ITunes 11 can't share on "home sharing" network

I just downloaded iTunes 11 and now I can't import songs from a computer on my "home sharing" network.  There is no way to drag a title to import it.  What is my problem?

I was having this problem to. I could see part the contents of the library I wanted to import from. Switched off Home Sharing and Switched it back on again. Then I found two ways to achieve the import.
1) Turn on View Sidebar, Then you can see the other library in the lefthand pane as in itunes 10. Select the items you want and click on the import button in the righthand bottom cornee.
2)In the interface without the sidebar there is a drop down select box to allow you to select Music, Movies, TV shows etc. At the bottom the shares available to you are shown click on the one you want. Then select the type of content ie Music Movies etc select the items you want and click on the import button at the bottom right.
Hope this helps

    Hi,
I tried everythink, but same as before!
    - droppings ot the main screen
    - loosing Home Share
    now even on iPads !
    Frustrating!
I'm now more than convinced that this is caused by the latest iTunes version.
As some others stated in other threads .... it seems that Apple doesn't really take care of this problem. So what if, if we could make them feeling the same pain as we do. ... Just by dropping them a mail as soon as we have the problem again. Not more often, we don't want to be unfair, but everytime it happens.
I found this feedback site http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
I will start now with this.... maybe this will help to rise a little bit of attention

    Hello all,
Since the last update to iTunes Version 10.6.1 (7) streaming content (Movies and TV shows) to Apple TVs and iPads has two major problems:
    - Home Sharing is lost during streaming (streaming stops even if a large portion of the content is already preloaded)
    - streaming stops and the main screen pops up (Home Sharing still available)
This happens sometime after some minutes, sometimes after several hours, but it surely happens.
I followed every advice I could found on this support website. There are now a lot of threads following this issue.
Sometimes it seems getting better, but hours later the same isues occured again. Watching content on this enviroment is a real pain and very frustrating.
As many others I'm now convinced that the latest update of iTunes caused this problem.
Our family enviroment contains the following Apple products:
    - iTunes on a Win7 32 bit Noname PC (all content)
    - second iTunes on a iMac with OS 10.6.8 (all content)
    - third iTunes on a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8 (daughter, only selected content)
    - fourth iTunes on a Win7 32 Samsung Notebook (son, only selected content)
    - all iTunes sharing the same Home Sharing ID
    - 2 Apple TV second generation
    - 1 Apple TV first generation
    - 2 iPod touch (bought last year)
    - 2 iPads (second generation)
all firmware or software are on latest available patchlevel.
At this moment, I can not recomend to others to buy this products.
I will drop this feedback everytime my famiily and I facing this problem... just to help you to get a better feeling of the urgency of this issue.
Thanks for every effort in advanced.

  • How can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

how can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

That's exactly what I meant, but for some reason Home Sharing stopped working on my iPad2 once I activated iTunes Match.
Since then, I waited for iTunes Match to finish setting up and scanning my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro and I restarted my iPad2. Both Home Sharing and iTunes Match are now up and running smoothly!
    Thanks for the reply!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You would only need homesharing on your iPad if you want to use the remote app (which is quite handy actually). To be able to use the iPad with the Apple TV, you use AirPlay, but the iPad won't show up in a list on the Apple TV, you send content from the iPad itself.
Assuming both devices are on the same network and that AirPlay is not turned off on the Apple TV, then simply tap on the screen when you are watching content you wish to stream to your Apple TV, then tap the airplay icon that appears in the control bar, choose the Apple TV from the menu that appears.
When displaying the content you wish to mirror on the iPad 2 (or better), iPad Mini, iPhone 4S (or better), double tap the home button (quickly) and swipe the bottom row of apps to the right to reveal the playback controls, tap the AirPlay icon and select your Apple TV from the list of available devices.

  • Apple TV 2 Can See My Library, But Can't Connect for Home Sharing

I'm really at my last rope, so hoping someone will have mercy and be able to help here.
    Symptoms:
    - Go to my Apple TV 2
    - Under the Home Sharing menu, select "Adam Nash's Library"
    Result:
    - Spinning cursor
    - Cannot connect to "Adam Nash's Library".  Please check that your computer is on and on the same network.
Internet access works for all devices, they all can do Netflix and Apple Store.  Only one network in the house.  No firewall activated on the mac.
I have multiple AppleTV units, and this has intermittently affected all of them.  Periodically, I have solved the problem by taking them on / off ethernet.
    Things I have tried:
    - Restarting iTunes on the computer
    - Turning Home Sharing on and off on AppleTV
    - Turning Home Sharing on and off on iTunes
    - Rebooting the computer
    - Resetting the AppleTV units
    - Restoring the AppleTV units
    - Forcing the AppleTV units to different IP
    - Forcing the AppleTV units to Ethernet instead of Airport (by plugging into Airport base stations directly)
    - Swapping AppleTV units to different rooms
    Nothing works.
One clue.  I have three Airport Extreme base stations in the house, and this problem begain when one of them started misbehaving (would connect, but wouldn't pass through packets.)  It's an Airport Extreme Base Station (Series 1).  The other two are Series 4 & Series 5.  I reset the misbehaving box and reconfigured it, and seems to be working fine from a networking standpoint.  But once that happened, one of the AppleTVs started showing this problem.
Is there some reason that Home Sharing is hyper sensitive to the network in some way?  It *seems* like what's happening is that it's seeing the iTunes Library (which is why it show's the Library name), but when it tries to connect, something is either encrypted differently or permissioned wrong.
Hoping someone can help me.  Frustration is at 11.

One clue: I have found a reliable way to solve the problem when it happens.
In my network, I have the main Airport Extreme (Gen 1) which is connected to my router, which distributes IP addresses to my internal subnet.  The other two AEs (one Gen 4, one Gen 5) are set to extend the network.
When I get this problem with an AppleTV 2 that can "see" my library, but when I try to open it, it says it couldn't find the library, it seems to have to do with a change in which Airport Extreme it's talking to.
If I restart the main Airport Extreme from the Airport Utility, effectively restarting the entire wireless network, then when the network resumes, every AppleTV 2 is happy again.
Unfortuntely, the problem does seem to recur - but I'm wondering if it's because temporary interference leads an AppleTV 2 to try to connect to a different AE, and somehow that's mucking with the Home Sharing.  Remember, internet access (Trailers, Store, Netflix) have no issues.  Purely Home Sharing.

    Im confused.
How do you know there are three other computers on your network using Home Sharing?
Do you have 5 computers, all powered on with iTunes running?

  • I would like to transfer a playlist and associated music from one computer on a home sharing network to another without transferring the entire library.  How?

I would like to transfer a playlist and associated music from one computer to another in a home sharing network without transfering the entire itunes library.  How would I do that?

you can transfer playlists using home sharing but it won't copy the actual music files within to the other machine.
however, i believe TuneRanger can do that.

  • Can't see the Home Sharing Icon

I can't see the home sharing icon on the left hand itunes menu despite having activated the home share in the advanced settings tab. Can anyone help?

Hey I had the same problem,
Thanks to you I found it.
It's not supposed to be there, once you activate it it goes away.
If you want to see it, go to the advanced tab, click turn it off, then turn it back on, but don't say DONE on the last step or it hides it.
If you go to other computers or laptops it should probablly be there if that's how you configured it...
    hopefully that helps, (:

  • How can I share the home folder with different accounts on the same mac?

    Hi, here's a question:
How can I share the home folder with different accounts on the same mac?
The whole point being not to have to install all my apps, and move all my files each time between users.
The second thing would be to be able to modify one document on one account, and have it changed on the other account without having to copy it.
I would like to have a pro and a private account on my mac.
    Thanks for you answers,
    Doug

Your apps should not be installed in your home folder--they should be in /Applications where every user can access them.
If you want to share things between users on the same Mac, use the /Users/Shared folder. Keep your home folder private. Trying to defeat the protections on the home folder subfolders just gets messy. I've never bothered to figure out all of the problems associated with it so I can't explain how to do it.
Even with using Shared, you would need to alter the ACLs on the shared folder in order to allow both users to modify the documents.
You must create a Group in Users & Groups and put each user in that group. Then create a folder inside /Users/Shared where you want to share the various files.
Then, add an ACL to the shared folder that gives the group special permissions. on that folder.
    sudo chmod -R +a "<sharinggroup> allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,add_subdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directory_inherit" /Users/Shared/<sharing folder>
Replace <sharinggroup> and <sharingfolder> with the name of your group and your folder. Then, run the command in the Terminal.
With that ACL, each user in <sharinggroup> will be able to alter the files created by any user in the group in that <sharingfolder>.
Essentially, the client OS is not designed for true file sharing among the individual users. It is designed to isolate each user account from the others.
