ITunes 11.3.1 doesn't recognize my iPhone but my computer does?

I just recently downloaded iTunes 11.3.1 to my laptop and I wanted to sync my music library onto my iPhone 4, but when I plug it in, only my computer recognizes it, not iTunes. I've tried about everything on the site and nothing's worked so far. I've tried plugging in a different device as well, and the same thing happened. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hi there piewhisperer,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

iTunes doesn't see my iPhone when I plug it in my computer but, my Computer does.  What do I do?

Your computer should recognize the Camera Roll only, as a digital camera. iTunes must recognize it for syncing and backup.

iTunes 10.5.1 doesn't recognize my iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1 (9A405) Laptop OS Windows XP. When I connect iPhone to laptop, iTunes sends me an alert:" This iPhone can't be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started". This started right after I have upgraded iTunes from 10.5 to 10.5.1. Please help !

Thanks for the hint ! I used the following link http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925.
    1. Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
    2. Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled
    3. Reinstall iTunes and related components
Had to remove all Apple related softwares and utilities, and re-install all back. iTunes recognizes my phone now ! Cheers !

    Symptoms
In rare circumstances, an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch may not be recognized in iTunes on Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard after the Mac is restarted. If you reinstall iTunes, your device may be recognized. However, restarting your Mac may result in the device not being recognized again.
Note: These steps do not apply to OS X Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Resolution
Follow the below steps to troubleshoot the issue.
Note: Some of these steps will require that you enter your Mac OS X user password. If you do not know your user's password, follow this article first.
Install all software updates. If you have an update available for an SDK (Software Development Kit), be sure these updates are also installed. Do this by clicking the Apple () menu, choosing Software Update, and following the on-screen instructions. If you need to download iTunes manually, you can download it here.
Disconnect the device and quit iTunes.
In Finder, click the Go menu and then choose Go to Folder. Enter the following location into the text field that appears:
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    Click Go.
Locate the file "com.apple.usbmuxd.plist~orig" and drag it to the Trash. (Do not move the similarly named "com.apple.usbmuxd.plist" file to the Trash.)
Restart your Mac, open iTunes, and connect your device. If your device shows up in iTunes, restart your Mac one more time and confirm the issue is still resolved.

  • ITunes 9.0.1 doesn't recognize my iPhone.

I loaded iTunes 9.0.1 on a Clone while my iPhone was connected to Clone . . . usually, I sync my iPhone to my MacBookPro. Now, my iPhone displays a picture of the connection cable, an arrow pointing to the CD disk labeled iTunes. When I connect the iPhone to the Clone, iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone! Any suggestions?

  • TS1363 iTunes recognizes my iPod but my computer does not.  Is there a solution for this?

When I plug my iPod Nano into my computer, iTunes recognizes it, but my computer does not so I am not able to sync it.  I have turned my iPod off before plugging it into my computer, but that doesn't seem to help.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I haven't had this issue until about 2 weeks ago and the only thing I've done within the last two weeks was upgrade to the latest iTunes.
    I appreciate your help!

I figured out why my iPod wouldn't sync.  I must have previously changed my "Sync Music" setting to "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres".  Once I changed that setting to "Entire music library", my iPod was able to sync successfully.

  • I downloaded the latest iTunes and now it doesn't recognize my iPhone

I downloaded the latest iTunes update and now it doesn't recognize my iPhone

Thank you so much for your reply! I ended up calling Apple Support. (My phone was still eligible for free support.) The person was very helpful and was able to help me resolve the problem. In my case, it involved deleting itunes and some other things from my PC computer and reinstalling them. Works perfectly now.

  • My iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone, but it does recognize my iPod

When I plug in my iPhone to my computer, the computer recognizes the device, but my iTunes no longer does.  As far as troubleshooting goes, I've restarted the phone, iTunes, and the computer.  I have also plugged in my iPhone to my another computer and it shows up on iTunes on the second computer.  The next thing I have read says to completely uninstall iTunes and reinstall, but I'd like to keep that as my last resort.  I did however plug in my iPod and my iTunes does recognize that.  If the problem was with iTunes itself, wouldn't it not recognize either device?  Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

It does so have the capabilities to be seen on your PC, I do it all the time to move my pictures from my phone to the PC and I have the iPhone 4s

  • ITunes does not recognize my ipad, but my computer does as a camera. I NEED TO FIX THIS TO UPGRADE.

How can I get itunes to recognize my ipad? I've gone through all the troubleshooting I could find at itunes and apple. I'm getting really frustrated and really want to update my pad...

iTunes would not recognize my iPad2 *after* I updated to iOS 5, which kept me from syncing all of the content that the update failed to transfer.  I read this suggestion somewhere and it worked for me:
    1.  Hold down the home button and the sleep/wake (power) button at the same time for 10 seconds.  Ignore the red power-off slider if it appears.
    2.  Release the sleep/wake (power) button but continue to hold the home button down for 15 seconds longer.
    3.  The iPad will go black.
    4.  With iTunes open, connect the iPad to your computer with USB cable.
    5.  The Apple log should appear on your iPad.
    6.  iTunes may take a few seconds to recognize the iPad, but it should do so eventually.
    7.  You may see the beachball before iTunes recognizes the iPad, but don't give up and don't force quit unless it goes on for several minutes.
This may not work for you, but it's worth a try.

  • ITunes doesn't recognise my iPhone but my PC does

I've just updated iTunes but when I connect my iPhone 3GS, iTunes doesn't recognise it but my laptop does. Does anyone know why and what to do to correct it?

Typical, no one has answered your question.
It happened to me & now again. Last time I found my computer had a virus & after I connect up to ITunes it was working slower then the next time I connected ITunes wouldnt reconise my phone, then the nes time I did it the computer or ITunes shut down my phone & I couldnt turn it on.
My solution: Either roll back or reformat your computer.

  • ITunes doesn't recognize my iPod but my laptop does

I'm having a problem with my ipod touch and I can't seem to find anyone with the same problem. About a month ago, I updated itunes after not updating it for a couple months.
The same day I was cleaning my computer, so I was unninstalling some programs I never use, the thing is I must have deleted one I didn't had to, because from that day on when I connect my ipod or any apple device to my computer, my laptop recognizes it, but itunes doesn't. So I haven´t been able to add any music or videos to my ipod in nearly two months... I tried unninstalling and installing itunes again and again and with different versions to see if my ipod wasn't compatible with the version I had updated but that wasn't the case, I have tried everything I can find on the internet but nothing seems to fix my problem.
    Is there any

    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - Then do the other actions of:

paying special attention to item #5
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

iTunes does not use the .xml it uses the .itl
If you are sure your old library file migrated across (does the file size and modification dates suggest it has?) start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and guide it to the .itl file to get it to use that one.

    HELP HELP

To confirm, your existing mail client isn't communicating with your existing and remote mail services at Dreamhost? Which mail client are you using (Apple mail?), and how is mail on the client set up?
It would initially seem that your client is still referencing the server, either for its inbound or outbound mail. (And I'm not sure how unplugging the server helps here, unless there's some sort of a configuration issue, or a duplicate network address or such.) This would usually be something within the configuration of the mail client.
The Mac OS X Server is significantly easier than the many other servers and server operating systems I've dealt with over the years, but it requires reading the manuals and/or some knowledge of networking and of server environments.
Small shops and home folks without the time or inclination to "spin up" on these server areas can be well-served with some help initially configuring the server. Servers are different from clients. Stuff that you're implicitly used to using when you're running a client -- the DHCP server, for instance -- are what the servers provide you with.
As for Mac OS X Server and particularly if you head outside of the default settings and sequences and off into the customizations, which is what has happened here, you might want to engage some assistance. Not just for the direct and obvious initial set-up sequence, but also for getting you set-up and started with backups and other such tasks. Before you get too deep in here and get too much underway and too much saved on your disks, do seriously consider getting somebody in to help set this box up for you.
Mac OS X Server is not "no IT", but it is rather closer to "less IT" than most. Particularly once you get it configured and running.
