ITunes 11 cannot sync iCal between phone and macbook?

Is no one else having this issue? It seems that with iTunes 11 they have taken away the option to sync your calendar events through iTunes and now you can only do it through iCloud. Well if you're running OS 10.6 you don't have iCloud. Is there anyway around this? I uninstalled iTunes 11 and installed 10.6.3 but then it wouldn't open because my iTunes library was created by a new version. So I just gave up and went back to iTunes 11. I have a lot of events on my macbook's iCal that would take forever for me to transfer manually, especially since iOS 6 still doesn't even allow you to copy and paste events. I'm beyond frustrated. Does anyone have an easy solution to this? I've tried GMail but all of the tutorials were confusing, and when I tried to set up my GMail account in iCal on my Macbook pro and it kept giving me errors and saying it couldn't communicate with the server or something. I believe all of this is a huge oversight by Apple and it's alienating a lof of users.

I have the same problem. This is very recent, and seems to be because I upgraded the OS in both cases. Before I did that, everything was fine. So, now, any event that I input on the Iphone 3GS fails to show up on the Macbook Air. Not only that, when I tried the override button in Itunes, as my calendar entries in the computer were now newly made, it would not synch it on my phone.
The final straw is that any calendar invite I get, refuses to be assigned on my calendar...
Took it to the Apple Support folks here, and after 3-4 hours, all they did was what I told them I had already done - to do a full restore...  nothing happens. In fact, whenever I do this, I get an additional repitition of calendar entries from the older events... so, I have 6 anniversaries of my own now, and 3 birthday renditions of my friends - on the same date... !

  • How to sync iCal between iPhone and MacBookPro without MobileMe?

    Hello,
How can I sync iCal between iPhone and MacBookPro without MobileMe?
I'm still using MobileMe, but I will stop soon.
I'm using my iPhone in India a lot to create new events or to add new contacts. At the end of the day I would like to able to sync it with my MacBookPro without using MobileMe. Internet Connection is often very bad in that area. The iPhone I only use without UMTS and all that Data Transfering stuff. Best for me would be to sync directly by wire or Bluetooth if possible. If you have a solution with and without Internet Connection, that would be very helpfull to me.

On the Mac, in iTunes with iPhone attached, click on the iPhone section. Go to the "info" tab. There you will see a list of items that can be synced. Make sure that "sync addressbook contacts" is checked, along with the appropriate choices under it.
Don't know what else to say, it works fine here.
    Hope this helps.

  • No deauthorise button available in iTunes account to sync apps between phone and iTunes

Message reads: "One computer is authorised to play content purchased with this Apple ID"  However there is no button to deauthorise one or all computers.  As a result i cannot sync apps back to iTunes from iPhone. If i do sync it will wipe all existing apps from the phone as the new version of itunes will not allow me to sync more than 5 computers.  I have only ever had iTunes on one laptop previously so i don't know why i am receiving this.  Is there a possible solution anyone can please recommend?

    Yes!
Luckily, if you be very careful and pay attention to what you have selected in itunes, you can separate these things
Basically, in iTunes, there are tabs at the top for Summary, info, apps, etc..
These tabs control PER DEVICE what syncs between itunes and the device.
Therefore, you can plug iPhone 4S #1 in, and select to sync contacts with address book, then do so.  Then plug iPhone 4S #2 in, and not choose to sync with address book.  iTunes will keep these settings separate. However, in that situation for music and apps, you would check to sync both on both, in order to get all music and apps on each.
The only thing to watch out for, each computer 'user' has only one set of address book and ical, meaning that if you want to sync both phones to the computer, but dont want to mix contacts, only one phone will be able to sync contacts and/or calendars.  Basically, each category in the Info tab will only hold one device's information, so you CAN do contacts with iPhone 4S #1, and calendars with #2.

  • Problem syncing ical on iphone and macbook pro

    Hi,
After downloading ios8 I have noticed that I have problems syncing my calendars to and from my phone and computer. I have tried a variety of solutions:
    1) I have turned "on" the sync button on the phone under settings -> mail, contacts, calendars -> icloud -> calender "on"
    2) I have checked the box under system preferences in the macbook under iCloud -> calender "on"
    3) I have tried deleting both from the computer and the phone and then reloading them.
I'm out of ideas. I deleted a lot of things to make room for ios8 on my phone, so I am wondering if I disabled something or prevented syncing then, because it has been happening for about ~2 weeks since I downloaded the new software. Any ideas?

First make sure the events are being added to your iCloud calendar and not a non-iCloud calendar such as On My Mac, On My iPhone, Gmail, Yahoo, an exchange account, etc.
If you are and they still aren't syncing, the first step is to determine if the issue is with your phone or your Mac.  Add a new calendar event on each one, then check your calendar on iCloud.com to see which one doesn't appear there.
If the event from your phone doesn't appear on iCloud.com, try force-closing the calendar app and resetting your phone.  To do this, double-tap the home button, locate Calendar, swipe up on it to close it, then tap the home button again.  Then reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.  After it restarts, test your calendar again.  If it still isn't syncing, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out, choose Delete from My iPhone and provide your password when prompted (your data will still be in iCloud.  Then sign back in (your data will download back to your phone) and test your calendar again.
If the even from your Mac doesn't appear on iCloud.com, go to System Preferences>iCloud, click Sign Out, choose Delete at all of the prompts (your data will still be in iCloud), restart your Mac, then go back and sign back in (your data will download back to your Mac).  Then test your calendar again.

  • ITunes not syncing properly between machines and devices

My setup used to work just fine before the updates to syncing, now it is just a big mess.
    Before:
iTunes install on my Mac tied to my iPad used primarily for video content and video podcasts.
iTunes install on my Windows machine tied to iPod/iPhone used primarly for audio content and audio podcasts.
Each one was in it's own little world and everything just worked.
    Now:
Both iTunes installs are getting the full list of podcasts from each other and their devices, so my audio podcasts are now showing up on the Mac and video podcasts are showin up in Windows.  I don't really care that is happening, but the watched/played status is not updating properly across the board.  For example, if I watch or listen to a podcast that status is not updating everywhere.  Worst case is that on some occasions, items that I have already watched/played are reverting back to unwatched/unplayed status.
Is there a way to get syncing working properly, or do I just need to turn all of those options off and go back to just direct syncing between machine and device?

    Jason,
Thanks for your response. I am using Exchange and syncing over-the-air, not using iTunes. As you suggested, I deleted the Exchange account and then set it up again - but that did not work. HOWEVER - observations that I made while doing what you suggested led me down another path, and I was able to solve my problem! So - thanks!
In case anyone else has this problem, here is what my problem was and I how I figured it out (I hope someone finds it useful).
My problem was not an iPhone-to-Exchange sync problem, rather it turned out to be an Entourage-to-Exchange sync problem with the calendar. Turns my entourage calendar folder cache was messed up and had to be "emptied". I found this article that helped me do that: http://www.helpdesk.ilstu.edu/kb/index.phtml?kbid=1453
    How I discovered the solution:
As I said, my problem was that calendar items edited or created on the iPhone were not showing up in my calendar when viewed from Entourage. When I deleted the exchange account from my iPhone, the calendar items that were (as far as I knew) ONLY on the iPhone and had not been sync-ed to exchange should have been lost forever. When I put exchange back on the iPhone - those item showed up again. So either the database on the iPhone didn't get erased when I deleted the account or those items REALLY WERE in exchange all along. So, I used Outlook Web Access to view my calendar items in exchange by bypassing entourage - and sure enough, they WERE there all along. That isolated the problem to Entourage and once I figured that out the solution was pretty easy to find.

  • Problems with Syncing Mail between iPad and MacBook

The mail between my iPod Touch and MacBook used to sync themselves perfectly. If I got a piece of mail on one device and looked at it or deleted it, it wouldn't show up on the other device. It was like both devices could access the same mailbox and not confuse messages with one another. I loved that!!
This is not the case with my iPad. I'll get a piece of mail on my iPad, open it and/or archive it, and then it'll show up on my MacBook's mail as a brand new, unopened message...
How can I fix this? Surely there must be some sort of solution...
If it matters, this is a GMail account, and I'm using an iPad 2 (16 GB, WiFi)

I think i have found how to solve the problem. I went into address book preferences and i noticed i didn't have icloud enabled here. As long as i use icloud contacts rather than 'on my mac' contacts it now seems to delete and add across the 2 devices. Many thanks

  • Upgrade to iOS5 created syncing problems between phone and pc.

Ever since upgrading to iOS 5, apps purchased on my phone won't sync to my pc.  After trying to sync, the apps won't open on the iphone anymore.  If I delete and re-download just one of the new apps, all of them will open again.  This didn't happen before upgrading to the new OS.  I have tried everything.  This computer is authorized, it is the only one I use.  If I install the apps on the computer and try to sync them, they won't open on the iphone.  I am not sure what to do to fix this.  Does anyone have any suggestion.  (re-installing itunes didn't help, de-authorizing and re-authorizing didn't help, restoring the phone didn't help and just caused me to have to remember what apps I had purchased and re-install)

Having the same problem with my iPhone 4.  Message says "App XYZ Failed to Install", of course after I have already paid for it.  Same result for paid or free apps that were new.  Most of my apps that were previous to the iOS 5 upgrade are there and working.

  • Sync Mail between iPhone and Macbook?

I'm brand new to Macs.  I typically read my emails from the Mail app on my iphone.  However, when I open Mail on my macbook, all of those emails that I've already opened are marked as unread.  Does anyone know how I can sync my phone and computer so that everything I open on one device is open on the other device?

    You need an IMAP account.
With an IMAP account, all server stored mailboxes are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account.
For received messages with a POP account, there is option to not remove the messages from the server when downloaded by each email client used to access the account. With the Mail.app on a Mac, this is available under the Advanced tab for the account preferences. There is a Never option for POP account preferences with the iPhone's Mail client.
You can email this message with an attachment to yourself to be received by the Mail.app on your Mac after selecting Never for removing messages from the server when downloaded by the iPhone's Mail client.
On your iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Select the POP account.
Select Advanced for the account settings.
Under the Incoming Settings section, select Never for delete from server.

  • ITunes cannot sync iCal

Since uploading iCloud I have not been able to sync iCal either over air or by cable - can anyone suggest a sequence that I can try?

I found this in another thread and it seems to have resolved my iCal Sync to iPhone and iPad calendar issue:

Re: I can't sync iCal to iPhone through iTunes in Mountain Lion (I don't want to use iCloud) Jul 29, 2012 4:31 PM (in response to graemecod)
Hi people, I think I have a solution:
Quit Calendar, and try removing the cache files from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that Library folder, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Delete any files with CACHE in their name in the Calendars folder.
When you open iCal again, it says "Updating calendars", and the sync now seems to work.
Of course, do a backup of all calendars before doing any of this.

  • Sync documents between iPad and MacBook

I want to be able to edit Pages documents on my iPad and MacBook, and have sync from one to the other. I'm no having success with either the iCloud or Dropbox. When I make changes on the iPad, they don't seem to get reflected on the MacBook. Any suggestions?

I believe that Pages on the Mac does not support iCloud yet.

  • Synced times in ical between iphone and Macbook not the same

I have tried syncing my ical to my iphone using itunes and the times on my iphone are not the same as my ical. for example 1.30 pm for an appointment in my ical reads as 4.00am and the next day on my iphone calendar. How do I fix this?

Are both the iPhone and your Mac set to the same (local) time zone? Do you have Time Zone support turned on in iCal Preferences and in iPhone > Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar?

  • How do I sync Notes between iPhone and Macbook, preferably using a cable?

I was running Lion before I upgraded to Mavericks.  I would sync notes via iTunes using a cable.
My understanding is that you have to use WiFi and iCloud with Mavericks, which if true is a really dumb limitation and a problematic one.  I do not have WiFi at home and often not when traveling.  But I do have a cable and my Macbook.
Is there no way to sync Notes with a cable?

At a standstill on a solution so I retried other suggestions I have found on various threads.  I have done this specific process multiple times but luckily this time it worked.  What helped was - on MBP went to Settings > iCloud then unchecked Notes.  Said ok to delete Notes from MBP (my most recent version is on my iPhone).  Waited about 5 min then went back to Settings > iCloud checked Notes, said ok to merge and now my Notes on iPhone and MBP are the same.  Will have to see what happens.  I had my phone connected to MBP vis USB and used wireless during process.  Hope this helps with your problem also.

  • Syncing audiobook between iPhone and MacBook

    Hello,
is it somehow possible to sync the current position of an audiobook between MacBook and iPhone?
E.g. if I listen to an audiobook on my MacBook and want to continue on my iPhone I need a way to sync the current time.
Does anyone know, if there's a way?

Assuming you have sync contacts with the Address Book selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, try resetting the sync history on your Mac. This is done via iSync preferences with the iSync application if your Mac is not running Lion.
