Itunes 11 freezing in Windows 7

I've been having issues with Itunes since the last version 10 update in Sept.  That issue was resolved by rebuilding my iTunes library.
with iTunes 11, i'm lucky if I can even get 1 responsive click out of it.  I've tried safe mode and building a new library again and this step never progressed beyond saying "ok".
It continually locks up and has to be shut down via task manager.  Any thoughts suggestions (spotify is looking pretty good now).

Yes, I can confirm that if iTunes hangs, if you kill the APSDeamon.exe process tree, the app will "return to life", other times it does not. Now, if that is the issue (the APSDeamon) gets stuck trying to complete a task, and that brings the whole app down, then iTunes is a sorry piece of software!
Today (Dec. 17, 2012) I tried to start iTunes, and the darn thing fails (got the Windows dialog box telling me that iTunes failed) Now I am seriously considering going back to 10.7 but dreading all the crap I may have to do (recover playlists, etc) to bring it back to how it was before the 11.1 install. Now, since I do some programming, I have a lot of crap installed that most ppl don't, so I need to make sure that there is no other piece of software that is causing / contributing to these issues, I'll let you guys know what I find!

  • Itunes Videos freezing with windows 7!

I just got a brand new dell studio last week; i installed itunes 9 with the 64bit and for the first few days it worked just fine and now I will be watching a movie on itunes and my computer will freeze and go black, requiring me to do a manual shut down because i can no longer move my cursor or click anything. I've heard other problems with windows 7 and itunes. When i insert a regular DVD into windows media it works just fine. So far my computer only freezes with my itunes videos but who knows next week it could be my music too!

  • Accessing Itunes store freezes computer - Windows 8.1

My computer seems to work perfectly in every other scenario, is completely virus free (according to malware bytes) and Itunes is fully updated however as soon as I try to access the Itunes store (tried it on 4 separate occasions) the entire computer freezes and I have to restart. Any solutions or should I just re-install?
Thanks for all the help in advance

I'm trying to access the iTunes store through a restricted network at uni, thus I'am unable to launch many applications which require network connectivity, would the iTunes store come under this and if so is that the reason it freezes my computer? As I thought that perhaps iTunes is unable to connect fully due to the network restrictions (partial display) therefore gets stuck in a loop without any exit strategy (reason for no error message) and thus crashes.

  • I tunes 11 freezes under windows 7 64-bit immediately and won´t do anything. Please help

itunes 11 freezes under windows 7 64-bit immediately and won`t do anything. Please help !

The first thing to do is make sure you are using the latest version of iTunes. Look on the Help/Check for updates menu option in iTunes, which will confirm that you have the latest version or enable you to download it.
The effective way to Sync the iPod is to add your songs to iTunes and then connect the iPod to iTunes after you have added your songs.
So if you have been connecting the iPod and then trying to add songs "to the iPod" - don't!
You add the music to iTunes and then sync the iPod with iTunes afterwards.
Next, try connecting the iPod to iTunes, if you get the "duplicate file message", can you post it here (exact wording please)?
Once you have the iPod connected to iTunes, click on the Device that appears on the left of the iTunes window. On the Device/Summary screen, choose (check) Sync only checked songs and videos. Providing the songs still have the check mark on in iTunes (the default when songs are added to iTunes), those songs will Sync with the iPod.
Notice the other options in additiion to Summary. Look on the Podcasts pane for the Sync option (to add Podcasts to your iPod) and also on the Photos pane for options for adding (or not) Photos to your iPod. If you change any of these options, you will need to press the Sync button afterwards for the changes to take effect.
Lastly (for now), you can only Sync the iPod with one iTunes library. If you try and Sync it with a second library on your computer, or with iTunes on another computer, all your previous songs etc will be removed and replaced with the new library.
A thought... could the duplicate file message be because you have two iTunes libraries on your machine?

    Many thanks.
That's consistent with an application (other than QuickTime itself) having dropped old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • ITunes 11.3 Freezes in Windows 7 -- has Storage Memory issues.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit:  Ever since I updated to iTunes 11.3, I've had nothing but problems with podcast downloads and transferring to iPod Touch (iOS 7.1,2). If you refresh a podcast, iTunes will freeze for a short period of time, then return to normal.  If you check or uncheck certain podcasts within a series, iTunes will freeze up -- again, for a short time, then unfreeze.  Almost any user action taken results in a short freeze-up.
I also have experienced inconsistent problems when updating iPod Touch -- some podcasts just won't transfer to the iPod no matter how many times I try to sync the iPod -- even when other podcasts sync OK.  As I mentioned, the problem is inconsistent and generally buggy.  BTW:  Never had a problem like this with the previous version of iTunes.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes 11.3, did several hard-restarts on the iPod, restarted the computer, and oddly, after deselecting most podcasts to remove them from the iPod, they remained on the iPod even though they were unchecked in both the podcast library list and in the iPod download list.
Also once the iPod Sync process is complete, it jumps up the memory used total to FULL even when I have little else on the iPod.  Even with the Music updates unchecked -- just syncing Podcasts to my iPod, the memory starts ot showing I have 8 gigs of space available, then when the sync is complete, the memory total jumps to FULL -- even when I've unchecked all but a few podcasts -- I'm using a 32GB device with hardly more than around 8GB.
Overall, iTunes 11.3 is practically unusable and inconsistent in its functionality -- just completely buggy.  I've wasted a lot of time trying to resolve this issue -- have called iTunes support and they recommended I delete 11.3 and download previous version 10.7 -- which I did -- and found out that the previous version doesn't recognize the more recent version of its Library, thus it can't load anything.  You'd think Apple Tech would know that, but they didn't.
Anyone else experiencing this issue -- or have a workable solution -- other than waiting for Apple to fix 11.3 so that it will work right?

Don't bother trying to go back to the previous 10.7 version of iTunes -- as you surmised, once you updated to the latest 11.3 version, the older 10.7 version won't recognize iTune's now future library.  Unless you kept a copy of the 10.7 library -- you're stuck with having to run the newer version.
Good rule for future updates;  Always keep a copy of the current iTunes Library file before updating to a newer version.
BTW:  Here's a link to previous iTunes versions:  Apple - Support - Downloads
Have you tried deleting your current iTunes version and reinstalling it?  That didn't fix the problem for me, but you might have better luck.  At this point I'm beginning to think that the only cure for this buggy 11.3 version is to wait for the next version where they fix the bugs that they will never admit they have.
Apple phone support used to have pretty knowledgeable people taking the calls -- but I sure didn't find that with the last couple of "tech" guys.

  • ITunes Store causing whole program to freeze on Windows 7 (64-bit)

So I installed iTunes 10.5 for Windows 7 (64-bit) and cannot open it up properly: the iTunes Store makes the entire program freeze up. I've cleared the DNS cache, closed my firewall, changed proxy settings, and iTunes it still unusable. What am I missing exactly? This is enough to tear the hair out of my head...

I can get it running if I run it in XP Mode, but I still don't have access to the Store...nobody has any ideas?

  • ITunes started freezing up on Windows 7 home while down loading podcasts and university videos.  Now, I can't even get iTunes to open on my computer.  what do I need to do?

itunes started freezing up on Windows 7 while downloading podcasts, books, itunes university items.  Now, I can't even get itunes to open on my computer.  What should I do?

It seems that in some cases the scripts on Apple's site that are intended to query your system to offer the appropriate installer don't work as intended, taking you straight to the "Thank you for downloading" page.  Depending on the edition of Windows you are running, there are three variants of the most recent version of iTunes, with direct links to the installers as follows:
    iTunes 12.1.2.27 (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe
    iTunes 12.1.2.27  (64-bit) - iTunes6464Setup.exe
    iTunes 12.1.2.27 (64-bit "for older video cards") - itunes64setup.exe
The third of these - which is actually the 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer - should be used if you get a warning about video card incompatibility when you install the standard 64-bit version, but also may resolve issues with playback, QuickTime compatibility, and problems with some third-party applications (including Outlook).
See turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for more details if you're still having problems with installation.

  • ITunes 9 freezes Windows when launched

Hi, I'm using Windows 7 and ITunes 9 and everything was fine until a couple of weeks ago when ITunes started freezing my PC (meaning everything looked fine but my mouse and keyboard weren't responding and my hard drive was just spinning). I've uninstalled completely using Renovo. I've tried using ITunes 8 as well, but it froze with that as well. At the time this started there were no new programs downloaded or drivers updated.
Anyone have any clue to what this problem might be? Thank you for reading.

Probably the best thing to do with that one, dimples, is to try working through the troubleshooting procedures from the following document:

  • ITunes Freezes on Windows XP Pro

My iTunes application freezes after I import music. I tried to uninstall and re-install (Including clean up of all preference files etc.) no change.
After it freezes I have to "End Application" at that point iTunes goes away and I loose Internet connectivity which only a restart solves.
I am not sure if it matters but I use IE 7.0
The iTunes version is the latest 7.XX
At this point I can not use iTunes!
    Any suggestions?

Using the new version of Itunes and having the same problem. For weeks now! I can open Itunes and then a couple clicks into it and it freezes. If i am lucky enough to get a song to play-i can't get it to stop. It won't let me hit the pause or stop key. After everymovent-FREEZE! It takes about 20 mins to import a 10 song CD. Bogs down my whole system. I have tried everything, uninstalling, reinstalling, removing plug-ins, downgrading to an older version (which can't read your library because it was made with a newer version of Itunes) Everything you can imagine, I have tried. I even thought of scrapping the whole Ipod and buying a new player of some sort and using Real or the Media Player but they don't recognize my music (library) because it was made by Itunes. Can you even believe it? This whole ordeal consumes me because I love my Ipod and music is essential to my daily life. Nothing has helped. I hope you have better luck than I.

  • Iphone 3gs not recognized by iTunes 10.3.1, Windows 7 64bit

    Iphone 3gs, 4.3.2
    iTunes 10.3.1
    Windows 7, 64-bit
Ever since iTunes updated I am unable to sync my iphone 3gs.  I have tried the following steps:
-Uninstalling all iTunes and related software (per apple support steps), restarting, reinstalling all itunes software.  Did not work.
-Trying several different USB cables, did not work.
-Tried all USB ports on my computer, did not work.
    -Restarting phone/computer, did not work.
-Turning off antivirus software (Avast) and firewall (ZoneAlarm), did not work.
I tried syncing with my friends computer (iTunes 10.3.1 and Windows Vista), and it worked!  Unfortunately none of my music is on that computer.
Next, I came across an article and tried the advice listed (install ifunbox on pc, delete itunes.db and itunes.cdb files on Iphone).  This allowed my iphone to be recognized by iTunes.  It began to sync, and gave me the following error: Unable to sync because the disk is not available.
I unplugged the phone and plugged it back in, it began to sync again.  This time it went through all of the aps succesfully and got about halfway throught the music portion, and then iTunes froze.  I restarted both systems and this happened the last 5 or 6 times...iTunes freezes during the music sync portion.
One other interesting note...in iTunes, the space claim bar (colored bar on bottom of sync screen) shows that there should be about 5 GB of music on my iphone, however the ipod app on the iphone shows no music.
Ughh sorry for the long post I am so frustrated right now.

Nope, haven't been able to fix it.  I was able to get some songs to sync by 'manually managing songs' however the songs were all corrupt.  They either wouldn't play, or they would start in the middle of the song, and the beginning of the song would somehow be spliced in to the middle of the song!
So frustrating.  I can't get apps to sync either.
At this point I am not even going to try syncing my phone until a new iOS or iTunes comes out.
For now I have resorted to jaibreaking so that I can at least have a little fun with it
