ITunes 11 "get info" grayed out

Some of my songs' info under "get in" are grayed out, so I cannot change genre, etc.  I have read thru a lot of old posts and I've checked the permissions on the iTunes folder and they are correct.  Weird thing is that only some songs are grayed out, and some are not.  I checked these individual songs permissions and they are correct.  Any ideas?
I have a MAC
iTunes 11

When you add a movie to iTunes you have to make sure it makes a copy of the file in the iTunes Media folder.  Otherwise, you can't edit any of the information on the movie or video.
In iTunes 12, go to Edit-->Preferences
In Preferences, go to Advanced and make sure the "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library".
Unfortunately, you will now have to re-import the movie files into iTunes using "Add File To Library..." Once imported, the movie will sometimes appear under "Home Movies" instead of "Movies" but if you right click on the movie file it will list a menu item called "Get Info" where you can change the "Options" to "Movie".
Hope that helps.

  • "Get info" grayed out

5th Gen iPod nano. "Get info" on iTunes10.1 is
grayed out so I can't get to any of the options.

Get info remains grayed out if I highlight an item.
However, later when I re-opened iTunes, I was able to GET INFO and set the option to resume playing where an item had been stopped. However, this setting did not work, and my audiobook starts over (I tried it on a new download). No response on trying to advance the playback either. I get the audiobooks free through my public library and its arrangement with www.netlibrary.org, and they do not seem to be set in tracks, so the resume playing part is especially important. • ITunes 11 - Get Info greyed out for movies on external drive

With iTunes 10, my itunes movies and TV shows grew to about 1.2TB of data, and I shifted them to an external drive.
I was able to edit the information via 'get info' until upgrading to iTunes 11.
Now all the information, bar the 'five stars' field are greyed out. If I shift a particular movie back to the internal drive, I can edit (genre, for example). Shift away again, get info greys out.
Any advice? It feels like iTunes thinks it has the wrong permissions.

I cannot find the next and previous button in iTunes get info menu?
Is there anyone that has also experienced this problem that can help me please
I have the lates version of Itunes

I have managed to figure out how to solve this problem, after looking around I saw a lot of people kept saying makesure it is list view however this still did not work, I found the only way for me get these buttons back was to change the Movie to a TV Show and only then did the "Next" and "Previous" button appear. Right Click> Get Info > Options > Media Kind and then Select TV Show, this is extremely inconvienent but the only way that I found that has worked so far.
Hope this works for you too!!

  • Volume slider in track info grays out with audio interface

I'm using a Presonus Inspire interface for mic and guitar. But in new tracks, the volume slider in track info grays out when I plug it in. Prefs recognizes the interface and I set audio in and out on Inspire. Signal comes through the headphones, but no signal in GB because the volume slider in track info is all the way to the left and grayed out.
    Ideas?
    Thanks!

  • ITunes menu items grayed out

I've had this happen with previous versions of iTunes and now with the most recent version of iTunes (running OS 10.7.2) all the iTunes Menu items are all grayed out, as well as all the other iTunes menues, with less than a hand full of commands availabe. Since the Quit iTunes is one of the options grayed out I've had to force quit iTunes and even after a relaunch the menu items continue to be grayed out. In search the Apple Communities for this subject I found references to this problem going back to 2008 and no one has offered a solution. One of the suggestions was to run Disk Utility and repair permissions, which I have done and it didn't solve the problem, but I hadn't restarted iTunes which I again did by force quitting, and on relaunch all the options are back working as they should. Not sure if repairing the permissions had any effect on iTunes as none of iTunes permissions were repaired, just scanner and printer permissions.

I have this same problem and it's very annoying.
What happens is this: I'll be happily editing my library when, after an edit, it suddenly becomes impossible to select "Get Info" to edit tracks. The menu item is grayed out and Command-I just gives a warning beep.
At this point, it is also impossible to Quit iTunes as that menu item is also grayed out and Command-Q also gives a warning beep.
One thing I have found is that I can still quit iTunes by right-clicking on the dock icon, obviating the need for a force quit.
Another symptom: the iTunes dock icon is constantly jumping up for things that it didn't used to jump for.
I've tried deleting the preference file. I haven't tried moving the library and library.xml files and rebuilding them, mostly because I've got 380GB of music on an Airdisk and it would take an eternity to rebuild the library.
I'm really fed up with this and have no idea what to do.
For what it's worth, the behavior started on my old machine running Snow Leopard and has continued after a clean install (albeit with iTunes information copied over) on a new machine running Lion (now 10.7.3).

  • Syncing "selected groups" of contacts via iTunes to iPad grayed out

I'm trying to sync only selected groups of contacts and selected calendars to my iPad 2 (iOS 8.1.2) from my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.10.1 Yosemite). I am syncing over wifi, but NOT over iCloud. However, when I go into iTunes, go to "Info", and try to select sync "Selected Groups" under Contacts or "Selected Calendars" under Calendars, both of these options are grayed out. Why??

I've had this issue myself and it was annoying. The only way I could get it to work again was Reset my iPad and start it as new.  Full discussion here:
iTunes shows deleted videos/songs etc on iPad when connected
I think you'll find the screenshots match what you see pretty much perfectly.

  • ITunes Get Info prompts missing

    OS 10.9.5, iTunes 12.01.
How do I get the year filled in on new videos?
The new "Get Info" doesn't have a prompt on new files for the year - and the "add fields" is grayed out:
Here's a "Get Info" from last week that does have the year field:
The release dates on EVERYTHING are totally messed up ... I can just make that column go away ... but the year thing seems like I'm missing something.

I figured it out! ... Change the file to a "Home Video" under Options in the Get Info tabs ... the Year prompt come up then! ... Then switch back to TV after fixing the year and it's all set :-)

  • After reinstalling, some of the songs in my library have 'get info' greyed out

This is really bizarre and getting me really frustrated. Like so many other people apparently tonight I got a notice to update and it screwed up iTunes. So I uninstalled everything and reinstalled iTunes. I made sure that I saved my library beforehand and reinstalled iTunes exactly where it used to be, which is D:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes. Media folder has not changed, it is under my iTunes program folder in D:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes Media.
After I reinstalled, I copied back my library file iTunes Library.itl, the Album Artwork and CD configuration folders in D:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes. Then I held the Shift key, restarted iTunes, selected my library file, and I was happy to see my library open again (and iTunes was working). All my settings have apparently been kept, including my Apple ID, CD import settings, etc...
But what has changed however is that some tracks (but not all, which is weird) are now apparently 'locked', meaning if I select a song and do "get info" all the information is greyed out and cannot be edited. But it's not all tracks. A lot of tracks are fine and normal. Even weirder, sometimes it's tracks from the same album that are mixed: so within an album, I can edit some tracks, and not others, info is greyed out.
This is really puzzling me and really ticking me off at the same time. It was working just fine last night. And now... my account has admin rights. I run Windows 7 64 bits, iTunes is 64 bits 11.1.4.62.
Even weirder: some tracks that 5 minutes ago were greyed out are now OK. ??? Could it be that it takes a while for iTunes to scan everything again and make everything available for editing? My library is rather big (150 gigs)... Can anybody help? Thanks very much in advance.

You need to find the file you want associated with that track.  It should be in a logical structure in your Media folder.  If you don't know how to find files or navigate the directories on your computer ask the IT person.  Once you have found the file iTunes may ask if you want it to find others, and if you're lucky it can.

  • Album art added via Itunes 'Get Info' not updating on iPhone 5

Im wanting to use Itunes specifically to add album artwork to my music which is managed manually. With the previous itunes version, it was a case of dragging and dropping a jpeg into the bottom left corner and hey presto! However, now...nothing.
Ive confirmed all manner of things/issues explained after "research" on the net. So far nothing has worked out. Ive confirmed that the artwork is jpeg (even tried png) and also that its not locked under any specific permissions in Windows 7.
To illustrate the annoyance of it, i can use a third party program to add the album art to an mp3 (prior to it being synced onto the iphone) and it will show up perfectly then! Now, you may be wondering 'why not just do that? problem solved'. Not quite. Windows is annoying to say the least especially with album artwork. Its all fine adding the artwork to mp3 files, but it then adds hidden artwork files in the folders themselves.
As i said before, i was able to do it manually with the previous itunes version but now im out of ideas. The 'Get Info' tab then onto 'Artwork' in itunes is where im trying to update the files. I can load them there, they will show on the files under itunes, but not on the iphone. As i manage my music manually ive also attempted to remove all tracks, re-sync and try and add again; nothing.
Any ideas would be much appreciated. Granted this can only be really described as an annoyance, but its annoying nonetheless.
    Peace

...all music that is on the iphone has been merely dragged and dropped from a generic windows folder.
Dragging music files directly from Windows and dropping onto the device?  I have no idea how that is even possible, but right there you're deviating from the intended design -- iTunes is meant to be the intermediary.
Are you suggesting that i first update the music in the itunes library and then drag & drop to the iphone? In a way, not manually manage the music?
Yes, that IS what what I'm suggesting, and that is what manually managing means in the iTunes world.  It is a media manager for your devices, and if you're bypassing it then its no wonder you're struggling.  It sounds like you're coming from a mp3 player perspective, and like it or not, that's not how i-devices work.
I'm sorry to say, but if you try to force things another way it will be a rocky relationship to say the least.

  • ITunes Store Button Grayed out in PC Preference

I have a new Macbook Pro. After all the files were migrated over, everything seemed fine with one exception:
I cannot access the iTunes Store.
When I go into preferences (in iTunes) and click on the store tab, it says that the iTunes Store is disabled in Parental preferences.
When I click on the Parental Control tab, the Disable/iTunes Store button is clicked on, but grayed out so I cannot click the disable button off to enable it.
I thought that there would be some sort of setting in System Preferences, but when I go to Parental Control settings there and click the unlock button, enter my password there are no parental controls listed.
And, my user account is set to allow user to admin computer.
I've already tried creating a new user account, but that didn't work either.
Anyone out there have a suggestion?

Just go to the main hard drive on your computer (mine is simply called, "Macintosh HD").
Do not go into the user folder, rather go into the "Library" folder on the main HD.
Inside that Library folder there is a folder called, "Managed Preferences."
When I said "...preferences in the main library folder," I was differentiating that from the preferences folder in your user folder. The user folder is not where you need to be.
It sounds like your problem may be different from mine though. I did not have a problem with connecting to the internet, just getting the iTunes store up. It sounds like you may be having an issue with the network preferences, or your actual internet connection.
    Are you getting email?
I also should add here while I'm at it, that this problem is quite persistent. Every time I reboot my Mac, I have to clean out the iTunes preferences in that managed prefs folder, inputting my admin password each time. A good friend of mine that is in IT is still trying to figure that one out, but at least I have a work-around in the meantime.

  • I've spent an hour plus googling this and none of the 'fixes' works. My custom ringtones show up fine in itunes but are grayed out in iphone when I try to sync. This just happened when I synced my phone: previously worked fine.

I've spent an hour on this: massively frustrating. My custom ringtones disappeared from iphone when I just sync'd and now show up in itunes/iphone interface (on the mac) grayed out: won't sync to phone. I know the audio files work because they were fine two hours ago! (iphone 5 running 8.1.3)

I had this problem too after i upgdatd to OS X Mavericks... only the songs on my iphone 5s that i purchased from itunes would play.
i read something about it being a syncing issue. when you plug your phone into your computer with the usb cable, the person said to switch from automatic syncing of itunes to the "manual" option. mine was already set to manual so i wasn't sure anything would work. BUT, when i plugged my phone into my computer, it started to sync all of my music on my phone again (top of itunes bar where song playing/time is listed said "now syncing 123/534 songs to x's iphone"). once that was completed, i checked the music app on my iphone and everything was back to normal!
so, i would suggest setting your music syncing settings to manual if you haven't tried that yet!
    hope this helps!

To confirm for other readers with this issue:
    The steps are:
    1) From the main screen of your AppleTV, select "Settings"
    2) Use the menus to navigate to iTunes Store->Location
    3) Select any location other than your current location.
    4) After it changes, repeat step 3 to select your actual location.
    5) Select Apple IDs
    6) Find your iTunes account and select it.
    7) Navigate back to the main screen and select "Music".
    8) The button to "Turn on iTunes Match" should appear. click it.
    9) The spinning circle should stop in less than 30 seconds and be replaced by a progress bar.
    Enjoy your music!
