ITunes 11 not responding on my mac.

Have tried removing the .plist files but that didn't work, although it did try to start opening the library but then went to not responding again. Any ideas please?

I'm having similar problems.  I looked at the Activity Monitor and saw that iTunes was using over 4GB of memory. When I try to quit iTunes it will show "Not Responding" but eventually the memory creeps back down then it quits. The process takes "foooorrreeeeeeevvvvverrrr" (a nod to The Sandlot). Not sure what the deal is but this wasn't an issue in the previous version. Please fix this Apple smart people.

You need a firewire cable (6 pin to 4 pin). These are very cheap online if you Google, or you can find at Radio Shack etc.

Thanks so much but none of that helped.  It was driving me crazy because it would back up another external drive.  I just changed the name of the drive from iPhoto/iTunes Library to Media Libraries and IT WORKED!! I guess for some reason it didn't like the drive being called iPhoto or iTunes ???? I don't understand but I have tried so many solutions and exchanging things out but the name change did it????!!!
Thank you for your help and replying to this.  Guess I made my own issue!

Itunes is not working on my mac. I'm trying to redeem a gift card and everytime I enter my password it does not work.  Also, when I try and browse songs, everything is blank

It's been a while but it should work on a Mac because Macs can read Windows formatted devices. Otherwise, you can perform a restore operation to return it to the Mac format. If you go to support.apple.com/manuals/ you can find a copy of the user manual for the model you have in which this is all explained.

    - Try here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - Next try a different computer to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem.

  • ITunes 8 not responding

When I open iTunes 8 it looks like it starts "Genius - Gathering information about your library" and it starts downloading something. Then it immediately hangs. The task manager says iTunes is not responding. I cannot make windows vista kill the process. When I reboot, Vista hangs on logout (only when iTunes is hung). I have to do a hard power cycle.
I uninstalled and re-installed iTunes 8 but that didn't help. I've tried letting it go overnight to see if iTunes was just busy, but that didn't help.
The impact is that I simply can't use iTunes since it's always hung.
    Any advice?

Well. You bumped your post so I just saw it. You are no longer alone. ; )
Security software can certainly make itunes hinky!
You mentioned itunes went back to the default location, not using G: any more. That can happen if itunes doesn't see G: when it starts. Always make sure your G: drive is operational BEFORE starting itunes.
Better yet, assign it a permanent drive letter of G: in Windows. Windows has a nasty habit of changing drive letters on you depending what you've plugged into USB ports. Your exHD could suddenly become H: and itunes will lose all the music paths.

  • ITunes is not responding after transferring files to iPod Touch

I upgraded iTunes to iTunes 8.2.0.23 last week. I have a first generation iPod Touch (8 GB) running v. 2.2.1. Since upgrading iTunes, after copying new files onto my iPod Touch, both iTunes and the Touch indicate "Syncing in progress" for several minutes after the files have been copied. Eventually, the Touch's screen will stop displaying the syncing message and turn itself off but iTunes stays on "Syncing in progress". I am unable to eject the Touch (although I know I don't have to). In fact iTunes is completely locked up. When I go to the Windows Task Manager, it shows that iTunes is not responding. I end the task there and it closes iTunes. This happens every time I add new files to the Touch.
I've read in various discussion pages about similar problems occuring but they all involve Version 3.0 Touch's or iPhones. Perhaps this is something particular with iTunes 8.2.0.23. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The issue was, I store my music on my Windows Home Server and had my iTunes library connected to it over the network. When I transferred my music locally to my computer, the issue stopped. So, I guess the answer is, don't sync your iTunes library from a Windows Home Server.

  • Overdrive Media Console/iPhone Problem Resolved-"iTunes is not responding, bring iTunes to the front and check status.

I could not download books from Overdrive Media Console from my iMac desktop. I realized if I turned off iTunes Match in my iphone, it fixed the problem. On your iphone...Go to "Setting", scroll down to "Music" and turn off iTunes Match. i Tunes match is a music subscription service that I had purchased a few weeks ago. I could not figure out when I tried to download audiobooks from Overdrive I got the following message "iTunes is not responding, bring iTunes to the front and check status". Problem solved. I hope this helps others who are experiencing the same problem!

I'm assuming you are talking about audiobooks and if so, just download all the parts in overdrive media console then locate them in your finder. Go into Itunes and go File > Add new files to Library. Go select all the mp3s and upload them onto your library. Sync your iPhone with it and that is what has worked for me Hope this helps!

  • ITunes will not quit properly in Mac OS X Yosemite - force quit required

I upgraded to to Mac OS X Yosemite last week and have updated all of my other software as the updates became available.  Since the update, iTunes has not always worked properly (e.g., recognizing devices when they are plugged in).  However, the one consistent bug is that iTunes will not quit.  Regardless of how I try to quit the application (menu, dock, computer shut down/restart) it will not quit.  No beach ball appears and in the "force quit" menu it does not show as "not responding".  In fact, I can still continue to use iTunes after trying to quit the application.
The only way to exit the application is by force quitting.  I would prefer to not continue to do this but I have been unable to find a solution.
    Thanks,
    Alan

  • TS1368 iTunes is not responding when placing a request in the search bar

i have been trying to add some items to my new ipad, all of the sudden i cannot get a reply back from apple when trying to download some free apps. that was 4 hours ago, all of the sudden i cannot connect using my mac? whats the deal with apple and why hasnt this been fixed yet? all of the sudden iTunes on the Mac is acting all funny?

This seems to have worked for me.
The left hand side of the Search box has a magnifying glass with an upside-down triangle next to it.  Hover over the magnifying glass icon, right click (ie Cmd-click) and then uncheck "Search Entire Library" option.
Let me know if that helps.  It stopped the "Not Responding" and long hang I was experiencing.

  • Itunes will not respond

my sister has an about two year old macbook, her itunes has been working fine through out the two years but today suddenly would not respond the icon was in the dock but when it was clicked on nothing would open
    please help?!?!

It just occurred to me that I haven't yet checked this...
What version of Mac OS X is installed on this iMac?
Click your Apple menu and choose About This Mac
What are the three numbers listed next to "version"?
I'm assuming you're trying to launch iTunes from its icon in the dock.
Drag the iTunes icon out of the dock, so that it disappears
Open the Applications folder, double click iTunes, and let us know what happens.
Since we've reinstalled iTunes, check and see if the iTunes preferences file is there.
    Go to: /User/Library/Preferences/
    Look for com.apple.itunes.plist and com.apple.ituneshelper.plist
If they are there this time, delete them, and try double-clicking iTunes from Applications again
