ITunes 11: Rentals not visible in Sidebar

In iTunes 10.x, any time I rented a movie, that category would automagically become visible in the Sidebar. In iTunes 11, the Rentals category no longer shows itself. The movies are visible in the Movies folder in Finder, so it's possible to view them by opening them from Finder with iTunes, but it's a total PITA.
Is anybody else seeing the same issue?

Thanks, czeano. Alas, there were enough niggling things wrong with iTunes 11 that I decided to downgrade to 10.7. The Albums view doesn't "follow" the currently playing selection as Cover Flow did. And Podcast view insists on sorting from newest-to-oldest, which is a drag when you've got 100+ podcasts and you're working through them in chronological order. And while I don't generally have multiple iTunes windows open, the shift from an MDI to SDI architectural paradigm is disconcerting (although in line with the single-tasking motif pushed forth by "full screen mode" in Lion and Mountain Lion).
I'll give Apple kudos for reintroducing COLOUR for the sidebar icons -- once again following their own human user interface design guidelines! -- but the release is half-baked. I'll wait till 11.1 before trying it again.
And thank you. I'll keep your pointer in mind for my next foray! Give the man 10 points! :-)

  • ITUNES HD RENTAL NOT COMPATABLE WITH VISTA?

I downloaded an HD rental and when I hit play it said must have windows seven to play HD rental. It would have been nice if there was a warning before you download something that won't work on your computer. All the 10.1 itunes say,"works on PC and mac" Well that's not true. How do I get my money back or move the rental to my mac so I can view that thing?

Itunes 9.1 is definitely NOT compatible with Windows XP at this time. The culprit appears to be the Bonjour services package. I recently attempted to install via 3 methods: through Apple Update, via direct download over wireless and via direct download over wired connection. The result was the same in all three instances: when attempting to start itunes 9.1, it would immediately crash with a message "Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close...". Upon checking the application event viewer (control panel > performance & maintenance > administrative tools > event viewer) I was able to determine that the itunes crashes were due to Bonjour in all but one instance. Bottom line: steer clear of itunes 9.1 until Apple gets their comparability issues corrected.

  • I have problem uploading tiff. or other images through artwork box in multiple item info in itune-images is not visible in folder!

i noticed recently that once i uploading images with MULTIPLE ITEM  INFORMATION box in itunes and getting straight through the music folder i have no option to upload  tiff. and some jpeg. images connected with that album. the box don't allow me to upload them.i need help here, please.i know i can directly paste the artwork in small window in itunes left corner once i marked all the songs in multiple change.

The following line tells me that this is not a template file, but a document created from a template called index.dwt
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/index.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
This means that you saved a child document as a template file at some stage.
If you go to Modify->Templates->Detach from Template, you can remove the template structure from your document. All you then need to do is to re-save the document as a template.

  • Problem: Shared iTunes, Ratings are not visible on the using Mac

    Hi,
I have iTunes 7.4.1 on both Macs. One machine publishes the iTunes library.
The files have ratings as usual. The other machine uses this shared iTunes library
over WLAN. On this machine I don't see the ratings anymore. Since iTunes 7.4.
Has anybody seen this, too? Ratings are not displayed on the Mac that uses
    a shared iTunes Mediathek.
    Regards,
    Rainer Joswig

    Hi Rainer
Same problem for me... Previously versions works great for me.. ratings and all library items are available... now, under shared library i can only see playlists... Folders like Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcast are visualized now as playlist not correctly...

  • Itunes Movie Rental Not Playing

I just rented a movie from itunes, it said it was ready to play but i chose to watch later. When I hit play button, It goes into player mode but nothing happens, when i scroll through the film the still images apprear but its not playing.
    Can Anyone Help ?

I have the same problem. At first I got this message:
This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection).
I have a brand new macbook pro 15" with a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 and 8GB of ram. I have purchased numerous TV episodes in both HD & SD and have no issues. i rented this movie yesterday and could only play it via my Apple TV. I haven't installed the latest OS update but my itunes is up to date and like I mentioned I can play everything else.
I just tried again after changing the setting to switch displays to save power. Now every time I try to play the movie it asks me to authorize my computer, then tells me its already authozied, then gives me a black screen in play mode with no movement on the play indicator.

  • ITunes Podcast logo not visible

My logo doesn't appear in the the space where it should go and instead it is generic. I use Libsyn and uploaded a 1400x1400 pic. It just got added to ITunes today so is there a wait period or did I screw up?

All looks good for your artwork as Roger said and for the feed overall.
There are some other new shows in the last couple of days also missing artwork - seems to be a little bug on their side.
Per showing up in the search results - it takes about 7 days for your show to be fully indexed into the search results.
For now everything looks fine on your side - just a mater of waiting for iTunes to update.

  • I have just rented two movies and after download they are not visible anywhere in iTunes for me to watch.

I have just rented two movies and after download they are not visible anywhere for me to view. Usually in the iTunes menu there is an option call 'rentals' where rented movies sit until they expire, this is no longer visible. The movie files are listed in the finder under music/movies.... With the rest of my iTunes data, but they will not play in iTunes from there and I can't add them to my library for watching.
The only thing I am currently doing differently is that I have just subscribed to iTunes Match; would this affect my rentals?

    Hi Cmcb,
Under your Library list, you should see "Movies". Click on that, and you will see a screen with several tabs at the top - Rentals, Unwatched, Movies, Genres, Home Videos, etc.
As Hackintosh indicated above, click on the Rentals tab, and your movies will be displayed there. Doulbe click on one to start playing it.
If you do not have your sidebar showing, go up to View at the top, and click on Show Sidebar. Then you will see your Library lists on the sidebar, which will include Movies.
    Cheers,
    GB

  • Why are shared files not visible when iPhone4S connected to iTunes?

What makes this problem mysterious is that I have exactly the same settings on the same or eqivalent Apps on iPad2 and iTunes4S but when my iPhone is connected to my iTunes (running on my PC under Win7) it shows no files on Apps like Pages, iBooks, Keynote, and Print-n-share.  Each of these Apps has files and each shows files when  I connect my iPad2.   I cannot export or import filesto/from itunes and iphone because the list of files inside the Apps is not visible in itunes.
PS I CAN, btw, export and import files by using the amazing App and service "DropBox" which is the only route in and out of my iPhone (I am not ready to use iCloud).

This is not a reply but an addition.  While searching for answers as to why "Shared" files in original Apps in my iPhone4S did not appear on itunes I came across a similar discussion on another Forum in which Jim described in some detail how to get the two devices (my iPhone 4S and my iPad2) to recognize similar embedded files in similar Apps.  https://discussions.apple.com/message/16690584#16690584
I went through this promising procedure but it did not help.  Since the two devices are independent (I think -- they are on the same accoubt but ar different devices) I should be able to make them work the same way with regard to what is seem in iTune.

  • My iPod Touch 4g not visible in Windows or iTunes

My iPod Touch 4th generation is not visible in Windows or iTunes. It also doesn't seem to want to charge. I've tried the Troubleshooting Assistant but nothing happened. Any ideas? It was working fine last night, and this morning started acting wonky.

  • All songs in iTunes cloud not visible in iTunes

I'm having an issue and something has obviously been corrupted.  On one of my PCs, none of the songs which are in the cloud are visible in my iTunes any longer.  iTunes says that everything has been updated and is working properly but I have no access to those songs.  And it's not that they're greyed out, they're completely gone and not visible.  I've tried de/re-authorizing my computer, turn off/on itunes match, update itunes match, sign out of itunes altogether, uninstall/reinstalling itunes and lastly I moved the iTunes folder on my hard drive to somewhere else hoping that iTunes would rebuild its index.  No luck with any of these solutions.  When I turn off iTunes Match and then turn it back on, it does say I now have access to all 5000+ of my songs but when I go to the songs list, only the couple hundred songs which are on my hard drive are visible, nothing else.  I know the songs are in the cloud; all my devices and other computers can fully access and play everything.  I'm out of ideas, what else can I do to make iTunes Match update my library here because it thinks that everything's okay when it's not.  Also, I need to get this working in the next week or so because my iTunes Match is due to renew and if I can't get this computer to access anything then there's no point for me to pay for iTunes Match when it no longer works.  Thank you for your help.

i did get the message that it couldnt go to the ipod because it couldnt be found --- so i "located" the file in itunes, then they went on to the ipod. but i dont get that message any more, i also checked to see if there were songs unchecked and there arent
    this is weird to me
    any other suggestions?

  • 2nd gen iPod not visible on Desktop or in iTunes

I have a 40GB 2nd gen iPod that works fine and until recently always appeared on the Desktop and in iTunes whenever connected. Haven't had any problems with the iPod or iTunes. Now it is not visible at all but it does still recharge.
It's connected with FireWire 400 but it doesn't show up in System Profiler or Disk Utility.
I've reset it. I've forced Disk Mode. Nothing works.
Another thing... I have my whole music collection stored on an external LaCie drive and connected to the laptop with FireWire 800. iTunes works fine, though, whenever I connect the iPod to the laptop, iTunes stops playing (the spinning colorwheel appears) and as soon as I disconnect the iPod, I hear the external drive kick in and iTunes resumes playing.
    Please help! Thank you.

Thank you for your reply, socrates.
I always connect the iPod into my Powerbook via FireWire 400 and the external LaCie is connected to the laptop via FireWire 800. So, there is no daisy-chain setup.
Actually, I've just realized that my iPod is 3rd generation not 2nd. When I looked at the "Settings" on the iPod it says Version: 2.3 so I thought that meant 2nd generation but just discovered otherwise. Is there any way that I can change the title of the thread?
And any more advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  • "podcasts" is not visible in iTunes after software update

iTunes no longer shows "podcasts" as a category.  I have several active subscriptions--they seem to have disappeared.  All of the other usual categories (e.g., music, TV shows) are still there.  This occurred immediately after I downloaded today's iTunes upgrade.  I have tried downloading more podcasts.  That happens fine--but they are not visible from iTunes after the download.

I can re-check the "podcasts" box in the Windows version.  It's not grayed out.  But there doesn't seem to be any way to save my changes.  Didn't the "preferences" dialog box used to have a "save changes" button at the bottom?
