Itunes 11.1 deleted almost all of my music! WHY?

After both updates (iTunes 11.1 and ios 7) everything was fine for a few days. Yesterday however I noticed my iPod was skipping songs as I had it on 'shuffle', most of them just wouldn't play. I tried selecting these songs from my iPod but the text was grey instead of the usual black colour. There were also squares next to these songs with circles around them.
When I got home I plugged in my iPod to my laptop, opened up iTunes and found exclamation marks with circles around them next to the songs that no longer play on my iPod. After ejecting my iPod I found that these songs don't even show up on my iPod anymore. They still show up on iTunes when the iPod is connected but they are still not playable.
These songs played perfectly fine the night before. I've had this iPod (5th Generation touch) for months and never had any problems. This is why I think it has something to do with either the ios 7 update, the iTunes 11.1 update or both.
I do not purchase music from iTunes. I buy CD's, download music using codes provided when I buy Vinyl records or download free music online.
The songs that don't play are seemingly random. Some albums are entirely gone but most still have a few playable songs from that album. I'm still hopeful that all my music is not gone because as I mentioned before they still show up on iTunes, they just aren't playable. Please help.

Mainly that you should always keep copies of all your media in your library, and back it all up. Managing an iPod via a selection of playlists is also, in my opinion, easier, and more powerful, than manual management. Should the device need restoring it is a simple matter to reselect which playlists should sync to it..

ITunes recently stopped locating almost ALL of my music files.

I've never had a problem with this until recently. When i go to play a song, an error message comes up that says, "The song 'name of song here' could not be used because the original file could not be located. Would you like to locate it?"
Then I go and locate it myself. All of my music is on a external hard drive but it hasn't been a problem until now, yet I haven't changed anything on iTunes.
Of the 1500 songs on iTunes, it plays 30. Very odd.
Any suggestions?

I noticed that your music is on an external hard drive. You didn't accidentally lose connection with it, did you? When the firewire plug on my old external drive started to die I got the same error.
If that's not the case, you may want to recreate your library.

Check for 'others' in iTunes against your iPhone.
Restore from a previous backup to reclaim some of it.

Syncing ipad resulted in deleting almost all aps, movies and music !

yesterday i wanted to sync my ipad (before upgrading my ipad to ios4) but my computer didn't recognize my ipad anymore. By means of online help i found that restarting the ipodservice (service running in the background on my XP computer) and a computer restart may resolve the problem, and it did! the ipad was recognized again and signaled that there were items that were not yet synced on my ipad. my previous syncs worked quite well and itunes is set at syncing all apps, some music and some photos.
However after i pressed sync in itunes, he started to sync AND DELETE almost all (75% of them, even ibooks) my apps i had on my ipad, including all movies, podcasts and music!!! I'm now left with some (seems random) apps and photos and no way to get them back as itunes also has the same set of apps (wonder how this happened!) unless by reinstalling them all again from the apple store (supposed i even know which apps are gone...).
Huge disappointment: i thougt my ipad was reliable, itunes for sure is NOT !!!

I encountered a similar problem, I was trying to copy some videos and one specific file wouldn't copy, it was arriving on the iPad with 0 bytes.
Here's some things I did... Eventually I got it on there:
Make sure the video file is successfully imported into iTunes (Can you play it from within iTunes?). It may be that the original file has moved and so it cannot be found - or did not import properly.
Try renaming the file to something shorter then reimporting to iTunes - this helps if it gets mixed up about the state of a specific file - as it effectively treats it as a new file.
Make sure there is enough space on the iPad (look at the size bar within iTunes before you sync). I had to delete a couple of other movies to make room.
After doing all these steps (especially the second one), for me I was able to get it synced successfully.

The ipod is not a backup/storage device. the sync is one way - computer to ipod. The exception is itunes purchases: File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer. Use your backup copy to put everything back.

Check your settings. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Are all of your Accounts that use Calendars have the Calendars turned on? Also, check under the Calendar part and make sure 'Sync Events' is set to 'All'.
Then go to your Calendar app, tap on 'Calendars' at the bottom, and make sure all Calendars are check marked.
Then, close out all the apps on your iPhone, and restart it. Open up the Calendar app.
Did your Calendar events reappear?

Good luck finding the solution. I have another posting https://discussions.apple.com/message/25145839#25145839 on this exact same issue, and that is after looking on my own for the solution on the web and on Apple's forum without any luck for a real solution. Having to RESET a device every time I need to clear out old messages from memory sounds to me like an intended pain from Apple to keep pushing iPhone users to purchase additional iCloud backup plans.

Is your library still present? You can upgrade iTunes, then on left hand side u should see purchased. Music that was purchased can be restored through phone and computer. Go to file & click transfer purchases from your iPhone. You may have to authorize the computer again.

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

When you are done with this issue, consider the computer back at the office may still
have access to your iTunes account, and it should be de-auhorized. You can do that
remotely, but be sure you carefully do not mess up your other computer iTunes libraries.

I have 3 iOS devices synced with iTunes apps library (OS X 10.10.2)
Can someone tell me how to make not only added but deleted apps be synced also? I mean I want an app deleted in iTunes library be deleted from any iOS devices synced with this library.

But it was working some time before! What and when has changed?
There was even a warning popup window something about "this application will be deleted from all the devices synced with this library"
Now there's opposite message - "This application will not be deleted from any device syncing with this account". Isn't it some kind of clue that there can be conrarily circumstances - when application IS deleted from ANY device synced with this computer?

After iTunes Crash Sync deleted nearly all apps on iPad

I´d recently problems with iTunes: By syncing with iPad and with iTunes Match my library crashed. It started a safe mode, and I´ve recognized that about 9.000 from my 24.000 songs have been lost. No greater problem, as I´ve iTunes Match. It needed quite a time, and the library was complete again. The lost 9.000 songs have not been added from the PC, but they are in the cloud and I can load them again.
My greater problem: What I didn´t recognize is that the apps were lost, too. There were no apps and no e-books in my iTunes.
And now the best: As I wanted to load my iPad iTunes started syncing and deleted nearly all my apps from my iPad. Only 29 apps remained. Why especially this 29 apps remained and not other 29 - I don´t know...
The re-installing of the apps is not the problem, too. But the game saves... all lost? Or will my cloud sync help?
And the restored library is now a second PC for my iTunes Match.
So it would be really great if anyone of you can help me with the following questions:
1. Why had my empty iTunes deleted all the apps on iPad and not the other way (full iPad saving backup on iTunes)?
2. How can I get my old iPad situation back? Can I anyway?
3. How can I deactivate an inactive PC from iTunes Match? (Deactivation is just possible for the actual library)
4. Can I restore my game saves when the apps do not offer iCloud sync?
5. And what will happen when my empty apps will sync with iCloud? Will the empty game saves delete the old ones?
6. And what will happen when I connect my iPhone and my iPod with power while iTunes is running? Will iTunes delete these apps, too?

I have this same issue, except that when I drag/drop apps from the Library, to my iPad, it doesn't seem to update the checkmarks in the Sync Apps section. Shouldn't it be done automatically when I add apps in itunes in this fashion? Since on the next sync, if I change anything, it'll ask me if I want them removed or I have to cancel it all.
Also, if I don't Sync Apps, will my data still be backed up? That is, if I need to restore my iPad, will my apps be restored as well as the backed up data?

I synced my Curve to my Outlook 2003 calendar two days ago, and it worked great. Then I added a few items to the calendar on my blackberry and tried to sync so those new entries would appear on my outlook calendar. I stupidly just clicked through and didn't read the pop up screens because I thought it would just work fine.
Somehow, this move deleted nearly all of my calendar entries on my Outlook, but all of the entries are still on my Blackberry calendar (over 1,000 entries). Now, I can't get them back on my Outlook calendar. I tried just syncing one way from device to Outlook and it looks like it's doing it, but then nothing shows up on Outlook.
What do I do?

In the Desktop Manager > Sync > Configuration, make sure the calendar options are set to override Outlook.
Set it also to notify you of the changes, so you will have to approve any changes.

How do i sync Itune accounts with out loosing all of my music on one account

I am a new Itunes account user and would like to sync with my mothers account because that is where all of my music is but i do not know how to sync two seperate accounts to do so. If you know how or have anny other way of helping please do so. Thank you

If it is purchased music, it will stay with her account. Purchased from the iTunes store. If the music is from stuff you or she ripped (imported from) cd's, that can be synced to your phone using iTunes.
