrs now. Not even halfway finished on about 275 GB
Anyone else having issues with this update?!?!?!
Can't access anything in my library while it's doing this.

I moved into a clean install last night and when I fired up iTunes 10.5.1. I held down "option" key, selected my original library and everything was perfect. That was until I quit. It started to "update" the library. I was slightly concerned, but since I had just moved into a new install I let it go and hoped for the best. For 85GB it took quite a while, close to an hour. This made me a little more concerned, but in the light of Apple, I resigned myself to the fact that "stuff" happens. And again hoped for the best. So I would imagine for 275GB would be a lot more. THEN after that was done it asked if I wanted it do something to match my settings? ***? My settings were the same as they were in the previous install. Or did something not go right with 10.5.1 in the other install and this was overlooked? I OK'd it and hoped for the best again.
But now I am getting an error as I startup iTunes:
"A required iTunes component is not installed. Please reinstall iTunes. (-42404)"
iTunes comes up just fine behind this error and after dismissing it all is just fine. Or so I think or am led to believe. I'm thinking it's a "phone home" component, so I'm not real concerned. That's why I came here today to look up this error and stumbled on this post that somewhat happened to me last night.
Looks like the process takes a while. And what it's updating I'm not sure, but I run nightly updates and all the "important" iTunes files in many iterations are safely backed up for reversion. Apple, never a dull moment . . .

  • When I play a movie through iTunes, audio has no issues but video stutters and skips

    Hey everyone,
    I have a Dell 17R, Windows 8 64 bit, intel i7-3630QM at 2.4 GHZ, 8gb ram, Nvidia GT-650M at 1920x1080 using driver 320.49
When I play a movie in iTunes, the audio works flawlessly but the video will be smooth for a few seconds, stutter and then skip small 2-3 second spots. I haven't noticed that the parts skipped are any more graphically intense than other spots and there is no discernable pattern.
In the past, I have been able to play movies through iTunes with absolutely no problem but when I downloaded this most recent one a few days ago all of my movies have been experiencing the same issue.
When I stream other videos from other sources I do not experience the same problems as I do when I use iTunes. Streaming 1080P over youtube or a similar services is no issue.
I have updated my video drivers to the latest version as well.
I am at a loss, any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • ITunes wont open - Quicktime issue

Ive tryed to reinstall itunes at least half a dozen times now and nothing will fix this issue. If i try to open itunes, the process (in task manager) starts but gets to about 38000K then nothing, never opens no matter how long i wait. Im unable to end this process either, so it just sits there taking up memory. Following the advice of someone else in another thread i tryed changing the compatability of quicktime and itunes to windows 2000 and this gave me the error message that "quicktime is required to run itunes" despite the fact that i do have it installed. Reinstalling both itunes and quicktime have no effect on the problem, does anyone have any ideas?

    Hello BaconSquishy.
First thing I would do is turn compatibility mode off if you have it on for iTunes and Quicktime. As this will not really fix anything except under rare and special conditions.
Next thing I would do is Basic uninstall in the following order. And installation in the following order. If this does not work proceed to last link below for assistance.
Uninstall the following Apple Applications in the following order.
Launch Control Panel and open Add/Remove Programs or Programs and features if you have Vista.
    -Apple Mobile Device Support
    -Apple Software Update
    -Bonjour
-Windows iPod Updater (Name might be different but look for anything with the word iPod)
    -MobileME Control Panel
    -Quicktime
    -iTunes
    *Now reboot the computer
-Download and install Quicktime Standalone. There will be 2 options. Click the Quicktime Standalone
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
-Download and install iTunes once Quicktime is installed
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
*Launch iTunes. Depending on the speed of your machine. Give it 4 min tops to load. Should not take that long. Pay close attention to fire wall alert messages as they might be looking for approval to launch the App.
*If you still can not launch it check the link below

  • ITunes 11.1.3 issues - freezing during audio playback.

Like many other folks on here, I'm having some playback issues with iTunes 11.1.3.
Macbook (couple years old) 2.4 mhz 2 core- 4 gigs ram
We use this computer primarily for music playback for dance classes and performances. Have run dozens of shows over the last year or so with zero issues.
There *might* be a better playback software option, but iTunes doesn't get in the way with too many options, has (up until now) been rock solid, and has never let us down, and is less prone to user error causing huge WHOOPS during something important.
That is, until 11.1.3. Didn't really notice any issues at first, but wife came home from a dress rehearsal Wednesday evening and complained - "it froze a couple of times while playing back Act 1. What's wrong with my computer?". (Act 1 - approx 50 minutes of music - 40ish total cuts).
I looked at it - she had a ton of other stuff running - mail - wifi - DVDPlayer - iPhoto - you name it. I figured that was the problem, shut all the other stuff off, and figured it was solved.
Nope - I'm running audio during our final tech rehearsal this evening before performances start in the morning.
35 or 40 minutes in - froze again during a track.
It just stopped - buttons became unresponsive - beachball came up - we waited a minute - and then it freaked out while trying to catch up with anything I had pressed, skipped around a bit, then resumed acting normal again.
Took a short break - checked nothing else was running that didn't need to be and made some adjustments:
    Wifi off
    Cloud off
Check downloads, sync, podcasts ... all off.
Reset all warnings. Reset cache ( which took a surprising amount of time)
    Match and Genius, off
Opened Acitvity Monitor and stopped any processes that were not essential
    Reboot ....
Another 30 or 40 minutes later - froze again.
Luckily, the lighting guy had a PC laptop with him. I quickly authorized his computer, transferred everything, and the rest of the evening went without a glitch.
Not sure what to do next. I'm pretty sure it's NOT the computer.
Disk checks OK. All hardware test are OK.
    Couple of observations:
    1. If I repair permissions - it finds a TON of messed up (?) iTunes permissions and fixes them. One day later, it find just as many again. What's up with that?
    2. If I watch disk access in the Actiity monitor during playback - on occassion there's a WRITE spike. Odd. What's it writing? This is with NOTHING ELSE running but iTunes, which didn't glitch during the spike, but still, what's that? A contributing factor? A clue?
    3. CPU and memory use looked OK. Haven't managed to get it to glitch again while I'm actually watching this though.
Between what I've tried, and what I've read here, I'm pretty convinced our Macbook isn't at fault here. I'm pretty sure there's a problem with 11.1.3
If anybody has other observations or suggestions, I'l love to hear them.

    Are these recent releases?
I had troubles right after iTunes 10 came out because Digital copies were misreading "10" as "1" since the version check script was only looking for a single digit version number. Newer releases shouldn't have this, but if it's more than two years old, it might do this.

  • Has the recent Itunes upgrade caused incompatibility issue with APPLE TV 1st gen?

after recent upgrade to itunes, itunes no longer recognizes data on my apple tv 1st gen....but the Apple TV still has them loaded.  additonally this new itunes does not let me resync new songs or movies, etc.  thoughts? thanks!

I'm having the exact same issue. Nothing in the "Music" menu except "My Music". I Noticed it this afternoon when I woke my Apple TV from standby. The disappearance, in my case, was not related to a reset. My Apple TV has not been reset since the power went out here several weeks ago. Though I obviously don't know for sure, I'm guessing that it's some kind of store problem and we most likely won't be able to correct it from our end.

  • Itunes/external hard drive issue - i cant find the answer anywhere

    okay so here it is:
i am currently using an imac g5 (v. 10.4.8) and i just got a g-drive to store my music onto. i am using a 400 firewire cable and i have tried a few different methods to copy my music files to the drive (methods are listed here) but every time i transfer any song to the drive, it gives me this:
"the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "file name" could not be read or written. (error code -36)."
i have looked through numerous forums about this problem and some have suggested to check the firewire connection but i doubt it's the connection because other files such as microsoft word documents or pictures can easily be transferred onto the drive without any problems.
my itunes library is comprised of mp3/m4a files.. some of which have been downloaded, others taken directly from my cds. i tried to see if this problem was occuring with my downloaded files (assuming some of them may be corrupted) but it's not the case because the error shows up with EVERY song I try to transfer onto the drive.
the problem MAY have something to do with the fact that... a long time ago, i tried to get rid of all my album artwork and i was looking through forums, and one of the solutions was to convert my files to "aac" (which can be done in the itunes preferences menu). however, i've tried converting some songs back to mp3 formats and transferring them again and it still doesn't work. also, one time i converted the id3 tags of the songs, but i dont think that has anything to do with it
this is the given information for one of my itunes songs if it's of any help:
i think i've tried just about everything, please help me! thank you
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Some things to check:
What format is the drive? Is it formatted for OS X or for Windows? If windows is it FAT 32? Each of these have different naming conventions, different read and write capabilities. If your drive is only for use with your Mac, reformat it for Mac OS Journalled using disk utility.
This may also be a file permissions issue. As as we're not dealing with System Files here, Disk Utility is of no help.Try setting the permissions on the folder using BatchMod from

  • ITunes 11/iPod Nano issues with syncing

I just updated to iTunes 11 after recently getting a new 16GB Nano. I wasn't having any trouble syncing my iPod until I downloaded the new iTunes. Now  it keeps getting stuck on the second track that it's attempting to sync (track 2 of 345, e.g.)

every since I bought a windows 8 computer, having same issue; if I stop; restart it will get one more track, but I have over 20000 tracks; I even manually converted all 22000 tracks from mp3 to m4a and still didn't fix.  it would take days or months to sync 22000 songs manually this way.  If you search online, there are free alternatives to itunes now to sync your ipod and I think I may be leaving itunes if the issue isn't resolved in next week or two. I am seeing the official response from apple seems to be they have no intention at this time to make itunes compatible with windows 8.

  • Windows 8 and itunes 11 burning cd issues

i installed windows 8 and ever since itunes wont burn or recognize cds. My diagnostics say that the cd driver is not available. I've tried working with upper and lowerfilters. if i add both then my computer doesn't even recognize i have a cd drive at all. i've uninstalled, restarted, reinstalled. i'm at my wits end. anyone got any ideas?

Im not sure that will solve the issue I have with itunes. I have a lenovo laptop and I think it's just an issue with Apple who has to modify the program for users of Windows 8 so that itunes can be used and to find purchased music. I found the music I purchased through itunes but it's not the full tracks. It said it allows me to download it fully so I can hear the whole track, but needs some kind of capatibility? I have no idea what the problem is. If someone has the answer knowing my computer brand and having windows 8 compatibility issues, please let me know what you suggest.

  • Itunes/Outlook Calendar Syncing Issue - UTF-8 Flavor

I have had the usual and much discussed issue of outlook calendar does not sync with iTunes. The recommendations have been to remove iTunes and re-install, even blow away all the configuration files as well, and it even worked for me once. But not this time.
I was running Windows XP, and all of a sudden the Outlook 2007 calendar just stopped syncing. I upgraded from XP to 8.1, and that was not fun, but inevitable, and still didn’t correct the problem. Now, if you never upgraded from XP to 8.1 – you can’t – at least it is not a direct flight. First, you have to upgrade from XP to 8.0, then from 8.0 to 8.1, and there is no upgrade in place from XP to 8.0. So what does an upgrade in place mean? Your applications and profiles are not carried over. Just your data (if you ask nicely) is carried over – but all applications have to be re-installed from scratch, and reactivated if there was license activation.
So, forget about re-install of iTunes, I changed OS, reinstalled iTunes and Office 2007 from scratch. And still had the syncing problem. So, I wasn’t getting off easy.
In searching, I found some debugging stuff which I tried, as follows to turn on logging:
    So, I ran the following:
    cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\
    defaults write com.apple.Outlook.client.exe ShouldLog YES
    defaults write -globalDomain SyncServicesLogEverything YES
    defaults write -globalDomain SyncServicesLogPersonalInfo YES
And this turned on a lot of tracing. The tracing helped me understand what was going on under the covers, But I am not sure I was getting enough of the information that I needed to really zero in on the bad record.
Now, I will pause and provide some observation of my specific Sync.
An iTunes Sync on a Windows machine when using Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer is selected on the INFO tab of the page for the device.
Selections include Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks and Notes.
One of the programs involved with Outlook Synchronization is: com.apple.Outlook.client.exe
The program is called when Outlook data needs to be accessed, and is used for contacts, calendar and notes when those items are paired between the iDevice and Outlook. Bookmarks are usually paired with the browser, for example IE.
During the sync operation, each of these are sync’d separately, that is why if you follow the sync actions, iTunes will reflecting what is being synced at the moment, for example “syncing contacts”.
When syncing the calendar, and iTunes is running a slow sync, it reads the Outlook calendar using the com.apple.Outlook.client.exe and does processing of the recursion and time zone information.
    For example, for recurrence:
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Setting recurrence data <04300430 0d200200 000000ae 06000c00 00000000 00000400 00002120 0000e703 00000000 00000000 00000000 0000a0e7 980cc016 d10c0630 00000830 00000000 0000a005 00000000 00000000 00000000>
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] 0 recurrence exceptions
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Reading the Extended Exception Info (i.e. Unicode data)
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Done making compatible recurrence
    For example, for timezone:
[5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:43 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Could not create a time zone from outlook name, tried using name (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
Then the calendar entries are pushed, for example:
    ca965dbc4717d9488fafc9266f1f829304082700 =     {
            "all
    day" = 1;
            calendar
    =         (
                ca965dbc4717d9488fafc9266f1f829382800000
    "com.apple.outlook.freebusy" = Free;
    "com.apple.syncservices.RecordEntityName" = "com.apple.calendars.Event";
            "end date" = "2020-05-11 12:00:00 +0000";
            location = "United States";
            "start date" = "2020-05-10 12:00:00 +0000";
            summary = "Mother's Day";
So, my SYNC fails, and I crash and burn with:
[5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:41:22 2014] [_ISDVLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] SyncServices assertion failure (nil != strUTF8) in [(null) (null)], SDLogging.m:641 could not obtain UTF-8 flavor of formatted string
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:41:23 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] objcMain caught an exception:
    name
    NSInternalInconsistencyException
    reason     : [(null)
(null)]: could not obtain UTF-8 flavor of formatted string
    user info  : (null)
    call stack : (
Now I’m back. So, during the extract and push of the outlook calendar entries, iTunes is building formatted strings. Now, Unicode is usually 16 bit (2 characters) Unicode, sometimes called double byte code. UTF-8 is single byte, so realize you can’t squeeze 16 bits into a 8 bit byte. However, you could if the Unicode string only contained characters that were valid for the UTF-8 character set. My interpretation of the error message above was that somewhere a formatted character string contained a “non-UTF-8” character and raised the assertion. Now, my issue with the excessive detailing from the logs was that – at least with the logging parameters I had turned on – I couldn’t figure out which calendar entry caused the exception to be thrown.
First instinct was  that the last calendar entry in the trace was the culprit, so I deleted that calendar entry, ran again, the sync went up to the previous entry, and threw the exception. This gives me two theories: Either the sync was processing the next entry – which wasn’t printed in the trace yet – and failed, or the sync was going back to previous records – like reviewing the buffer. In either case, the trace wasn’t helping and it was all theories.
Now what? What has everyone been saying? Issues with recurrence. And in the trace, as you see above as an example, “0 recurrence exceptions”, “reading the extended exception info (i.e. Unicode data)”.
Now, I have no clue what that means. My initial guess was that recurrence exceptions (I had non-zeros on some) was an error. But further research I realized what it could mean was that these were situations where there were recurrence exceptions. What is a recurrence exception? Suppose I want to schedule a meeting on the 4th day of the month, for every month of the year. Well, except maybe July 4th, because it is a holiday and the office is closed. I would send the meeting invite, and then a cancellation for the July 4th. (I hear there is no simple way to do this). I now have an exception because I broke the recurrence chain. Other forms of exceptions is if I keep changing the location, or the body of the invite – e.g. every month I update the agenda, but only for one recurrence, not the entire series.
So, keep in mind,  that if the issue is conversion to a UTF-8 character, and it is failing, then uninstall/reinstall of anything is not going to help if the real issue at hand is the data in Outlook and is not a coding or configuration issue. Now, sometimes it is an issue, but you need to see why the syncserver tasks are failing, and may fail due to other reasons including other data issues.
So, what did I do? Well IO have 15K calendar entries, which, was taking an hour or two to slow sync (I call it a slow dance) and I was, spending days (maybe a couple of weeks) trying to fix this – and frustration was on the high end.
I removed some of my older recurrences, and changed others from never expire to like 25 maximum occurrences. No idea which one worked, or even if it was a coincidence. However, the UTF-8 error went away, and then I moved to the next issue.
Now, before we get there, with outlook 2007 finding recurrences is not difficult. Go into the calendar, and select appointment or list view (Outlook 2013 list view works ok). You can then sort on the recurrence column and see which (if any) items gave a recurrence pattern. Now maybe someone can figure out specific BAD calendar items that are throwing the exception to give us a better idea of what to look for and then report it so we can do further research.
Now, once we can get the issue out of the way, stop iTunes from throwing an exception, we are not 100% done yet. By this time what is in Outlook and on the iDevice is out of sync. We need to get that message to popup asking us if we want to merge the data between the iDevice and Outlook. This can be important if you don’t want to lose data. My issue is that with iTunes 11.2.2 for some reason won’t do it, i.e. when I select “reset sync history” it doesn’t work. At that point I was forced to rename my iTunesprefs, the syncserver folder, and a few other folders. In this case, for Windows 7 and later, the folders in “Apple Computer” of both the local and roaming paths, and I had to cancel running tasks that had those folders open. One way or another, you want the iTunes message asking if you want to merge the folders.
What can you do to help?
Report success or failures using the information above
Report if you are getting the same UTF-8 message, or if you are seeing other exceptions
Report specific cases of calendar entries that you find that you have isolated to be throwing an exception
Report any other logging/tracing parameters that you may find. It looks like you can turn on “ShouldLog” using the defaults.exe command for other tasks that iTunes runs.
This syncing issue has been going on for years, under different iTunes versions, there has to be something going on and an easier way to troubleshoot this problem. I wish I had the time, but right now I fixed the problem I had and was able to resync my Outlook with my two iPads and iPhone.
The only issue I have left at the moment is the message “the ipad xxx cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-54). – despite this error message, I am syncing, but the message is distracting and annoying.

Yes - both have time zone support and are set to London/GMT
The most recent of these aberrations was not even crossing a DST change - just a simple recurring event (which I've manually changed to single events by copy/paste).
I just tried a new one which goes back 1 hr 27 Oct - when UK clocks go back. As it's a dummy apt I'll leave it and see if if goes back to the correct time on 27 Oct! In the meantime, I can't afford for my appts to get screwed up so will continue to do them manually!
    Thanks for your input.

  • After upgrading to latest version of iTunes audio CD burning issues

    Hi,
I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and now when I try to burn a playlist as an audio CD it keeps telling me it won't fit on one CD and I have now gotten the playlist down to 1 hour and it is an 80 Min CD and it still won't let me do it. Anyone else having an issue and if so is there a solution?
    Thanks,
    Mike

I've seen this once before and deleting the playlist and recreating it with a different name solved it.
Also... try using disk utility to burn a data CD to make sure that burning generally works. Daft I know, but there you go.
