ITunes 11.1.1 won't open even after OS update.  Is there something ELSE I'm missing?

After I updated my iTunes to 11.1.1, it wouldn't open.  I found something on these forums that had a link to an OS update to fix the problem.  Downloading and installing the OS update took nearly 24 hours, and iTunes still won't open.  Is there something else I'm missing?

first of all you want to back up all music files before you uninstall itunes. if mavericks wont let you uninstall itunes then right click on itunes in your applications folder, then get info, then go to the bottom and change all permissions to read and write. then close and try to uninstall and reinstall. if that doesnt work then this does :
open apps, go to utilities, open terminal and cut and paste or type in these 3 commands, hitting return after each one.
(first type) killall iTunes
(then hit return)
(then type) killall "iTunes Helper"
(then hit return)
(then type) sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/
(and hit return)
after the last one you will be warned and asked to enter your password. do it.
once completed you will see on your itunes icon with a ? shadow inside it.
drag it off the dock and it goes poof.
then download itunes from apple.
if they wont let you download 11.1.5 itunes then use 10.7 Download it from Apple here.
and then install and upgrade to 11.1.5 from there. this is the method i used when my itunes just bounced after installing mavericks. it takes only minutes and your itunes will be as right as rain. enjoy.

    Try close all inactive apps
    1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
    2. Swipe up on the screenshot of the app you want to exit.
    3. The app will fly off the screen

Have you run the iPhoto Library Upgrader? You need to direct it to the location of your old iPhoto Library by clicking the "Choose Library" button in the lower right corner of the panel you are seeing when the upgrade starts.

To open your domain file in Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with AppleScript Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.

  • Itunes won't open, even after reintallation

itunes just quit working.  I uninstalled, shut down the PC, then reinstalled.  It all looks good during installation...the wizard works fine, but when you try to launch you get nothing.  It won't open from the shortcut on the desktop, or the program list.  I don't seem to have any problems with any of the other programs on the PC...just itunes.  I've googled the problem and tried those suggestions.  Thanks for any help.

Update... so i backed up files from three folders shown below:
    'User'/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/
    'User'/AppData/Local/Apple Computer/
'User'/Music/iTunes/(all files except music and app folders)
Then I uninstalled iTunes & Quicktime
    Restarted Machine
Reinstalled iTunes (which reinstalls Quicktime as well)
Opend iTunes to make sure it worked (it did), then closed it.
Copied all of the original files back over to their original locations.
    Restarted iTunes
Everything appears to be back to normal (iPhone sync works properly as well)
Hope this helps for anyone else seeking an answer!

  • ITunes on Windows 7 won't work even after reinstall.

I've got a friends Windows 7 PC here.
iTunes has gone AWOL.  It keeps asking for permission to makes changes and then won't start but the process is running in task manager (and the icon has that blue and yellow shield indicating it requires elevated priviliges).
I couldn't use the built in uninstaller as it just sits there doing nothing when I open it saying "preparing to uninstall" or something, so I used Revo Uninstaller to uninstall it and any other Apple software I could see on the computer.
And then downloaded and reinstalled it.  Exact same problem.  Asks for permission to make changes and
Someone suggested disabling "Apple Push" in MSCONFIG but that hasn't made any difference either.  Apparently that has to do with a process called APSDaemon.exe
Any suggestions?  I really don't want to have to backup his whole computer and reinstall Windows and everything else for him from scratch.

    Same problem here.
I am at witts end. I have uninstalled EVERYTHING labeled APPLE on my pc and restarted and reinstalled and I have the exact same problems.
*Double Click* to open iTunes. *Wait* ... Nothing Happens. *Open* Task Manager. Itunes.exe *32 is running under Processes.
Nothing is visible. Most of the time I can't even end the itunes process. I have to open up the comand prompt and type TASKKILL /IM /itunes.exe just to close it.
Is a windows reboot the only option? I have followed all of those links the support team keeps posting and to no avail.

  • Adobe reader won't open, even after re-download

adobe reader won't open because of error - NEED PDF READER NOW!!!!!!!!!

The reason is Adobe has not updated there software yet to play well with Mavericks. The fault is of course with the Adobe Software. I suggest you go to there web site and see if they have a fix yet for there software, If not all you can do is continue to check back with them or get on there fourms and see what others have to say about this same issue.

All security/firewall/virus protection etc is allowing itunes

    PLEASE HELP!!
I am so frustrated and about to just give up and deal with the fact I won't have iTunes again

    Hi Kacey,
I suspect that somewhere in all of this your iTunes library database got removed. Here is my usual approach...
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder (inside your main iTunes folder) should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
If I've misunderstood the situation please provide more details and I will do my best to help.

  • ITunes won't open, even after complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes/Qktime

    Hello
This morning iTunes started refusing to open. When opened it bounces twice and then closes.
Strange, because I didn;t just update. It worked fine after my last update and up until the present. I'm not sure but it could have started happening after I plugged in my iPod Touch 16gb 2.0. I did that sometime this morning.
I did a complete uninstall/reinstall of both Itunes and Quicktime, and I also uninstalled Flip to Mac as I read here it could be related. Restarted my computer many times. Now, same problem, iTunes won't start.
I live in noisy Barcelona and i'm going crazy without tunes...

  • Itunes constantly crashes and won't open even efter removal and re-install.

It states "AppCrash" as the reason. I've removed all the hardware, and reinstalled it just to have itunes quickly open upon startup, immediately close again and state it was an app crash.

Thank you all for your input and sympathy! I did reset the PRAM before taking it in on Sunday, but that unfortunately didn't do it. I also tried the erase-then-install route, but the machine only gets through varying degrees of the install before crashing.
I hauled it up to the Apple Store (150 mi. RT, but great guys/fast service) who also believed it was RAM, swapped out the apparently 3rd party RAM (who would think you would have to specify APPLE RAM to an Apple Specialist/Reseller?!). Turns out it still crashes, so back I went on Monday. It's now waiting on a logic board and processor.
I've always bought direct from Apple before, but tried to save a few $ this time. Needless to say, those saved $ have been spent several times over in time and mileage, some of which would have been spent regardless of where the machine came from. However, had I bought direct, I could probably get a new machine more quickly at the store. If the machine isn't running wthin a week I will send it back west for an exchange. Thank you again. I'll follow up here when this is resolved.

  • ITUNES 7 Still won't open, even after trying solutions from other topics

I have tried the following things:
    Uninstall/Reinstall
    Quicktime as a stand alone
    Virus protection off
Trying to start Itunes with a CD
    System Reboot.
None of these things have worked. Can anyone help me.

    Okay,
    I HAVE FOUND A WORKAROUND
This is definitely not a solution, and Apple needs to address this problem immediately, but this will do it until they pull the proverbial lead out of their proverbial apple-holes...
Right-click on the iTunes shortcut, and select "Run As"
Run it as a different user, such as Administrator. If you do not have any other users, go to Control Panel > Users and make a new user.
If you run it as a different user, it seems to work fine...
Note: The iTunes Music Library is different per user, so you may need to import all of your music again

  • ITunes 10.2.2 won't run, even after reinstalling it and the latest Snow Leopart update... what can I do?

    Hello,
I'm using a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.6.7. I've just updated iTunes to the latest version 10.2.2 but it keeps quitting unexpectedly upon opening it. I've tried deleting the Genius information, reinstalling it, as well as even reinstalling the latest Snow Leopard update but nothing seems to work. What can I do?
Thanks in advance for any help, and let me know if there are any questions.

    sorry i get this error:

  • I just got my internet turned back on, and planned on updating my iPod to ios 5. However, when I plugged it in and opened iTunes, iTunes did not show it under devices, even after I updated iTunes to 10.6. It's like it isn't connected.

My iPod says it is carging, but iTunes doesn't say it is. It doesn't even have a devices category on the sidebar.

When I plug it in, it tells me, " iTunes has detected an iPod in Recovery Mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." I don't have an option to back it up, only to restore it. I'm going to be annoyed if it erases everything, it never told me it would do this if I updated....

  • Firefox states it is already running yet won't open even after I uninstalled and reinstalled

    Hi,
I was having problems with Mozilla when I'd go to Facebook it would show the page but within seconds I would get check6 (can't remember the rest) error page.
So I went to help, restart Firefox. It was at this for about an hour and I knew there was a problem so chose to end process in task manager.
Since then I haven't been able to open Firefox:
"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system".
I uninstalled Firefox using Revo Uninstaller and deleted all leftover files, restarted my computer and installed Firefox, but the problem still remains.
I tried looking through previous questions and noticed I do no have a profile folder which may be needed to delete a lock file....
    Any help much appreciated! thanks

I had this problem yesterday, actually. You can solve it, but you will lose all firefox data you didn't back up. Then again, because you already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I assume this isn't an issue.
Assuming you've installed windows on the C drive:
    Go to C://Users/yourname/AppData
If you cant find it, go to your display settings (I hope I translated this correct; I use the Dutch version of Windows) and make sure that hidden files and filders are not being... well, hidden. Shocking plottwist, I know.
If all goes well, you should now see three folders named Local, Localrow and Roaming.
Now go to Roaming > Mozilla > Firefox and delete everything thats in there. Now you have an empty FireFox folder, which will force Firefox to start up as if it was never installed before.
    Done! :)
P.S. Now that you have a fresh new install, save yourself a lot of future pain and install [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/xmarks-sync Xmarks] for your bookmarks and [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/lastpass-password-manager LastPass] for your passwords. These add-ons will keep your data safely on their servers, where it is yours to backup and download anywhere in the world.
Also, if you have about three milion add-ons and personas/themes and you don't want to hunt hem down again everytime you reïnstall Windows or buy a new system, get [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/febe FEBE] to save a copy of them for you. And if you really want to backup like a pro, install [https://www.dropbox.com/ DropBox] (not an addon) and tell FEBE to store its files there, so you can still retrieve them if your house happens to burn down.
Xmarks, LastPass and FEBE: the holy trinity of Firefox backups :P
