ITunes 11 scroll bar trouble

Hi folks,
this concerns iTunes 11.1.3 for Mac: when in the iTunes store to view my purchased items, I cannot use the left scroll bar (artist listing).  The said scroll bar is visible only when the pointer rests on an item - the moment I approach the scroll bar with the pointer in order to scroll up or down the list, it simply disappears. Does anyone know a fix for this bug?  Please, let me know.  Thanks!
Frank M.

You don't have to scroll with your arrow directly on the bar.  Scroll works when your arrow is positioned in this area:

  • Itunes scroll bar disappears

    Hello,
    I have the latest itunes installed on a Windows 7 PC. I have 2 monitors for the PC (Primary being the original 1366x768 on the laptop and Second being a 1080p external). My problem is that sometimes when I maximize the itunes window on my Primary screen, the scroll bar, or more specifically a small area on the far right of the window is cut off. This does not happen all the time but when it does, it is very annoying. I am wondering what the problem is and if there is any solution to this problem.
    Thank you

    The problem is iTunes 11 is riddled with bugs and plenty of others have reported the issue with the scroll bar, just to name one of the many annoyances of this poorly designed piece of software.
    I would suggest rolling back to V10 and seeing if Apple eat some humble pie, apologise for this mess and try and fix it up.  Otherwise I would suggest trying some alternative, such as Winamp as a back plan in case Apple fail to get iTunes 11.x out of the slop.
    It is probably worth your while seeing here a kludge type solution

    Good luck - but I can tell you that ditching 11 and going to 10 was a good move, for me at least.  Much happier.

  • ITunes scroll bar missing

    When in my collection of SONGS in iTunes, previously, I would see an alphabetical display down the right side of the screen so you could "jump quickly" to other songs in the list by touching a letter that alphabetical listing.  That alphabetical listing has disappeared form the screen.  How do I get the scroll bar back?   I have re-installed iTunes, I have done a full restore of my entire iPhone and the issue still remains.   I have a 5s and all software is fully updated to the latest versions.
    Thank you!

    Hi Lex,
    Yes I should have said the music app.  That is a good correction.
    The red alphabet list on the right hand side that you referenced is exactly what is missing now.
    I used to see it displayed, now it is simply non-existent and I want to get it back.
    Thanks

  • JScrollPane scroll bar trouble on rebuild

    I've been working on this for hours (about 4 hours now) without finding the right solution, so maybe someone can help. I searched through a few pages of the forum but didn't see this exact issue. And the tutorial online doesn't help much.
    I have a JPanel in a JScrollPane in a JFrame. The JFrame has it's height reduced if its over a particular size (in the test case, it gets reduced). When it first loads, it's fine. However, if I rebuild the whole JFrame (some event causes the JPanel content to change, and refresh() is called again), the window remains the same size but the vertical scroll bar extends off the bottom of the frame. If I manually resize the frame with the mouse (even by 1 pixel), the scroll bar updates and looks correct again. What is the correct way to do this? Calling revalidate() on the JScrollPane after doing the setSize() doesn't do anything. And why does it work the first time when the JFrame is first built through the Constructor?
    example code:
    public class MyFrame extends JFrame {
        public MyFrame() {
            super();
            refresh();
        private void refresh() {
            JPanel jp = new JPanel();
            jp.setLayout(new SpringLayout());
            // add some stuff to jp
            JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(
                JScrollPaneConstants.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_ALWAYS,
                JScrollPaneConstants.HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED
            scrollPane.getViewport().add(jp);
            setContentPane(scrollPane);
            pack();
            if (getHeight() > MAX_HEIGHT) {
                setSize(getWidth(),MAX_HEIGHT);
    }

    When you have changed the content, call getRootPane().validate(); instead of pack(), as in this slightly modified version of your sample program:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class MyFrame extends JFrame implements ActionListener {
        private static final int MAX_HEIGHT = 100;
        public MyFrame() {
            super();
            refresh(true);
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            MyFrame myFrame = new MyFrame();
            myFrame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
            myFrame.setVisible(true);
        private void refresh(boolean pack) {
            JPanel jp = new JPanel();
            jp.setLayout(new BoxLayout(jp,BoxLayout.Y_AXIS));
            JButton refreshButton = new JButton("Refresh");
            refreshButton.setActionCommand("refresh");
            refreshButton.addActionListener(this);
            jp.add(refreshButton);
            jp.add(new JLabel("Hello"));
            jp.add(new JLabel("There"));
            jp.add(new JLabel("Why"));
            jp.add(new JLabel("Doesn't"));
            jp.add(new JLabel("Refresh"));
            jp.add(new JLabel("Work"));
            JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(
                ScrollPaneConstants.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_ALWAYS,
                ScrollPaneConstants.HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED
            scrollPane.getViewport().add(jp);
            setContentPane(scrollPane);
            if (pack) {
                pack();
            else {
                getRootPane().validate();
            if (getHeight() > MAX_HEIGHT) {
                setSize(getWidth(),MAX_HEIGHT);
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) {
            refresh(false);
    }

  • Scroll bar trouble in filmstrip mode

    In horizontal filmstrip mode (Bridge 2.1.0.100), the right end of the horizontal scroll bar is not visible. If I make the Bridge window smaller than full screen, I can drag the slider out of sight beyond the right side of the Bridge window, but not far enough to see all the files. The right side of the Bridge window appears to be otherwise normal.
    What's happening?

    Thanks again Curt,
    I seem to have fixed it. I opened the pop-out menu associated with the filmstrip button(#1)in the lower-right-hand corner of the window and re-selected Horizontal Filmstrip. That fixed the scroll bar (displayed the right edge of it). I couldn't increase the screen resolution because I was already at the native resolution for the (flat-panel) monitor. When I had the Bridge window open to less than screen size, it was very strange to drag the scroll bar outside the Bridge window where it disappeared. I could move it even though I couldn't see it.

  • No scroll bars in new iTunes update

    Very frustrating, as unable to see all my applications on one page. NO SCROLL BARS, and the keyboard shortcuts dont work either. No way to change to font or screen size. Not very helpful.

    Have you tried to reposition your iTunes window. It might be that when the iTunes window is maximised the vertical scrollbar moves off the right side of the screen. 'Restore Down' and manually position iTunes on the screen to see the vertical scrollbar.

  • Scroll Bars in iTunes broken

    Hi guys
    ok, strange one this. The Scroll bars on the side of the window in itunes, for the playlists, the fields for selecting artists, genre and album have all disappeared. They've just been replaced with White. It still plays music and allows scrolling with the mouse ball, but can't scroll using the point and click method.
    Have restored iTunes from time machine, re-downloaded iTunes, and even copied my iTunes library back from my MacBook to my MacPro, as its working fine on my Macbook
    very strange.
    Can anyone help? I'm now stump!
    R

    Hidden scroll bars that only appear when you mouse over them are the default in Lion. However, you can easily change back to normal scroll bars if you prefer. Go to System Preferences > General and uncheck and check the button to always show scroll bars.

  • ITunes 7.3 update fixes fuzzy coverflow scroll bar!

    Good news, it seems the latest update has fixed the unsightly fuzzy/blurry/pixellated scroll bar! Before you had to resize the iTunes window to get it to return to its sleek smooth appearance but since installing the update this morning my Coverflow is beautiful again!
    Some people had mentioned this might be something to do with the graphics driver/card in the MacBook as this problem was not occurring on MacBook Pro's or iMac's etc...
    Hopefully everyone else is seeing the same?

    While I'm waiting a bit before I get an iPhone, I did want to get 7.3 installed. And when I did, my Cover Art also began to disappear, and those disappearing were definitely non-iTunes purchased tracks. Moreover, I could not re-paste Album Covers back into those same tracks. So 7.3 does have a bug regarding Cover Art.
    As an aside and since Cover Flow, for me, will be an important aesthetic to enjoying iTunes on an iPhone, I will not get an iPhone until 7.3 is sorted out. ...I don't want to hassle with my iTunes Cover Art and an iPhone through some software updates. So, I prefer to wait until this software bug is eliminated. (I hope Apple is aware of this bug, by now.)
    I was able to revert back to iTunes 7.2 (from a backup) and all my Cover Art was reintroduced back into my viewing of the non-iTunes purchased tracks. So, 7.3 does not delete those Album covers, but for some reason will not show or allow paste. Once reversion back to 7.2 was completed, my iTunes Cover Flow was just as it had been prior to installing 7.3.
    I'm now looking for 7.3.x.

  • Scroll bar no longer works in iTunes for Mac in Downloads window

    I have a strange issue.
    When I look at my list of downloads in iTunes (I have 100+ active - lots of podcasts for family) the vertical scroll bar appears but it does not work.  I cannot use the arrows at bottom nor can I click in scroll bar or drag window.  I am only able to use my magic mouse to move up and down in the window.
    This does _not_ happen in other windows.  Have looked through dozens of posts but can't find a fix.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Last week I was trying to dj with iTunes at a party and this was the reason I dumped iTunes for Spotify. No scrollbar when browsing through your collection, what were they thinking.. Solution anyone?

  • How do you scroll up albums in iTunes 11?  There isn't a scroll bar on the right side.  I know it appears when you minimize the screen, but it is hidden on my machine.  Running Dell XPS 15z i7 w/ Win 7.

    In iTunes 11, there is no scroll bar in full page Albums view.  It does appear when you minimize the screen, but on my computer, the scroll is hidden and the resizing of the screen does not work.   Is there a fix?  Also, how do you sort tracks/songs in Album view?  When I import lengthy audiobooks, the inability to sort through hundreds of tracks is really ticking me off.  Again, is there a fix?
    Apple...  Before you tell me all the great features in iTunes 11, let me just say they are duly noted.  But, I would rather have the option to do things on my own, rather than being forced to conform to your techies need to be creative.  I don't use Genius or Playlists, so the ability to sort in them is useless to me.

    It's been many, many years since I don't do dual boot anymore. Don't find the reason to do it, either. Different kinds of virtualization should be enough. Anyway...

    the bottom scroll bar on my itunes page, the one that lets you move side to side, is not there on the screen. i tried reinstalling itunes and it is still not there. how can i fix this? thanks.

    It's not your display resolution, it's something they changed a few days ago. Send feedback to apple:

  • Fuzzy iTunes cover art scroll bar

    Just recently got my Black Macbook Core 2 Duo with 2 Gig Ram and a 160 Gig HD. After I installed my music library into iTunes, the left-right scroll bar in cover art display has become quite fuzzy. A quit and restart solves it temporarily, but it also returns after some play time. Never happens with our Core Duo MacBook Pro. I see some others posted a similar question under iTunes without response. Is this fuzziness the product of the integrated video card in the MacBook? I sure hope not - I would have hoped better for its capabilities than that!

    I also have noticed the fuzzy Coverflow bar on my 1.83 cd macbook. It occurs intermittently in both my library and the itunes store. Also, the column headers (Artist, Genre, Song) sometimes refresh incorrectly so I am left with big black unreadable blobs. This is corrected if I switch back and forth from Coverflow. None of my other macs have either of these issues. Itunes is the only program I've used that displays these graphical anomolies. My initial guess is that it had to do with the gma950, although why it would only happen with itunes, I do not know.
