ITunes 11.1.3.8 won't read contents of any device

Using Win8, iTunes won't read contents of any device. using 11.1.13.8
Have seen many fixes for it.
Need help. Newer computer with new install. New iPhone and iPad Retna
Please help if you can.
Thanks

What do you mean "iTunes won't read contents"?
What specifically is happening?
Was the ENTIRE iTunes folder copied from the old computer to the new computer?  iDevices are not and have never been backup devices or a way to move content to a new computer.

  • Won't read my A/V device when I open up Final Cut HD

I had been using Final Cut Express for a while and decided to upgrade to final cut pro. I now am running Final Cut Pro HD. When I go to open a project, it will not read my Firewire connection to my DVX100 panasonic camcorder. We tried with a canon xl and it still won't read the A/V device. I've connected some external harddrives to the firewire ports and they all seem to work. So I don't know why final cut says the Firewire connection is missing. Can some please help fast.

I've found an easier way, just go to settings>general>usage>music. Then swipe it and press delete, i think this deletes the database described above, then re-sync, this worked for me anyway. Good luck, you need it with Apple software.
I don't have a large library of music on my iPhone 4s since I've only had it since Oct 2012, but since the update to iTunes 11 in early December, my album artwork has been all messed up.  Everytime I would try to add new music, it would assign the wrong album artwork to anything new coming in.  And in addition to that, it would also mess up album artwork of music already on my phone.  Everything looked correct in iTunes, but on my phone, not so much.  After trying to unsynch, then synching again, my frustration level was at an all-time high. This problem seems to be everywhere online, but no concrete solution for everyone.
I finally came across your simple solution (at least for me because of my small inventory of music) of just deleting all the music through the settings, and then re-synching to add back my music.  Now all of the album artwork is correct again.  I'm almost afraid to add new music for fear the artwork will get mixed up all over again! I still think my issue is somehow connected to the iTunes 11 update because up until then I had no issues whatsoever. Anyway, thanks for an easy solution that worked for me.

Try a more recent version of my advice. The "for older video cards version" may work when the default version doesn't.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • ITunes ringtones: Bought one, but won't take password for any more??

Using iTunes 7.4.2, last night I bought my first ringtone. It went through without a hitch.
However, I tried again and again to preview another one, but it keeps prompting me for my password to the iTunes store.
All my other iTunes functions that require passwords work normally (buying music, checking my account), and I tried resetting my password using 'forgot password', and it still just keeps prompting me for a password.
If I deliberately enter in the wrong pw, it will tell me in red lettering that the username/pw is wrong. However, when I enter the correct one, I do not get this error message, yet the prompt keeps coming up.
This is using a G4 PB 10.4.10, and having repaired permissions, restarted, etc. Still getting issue.
    Any help appreciated!

If you follow baltwo's method, when finished, you must remember to return the startup disk to the volume you normally boot from. Otherwise, if the external isn't connected and turned on, the Mac won't find a volume to boot from.
Hmmm? IIRC, it the one selected in the Startup Disk prefPane isn't available, the OS will search all mounted volumes for one that will boot the machine. In that instance, that does the job, but doesn't reset the prefPane setting, so if you want to reset it to the internal, that's another step.

  • Capture window won't read time code any more

I haven't seen this exact problem listed on the board before --
When digitizing, the TC display in the upper right corner of the Log & Capture window wouldn't "turn over" from TC 07:59:29:29 to 8:00:00:00. No big deal, I set the out point slightly before hour 8, and the clips were captured without a problem.
Now, when trying to digitize the next tape, it doesn't see TC at all. The counter stays at 00:00:00:00. I've re-started the app and the computer, re-powered my "deck" (a Canon ZR100 camcorder), and re-seated the FW cable on both ends.
What can I do to get Log & Capture to read TC again?

Cleaning the tape heads didn't do anything, except cause me to notice that the ZR100 wasn't seeing the TC either. It can read TC for tape #24 and beyond (where the record TC was set back to the 0 hour).
Does this mean that perhaps the DP didn't record with LTC or VITC for tapes 8 through 23? Is there one type of TC that consumer camcorders won't see?
I promise to Google this, but I swear you guys are generally just as fast.

  • Itunes won't read cd text

I just got a new compouter and downloaded iTunes. When i insert mix cd's that I made on my last computer's iTunes and included cd text it won't read them. Any help so I don't have to manually update thousands of songs?

That particular script was designed to export data from an iTunes library, and then reimport it. The original idea was to use it to restore an old database from the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder, export selected data, restore the original database and then import the saved data. It would also be possible to use it to manipulate the exported data with something like Excel before reimporting. The script relies on the fact that each track can be identified by its unique ID which should normally remain the same as your library is updated over time. For your purpose matching track numbers within the selection of the tracks from a single CD would serve the same function if working one CD at a time. I can't offhand think how I would do automatic CD identification from within a larger database. I suspect MediaMonkey is the easiest way to go.

  • ITunes won't read ID3 tags that Windows sees

I recently switched my library over from a Mac laptop to a PC desktop. I have about 70 GB of perfectly organized music accumulated over years and years.
In the process, after I loaded some songs into iTunes (using the Keep My iTunes Folder Organized and all that stuff), I noticed that about 10 GB of music were without titles, artists, or album info, and just displayed the name of the MP3 file (so like instead of displaying 15 Step by Radiohead from In Rainbows, Track 1 it displayed "01 15 Step" in the Title column only).
The problem is that when I navigate to these songs in Windows Explorer, not only do I see all of the correct ID3 information, I see the extras like Album Art have loaded perfectly as well. I can play these songs in Windows Media Player and the ID3 info is perfect.
Does anyone know why iTunes won't read these ID3 tags or how to get iTunes to read them?

I am also having the same problem with about 200 of my MP3s. The tag info shows up perfectly using QuickLook on Leopard, but in iTunes I can't see any of the info. I have tried converting the ID3 tag version, revesing the unicode....nothing.
    Have you had any luck?

iTunes 10.7 does indeed work on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Do you mean you have Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard? If so, and you updated your iPhone 4S to iOS 6 on some other computer, then you may be out of luck synching to your 10.5.8 system, but you can get and try 10.6.3 here:

  • OS 10.7.5, iTunes 11.0.1, and iOS 6.0.2 ... everything is updated, but iTunes won't read iPhone 5 or iPad. Suggestions?

OS 10.7.5, iTunes 11.0.1, and iOS 6.0.2 ... everything is updated, but iTunes won't read iPhone 5 or iPad as devices. Syncing was easy before recent iTunes update. Suggestions?

Are you using the correct cables.  iPod cables look similar, but are not, as they are 1.1 USB cables, where your iPhone and iPad require a 2.0 USB cable.
Also, make sure you are not plugging your USB cable into a Hub or keyboard USB port, but one directly on the computer.
You may want to reset the USB ports, by resetting the SMC and PRAM

Upgraded to 11.3.1 now can't open library. Won't read. I have an older iMac (2008). Message I get is: cannot be read because was created by newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?' ... so I do and it fixes nothing. Same message again. OS is 10.6.8.

Thanks again. The option thing got me further than I've gotten thus far but when I went to choose a library I got that same message.
I do have options. I have 2 iMacs. I can still access my music through 'sharing' and download it onto my newer iMac. Trouble is it doesn't have a CD port and I like to burn. From what I've read about their new Mac portable CD/DVD drive, it's shaky at best. Incidentally, do you know of any drives that work well with Macs and cost less than $89.00?
I've figured out I can download a previous library from my old Mac then upload it from the new one which should put me back in business, but what do I do with the corrupt one that's there now, just trash it? Also, when I do the option key my other choice is Create A New Library. Should I do that and put the good previous library into it?
Thanks a million, I really appreciate your time. I'm an old fogey and computers often mystify me, especially when they lock me out of things for no apparent reason.
