ITunes 11.3 some things add to library and some don't
I have iTunes 11.3.1 (2) (64 bit) and a Mackbook Pro 13" (early 2011 model) OS X 10.9.4. I moved my music, audiobooks, movies, podcasts, etc to a home server (Seagate Central) and created a new library. I was able to add my ring tones to iTunes as well as my audiobooks and about 600 of my songs. Some songs add and some don't. Doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason. I've imported m4a, mp3, m4p. The items that have imported and am trying to import come from the same iTunes Media/Music folder. I've tried adding both by folder and by individual file. I've also right-clicked a song and selected to open in iTunes and nada. I've also checked the Recently Added playlist and nothing is there as well. These same songs played when they were stored on my Macbook. I don't get it. I'll see a millisecond flash of the album but nothing happens. The only common factors I can see is that if it will let me play it in the finder it will let me add to iTunes. Also, it seems that 'older' stuff I added from CD from my older iPod days doesn't add. For kicks, I tried to copy and paste an album back to my MBP and it says I don't have permission but that happens with both ones that show up in the program and ones that don't. I'm the admin on both my laptop and the server. Grr. HELP!
PS: When I use Seagate's remote site I can listen to songs that won't play in my Finder or add.
I haven't seen this issue before but I have seen lots of posts here about issues with using iTunes with NAS. General rule of thumb is iTunes is not guaranteed to play well with NAS. For some it does, for others not.
My understanding is NAS uses its own software to interface with the computer's software. This could well have been designed with Windows in mind and the drive you are using may be formatted NTFS for Windows and iTunes is having to trust the software 100% for interfacing. Perhaps your files have illegal characters for Windows naming convention.
Remember the game where people sit in a long row and whisper a message from one end to the other, then compare the results which almost invariably have been garbled in transmission? That's iTunes and your files over NAS.
Maybe some of this is iTunes fault but if you take this issue to an Apple Store I bet they will ask you why you aren't using a plain external hard drive. If you use third party hardware then it is up to the vendor (who likely sells 95% to PC users) to ensure the interface works.

I am a long time iTunes user but a new MacBook owner! I keep the majority of my music files on an external hard drive. I'm trying to view all those files on my MacBook through iTunes. With windows you would go to : File/Add To Library, and iTunes would add all your selected files to your music library BUT WOULD NOT COPY THEM TO YOUR HARD DRIVE. In other words, if the external hard drive was connected, you could listen, drag/drop, and edit the files. When I tried the same thing with my new MacBook... it actually started coping the files to my MacBook harddrive. I don't want that, it's millions and millions of mp3's that I don't want to keep on my computer, only my external hard drive. Can anyone help? In iTunes 11 uncheck the preferences setting in in the iTunes Preferences panel "Advanced > Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to Library"

I click on "add to library" and the file shows up in my iTunes media file, but not in my iTunes.
That didn't work - I'm so confused - it just doesn't make sense. How could it be there, but not show up on itunes???

I have my my original itunes on my old computer that doesnt accept CD's anymore and My new computer has some of the old songs and some new songs. How do I get all my old content on the new computer and still keep the new content? I also have a few different ipods and I want to have all the songs on all of them but it wont let me. I have read millions of the help articles and still cant figure it out. When I plug one ipod in it says it is going to delete all the old info to sync and cant just add the songs? Frustrated please help!!
Copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

I share my iTunes accont with my kids. Many of the songs that they purchase, I do not want in my iphone Library, and I don't want them to play when I have my phone on shuffle. How an I remove unwanted songs from my phone library withot affecting their devices?

It will not open for me. I go to the "itunes" tab once i'm in my library, and it says "accessing itunes store" but nothing happens.

My Mac mini won't recognize iphone 4 photo library in itunes so I can download pics from library and free up space in memory, I was able to download camera role but not photo library that takes up more space. Help thanks
The photo sync is one-way: Computer to phone. Photos synced to your phone will have to be extracted from your phone using third-party software, if you want them on your computer, as Apple makes no provision to do so. Since you're using a Mac, you can use this:

when importing files into fcpx from go pro hero2, some are importing as .mov and some as .mp4. when making a multi cam clip it will only add one type, if you try and add the other it says camera clip cannot be processed. need to figure out why it randomly imports differently, or how to add different file tyoes to multi cam.
here is one that is imported and stays .mp4. the specs are same as original file before import.
here is one that has changed somehow during import. specs on original file are same as above, but once it is imported it changes to this in event folder, and others randomly keep the above specs. -
I had'nt used iTunes for quites sometime, opened the music library and previously purchased music and impoerted content is missing.

Have you tried resetting your phone (hold down the Home and Power buttons a the same time and continue to hold until the Silver Apple appears). Once the Home screen comes back up, see if your Music is OK.
If it is not, then, have you sync'd your phone to an iTunes library on a computer? If so, then hook it up to the computer, uncheck the "Sync Music" option so that no music is sync'd and then sync the phone. This should delete everything on the phone. Then go back and re-check the "Sync Music" option, and select any other criteria you want on that screen, and then sync again. This should put back all of your music.

Lately I've been importing photos from my iPhone to iPhoto and when I attempt to edit them they seem to disappear. Some reappper as a photo stream pic (some as the edited version and some not). But they no longer appear as a recent import. Lots more happens and I'm wondering if it's because I have a 5-year old Mac book or iPhoto is having issues. I'm not happy with disappearing photos especially after I've deleted them from my iphone after importing them to my macbook.

The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?

I can not connect to iswifter, some times it is connected and some time it is not connected and getting message " UNABLE TO CONNECT TO SERVER , CHECK YOUR INTERNET" but my internet connection is ok and I can open other web site with out any problem. Please guide me how to solve this issue.

When I start my iPhoto it says: "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable". I don't have a back-up of my library and I don't know what to do! Thanks
Try to restart your Mac. If the library is really in use by another application, that can clear it.
Tell us more about your system. Which version of iPhoto are you using? Which version of MacOS X?
Where are you storing your iPhoto Library?
What happened before this problem first started? Did iPhoto crash? Did you move the iPhoto Library somewhere else?

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help? -

one option to find the difference is you have to look for parameters like test run or commit .
If the function module doesn't have them, then it means you have to use BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT or BAPI_TRANSACTION_ROLLBACK based on the success or failure.
