ITunes 11: Library filename not displyed

I recently upgraded to iTunes 11 from 10.7 and so far, I hate it. I did get 11 to [mostly] look like 10.7, but the loaded library filename is longer displayed anywhere in the iTunes window.
This is especially annoying as I own multiple "i" devices, each of which has its own .itl library file. In previous versions the name of the library file was prominently displayed atop the iTunes window. Now, that all imposrtant convenience has vanished and there's no way to know what library has been loaded.
I've gone through every preference and view option and nothing restores this feature -- unless I can tell at a glance what library is loaded I'll be forced to downgrade back to 10.7 (and option that sounds more tempting by the moment).
If anyone knows how to enable the library filename display I would very appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks!

Another disgruntled customer with latest version of iTunes! I have been using since 2004 and have always been pleased with regular upgrades. Back in 2004 I was working with PCs, planning my retirement and the lack of a company IT support I decided to move to MAC in 2010.....surprise the MAC version of iTunes did not display the library name, this at a time when I was developing the use of multiple libraries for home (Lossless) and on the move (MP3 192 & AAC128 for testing). On several occasions I made mistakes and spent many hours to recover, with a 4000 CD collection this was quite a pain.
I complained on many occasions to Apple both on line feedback and verbally to specialists in London main Apple Stores....I never received any feedback but surprise in late 2011 early 2012 the MAC updates started to include the library name in the header making the MAC version look very similar to PC.
I still use old Windows laptops for compatibility with family and friends and was surprised to find this info had also gone from PCs....we can hope this is an error from Apple in what has become a major App and hope they will either realise or listen to customer feedback and remedy.
From boblisham comment and suggestion to display Library name I assume he is using a PC?
Option with MAC is similar but you first go to iTunes menu, select Preferences and General Tab shows with Library name in the first window.
If any of you are keen iTunes user I can only invite you to feedback using "Provide iTunes feedback" under the main iTunes menu.
Good luck all.

  • ITunes Music Library.xml not updating when adding new songs

I have about 150.000 music tracks on my iMac and iTunes didnt have any difficulty with it. When using the songs in DJ program Native Instruments Traktor Pro, this program checked the latest update of the iTunes Music Library.xml file and everything went ok. Whenever I changed a smart playlist or added songs, my Traktor looked at the updated .xml file and Traktor updated it's own files.
SUDDENLY, and I dont know why, this iTunes Music Library.xml file did not update anymore. Whenever I change a song or add a song, the 'update date' in my finder next to the iTunes Music Library.xml file stays the same (1 May 2010) This means my DJ software does not show the updated/added songs...
Plse help... what should I do... I am a professional DJ and I especially bought this iMac for the purpose of DJ'ing. Because of this issue, I can't use it anymore...

try if the suggestions in this thread help: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2168081&tstart=0.

  • HT1349 I have registered with my local library and can download books.  But these are not being shown in ITunes, the Library does not show 'audiobooks'.  I have an ipod 6G.  can anyone help please?

I have recently purchased (from the States) an ipod nano 6th generation.  I belong to a local library and can download books from the audiobooks online section.  Problem is, my iPod when synced to iTunes, does not show Library as a category and audiobooks.  For some reason, it is allowing me to download the books to my iPod, but I am unable to delete them from the iPod, and also, it is giving an echo (I think somehow it is downloading twice which is giving an echo effect).  Not sure what is going on, but if anyone can advise me on this I would be very grateful.

    Hello mrsbonniesue
If you have an issue with the audiobook showing up in music, check to see if those tracks are labeled as audio books or music. The article below will explained as well as I have highlighted the main portion for changing that information.
iTunes 11 for Windows: Edit song and CD information
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12360
Identify an item that you imported from a CD as an audiobook, so it appears under Audiobooks instead of Music (click the Options button and choose Audiobook from the Media Kind pop-up menu). If you do this, iTunes also remembers your place in the audiobook

  • How do I re-install music to iPhone 4 with iOS 7?  Music is in iTunes, but library will not sync.

I removed my music to install iOS 7. Now, I can't re-install my music to my iPhone 4.  Only purchased music syncs, not my entire library of songs.  All my songs are listed in iTunes, but it won't sync.  Also I see some exclamation points stasting it can't locate songs, but they are listed in the iTunes library.

  • I am going to have to buy a new computer, am I going to lose my entire iTunes music library? Not just my purchased music, but all that I've added myself?  We're talking over 10,000 songs!

Is it possible to just sign in to my acct. on any computer?  If not, how do you suggest I save my acct. and ALL my music & podcasts?  Help please!

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS devicefor advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Why do my previous purchases show in my iTunes music library but not accessible??, Why do my previous purchases show in my iTunes music library but not accessible??

I received my new Macbook Pro today and have attempted to sync my iphone 4s with it, unfortunately like a bit of a moron I've ended up wiping all my music on my iphone.
I have then gone into Itunes and re-downloaded all my previous purchases (music tracks). They have all appeared in my music library but all but 4 are greyed out, will not play and will not allow me to do anything with them!
Can anyone help me, help the Mac newby sort his life out! I'd be lost without them and more to the point would have lost a fortune in music I'd paid for if I couldn't get them back!!
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Try here:
iOS: Unable to import photos or device not recognized as a camera
roaminggnome, it is normal and expected for the iPod to show in My Computer on a PC. That is part of the computer recognizing it as a camera for getting photos off the iPod.

  • Itunes music library is not showing all my music

I have a random problem with iTunes and I hope someone can help.
I have just under 1500 tracks on my macbook, all stored in the iTunes library folder where they should be. However, when I open iTunes, it says it cannot find the original file for loads of my music (there is a little '!' symbol on the left hand side).
I get the option to search for the original file and I just go to the iTunes library folder and there it is, along with all my other music that iTunes can see!
This is a random problem as when I open iTunes, its not always the same tracks it cant find, its always different ones.
It affects about 20% of my music each time.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers, Jus

    try this:
quit iTunes. move the following file to the desktop: <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/library/preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist
fire up iTunes (which will create a new .plist file). if it works now you can trash the plist file you moved to the desktop.
if still no joy, here are some useful tools:
    _*iTunes Track CPR v1.3*_
This script attempts to locate the files of so-called "dead tracks"--iTunes tracks designated with (!)--that you assume are not actually missing but are still located in the iTunes Music folder in their "iTunes File Order" (Music -> Artist -> Album -> file.xxx)."
    and
_*Music Folder Files Not Added v2.0*_
This application will list the file paths of the files in your designated "iTunes Media" folder which are not in iTunes' library. Additionally, you can select a different parent folder and its contents will be compared to the iTunes library. Options to Add a selection of found files to iTunes or move them to the Trash.

  • Artwork in Itunes music library but not on my Ipod

Only got my Ipod at the weekend so don't know if I'm doing something wrong but I've enabled the option for album artwork and click on get artwork for each album I have transferred into my library. The artwork appears in my library but on my Ipod many of the albums that have the artwork in the library aren't appearing on my Ipod.
    Anyone know why this is?

It is possible that you have not selected the option to have your iPod show album artwork. Here is how to check:
Plug your iPod into your computer
Click on you iPod when it appears under DEVICES on the left of the iTunes screen
Your iPod should appear on the screen under a tab named Summary. Click on the tab titled Music
There is a check box on the very bottom of the list on the Music tab called "Display album artwork on your iPod" If this is not checked, then check it.
Then click Apply in the lower right corner of the screen, then click Sync, also in the lower right of the screen
This should fix the problem and upload the album artwork onto your iPod

  • TS1510 My iTunes song library is not synching with my iPod Shuffle.I go to the devices tab, and the snych link is gray and not highlighted.  Does anybody know how I can transfer these songs onto my shuffle ?

I got a little Ipod shuffle as a stocking stuffer.  I spent lots of money downloading songs to my library.  My shuffle was plugged into my computer, and I thought my songs were being synched onto the shuffle.  They were not.  I returned to my iTunes account and went to devices, and the sync tab is not highlighted. It's gray.  How can I download the songs in my library to my shuffle ?
    thanks, Bob

Thanks for that information my friend.  I KNOW THAT -- but that was one of only three options they require us to submit, and none match our/my issue under community help forum.  I believe they should broaden that spectrum.  You seem like someone who is very well-versed in Apple products, it would have been nice of you to offer some sort of help, instead of telling me, and others, that this is an iPhone forum. Happy New Year...

  • ITunes music library will not update on iPod after syncing

I did a computer swipe a number of months ago and was only just recently able to recover my iTunes account.  So fortunately I have all my music still (well most of it.  Some of my file locations are missing but that is user error).
Now, yesterday I synced my iPod for the first time since the clean sweep.  I was annoyed that the process completely cleaned out my iPod (of course it was not backed up because I had no way of syncing it to my account) so I lost everything except the music.
Here's the problem:  while I can play iTunes on my laptop, none of the songs are being properly downloaded onto the iPod.  All the titles and information show up like they should, but they are greyed out so you cannot select them.
I've tried re-syncing several times and even rebooted my laptop and re-syncing to no avail.
My iPod is literally empty like when I first got it brand new but I can't play my music.
Any ideas?  I'm at my last straw.

Is the iPod signed in the iTunes account? (Settings>Store)
Next I would try restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod and then sync.

  • ITunes library filename

    Hello,
I am using iTunes 10.6.1. Since I am using Alarm Clock 2 application, which uses my iTunes library to wake me up in the morning, I always need to export my up-to-dated library with "iTunes Music Library" filename. But the default name of this library, automatically updated by iTunes, is "iTunes Library". In this case, Alarm Clock is not able to read my iTunes library. How can I solve this problem? Is there a way to make iTunes save automatically the library filename as "iTunes Music Library"?
    Kind regards
    Raffaele

    See
    <http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660>
for info on iTunes library files. Basically, Alarm Clock 2 (about which I know nothing) should access iTunes Library.xml, which is created and updated automatically by iTunes for other apps. You can try to rename this file iTunes Music Library.xml; iTunes might continue to update it (it does on my Mac, presumably because it's been inherited from way back). Or there might be some way of making Alarm Clock 2 look for 'iTunes Library' instead of 'iTunes Music Library'—either a setting within Alarm Clock 2, or by using an alias or symbolic link.

  • Bug: iTunes Music Library Not Showing Song Name Category

As the title says: the iTunes Music library does not the track/song name category.
I realized this after clicking "Auto Size All Columns" after a fresh install of iTunes. The track/song name disappears from the current view, and isn't an option when right-clicking the categories.

  • Syncing itunes music library to iphone 4s

I have recently upgraded from an iphone 3gs to an Iphone 4s.  I have successfully transferred all my apps, data etc to the new phone but my itunes music library will not sync.  The songs are showing in my music, but 90% of them are greyed out and some tracks are duplicated!.  I have tried removing itunes from my pc (I have windows xp by the way!) and re-installing it.  this has not worked.  I have tried 'downloads' from itunes from my phone and this has frozen on the first track saying download error.  I have phoned Apple support where i spent over 2 hours (on 2 occassions) trying to sort the issue out and it still doesn't work.  Please help I am getting very frustrated and don't know what to do next, surely its not meant to be this difficult to listen to a song!!!  Thankyou
