ITunes 11 locking up when video library is selected

iTunes 11 is completely locking up my PC when I try to view the video library; viewing and navigating songs, artists, and playlists is not a problem.  After selecting the video library, the  only way to get out of the app is to shut it down with the Task Manager.  PC is running Vista on a Centrino Duo CPU.  The iTunes library resides on a NAS drive.
Thoughts, anyone?

Looks like new firmware upgrade solved this issue.

iTune Software locks up when I connect my iPod Classic and it does not recognize iPod is connected and does not sync musice as it use to.  Looking for ideas to try.  Running updated iTune software and have reset iPod?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
It also could be due to a defective Lightning cable. Other uses have had problems with the cable.

Not if you first do a sync and have iTunes make a backup. However, if your only copy of the iTunes data is in the Touch, then you need to first copy the data to a new iTunes Library using third-party software such as Phone To Mac.

  • "show in itunes store" command missing from video library

updated to itunes 11.1, and ios7.
This isn't a pro or con diatribe, just a list of the minorish bugs that i have noticed:
    First (probable?) bug:
With the latest update, the (control click) "show in itunes store" command is missing from all video layouts (unwatched, shows, genres) except "list".
I assume this is just a temporary bug, as it limits easy access to purchasable store content.
This is especially important since "check for available downloads", while still around, has been, as far as i can tell, completely nonfunctional for months.
I now have all my email notifications for passes turned on, and just manually click on the emails to download new content.
However, especially for shows with extra content, sometimes the email doesn't download the actual show, just the extra content.
for this reason, and for non pass shows, and just for general shopping and impulse buys, I liked to use the "show in itunes store" to easily check shows that i am currently interested in.
except that now it is gone.
    Another (probable) bug:
I have a lot of purchased content, so i have the cloud turned off to control the flow of menu information.  i don't need to see everything i have purchased all the time, only the newest shows that i actually have loaded onto the ipad.  I still just load in the shows i want to watch from my main computer after i have downloaded them from apple to the hard drive, which i guess is now a bit old fashioned.  ios7 doesn't seem to like this very much, as it initially displays the cloud content when opening the "video" app, before blanking and replacing it with the edited down version. But the real bug is this:
Now when i delete a video on the ipad, it crashes the "video" app.
And, instead of recognizing the delete when i sync to the computer, it ignores it and reloads the video onto the ipad.
    ......And finally:
There is still a tendency for the ipad and itunes to throw up the "sign in" pop up, often multiple times in a row, anywhere and for no reason, even when i am already signed in. Sometimes i can just hit "cancel" and it disappears, other times it forces me to retype my password.  It's gotten a lot better and less frequent than when it first started earlier this year, but it's still around.
Having said this, I'm still, of course, a huge fan of the change earlier this year that keeps track of purchases and allows me redownload, instead of the old "lose it and its gone, tough luck" policy.

Ha.  Maybe it's just me then.  When i control click on a show, i'm getting:
In Library/TV Shows:  Unwatched, Shows, and Genres:
    play "[show]"
    mark as watched
    mark as unwatched
    [depending on blue dot]
    get info
    rating
    show description
    show in finder
    reset plays
    show in playlist
    copy
as opposed to, in List (and everywhere else):
    play "[show]"
    mark as watched
    mark as unwatched
    [depending on blue dot]
    get info
    rating
    show description
    show in finder
    show in itunes store
    get album artwork
    reset plays
    consolidate files
    new playlist from selection
    add to playlist
    show in playlist
    copy
    delete
    uncheck selection
    apply sort field
I have my sidebar turned on, but it doesn't seem to make a difference if it is showing or not.
I looked around in settings, view, and window for a way to modify the control click menu, but couldn't find anything.
    It's a very minor issue.
If your menu is working, maybe I just need to delete my copy of itunes and reinstall.  Or change a setting somewhere.

  • ITunes / iPod locking up when during music and file transfers!

I'm having this problem with all 3 iPods in my household, but all on the same machine (20" iMac G5).
Quite often, when hooking up my iPod to transfer songs, or graphics files the whole thing just locks up. My "do not disconnect" screen freezes, and in iTunes I just get the spinning ball FOREVER. iTunes WILL NOT force quit, nor will it eject my iPod. Most of the time I have to force my computer to shut down because it will not do anything else.
I have no idea if it is my machine, or the iPods, or iTunes. I've checked and repaired permissions, and I've also run Tech Tool Pro. Nothing seems to resolve this issue.
    Please... can anyone help?

I have a smiliar problem. Sometimes my iPod just gets "stuck" on the upload of certain songs (always different songs). It will just stay uploading the same song forever! so I have to unplug my iPod (even though it says "do not disconnect") and force quit iTunes. A few times I have had to force a shut down of my computer and twice when I did that all of my Favorite on FireFox dissapeared, my desktop was the default blue, my tool bar was defalut and my iTunes library was missing! I got all the songs back, but had to spend HOURS re-doing all of the playlists and then re-uploading everthiing to my iPod.
I avoided this the latest time by only uploading one playlist at a time, but it was very time consuming and still got "stuck" twice!
Any suggestions?? I have the extended protection plan on my computer and ipod...

  • Itunes store locks up when trying to search

    Hello all
I am running itunes 9.1.1 on a pc I built just a few weeks ago. I'm using windows 7 64 bit. My problem is that when I try to search the Itunes store, itunes locks up and must be forced closed with the task manager. I can still get to my libraries and music, but i cannot close the program.
I've found that if i flush the DNS using ipconfig that the search function works temporarily but will eventually go back to locking up on me.
    Any advice is welcome.

  • ITunes 7 locks up when I plug in my SLVR phone.

iTunes works untill I plug in my SLVR phone. Then it locks up. The old iTunes software worked. I hope somebody at Apple wil contact me to tell me what my problem is.

Have you tried asking them? This is a user supported forum, hardly any Apple employees even look in here aside from moderating. I would recommend that you go to this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
and see if you can find your answer there. You can also submit your question to an actual employee through that page, so give it a try.
And, from personal experience I can tell you that I received an answer back when submitting a question within 24 hours, so it should not take too long.

  • ITunes Locks up when Library moved to NAS

I recently bought a Synology DS1511+ NAS in part to store my growing iTunes library. So I followed Apple's directions for moving my iTunes Library; changed the default library location to a share on my nas, then consolidate the library to have iTunes copy everything to the new location, and finally moved the library database files. However, After I would get done watching a movie, which would play fine, iTunes would lock up consistently when I would try to click on another section like music, aps, and ect... When I moved my library back to local storage no lockups. Does anybody have any ideas? I know more and more people are using a NAS to storage their iTunes Librarys, so I thought this would be pretty simple. I'm running Windows 7 64 with a 1 GIGBIT network connection to my PC and NAS.

If it works fine when the library is local but locks up when the library is on the NAS, that would indcate either problems with the NAS or the network.

  • Itunes locks up when trying to import CD

My itunes software locks up when trying to import a CD. Specifically, it will import 1 full CD then lock up when trying to access the artwork. I went into "properties" and stopped the software from looking for artwork, rebooted the machine and was able to import 1 CD, then it would not recognize the next one. I tried 3 different CD's and none of them worked. I am running the most recent version of itunes. Any thoughts?

Help! I have the same problem! I am running Windows XP SP3 and Itunes 8.0.2.20. I imported about a dozen cd's and then the imports started locking up the whole system. I had to power the pc off to get things running again. I have two cd drives installed and both fail. I tried disconnecting the network cable, and it still locked up. Any ideas??

  • I'm using Windows 8.  I have 2 folders in my videos library - movies and personal videos.  When I try to import a movie into iTunes, it puts it in the Home Video section and if I import a personal video, it puts it into the home video section.  what up?

Im using Win8.  I originally had all my ripped movies in a movie folder listed in the videos library.  This imported into iTunes movies with no issue.  I later added a second folder t my library - personal videos where i put all my home videos.  I was able to import this into iTunes and it showed up in "Home Movies" - very cool and exactly what I wanted.  Now, if I add a new ripped movie and put it in my movie librairy and try to import it into iTunes, it places it in Home Movies.  And if I put a new personal video, it will also import into iTunes under 'Home Video?.  What is going on here??  Any help would be greatly appreciated - it seems like this is a bug in iTunes 11.

I thank you for the response.  Apple does some assinine things sometimes and this is one of them.  Ask the planet the difference between a movie and a home video and with the exception of Apple, you'd get 100% consenus on the what difference is.  A home video is something that I shoot, like my kids birthday party.  A movie is something I urchased either via download or a DVD that I ripped.  Unbelievable!   The fact that Apple has chosen not to distinguish based upon which folder I tell it is Movies and which folder is Home Videos is really hard to fathom - sounds like something Windows would do. I find it funny that in my iTunes movies sub-section of the movies section, the movie icons have a cloud icon in upper right corner to distinguish it as bought from Apple iTunes versus no cloud icon for movies that I have ripped - so the distintion was already made and clearly visible.  Now - everything just defaults to "home videos" if I try to import a new ripped DVD - why even bother to have this distinction on the iTunes bar?  WOW!
As for your direction, I do not understand what you are telling me - what Media Kind and what Options tab are you referring to?  I see no Options tab in iTunes.  Right licking on the movie icon does not yield media kind or options as well.  Gping to the source file does not yield these options either.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • ITunes locking up when trying to play videos

Every time I try and play a movie in iTunes it locks up and freezes my computer. Any ideas why this might be happening? I have 384 mb of RAM and am using Windows XP this seems like it should be sufficiant according to apple's requirements. Please Help!

What's the clock speed on your Vaio's processor? According to what little I can find on that model's specs, it may be only 1.13 GHz, while to play videos reliably in iTunes requires a processor speed of 1.5GHz or better.

  • ITunes for Windows freezes when importing a library. I have a large but not huge library of mostly iTunes purchased music on two authorized computers and would like to sync the files, export the library as a playlist, and import it on the other computer.

I am running iTunes for Windows 10.2.2 on Windows 7 Home. I have my iTunes library on both this computer and another authorized machine running Windows 7 Professional. I have a large but not enormous library, as I'm one of those people who doesn't pirate, use torrents, borrow from a dozen friends, or whatever other shades of gray you might imagine. It's mostly iTunes purchases with my old CD collection imported. I have started using the following technique to sync my libraries between my two authorized computers, an ability which you can probably all agree should one day be added to iTunes -- that would be different from Home Sharing, because the music would be stored locally and thus available on the road. With the added benefit of the entire library being backed up on the other machine in real-time. Anyway, when I switch from my desktop to laptop and vice versa, I use the following technique:
Connect both machines to the home network. One machine is the "Active" machine, which has most recently been used for iTunes media, purchases, ratings, etc.
On the "Active" machine, File-->Library-->Export. Save the file as "Library.xml" on the shared drive of the other machine.
Right-click "Library.xml" where it's been saved, and open another file that has two lines in it: The root path of the iTunes library on one machine and the root path of the iTunes library on the other machine.
Do a find/replace all in Notepad to make the library XML file point to where the files will be saved on the "Inactive" machine.
Run Microsoft SyncToy to synchronize the files between both music libraries; the most recent files win. This avoids copying the entire multi-gigabyte library over the network.
Open iTunes on the "Inactive" machine.
Go to Music, Select All, Delete. Keep files.
Do the same for Movies, Music Videos.
Go down to Playlists, select the top one, hold down the delete button until they're all gone.
File-->Library-->Import Playlist. Choose the "Library.xml" file you saved.
First a status bar comes up that says, "Importing library." It has the continually-scrolling progress bar, not the one that starts on the left and steadily creeps right. Then after about 30 seconds, that clears out. Wait. Typically a few minutes. Eventually a status bar will pop up saying something like, "Evaluating gapless playback information," or something like that.
The "Inactive" computer is now the "Active" computer. I can now play my library, it has all my playlists and metadata from the other machine.
Delete all the duplicate playlists named "Music," "Genius," "Purchased," and "iTunes DJ."
Well, I just upgraded to iTunes 10.2.2 a few days ago and tried to do this again like I've done it dozens of times before. Now, iTunes just goes unresponsive after the library import. It got through the "Importing library" bar to the long wait and stopped. I can still multiprocess and use other programs, but iTunes is hovering back there not responding to clicks. Task Manager doesn't seem to think iTunes is using my CPU, and I don't see my hard drive rattling. Any thoughts on why iTunes might hang up when importing a large library?
... Also, please help lobby Apple to come up with a network sync tool built into iTunes for a user with multiple authorized computers. Something different than Home Sharing so I can pull my laptop off the network and still have the synced library with me. And all my metadata changes will sync. The technique I use seems a little kludgey, don't you think?

iTunes isn't an editor. You need an app that's intended for editing audio files, like Adobe Audition (http://www.adobe.com/products/audition.html) or Audacity (free in the App Store).

Copy all the contents currently on your iPod Classic to your new iTunes library and then choose the Erase and Sync option. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • ITunes locking up with Video Files

I have a 30gig iPod video. I have been buying some rather large Videos, I get them into iTunes no problem, but when I try to click and drag them over to my iPod in the source pane my PC locks up and I need to reboot. I also tried doing an automatic update to the ipod and the pod does not recieve the files. What's up?

Does your computer just hand there or ur itunes freezes? Since you say you have been buying large videos, this may cause your computer to hang for a while. Try it again and be patient. Maybe start it, have a snack or watch some tv or something and then check if it sends.
