ITunes 11 changes artist and album information

Since iTunes 11 I cannot rename artist name and album information and have it stick.. I sort by last name and always delete the sort information in the sort tab.  After restarting my Mac I find the information in sorting has reappeared and the artist name is again sorted by first name in the library.  In the info tab, the artist name is still listed last-name-first, and the album info is as I changed it..  How can I hack iTunes 11 to leave the sorting information blank?

Yes, others are seeing this. Something in purchased media (I am pretty sure this has only happened with purchased media) is periodically checking back with the iTunes Store and resetting the tags in the iTunes library file but not in the actual media files (metadata are stored in both). I haven't seen a truly systematic diagnosis of the issue (I use an old iTunes and have no iTunes account so I can't test anything myself). There are temporary workarounds but tags will still revert after a time. 2014 discussion about edited tags for Store purchases reverting to originals - https://discussions.apple.com/message/26077896#26077896 - edited tags are still present in the media file but revert to the originals in the iTunes library file. Workaround is to refresh tags so media file tags are re-read and used in library file. https://discussions.apple.com/message/26193185#26193185 Send feedback to Apple about this so they know it is an issue they need to investigate: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html Don't expect an immediate solution but maybe the next time they update the software it may be resolved.

  • ITunes 12 sorting artists and albums wrong/out of order

    Hi,
So I'm using iTunes 12, though this problem occurred with 11 too...
As you can see in the image, I'm using Mac DeMarco as an example, it happens with selected other artists too. I have two albums of his, yet they don't appear together and there are multiple instances of the artist. Even the albums don't appear together. Both of them have the same "Artist" and "Album Artist" information.
Here you can see one instance:
Here's the second instance. Note, the artist appears amongst the "D" artists, after Deftones for some reason, instead of "M" with the other album:
What is going on? Please help.

Enable the Sort Artist and Sort Album Artist columns, chances are that the fields have been set inconsistently.

  • How to get back artist and album name

I have bought or imported all of my music through itunes. However, when I updated to itunes 10, most of my artist and album information was lost. When I try to get the information, I get the message that itunes cannot get the information for items not purchased or imported through itunes???? How do I fix this?

What's the exact message? The phrase you typed doesn't ring any bells.

  • Why is iTunes automatically changing edited song and album information?

Hi guys, I've seen this question asked several times but I haven't seen an answer or advice that specifically relates to the problems I've been having with my iTunes library of late.
I've got a pretty big collection of music on iTunes - almost 1000 albums - and I'm pretty anal about the way it's stored and managed and I regularly change the song and album information to suit my own "house style". All my music was stored on a Dell laptop and was fine - I had no problems with changing and editing the information. I recently bought a MacBook Pro and shifted all the music files from the old machine onto the new one (a lengthy and frustrating process) and since then, I've had a lot of hassle in terms of amending and organising my iTunes collection. A lot of the music I've purchased from the iTunes store has reverted back to its original state, no matter how many times I've changed it.
    For example:
Lana Del Rey's Born to Die (Deluxe Version). I've removed the "Deluxe Version" from the title but I quit iTunes or sync it with my iPod, it automatically adds it back. I've changed the information in the song info, I've even changed it in the sort info just to be sure, but it always changes back.
The same with the Anthems Electronic 80s compilation. I want to call it Ministry of Sound: Electronic 80s and remove it from Various Artists (by deleting the album artist from the information). But after iTunes is quit or its been synced, the same thing happens. It appears as two albums on my iPod - a handful of tracks appear under the old title while the bulk of them appear under the new one.
It's happening across loads of albums, all ones I've downloaded (the stuff ripped from CDs seems to be okay). I've done as much as I can in terms of the song info but no matter what I do, it just reverts back when the programme's quit or I sync my iPod. I don't know if it's anything to do with the fact they're in the Cloud or they've been imported from a Dell laptop or there's an underlying problem with iTunes (a couple of posts elsewhere on this forum suggest it might be the case) but it's really frustrating.
I apologise for the length of my post but I wanted to be as thorough as possible to outline the problem. If anyone's in a position to offer me any advice, I'd be hugely grateful!

A handful of others have complained about this recently.  Seems to happen to iTunes Store purchases only.  Somehow they are connecting back to the Store and refreshing label information.  There may be a solution but few seem to try experimenting with settings to see if something stops it.

  • I recently moved my itunes library. Itunes deleted a lot of artist and album info and album art. Now it won't let me edit the info to correct it. Any advice on to correct this?

I recently bought a new Asus laptop and moved my itunes to it. All of my files are stored on an external hard drive. In the process of importing my files into itunes on the new laptop, some artist and album info has been deleted. A lot of album art is missing as well. I attempted to correct the missing info, but now itunes won't let me edit any track, artist or album info. Any idea what the problem is and how I can fix it? Thanks.

You can't use your account's balance for gifting, you can only use a credit card - your balance can only be used to buy content for yourself. Until you pay what you owe iTunes then you won't be able to download any items from the store on that account.
If you haven't got a valid credit card then you can try contacting iTunes support and see if they can cancel the gift or take what you owe them from your balance: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • When Ripping CD, iTunes Displays Wrong Artist & Wrong Album

Thanks for looking at my post! When I try to rip a CD, iTunes thinks it's a different CD. Even when I change all of the song tracks, artist, and album name . . . I can't change the time. Of course the two CD's have different song lenths, so the songs are split across the wrong CD.
Is there any way to fix this?

Is it a 2 disc album?

  • Why doesn't the artist and album name show up on my iPod?

I edit each of my song through "Get Info", so I just simply type in the artist and album name. When I eject my iPod, the artist and album name doesn't show. Solution?

That happened to me too... It's a glitch... what I did is press sync right when i put my ipod in.. sometimes it doesn't work... just do it some other time again...or change someting in the song (getting info) It appears randomly...

  • How to access the "Genre", "Artist", and "Album" Panel via COM/script

I thought I posted this a couple of days ago, but checking on "My Posts", it appears I didn't. Oooops
I'm using the COM interface, which is also same as the scripting one.
I'm trying to discover what elements in the iTunes main window have been selected, and thus "highlighted".
The main window appears, to the interface, to be the "BrowserWindow", not to be confused with the View -> Show Browser window. Within this main window, I can identify which Playlist is currently selected, and/or which individual tracks are selected.
But, what I'm trying to do, is also identify if any elements in the View -> Show Browser window are also selected. "Genre", "Artist", and "Album".
Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so, how do I achieve it.
    Cheers,
    Eddie

In case you don't get any replies here, Eddie (your post might get buried under queries about iTunes 7.7), it might also be worth checking in at Teridon's google discussions. Robert's post here has a link through to those:

  • Artist and Album Panes in Organizer View of Media Sourc

When I plug in my older Zen Nomad, I see three panes in the organizer view for the player's library (select the player in the Sources pane)?-- the larger track pane to the right, full height, and an artist and album pane in the middle, split vertically. When I plug in my new Zen Vision:M, I only see the single track listing pane when I select the player (or select the Music folder). The artist and album panes are missing. I can't find any way to make them visible. How do I do that? Thanks much,Paul?

Right now, I have have everything installed on my PC?(MediaSource, both plug-ins, and the NOMAD driver). Obviously both devices have their firmware installed. ;-)? Everything is working, except for the inability to browse the Vision:M as a "music library." I had previously updated the NOMAD's firmware to the latest?..0, and I haven't changed it for all this. The Vision:M was already running the latest PlaysForSure?.20.02 firmware when I received it, so I didn't touch that. For the uninstall/reinstall discussed above, I was only changing software on my PC. I'm using MediaSource Player/Organizer 5.0.38. The NOMAD plug-in is the Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox Plugin 5.00.22. The NOMAD driver is the Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver 2.0.00. The Vision:M plug-in is the Creative PlaysForSure Devices Plugin 5.00.36. I tried software both from the Vision:M CD (which installed that horrible web based organizer), and from the downloads section of Creative's support web site (which is what I have installed now). Looking at the compatibility notes for all the software, it doesn't look like I can go back to the older MediaSource 3.30.2 I was using with the NOMAD?and use any available?Vision:M plug-in with it, so I didn't try rolling MediaSource back. It seems from my testing that the PlaysForSure?plug-in/drivers for the Vision:M do not present the device to MediaSource as something that is a "music library" and therefore MediaSource does not browse it with the same interface as it does the NOMAD. As I mentioned, it's already become pretty silly to try and browse just the 20 albums I've loaded so far, when all I can do is navigate to the Music folder and see a list of all the individual tracks. I can't even find a way to browse a list of albums or artists -- all I can do is sort by those columns which has very limited usability. Any ideas or tips appreciated. I'm guessing most people use some other software for managing their Vision:M libraries. What do they use? I had gotten used to MediaSource with the NOMAD and was hoping I could still use it for both. Thanks,Paul?Message Edited by AgileLogic on 0--200706:50 AM

  • Songs appearing as Artists and Albums???

I loaded one CD onto my Video iPod that arrived by mail today and I transferred it to my iPod..
But when I went to look at it..
I clicked into Artists and all the 13 songs appeared under that as if they were Artists..
I clicked Albums and it was the same way.
    Nothing separating them.
Instead of having Runway 36 under artists.. it had all their songs instead...
    Any reason why?
I went into preferenced and fooled around alittle trying to figure it out and I unchecked something that said, Load songs to Artists and Albums also..
And then I took the songs off and reloaded... and I still have the same problem..
    sigh
    Can you help me?
    Dell   Windows XP

greetings Stevornio, and welcome to the forums !
    this tip come from TT2:
+To display all artists in the Artists menu on your iPod, even those who only appear on compilations, remove the ticks against both of the iPod Compilation menu items, i.e.+
    +Settings > Main Menu > Music > Compilations+
    +Settings > Music Menu > Compilations+
+Cover flow should remain the same, with all compilations albums listed at the right-hand end.+
+To display all artists in the Artists browser column in iTunes turn off the preference to Group compilations when browsing. Provided you have set the Album Artist field the albums should remain grouped together.+

  • Remove podcasts from Artist  and Album list

It makes it difficult to select a particular artist if the large number of podcasts that are subscribed appear in the Artist and Album list. The way files are organized in iTunes this is not a problem- but in iPod it is a hassle. Is it possible to remove podcasts appearing in the Artist and Album list in iPod?

NO... I'm having the same issues and a quick search of the web reveals that Podcasts in 11.1 is COMPLEATLY BROKEN!!!
I've spent two days trying to fix this issue even including deleting all of my podcasts and restoring from the App Store and nothing works!!!

  • Same artist and albums being duplicated

On my ipod the same artist is being copied and listed more than once even though they are spelled exactly the same. Within the duplicates the albums are also being copied, the songs however are not, they are being divided up leading to a very cluttered and confusing arrangment on my ipod. Can someone please tell me whats goin on?!

A spelling or punctuation mistake, or sometimes a trailing space usually causes this after the artists and/or song name, which fools the iPod into thinking that there are two different artists or songs. The trailing space is the hardest to spot. Best way to cure this is to go into iTunes, highlight that artist and/or songs, right click on them and select "get info". This brings up the multiple song info window. In the artist or song box retype the name, as you would like it, and then click ok. Re sync this new artist/song info to your iPod.

  • N8 music player "artists and albums" issue

    Hello!
"artists and albums" in N8 music player mixes albums with same name from different artists
    into one album.
    How to reproduce:
    1) add "Greatest Hits" album from Blondie and "Greatist Hits" from Black Sabbath
    2) refresh library
    3) now there's one album "Greatest Hits" from Black Sabbath that contains songs from both Blondie and Black Sabbath albums.

if you run your music through windows music player before installing on phone and find album info in it all the music will display correctly well at least the odd 30 or so albums I have on my phone do , with album art in cover flow !
If I have helped at all, a click on the White Star is always appreciated :
