ITunes 11 Downloading Instead of Streaming

So unless I'm missing something, according to Apple the new iTunes 11 allows you to stream songs that are stored in the cloud, without having to first down them.  I have a couple albums I purchased on my iPhone and show up in iTunes with the iCloud/download button like they should.  But when I double-click a song it starts to download it, instead of streaming it.  Once it's downloaded it plays like normal, but I don't understand why it's downloading instead of streaming.
Second issue I'm having is that complete albums are not showing up in iTunnes.  I just purchased a single song, and from what I understand when I view it in album view it should (or at least can) show the rest of the album and offer me the chance to purchase additional songs.  On my iPhone I can click the "Show Complete Album..." button in order to do this.  But in iTunes all I get is the single song I've downloaded.  How do I change this?

The Mighty Mouse is the newer mouse, with left, right, middle, and side buttons. I believe what you mean is that the computer only has the older mouse, with one button.
What he meant was click the control key (not the Apple key, which is also called the command key) and left click with the mouse on the link. This should open up a small menu letting you save it to the desktop. The control key is two buttons to the left of the Apple (command) key on the standard size Apple keyboards. Remember to hold down the control key while clicking with the mouse.
Good luck.

  • My videos started DOWNLOADING instead of STREAMING, please help

    Hi,
I use to be able to show streaming video's on my site, created with Apple's iWeb and Compressor. Now, the videos I add to the site do not stream they download; they show the QuickTime logo; it takes quite some time for the videos to appear.
I used QuickTime codec H.264 (mpeg-4), among others; videos are 320X240, 12 fps, hinted streaming, self contained just as for the other videos created and uploaded previously onto www.zoetra.com that play properly. I upload using Cyberduck.
I contacted the host they do not know what causes this problem. Here below are the URL addresses of the pages where the videos download instead of streaming.

I don't know much about this QuickTime stuff, but what I hear people recommending is to make sure that your movies have the "faststart" property included. It sounds like you probably have QuickTime Pro, and I understand that it is one of the save options there.
If you don't have QuickTime Pro or if you just want a one-trick pony type of application to add the faststart property, you should check out Lillipot...

What you'll have to do is to re-save the movie files, then replace the ones currently on your pages with the updated files.

  • Downloading instead of streaming

Hi, i am a pretty new Mac user. Used to be able to download the audio files my dj friend puts on his website with a windows pc, but now I can only seem to stream them and not save them to my computer. Would be very grateful if you couyld tell me how to do this as he deletes them every few weeks to make way for new stuff and I am losing lotsa good material.

  • Imatch is downloading instead of streaming

I've come to realize that I filled up my phone with music that I thought I was streaming. When, in fact, I was downloading, and filled up my phone with data described as "other." So, the question is, what steps to I take to make sure I'm not downloading? Grateful in advance.

In iOS 6 the tracks are not "streamed" in the traditional sense we know. A cached version of the track is downloaded to the device and stored in non-permanent memory. There is no way to change this behavior. But the Music app is smart about it. It will periodically delete tracks from the cache that are older and have not been listened to recently.

  • Quick Time downloading mp3 file instead of streaming it

When I click on an mp3 file on a webpage which normally streams, it now starts downloading instead of streaming. Using the latest version.

Thanks for your help. Actually after my last post in saying it only happened in Firefox I had a further look in Firefox - Options - Applications - it showed that Quick Time default player was set to play mp3 files. I changed this to the Quick Time plug in and it worked. Thanks again.

  • Whenever I try to stream radio (pls or m3u) a program in MS Office opens instead of streaming.  I've tried reinstalling both Office and iTunes.  Any ideas?

Whenever I try to stream radio (pls or m3u), instead of streaming the computer opens a program in MS Office.  I've tried re-installing both Office and iTunes, but that did not fix the problem.  Any ideas about a solution?

You need to right (or Control) click on your playlist file and select "Get Info."
Then in the Get Info Dialog go to the Open with section and select the app
(like VLC or iTunes) that you want to open when you double click on the
playlist.  You can click on the Change All button if you want all files of the
same type to launch with the same app.

While installing latest version of iTunes error "This iTunes installer is intended for 32-bit versions of Windows. Please download and install the 64-bit iTunes installer instead" how to deal with it ?

Doublechecking. What's the filename of the installer you've been downloading? (The 32-bit installer is called iTunesSetup.exe, and the 64-bit installer is called iTunes64Setup.exe.)

  • How long should itunes download take on new computer with windows 7 64 bit ie8?

I bought a new computer and need to sync my iphone with it.  I'm getting a msg that it has 17+ hrs left to download itunes......seems too long and wonder what I'm doing wrong. thx.

Try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • Windows 8.1 iTunes download - possible without an IT degree?

I am a complete green horn.  I am absolutely appalled at how how difficult it is to find the information I require on installing iTunes on my Windos 8.1 laptop.  I go to the apple site.  I click on the download icon for iTunes.  But absolutely NOTHING happens.  No error messages no iTunes.  What the **** is going on.  Seems the marketing is better than the reality.  Now I understand why people stand in l  o   n  g queus outside the Apple Store to get the latest gizmo.  That's the only way ... feet on the street.  There is no online chat support , no email support and a virtually useless support site.
So what am I doing that is so complex and unusual.  I am trying to install iTunes on my Windows 8.1 laptop with the express purpose of importing my windows contacts on to my new iphone 5C.
Well, it seems I am the only person in the world that wants to take this bizarre step.  Surely this should be absolutely simple.  The replies to various queries I have seen on this support site are absolutely useless too.
i guess I will have to go and queue in an Apple store too!  Gee whiz!  I actually do have better things to do on a Saturday.
Here is the link I am trying to use - to absolutely no avail.  (ps my browser is Mozilla Firefox 25.0.1)

  • ITunes downloaded to my computer but now it won't open?

it's saying i need apple support or something? It also says to uninstall itunes, and redownload it. I tried that and it's still not working.

it's saying i need apple support or something?
Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Itunes download not installed indicating apple application support was not loaded

A couple of days ago, an iTunes update came thru and the update failed.  Support advised to uninstall iTunes and re-install it.  I have uninstalled & installed iTunes several times now.  Installer goes thru full process, says install is successful but then I get these two errors and obviously it's not installed.

I recently tried to download Itunes for my computer its a windows 8 64-bit. • Audio Video Content created in 10.6 Downloads instead of Plays Back

I have a situation where all content created in 10.6 will download instead of playing back with a browsers plug-in. That includes, mp3s (mp3s created with Logic) and all types of common video formats - DivX avi's, mp4's, mov's.
I have tested on Safari, Opera and Firefox in 10.6, Safari in 10.4, and on Windows Vista with Google Chrome.
It appears there is something common with 10.6 that cuases these problems - I would very much like to know what it is and how to resolve it.
So that you can test it for yourself, the website is:
    www.rohanstevenson.com
    /TV and Film Demos
In the mp3 demos, most of the contect was created in 10.5 and plays back ok. But "Nightmares and the Sidh" was created in the latest logic version on 10.6 and in safari, it won't play unless you move the slider forward very slightly, or copy and paste the URL into quicktime or VLC. In Firefox, it will download even if you ask it to playback using the plug-in. In Opera it will ask you for the plug-in and it will playback in the browser there. In Safari OS 10.4 and in Vista Gogle Chrome it will download no matter what.
In the Movie Demos, most of them were updated and will automatically download instead of playing back in the browser. However:
Dragon's Demand, and Fanny Hill - The Sonnet, were created in previous OS's and do playback properly (ie they don't download) in all the browsers.
The movies that download may have been created in 10.6 or not, but even the ones that were not were edited (cut out) using Quicktime Pro 7.6  recently in 10.6 and they download and do not playback. That is to say, anything that has had any editing done and therefore saved with an application in 10.6, or were created directly in 10.6 force downloads instead of playing back in browsers in the manner described above.
    Help!
N.B. the website was made with iWeb, but I don't think that is the problem, I think there is some header information in the files that stop them from being properly recognized.

there's been a number of long & short threads with similar problems, I think some even had the same content-type yet still misbehaved on some servers (an OS update or two ago, so some things might be fixed)
One poster at least thought that 10.6 created files were ok, but not if changed by iTunes (I think it was that, anyway); I never found a way to present the files on all servers that always worked, although using embed or something other than a direct link seemed to solve it in some cases w/o needing any end-user wiggling.
I'm sure that people must create/publish ok, but a number fetch up here saying that 10.6 won't play the results.
In case you've not seen it - Safari-Develop-Show Web Inspector-Resources-Headers shows what Safari gets as content-type, you can alter user agent & see if it changes. Sites like web-sniffer.net do it too.

Gigapower installed yesterday (W00t!!!) ... everything is flying except ... iTunes downloads
I've tried the following with no improvement
Different DNS servers from the local machine (4.4.4.4, 8.8.8.8, OpenDNS, att standard DNS)
    Turning off the firewall
Opening itunes port in gaming for the machine
Sacrificing a pure white goat inside a pentagram while wearing a black turtleneck
    Resetting network adapter
    Trying from multiple hardwired locations
Speedtest has me at 320Mbps and everything else is flying except streaming any connection to the iTunes store (from Mac, PC, and Apple TVs both wired and wireless).

Having the same problem tonight, trying to download Mary Poppins for my girls and I may as well have dial up...  Speedtest has me at 85 Mbps even while the DL is occurring so has me pondering where the hold up is.
