ITunes 11.1.1 SONG Count is WRONG!

Hi,
The title says it all.
However a bit more background detail.
I'm running 10.8.5 on 2.3ghz, iCore 7 with 8gb of DDR3 with Terabyte storage.
Yes the system has been updated, yes i am running the latest iTunes, and YES I have diligently applied all system patches.
That said...
What the frak is wrong with iTunes, aside from the bloated beast it's become ?
As you can see from the images below....the song counts are OFF from the same playlist folder.
The 1st image is from iTunes, the 2nd is from Swinsian.  Regardless of Swinsian because it IS reading the exported XML file from iTunes, which is reporting the correct number of songs in a given folder of playlists, iTunes 11 on the other hand is NOT!  Sadly.  I have gone thru and checked each individaul playlist and done the math that each is reporting the correct number of songs in a playlist...and the number that I come up with is 569 just like Swinsian does and the XML file does.  However, iTunes is NOT reporting that...as you can see, it reporting 247!  Ummmm iTunes/Apple...your math is slightly WRONG!
Is anyone else seeing this ?  Obviously there is a corruption somewhere...but I'll be damned if I can see it or figure out how the frak to fix it....

What version of Windows?

My iTunes match on my laptop has several songs under the wrong album title. Is there anyway to correct this?

    Hey rehartline,
Are you using any 3rd party applications to name or organize files in your iTunes library?
Try re-creating your iTunes Library, then sync the iPod again.

  • ITunes Plus Upgrade, Two Song Counts, Price Does Not Add Up

When I click on the iTunes Plus Upgrade in the iTunes store, I see two song counts. One is called Total Songs, the other is called Songs. The Total Songs number is higher than the Songs number. It appears that the Song number is what can be upgraded, the actual list of songs shown below matches.
But I'm not sure what the Total Songs number represents. It is lower than the total number of Protected AAC songs I have in my library.
So, does anyone know what the Total Song count represents?
Another confusing issue is that if I multiple the Songs count by $0.30 (which is the cost per song) that number is less than what the iTunes store says it will cost. I only have one video that can be upgraded, so that should only add another $0.30 to the total cost. But the total cost iTunes is showing is calculates to about 50% more songs that what it shows I can upgrade to.

I've done some comparisons of the File Info between my DRM-Protected 'Dark Side' and 'Animals' songs and the DRM-Free versions. It turns out there are differences which might explain the trouble Upgrade My Library has in recognizing eligible albums.
    On 'Animals':
    Standard http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/travisschiller/Picture2.png
    Plus http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/travisschiller/Picture1.png
Notice the difference in the album art and, notably, the Copyright information. This is not the same song with only quality affected. Apparently, there was some copyright changes that took place, which might critically affect the eligibility of an album or songs.
The same with 'Dark Side of the Moon':
    Standard http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/travisschiller/Picture4.png
    Plus http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/travisschiller/Picture3.png
Notice here, too, the running time of the song is different.
All that needs to be done by Apple is a configuration of Upgrade My Library so that it will recognize these previous versions of these albums for those of us who bought it before the revision took place.

  • ITunes and iPod show different song counts... not all songs sync

    Hi,
I've been having this problem for many many years.
I have more than 18,000 songs now, and the song count in iTunes is always 5 higher than on the iPod.  I have my iPod set to sync the entire library.  All songs in the library are checked for sync as well.  I get no error message during sync that something might be missing, incompatible, or corrupt  When I look at iPod music in iTunes it has the wrong count as well.
Every time a new version of iTunes comes out, I send feedback to Apple regarding this issue.  As expected, Apple ignores their feedback, and from what I can tell they ignore the community forums as well, and they have yet to address the issue in any way, or even contact me about it.
I'd like to find which songs are bad and remove/delete them from my library and collection or fix them.  Is there a sync log hidden somewhere that I can check to see which songs will or won't sync?  Why doesn't iTunes tell us whether or not it expects a song to sync or if it's iPod compatible?  Why does it say less songs will sync without giving a reason why?
I've heard that iPods don't sync duplicate files, but I've looked at my duplicates.. At some point, Apple screwed that up too, it shows songs that are from different compilations as duplicates now, instead of looking at the data proper to determine if it's a duplicate, it seems to just look at the Artist and Song Title and even that doesn't seem to be correct because I have more duplicate song titles listed and in some cases it lists songs from two different artists as being duplicates.  I have many more duplicates listed in itunes than the discrepancy in the song count would suggest... 3,835 more songs to be exact.
I've tried to select only checked songs and get the same results.  I've tried to restore the iPod and I get the same results.  I've tried clearing the library completely and reloading all songs and I still get the same results.  I've scanned through the library and all songs appear to have compatible settings.   All my songs are either mp3 or m4a(aac) formats.  I don't use playlists at all.
If anyone knows of a solution, please let me know.  I don't want to have to check every single file.
    Thanks!

So that you know, for the future, Apple makes it very clear (specifically so, when you submit Feedback) that they do not respond to the feedback directly. They do however, read the feedback and consider suggestions for improvements to iPods. They also look for - and act upon - bug reports etc. That's what the Feedback is for.
They also make it clear that they do not monitor or respond to these discussions. (That said, Apple employees are free to - and do look at - some of the posts and have been known to contact posters directly when looking for further information regarding bugs.)
As you have now found, this community (as Apple now prefers to call it) can often help sort out your problems, espcecially when skilled users such as tt2 (aka Steve) are let loose!

  • How do I view total song count in iTunes 11?  Previous versions listed total song counts at the bottom.

Does anyone know how I can view my total song count in my library in iTunes 11?  All previous versions listed the total song count in my library at the bottom.  Thanks for the help!

It sounds like the staus bar is turned off. Select view from the menu bar and enable the staus bar.

You haven't opened an account with that Apple ID in iTunes. Open iTunes and log in. A dialog will appear in which you need to enter your Apple ID and/or password. Below it you should see a link for creating a new account. Click on that link to get started.

  • ITunes 11 Song Count

iTunes 11 no longer shows the number of songs that are in my music library. How do I get the song count back?

  • Different song counts on iTunes & iPhone(?)

    Greetings;
I've been noticing a difference between the synched song counts that are displayed in iTunes/Devices on the "Music" tab, and the actual number of songs that are on my iPhone. Any idea why this is?

Go into iTunes, connect your iPhone, and select it in the sidebar under "Devices".  In the main browser window, click on the Music tab.  Under "Sync Music", see if it's set to sync everything or selected playlists.  That's where you tell iTunes what to sync to the iPhone.
It's also possible that your iPhone has hit its limit and cannot sync as many songs as iTunes is tasked to do.
In any case, I'd look at those two things first.
    Good luck.

  • Song Count Different in iTunes Library and iPod

I am perplexed now. iTunes says I have 6643 songs in the library, and it says it is fully synched with my iPod. Yet the iPod thinks it has only 6603 songs on it. I have gone carefully through the library, and every song thinks it is downloaded. When I mount the iPod, and highlight it in the Source column, the library also reports that the iPod has only 6603 songs on it, so it agrees with the iPod. So what are the 40 songs that the library has that won't download onto the iPod?

Solution found. I find this amazing, but the iTunes library and the iPod treat duplicates in different ways. In iTunes, if one accidentally ends up with a duplicate song (for example by ripping the same CD twice, not realizing it was ripped before) the iTunes library shows the song twice (and the underlying mp3 files exists twice in the store). And the number of songs showing in the library includes both copies of the song, the original and the duplicate. If you then synch up the iPod, however, iTunes only loads one copy of the song to the iPod. So in my case it transpired that there were 40 duplicates on my computer, none of which downloaded to the iPod, and that is why the song count was higher in the iTunes library, and why the volume of music in the library showed as 240 MB more than what was in the iPod. Very strange design that iTunes knows enough not to download duplicates, but still shows them in the library. Solution is to go to Edit / Show Duplicates in the iTunes library, but be careful as there will be many false positives.

  • ITunes store - Songs labeled completely wrong

  • Matched song is encoded wrong on iTunes 256 kbps version

iTunes successfully matched the song "No More Love" by God Lives Underwater, and when I retrieved the song from iCloud on another device, there is an error at time 0:53.  There is about a half second of a totally different song right in the middle of the track!  I tried deleting the file and re-downloading from the cloud, but the error is always there; the track is therefore not having an error in downloading — it must be encoded wrong in the iTunes Store!  How can I get this remedied?

I can confirm this, I have the same error at the same point in this song on the iTunes matched version.

  • Itunes song count doesn't jive with the music folder

itunes says I have 3258 songs. My music folder claims I have 3191 items. Some of the 3191 are songs I have previously deleted from itunes. Where are the rest of the itunes library.

So you have some songs in the iTunes music folder that are not in iTunes?
This script -> Super Remove Dead Tracks v2.1 will remove any songs from iTunes which are not on yoru hard drive.
This script -> List Music Folder Files Not Added v2.0 will search your iTunes music folder for songs not in iTunes and give you a list.

  • Please help... Song count not updating on Nano

Hello. No matter how many songs I add to my Nano the song count on the front or main menu of my Nano never updates. My first time syncing I added 329 songs, now I have over 1000 on my Nano but it continues to say 329 at the main menu.
Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks
    Steve

No idea, but perhaps it is as simple as performing a Restore on the iPod and seeing if that gets everything back the way it should be working.
Note: Restoring erased the iPod and restores it to factory defaults, so only do this if everything on the iPod is safely backed up elsewhere, hopefully in your iTunes library.

    1) In a Finder window highlight a file of the kind you want to change the application to open that kind of file.
    2) While that file is highlighted, select File > Get Info or press command (apple or propeller icon) + i to get a file information window.
    3) In the lower part of the info window there is an "open with" menu with a list of applications.
    4) If your application is already in the box then it is the default application for opening that kind of file and you don't need to do anything more.  Close the get info window.
    5) If the application showing in the menu is not the one with which you wish to open the file then select a new application. If your application does not appear there then select the "other..." and track down the application (usually in the Applications folder at the main level of the computer).

  • Sometimes when I play songs in Itunes by double clicking on them, Itunes will place the song as the first one on the album.  It will chnage the order of the songs on the album, and I can not switch them back to the correct order.

Sometimes when I play songs in Itunes by double clicking on them, Itunes will place the song as the first one on the album.  It will chnage the order of the songs on the album, and I can not switch them back to the correct order.  This onloy seems to happen when I double-click on the song to play it in itunes.  If I just hit play, this doesnt happen.  As a result, I have several albums now in which the songs are in the wrong order.  Its very frustrating, as this error then transfers over to my ipod every time I sync it.  When I choose the info. for the songs, it has them correctly listed (i.e., it lists the songs as being #1 of 19 on the CD, for example).  But then the song will have placed by Itunes as #5 of 19 for whatever reason.  Itunes does not do this every time, but does it with enough frequency to be maddening.  Any thoughts?

The problem of tracks becoming de-linked between iTunes and the music files in your iTunes music folder happens for different reasons - this seems to come up fairly commonly in this forum.
The solution can be to locate each song in the iTunes library, as you mentioned - or, but wait, before I get to that...
trouble finding the original track in your iTunes music folder? maybe look for it under compilations, or if not using the 'group compilations preference' then look in the folder under the songs artist name, but what song artist name iTunes uses depends on what you have in the metedata tag spot for album artist or song artist. Any varyation in artist name spelling, in the menu item 'get info' metadata for any selected individual track will cause iTunes to create that as a separate artist folder in the library, even names like 'various' or any difference at all (even the word 'the' can change where in your iTunes music folder a track gets placed by iTunes). You can try to use the finder function of find file (finder munu item outside of iTunes) to locate hard to find items.
Back to how to re-link any de-linked tracks .
There may be scripts that can help re-link de-linked music files - or, at least provide you a list of such files, Scripts are easy to install and use...
at Dougs Scripts, there is one called iTunes Track CPR that might work
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=itunestrackcpr
or, if you just want a list of de-linked tracks, go to
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/
and find the script called List MIA's, this will create a text file listing all de-linked tracks
