ITunes 11.1.2 stability?

Any ideas why iTunes 11.1.2 opens a window and then snaps it shut when using the Add To Library option?
Also tries to open a window when using iTunes Preferences>Advanced>iTunes Meda folder location, then snaps the window shut and crashes throwing an error report.

I have the same issue.  If I open up the Equalizer and select any setting (including the one that is already checkmarked), the sound corrects itself.  However, it goes right back to crappy when a new song comes on.

  • Itunes 11 Starts Automatically on Headphone Jack

Hello. I have been reading the forums and it appears that there has never been a conclusive resolution to the problem I am facing for all versions of Itunes available since purchase of my Late 2011 Macbook Pro 13" Laptop.
    Description of Problem
Itunes autostarts on any twisting of the input jack of any and all sets of headphones (microphone combo, or audio out only) plugged into the computer. Additionally, any unplugging, replugging, slight brushing up against, or any activity that would produce any feedback in the jack at all, produces this undesired effect.
    Attempted Solutions
I have tried various methods of removing this unwanted behavior from itunes to no avail. Please note Itunes is the only software that produces this unwanted effect.
    1. Unclick any syncing features, download features, accessibility features etc., in itunes that would produce this undesired effect.
    2. Double and triple check all ancillary programs running that would have an adverse effect on the functionality of itunes. None present.
    3. Delete all .plist files and reboot. No change.
    4. Delete ituneshelper. No change.
    Conclusion
I have contemplated deleting itunes all together as this error is so annoying, being that I use my computer for music creation. The only reason I have not removed itunes all together is stability of system issues, and iphone updates.  At this point it is very frustrating to me that this bug has not been addressed by any actual apple developer directly.  The combined support of these communities is very much appreciated, however, as there has been no confirmed solution posted a direct response from an apple support agent would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Andy

Well, I guess this can be considered a solution. I downloaded Appcleaner app at: http://www.freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/ and then proceeded to delete ITUNES which is a terrible app anyway when compared with Spotify. No more autostart Itunes on iphone jack. Problem solved.

  • ITunes 10.5 optimization suggestions?

Hi all. I am currently using Windows 7 X64 with service pack 1. My system uses an AMD X6 3.2Ghz processor, with 8GB of RAM, a 7200rpm 1TB hard drive, and an NVIDIA 460GTX 1GB video card. I am currently using the latest version of both iTunes, as well as Quicktime.
I have found that many times when I go to the apps section of my library, the icons appear blank (missing the icon with just a grey icon in its place). Likewise, many times when I go to the music section, the CD covers show up, but iTunes itself hangs quite a bit.
I've already defragged my hard drive. I've tried reinstalling iTunes and Quicktime. I've already cleaned ous junk system files using both the system cleaner, as well as CCleaner. I'm using a very efficient anti-virus/anti-spyware app, which is already set to ignore iTunes entirely. I've already turned off Genius, and Home Sharing. I've also got it set to not look for Air speakers. I've also tried a variety of different viewing types, with the library only showing essential information.
Does anyone have any additional suggestions to both speed up, but also remove the lag and missing icons issues I'm dealing with? I have a rather big library of music as well apps/games. I know that puts some stress on my system, but with the processor I have, with htat much RAM, and that top of the line gaming video card, shouldn't iTunes run at incredible speed? I don't understand what is causing the hang-ups and lag, much less the cause of the frequent missing icons.
I realize it is quite likely Apple would prefer we are all using Apple computers, but few of us can afford the cost of one. Sadly, it almost seems like iTunes in Windows is an afterthought with little real interest. There are so many add-ons to enhance and improve iTunes with OS X, yet there are almost none for Windows. Likewise, as a side note: Since it is completely free, and virtually free of any licensing requirements or cost, it amazes me that Apple has not released any version of either Quicktime or iTunes for Linux. I would honestly prefer to use the latest version on Ubuntu, instead of Windows. Sadly, until a Linux version of both that are officially released and supported, it leaves me stuck with Windows.
Any tips, or suggestions on how to enhance and improve iTunes performance would be grealy appreciated. As I understand it, since I use both an iPhone, and iPad with both on iOS 5.0.1, that going back to any earlier version of iTunes that offered more stability and speed isn't really possible.

Yeah, I noticed this too and submitted to an inquiry to iConcertcal support. I don't expect anything to come of it either - since even their last update about it not working 10.4 was quick to point out that their iPhone app still worked fine. Great, thanks. You mean I can pay you $3 and only be able to use it on my iPhone but not on my computer? Where do I sign?!

  • Tethering in uk, USB no longer works with iPhone

After getting my iPhone to tether with MacBook pro (not very well with orange I might add) my iphone no longer charges with USB and mac, iphoto nor iTunes sync anymore with iPhone? Does anyone have any idea why this could be the case?
Any ideas on speeding it up would also help? Thanks ian

Turn tethering OFF on your phone before connection with cable to your mac for sync and updates etc...
I too had had issues with tethering both USB and Bluetooth to an Orange Uk iPhone however having done some tests the problems appear to be bugs in Bluetooth stack.
Have today updated one of my MacPro and this little old powerbook G4 to the latest itunes and performance and stability has notably improved when tethering over Bluetooth.
Its still not perfect but it now grabs the connection after two attempts rather six or seven !
I am writing this on a powerbook G4 with just USB 1.1 and Bluetooth 1.0 so compatibility has improved for sure.

  • Is it me or old apps don't work with IOS 5.0 ?

    I everyone
In an attempt to install IOS 5 , iI realized tha none of the apps could start, only native apps like itunes and mail could work.
I had to return to IOS 4.3 to use apps I open everyday.
Do we need to wait for developpers to update their apps to current IOS 5.0?
    Thanks
    D

    @ Meg
Thanks for the Tip I'll try that out. I just hope that my most used app will work on IOS 5 , although I didn't see the latest update on Itune .
    @Allan
For stability reason, I didn't hack or jailbreak the the phone. I managed to go back to the previous IOS setting the phone in "safemode" and installed IOS 4, that was it.
    I'll post back once installed
    Thanks

  • Post-Kernel Panic: Various questions on iTunes, mail, stability, help!

I recently experienced a Kernel Panic on my Macbook Pro from late 2010 (2.53 ghz, 4 gb ram, 500 gb OS X snow leopard etc).
First, a quick overview of the Kernel Panic process:
I had a lot of stuff running simultaneously, and the system started hanging for several minutes. I then made a manual shutdown by pressing the power button, and when I started it up again, I entered the wonderful realm of Kernel Panic.
Extended hardware test found nothing wrong.
Disk Utility told me there were a corrupt sibling file, as well as about three corrupt record files (I think they were called that - it looked pretty generic, but unfortunately I didn't write anything down).
I couldn't start in safe mode, a PRAM boot didn't do anything, nothing worked. I couldn't reinstall OS X, as I got a message saying there couldn't be written to my harddisk.
I didn't have any Time Machine backup, so a very friendly collague of mine took my MPB apart, and in short transferred the contents of my harddisk onto an external harddisk. I then formatted my harddrive, reinstalled OS X, and am now in the process of putting everything back in place, as well as I can. But I have a bunch of questions and observations I'm a little worried about, and I very much hope someone can help me.
It must be mentioned that I haven't taken the MBP online again yet; I am currently still at work and am not able to get my Mac online on the work network (it's locked). Therefore there are some OS X updates I haven't reinstalled yet.
    - I have managed to rebuild all my subfolders in the default Mail program; however, my Inbox is nowhere to be found on the external harddrive, and I can't seem to find the location of my new inbox anywhere. Is it eternally lost, or can I restore it? My extemely important mails are saved (software licenses etc), but there were quite a few mails in my inbox that are important as well and i'd like to get them back.
    - ITunes seem to have some issues with handling the import of my entire music/podcast archive (about 120 GB). If I select more than approx. 15 gb to import, it starts hanging, and I have to force quit it and retry with a smaller chunk. Is this normal, or should I be worried?
Note: I did notice that a couple of the folders in the salvaged iTunes archive were completely empty - there's only a picture of a blank piece of paper next to it, instead of a folder icon, and the size is 0 kb. I can just re-rip the music to my library, but I am a little suspicious of this.
    - More iTunes. One of the times I force-quit it and then tried to reopen it, I got an error message saying that I couldn't open the iTunes application, because the files were locked, or the archives were locked, or something along those lines. I got quite a scare, but after restarting the mac, iTunes opened as it should. Again, should I be worried? Is this normal?
    - I am considering getting a new harddisk for the MBP, a Seagate Momentus XT 500 gb, as I am a little wary of the default harddisk after this. I figure that since I haven't put anything back in place yet, it would be the same if I had to format and reinstall OS X once more. The damage has already been done, so to speak. Would this be a good idea, or is it unneccessary? (I have ordered a RAM upgrade, so i'll be running with 8gb instead of the default 4).
    - Why did this Kernel Panic happen? I know I made a force shutdown, but why did it go so wrong? I would like to know what caused it, so I can prevent it. Couldn't it handle the extensive simultaneous processes I was putting it through (my gargantuan iTunes library was running, I was watching a video, had many tabs open in Chrome, it was hot etc)? Will the planned RAM upgrade fix the issue? Is there something fishy about my harddrive?
I hope someone will take the time to answer my many questions, and I am very grateful for any help.

The most important thing for you to learn from the experience is that you'll inevitably lose all your data if you don't make backups. Regard that as a certainty, not a risk. Do no more work with the computer until you have a backup solution in place.
The second point is that your hard drive has failed and you shouldn't continue to use it. Shut down the computer now and don't start it again until the drive has been replaced.
For future reference, familiarize yourself with FireWire target mode:
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
This mode can be used to access the internal storage device of a Mac without booting it.
Some of your files have apparently been lost or corrupted. If you don't have backups, they're almost certainly gone forever. It's possible to attempt data recovery on a failed drive, but the more you use it, the less the chance of success. I have no experience in this area.
As for why the kernel panic happened, that's impossible to say without a panic log, but it was most likely caused by the drive failure.

  • ZoneAlarm Firewall blocks iTunes - iPhone stability.

I spent HOURS with (very helpful) iPhone tech help trying to stabilize my iTunes, which I needed for my new iPhone, on my Vista PC. Sometimes iTunes would hang the PC, sometimes not recognize the iPhone, sometimes work, and then often after working would freeze iTunes, requiring a Re-Boot. I have a very clean PC - no virus issues - and FINALLY gained immediate success when I uninstalled ZONEALARM FREE FIREWALL and then used PC TOOLS FREE FIREWALL. That worked. I've tried to post this on ZoneAlarm Forum, but for some reason, can't get thru on that forum. Other Windows folks with similar problems might appreciate my posting here.

Does anyone have a solution to this that doesn't involve completely disabling ZoneAlarm? How to let iTunes through so it can work with the phone (ie. remote app, etc.)
    Thanks

  • Stability of iTune WIFI Sync

I am frustrating on Wifi Sync between IOS 7.1.2 and 11.2.2.3.
The senerio is, it is happy to connect from IOS to iTune initially , but while you try to add or remove some app through itune, then the connection will be lost. And I tried to use ping command to ping the network between phone and computer ,it connects well without any drop.
The problem is , it is quite hard to retrieve the Wifi Sync unless you restart the Apple mobile service. It's not good for customer experience.
I hope Apple would spend some time to improve the user experience on wifi sync between iTune and IOS.

  • Various 4G / 5G stability problems and now my iPod is USB 1.1 only!

    Hi,
I bought a brand new iPod a week or two ago and it worked fine for one sync. Then the battery was running low (because I'd been using it!) so I plugged it in and iTunes synced automatically and the battery charged. after the sync I hit "eject" in iTunes so that the battery would just charge.
I returned to find that the iPod was still mounted! Very strange. I ejected again..... and it seems that what was happening was when the iPod was ejected it simply rebooted and when it came back up was mounted automatically again!
I ejected and unplugged the iPod and it was no longer stable - I would get to the menu and almost to play a song and it would reset. It seemed like my speed was the limiting factor (i.e. the iPod would only stay up for n seconds), rather than it crashing because I tried a particular function.
I saw this unstable behaviour with my old iPod (4G, firewire on this same machine) too where I had to reflash it to get it working again reliably.
So, I reflash the (new) device with the iPod Updater software downloaded for me by Software Update. It resets, and all seems well, with the rather catastrophic exception that now the iPod is only recognised as a USB 1.1 device according to System Profiler! The transfer speed is very very slow.
This is really a bit of a showstopper for my user experience. I have tried:
    - Resetting my computer
    - Changing the cable (I have two USB2.0 cables and 1 USB2.0/Firewire cable which I have tried all of)
    - Changing USB ports (including taking ALL my USB devices away and plugging the iPod directly into the back of the desktop machine)
    - Reflashing the iPod again
    I have NOT tried:
    - re-downloading the iPod Updater from Apple and using that (I'm downloading it now)
    So.... the questions are:
    - Has the firmware updater somehow made my iPod appear to be a USB1.1 device?
    - Or is this a hardware fault and I need to return the iPod to be fixed?
    - Is this stability problem a commonly observed one?
    - If so what can I do to avoid it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Neil.

  • (ios5 ipad bugs)I can't get changes of album art, artist, album and other tags to show up in the iPad music player, but they show up correctly in the iTunes device view. Certain random songs do not sync correctly.   Wifi sync hasn't worked yet.

(ios5 ipad bugs)I can't get changes of album art, artist, album and other tags to show up in the iPad music player, but they show up correctly in the iTunes device view. Certain random songs do not sync correctly.   Wifi sync hasn't worked yet.
I mostly use technology for education and professional audiovisuals and lights.
I don't sync  music because I use music from at least 4 different computers. (manually mange music)
I use my iPad to play performance tracks for church and a local gospel group out of our church, Won4Christ.
I chose to buy the iPad because the laptop of one of the group members (dellxps running iTunes) was randomly losing and mixing up music and I wanted a more stable option that was bigger than my iPod touch.
I tried to add some data to music libraries that I previously added to my iPad, but the data only shows up when looking at the device in iTunes.
Wifi sync has not worked on either my laptop or desktop ( both running windows 7 enterprise 64 and newest iTunes) not really a big issue, but very annoying
When browsing through library playlist albums on the iPad, random artwork shows up on playlists with no artwork that you touch while dragging, and it does not go away until you change to another navigation tab and back.
Random songs out of hundreds that I added showed up in iTunes grayed out with a sync circle beside them.  Those songs would play back okay on the iPad but were unplayable through the iTunes device view.  I had to delete the songs manually through the library along with the playlist and add them again.
These seem to be major stability bugs in the "new" music app and iTunes.  My only option right now seems to be to delete the songs that I want to change and re-add them with the changes already applied rather than changing the id3 tags and artwork on the existing music. I hope apple will release updates to resolve these issues.
Thank you for actually making it to the end of this manuscript of annoyances.

Just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions.

  • The iTunes Store IS OUT TO GET YOU.

I just finished watching the 2nd season of Lost, and I thought to myself, "Gee, it sure would be nice to catch the first few episodes of the current season, so that I could watch along with the rest of the new episodes."
And of course, I use iTunes (although I've never used the store before), so I knew I had access at my fingertips. I set up a new account, eager to get to the episodes, and downloaded episode number one. The file was going to take a couple of minutes, so I checked my email.
Suddenly, the iTunes window disappeared from behind my email program. "What the...?"
Check the dock for confirmation -- yep. It's crashed. Gone. Not even the courtesy of an error message. I've been abandoned. I restart iTunes and sure enough, my Lost episode is gone. Check my downloads -- iTunes SAYS it downloaded just fine. And that I'll be charged accordingly. I scour my hard drive for anything resembling a video file that might be recoverable. Nada. Zip. Nothing.
Now, 1.99... not the end of the world. I'm more upset about the episode -- and since I'm not allowed to download it again unless I pay for it once more -- well. I'm a firm believer in the "Fool me once..." philosophy. So I shoot off a nasty email to iTunes store support, and I begin rooting around for the place where I'm allowed to cancel my account -- no point in leaving my credit card information out there in cyberspace if there's no use in it, right?
Yeah. That was a long time ago. Still haven't found it. Either Apple has so effectively buried the iTunes store account cancellation website/hotline #/post address/CB handle that I cannot locate the tiniest shred of evidence that it even exists -- or it just doesn't exist.
Is this legal? If I have an account with a store and they have my personal information on file, including my credit card number, aren't I allowed to cancel that account and force them to remove my information from their records? I understand of course that they can keep the info until they verify the payment on services and products I've already purchased (although 'purchase' usually implies 'receipt of goods'). But I have no long-term commitment with Apple. All they are doing is putting me at risk of financial loss through identity theft. After all, my credit card number is longer and harder to guess than, say, my iTunes store password.
This is all very scary to me. I just want to go to Blockbuster and forget that the iTunes store even exists.
    powerbook 17   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Max,
I'm really sorry to hear that you've had a bad experience with iTunes. I've been using iTunes and Mac OS since 2003 and have had great luck. I mention this for a reason, though there are users that have been around longer than I, I've used os 10.2 - 10.4. That being said, I noticed that you're using 10.3.9 and I'm wondering why you haven't upgraded. You may have experienced an error the way you described because of the operation system you are using. I know that sounds far fetched, but actually, it's not. 10.3.8 was good but it had airport stability issues. Soon after it was patched with 10.3.9 and the whole system because solid all the way through. Now Apple builds software to support x number of years of hardware and creates software to function on x number of system versions; however, new versions of iTunes (for example) are going to take advantage or newer OS releases. I've been brave and kept current versions of iLife suites with current versions of OS X and everything has been solid as a rock, I promise. I would have presumed that it was related to Windows XP, which most extreme problems are, but you're on a PowerBook just as I am.
All of that aside, imagine the sheer volume of users on iTunes at any given point. Take all the Mac users in the US and then Expand that to Windows users too. Then expand that to several countries with both operating systems. (Want proof, look at everyone walking around with white earbuds.) I could imagine how it's hard to get a response so be a squeeky wheel because sooner or later you'll get some grease. I'm not trying to tell you, "tough," or anything of the nature. I feel bad that you are uncomfortable with iTunes. I assure you it's been great and I bet if you upgrade to 10.5 when it's released, you'll find less quarks. By the way, I've experienced less of "This app has unexpectedly quit" while using 10.4 that when using 10.3.
    Best of luck to you.
