ITunes 11 Podcasts Going into Unknown Album

I upgraded to iTunes 11 recently. It worked welll for a few days, but today some of my podcasts began to download into an Unknown Album even though they appeared in the correct location prior to download. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I never experienced it on any previous version of iTunes.

Simply restarting iTunes seemed to work for me.

Had the same problem on my Macbook Pro. Closing and re-opening itunes corrected that.

ITunes merges unrelated songs into one album?

Hey all, I've tried repeatedly to fix this problem and haven't had any luck. I recently added an album to iTunes (11.4) and the following things happened:
1) Under "albums" view, each song from the album had its own separate entry in albums (same album art and title, several entries with one song each).
2) After I repeatedly consolidated them into one album, they finally stayed together...
3) ...but suddenly 100+ other songs joined them in that album.
Now over a hundred of my songs are considered part of the same album--everything from Johnny Cash to Yoko Kanno is considered part of "Awesome Mix Vol. 1". I have no idea why these songs in particular were chosen, but whatever is happening overwrites their album information as well as their album art while leaving everything else intact. It's not even consistent regarding which albums it messes with--SOME of Abbey Road is now part of Awesome Mix while some is not.
I've changed the tags back a dozen times. I've even used a program like TuneUp to do so automatically. Every time I do so it eventually changes back--I think the Awesome Mix category is saved into iCloud or something. Has anyone encountered this before and can they suggest any fixes? I am going nuts. These are awesome songs, but they don't belong in Awesome Mix.

In iTunes an "album" is any collection of tracks with the same Album title and the same Album Artist, or Artist if Album Artist is blank, or for which Part of a compilation is true. This can be further complicated by inappropriate values in the various sort fields. See Grouping tracks into albums for more.

Audio podcasts going into show folders, but not video podcasts

After upgrading to iTunes 7, I've noticed my video podcasts are not going into the proper show folders, but rather just being dumped into the ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library/Podcasts/ directory. Audio podcasts are working fine though, and each get moved into their proper show folders. Its just highly annoying, because most of the video podcasts don't have descriptive names, just the date of release, so its confusing when I go to burn some off to DVD (my podcasts directory, I keep at around 10gigs, and thats just the current stuff). Its not just *.mov, but *.m4v's as well. Anyway to fix this?

Downloads from iTunes are not going into my library

When I download songs and podcasts from iTunes on my iPhone they seem to download fine but they do not go into my library. Any ideas? All software is up to date.

I am using the same account. It happened once before and all I did was connect it to iTunes and it seemed to sort itself. I tried connecting it again but it doesn't seem to have worked this time. My purchases went into my library before when I purchased from the store on my iphone and I haven't changed any settings that would stop this. When I say my library, I mean the songs and podcasts don't appear on my iPhone when I purchase from it.

ITunes separated my cd into 3 albums

How do I fix this? My one imported cd became 3 albums. Tracks 1-30 are one album, track 31 is a second album and tracks 32-42 are on a third album. All the albums are the same name, same artist, same composer, same artwork. I can;t figure out how to get iTunes to recognize that this is one cd. These tracks were copied from an original cd, not downloaded.

Maybe you need to check the compilations box?

Also, I noticed Gracenote has very bad tags for the last compilation CD I ripped. I had to fiddle with it to get the tags straight. Someone had entered a 4-disc set as "xxx" for the first three discs, then "xxx(Disc 4)" for the last disc.

ITunes Match Unknown albums

Hi everybody,
I'm experiencing some small issues after subscribing for iTunes Match.
1) Some songs are not matched. I'm wandering if this can be sorted out by providing more precise information (e.g. album) or if iTunes just take an audio snapshot of each song so there's no way to improve the match.
2) Some songs are matched but iTunes Match labels them as Unknown album. How is it possibile if they are matched with the iTunes Store? And how to fix this issue? Do I have to look for the album by myself and type it?

1. Yes, some songs will not match but will be uploaded. There is very little that can be done to force this process. You might want to visit the iTunes Match forum, do a search, and see if you want to try out any of the tips you find for forcing a track to match. There is no guarantee any of them will work, though.
2. Applying metadata from the iTunes Store is not a feature of the iTM service. If you did not have metadata before enabling the service you won't get it from the store after enabling it. If the tracks are ripped from CD you can try searching the gracenote DB by highlighting the tracks, right-clicking and choose "get track names." But this does not always work. Otherwise, if you know the information for the "unknown" tracks you're better off just entering it yourself.

But, as your problem is well known ...
The way iTunes groups files (songs) into a Album depends on the entry in "Album" if "Sort by Album Name" is checked.
All songs from an Album should have the same entry in the "Album" and "Album Artist" field.
To regroup the albums choose all songs from the album at once (cmd+click) right click -> get Info -> and put the appropriate info in the two fields.
If you sort your Albums by other information e.g. composer, the songs get grouped by this feature.

1 Album in Itunes.... 2 Albums on Iphone?

Hi There.
Sometimes it's the smallest things that can drive you crazy...
Background: I have a iphone 3gs running iOS 6.1.3 and am using a Macbook Air with itunes 11.0.3.
About 5 out of about 100 of my albums show up as 1 album in itunes, but are split into two albums, under the albums view on my iphone. I have got through and checked every piece of metadata and I can't figure out why it is doing this for the life of me. Also, it isn't like one album has 1, 3, 5, etc. and the other just the missing album (2), but there seems to be overlap on both albums on my iphone... aka (1,2,3) and (1,2,3) on both with a difference or two. The albums are the Beatles past masters and the white album.
I have implemented a known workaround, which temporarily fixed it, by selecting all of the songs on 1 album and selecting "Part of a Compilations" on the Get Info tab. However since I have itunes consolidating and organizing my library, the Beatles albums are not showing up under a folder called "Compilations", which just isn't right!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, so I can sleep soundly tonight! Thanks in advance for your help and time.

I just re-entered some info and unchecked the missing song's "part of a compilation", I have now the album missing one song, and an album with only that missing song..... I dunno what's happening!

I've been importing all my old CDs into itunes but one of them which was unknown imported as single tracks. How can I combine these into one album

I've been importing all my old CDs into itunes but one of them which came up as unknown has imported as single tracks named track 1, track 2 etc. It wasn't an obscure CD (Paul Carrack - the journey so far) but not one that's available in the itunes store. I've manually changed the track names but they all appear as single tracks in the "Albums" section. Is there a way to put them all into an album to show up as an album with the other albums. Other "unknown" CDs I imported have imported with the correct track names but just don't have the album artwork so I don't understand why this one is behaving totally different?

If you select the tracks all together in iTunes/ Songs then go to File/Get info you will be asked "Are you sure you want to edit information for multiple items?" Go ahead and you can make them into an album, putting in the artist name, etc.

Forget the pad for a moment and just think about I tunes on your computer. Every now and then( 3 times over 6 years) when doing an I tunes upgrade, I tunes seems to lose track of some of my music files. They show up in the I tunes listing, but when you try to play, it cannot find the source. The cause is always that I have somehow moved some or all of the music to a library that is outside of the set of libraries I have dragged into I tunes.
On your computer, search for one of the songs. All the missing ones are probably together, and when you find one, you will find the rest. When you find it, note the directory and file path to where it lives, then add that path to your I tunes

Note, the original listing will still be in I tunes, so you will get double listings for theses songs, and no easy way to tell which is the valid ane and which is not, other than the ! Symbol when it cannot find the file. I know of no good way to get rid of the duplicate listing except manually going through and deleting them.
One you get them back into your I tunes library, they will sync and play fine.
Second side effect, if you are streaming to atv, and it comes accross one of those entries that leads nowhere, it simply stops streaming, and you have to restart the play.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

Strange 'Unknown Album' listings in ATV Podcasts library

Hello,
I'm new to the Apple TV and have just come across this strange problem of 'Unknown Album' listings in my ATV Podcasts library.
I converted four TV programmes to .m4v and moved them first into my iTunes Movies folder on my iMac. Only my Photos are 'synced'- the other library stuff is streamed to my ATV.
I later tagged the four converted TV Programmes in the iTunes Get Info/Video Kind box as TV Shows, and discovered that this created the 'TV Shows' folder in my iTunes Library and this folder now contained the four TV programmes. They also appeared under 'TV Shows' on my Apple TV and play fine. They no longer appear in the ATV's Movies listing.
However I also discovered that I now have four 'Unknown Albums' in my ATV Podcasts library, and these are the same four TV shows referred to above, which can also be played from the ATV Podcast library. These 'Unknown Albums' are not in my iTunes Podcast library. So I can't delete them, and I don't know how they got there in the first place.
Does anyone know what I've done wrong here, and how I can fix it?

I don't think it has anything to do with the way they were converted. I used Handbrake for some and VisualHub for others. I only mentioned the conversion to give as complete a background to the issue as possible.
Maybe it has something to do with how they were imported into iTunes, or what I did/didn't do while tagging them with 'Get Info'. I'm not a great fan of iTunes, but not too familiar with it either. But the content appears and plays fine in iTunes. Only ATV shows these ghostly 'Unknown Albums'.

Some Albums Going into "Compliations" Folder

For some reason about 100 albums Ive loaded onto my iMac have gone into a folder in my "Music" folder called "Compilations" instead of the music folder with the name of the band.
Example: 6 of my Led Zeppelin albums in are in the proper "Led Zeppelin" folder ... but for some reason Physical Graffiti always goes into the "Compilations" folder.
I actually spent 2 hours one day moving all the albums back into their proper folders, only to find them BACK in "Compilations"
Anyone else have this issue or know why its happening?

Check the info tab for anything that is going into compilations. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not going into an Artist folder, right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu). Look for a tick in the "part of compilation" box.
To remove "part of compilation" from a whole album click on the first track and while holding down the shift key go to the last one and click on it. This will highlight the selection. Right click on the selection and choose Get Info, you be asked if you wan to update multiple items, say yes. In the box the opens change "Compilation" to No. The album will move automatically from the Compilations folder into the relevant artist folder.
