ITunes 11.1.2 shuffle on by default?

Having just upgraded from 11.0.5 to 11.1.2, I find that when I play a podcast, iTunes it will automatically continue playing random podcasts even though I have NOT turned the shuffle feature on.
To disable the random shuffle feature I have to click on the shuffle icon which makes it light up blue.
What I can't understand is:
(1) Why I have to deliberately click this icon every time I run iTunes in order to disable shuffle when it wasn't like that before?
(2) Why is random shuffle DISABLED when the icon is lit up blue?
Is this a deliberate feature? If so, I will be sticking with 11.0.5
Alan

Solved it by rebuilding my library. Here is how it works (steps 7-10):
http://www.ehow.com/how_6185461_troubleshoot-itunes-not-launch.html
Took a good day for the 390,000 songs. Works like a charme now: faster than ever.
My library has been probably suffering from 10 years of upgrading.
I also purchased this piece of software to clean the library up:

  • HT1831 Can I listen to Itunes u on my shuffle?

I would like to at least listen to the Itunes U on my Shuffle? Is it possible? If so, How...Thanks

If the music videos are unprotected (no DRM), there is a command in the iTunes menu bar, under Advanced...  Create AAC Version.  Select a music video (or multiple videos) in the iTunes window, and use that command.  Note: If the music video is protected, the command will be grayed out.
You can change the encoder (AAC/MP3) and bit rate settings in iTunes preferences General tab.  Click the Import Settings button.  I recommend AAC Encoder at iTunes Plus (256 kbps), which is the default setting (and the same format used by the iTunes Store), but you can set it to create MP3 files instead.
Once you have the audio-only versions of the songs, you can sync them to the shuffle like any other song.
If the music videos are purchases from the iTunes Store (including free items), they are probably protected, so you can't do this conversion.  Audio-only songs no longer have DRM at the iTunes Store, but commercial video items, such as music videos, TV shows, and movies still do.

Problems with itunes 8 and ipod shuffle gen 2.
I recently upgraded from itunes 7 to itunes 8 on my windows XP PC. That's when i had issues syncing my 2nd gen shuffle.
When i try to drag songs directly on it, itunes says i can't
I made a playlist and use auto fill. But when I remove it from the dock, it's either not updated, or the new songs are at the bottom of the playlist when they are supposed to be up higher. I end up having to hit auto fill twice to make it sync correctly.

This is a well-known issue. Apple changed the internal file names used with iTunes 8, which makes the ordering on 2nd generation Shuffles behave differently. There is no good workaround, apart from moving the files with a hand-crafted AppleScript program.
Apple has been silent on the issue, so nobody knows if we'll ever have a fix for it or not.

Is there any way of undoing a shuffle? The CDs I downloaded to iTunes have all been shuffled into individual 'songs'. As most of these are classical and folk, it is inappropriate to have them separated into songs that play any old time (ie, a movement from Beethoven's 5th symphony followed by a folk song followed by one excerpt from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, etc. Can I restore them all to the original albums and make sure the shuffle doesn't happen again?
    Thanks!

Thanks! That has worked, but only partially - there are still some Beethovens mixed in with the Vivaldis. I'm sure I installed these as total albums.
I have noticed that too from time to time, I generally move the files into the correct folder and fix the index in itunes when one won't open, occasionally.

  • ITunes music folder keeps reverting back to default

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it: I just moved my music library to a new hard drive, following the Apple instructions on "moving the iTunes music folder" (i.e. changing the iTunes music folder location on the advanced tab in preferences, setting it up to copy files, and then consolidating the library). The move worked, but for some reason, whenever I exit iTunes and come back in, the iTunes music folder reverts back to the default (C:\Documents and Settings\default\My Documents\My Music). It doesn't announce it or anything, but when I go to add new music, it sends it there instead of the new drive. What am I missing on the transfer?

You might find this article helpful: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
It has the error range of 3000's which states
Errors 3000-3999 (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an old version of iTunes is installed, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see error 1004 above), or because of your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again. Error 3194 most likely indicates you do not have the latest version of iTunes installed Update to the latest version of iTunes.

  • How can I make iTunes sort on the first word by default, even though that word is "The" or "A"?

How can I make iTunes sort on the first word by default, even though that word is "The" or "A"?
I myself think that (for instance) "A tribe called Quest" should be sorted under "A", not "T".
Now I can edit the sort options manually per track and/or per selection, but I would really like to just kill this "iTunes-knows-how-you-should-sort"-feature in iTunes.
Anyone any suggestion on how to do that?
    Thanks

Here is a modified version of one of Doug's Scripts. My modification was to add Sort Name to the list of tags that could be changed. I tried it on a single track and it worked. I recommend backing up your library first. Select the tracks you want to change (or all tracks) and run the script from the Applescript Editor.  If it works as intended, save it so you can apply it to newly imported tracks.  And, yes, I know this isn't the exact answer to your question, you want to change a preference setting in iTunes (if there is such a setting).
Original script can be forund at http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=thistagthattag
Modified script is below. Start up Applescript Editor, paste it into a new window.  Start up iTunes and select the tracks to modify.  Click Run in the Applescript Editor.  Follow the instructions.

  • ITunes doesn't recognise iPod as the default player for audio files.

A few weeks ago my husband completely re-installed our laptop, without properly looking at how to backup my iPod touch. Everything was lost and I have had to start again, however the system still comes up with this message each time I plug the iPod in:
iTunes has detected this is not the default player for audio files. Would you like to go to the Default Program Control Panel to fix this.
I go to the Control Panel, but have no idea what to do.
    Can anyone please help me?
I have not upgraded to version (4.0)
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Geordie81,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Are you sure it wasn't referring to making iTunes the default application for audio files as described in this Apple support document? Worth a shot anyways.

  • ITunes Won't Stop Shuffling!

I have the latest desktop version of iTunes (11.1.3 (8) ) and I'm running Mac OS X 10.8.5.  For the last couple of months (I can't remember which update), iTunes has been shuffling within albums any time I play music.  It's very frustrating.  I have shuffle turned off.  If I turn it on, I can shuffle within Artist, Playlist, etc. - as it is supposed to do.  However, I can't turn it off!  Does anyone have any suggestions?
(In the "Control" menu, it's off - it Reads "Turn On Shuffle")
(The little shuffle icon is grey, not blue)

I'm not sure regarding OSX 10.8 + as I still run production machines on 10.6.8 but, I still have the same itunes version apperantly as you do through updates.
I noticed the same problems with shuffle not turning off but, after some thought I realized I had my mobile phone plugged in recharging on the computer. I also had shuffle turnrd off in iTunes and songs continued to shuffle! SMH
I did some quick testing and found:
1: When I ahut down iTunes, unpluged the mobile phone (running IOS btw), restarted iTunes there was no shuffle of songs! Yea!
2: I then looked at the iphone and where they used to have turn shuffle on or off of course wasnt there any more, only thing was that they had shake to shuffle in the music settings. I flipped the switch, plugged the iphone back in and restarted iTunes. Guess what???? No songs shuffled within iTunes! Hurray!
So apperantly it seems iTunes may be over ridden by device settings if their plugged in at the same time while trying to play ones iTunes..... smh
Check to see if this might be your scenario or not. I think I had even tried to go into the iTunes preferences or plist a while back and turn the code from true to off but that was a while ago also and it did not work anyway when I have a mobile device plugged in for recharging while iTunes was open.

  • I want to download my itunes library to my shuffle. can't seem to figure out how to do this. can you help me?

I want to download my itunes library to my shuffle. Can't seem to figure out how to do this. Can anybody help?

You probably need to set up automatic syncing.  Select the shuffle in iTunes.  You see a row of "tabs" (buttons) starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the iPod's Music tab, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the shuffle.
Check the box for Sync Music.  If your iTunes music library is small enough to fit on the shuffle, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Then click Apply.
Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres, then select (checkmark) the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres that you want on the shuffle, from the lists below.
Here's one convenient way to set it up.  In your iTunes library, create a new regular playlist; call it something like "iPod Songs" (or whatever you want).  From your iTunes music library, load that iPod Songs playlist with ALL the songs you want on the shuffle.  On the shuffle's Music tab, find and checkmark that iPod Songs playlist (under Playlists).  When you click Apply, those songs sync to the shuffle.  Going forward, to update songs on the shuffle, just update that iPod Songs playlist in iTunes (add and/or remove songs) and then connect your shuffle.  iTunes automatically updates the shuffle with the same changes.  If the iPod is already connected, click the Sync button to update the iPod.
If you have any specific question, please post back.

  • ¿What I have to do to avoid or prevent iTunes to auto configurate or autoselect as default media player each time I open it or connect my iPod?.

    Hello,
For years I use in my computer Windows Media Player and/or Media Player Classic to play my music and video files and I know quite well all their operation options. My problem is that since I install the iTunes program, mainly for servicing my iPod Touch, every time I connect my iPod to the PC or open iTunes, the iTunes program without any warning or authorization auto configurate as default media player overriding my Windows and Classic Media players, so each time  I have to open iTunes and go to the Advanced Preferences Menu and unselect the option " Use iTunes as the default audio application" so to be able to use my favorite media players.
My question is: ¿What I have to do to avoid or prevent iTunes to auto configurate or autoselect as default media player or override my favorite media players, each time I open it or connect my iPod?
