Itunes 11 Starts Automatically on Headphone Jack

Hello. I have been reading the forums and it appears that there has never been a conclusive resolution to the problem I am facing for all versions of Itunes available since purchase of my Late 2011 Macbook Pro 13" Laptop.
Description of Problem
Itunes autostarts on any twisting of the input jack of any and all sets of headphones (microphone combo, or audio out only) plugged into the computer. Additionally, any unplugging, replugging, slight brushing up against, or any activity that would produce any feedback in the jack at all, produces this undesired effect.
Attempted Solutions
I have tried various methods of removing this unwanted behavior from itunes to no avail. Please note Itunes is the only software that produces this unwanted effect.
1. Unclick any syncing features, download features, accessibility features etc., in itunes that would produce this undesired effect.
2. Double and triple check all ancillary programs running that would have an adverse effect on the functionality of itunes. None present.
3. Delete all .plist files and reboot. No change.
4. Delete ituneshelper. No change.
Conclusion
I have contemplated deleting itunes all together as this error is so annoying, being that I use my computer for music creation. The only reason I have not removed itunes all together is stability of system issues, and iphone updates.  At this point it is very frustrating to me that this bug has not been addressed by any actual apple developer directly.  The combined support of these communities is very much appreciated, however, as there has been no confirmed solution posted a direct response from an apple support agent would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Andy

Well, I guess this can be considered a solution. I downloaded Appcleaner app at: http://www.freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/ and then proceeded to delete ITUNES which is a terrible app anyway when compared with Spotify. No more autostart Itunes on iphone jack. Problem solved.

  • ITunes keeps starting automatically

iTunes keeps starting automatically on my Macbook Air. When I quit iTunes it just restarts again within about 2 minutes. I have checked my Dashboard widgets and there is nothing there related to iTunes. It's unclear what has triggered this and it's VERY annoying.
How can I stop it doing this?

Was having the same problem but seemed to have solved it. Did the following:
    1. Went into CDs and DVDs prefs and set when you insert a music CD and picture CD to ignore
    2. Went into iTunes -> prefs -> Devices and unchecked "Look for remote speakers connected with Airtunes" and "Look for iPhone and iPod touch Remotes"
    3. Installed Lingon (http://lingon.sourceforge.net/) and checked all my startup processes and Daemons. Found some old things like MySQL trying to launch (even though web sharing is off) and an old Maxtor one touch driver and disabled the processes or removed them.
    4. Checked the console log to be sure nothing else was running or creating an error that I didn't need anymore.
I apologize that I can't say what solved it, but aside from the prefs in the apps, it may have been an old piece of software (like my old Maxtor drive) that was still trying to run that may have been triggering itunes.
    Good luck to all.

  • ITunes always starts automatically, how to stop it?

iTunes for some reason has started to automatically run every time I restart or turn on the iMac.
I can't find any menus to allow me to change this in iTunes preferences. Is there another area I need to look in?

I too was having a similar problem recently. My 1 1/2 old kid likes to play with the mouse and keyboard when no one is looking and I bet she did this accidently.LOL.
Thanks for the info. I didn't know what was going on but I now know.

  • ITunes doesn't start automatically when ipod is connected.

Even though I have clicked on the place that says itunes will start automatically when iPod is connected to pc, it doesn't. I have to click on iTunes everytime, and then it takes a while to run.
Anyone have any ideas what might be the problem?

    hi joyful!
just checking. reboot the PC, and prior to launching itunes or plugging in the ipod, bring up your Task Manager to the "processes" tab.
is there an iTunesHelper.exe running in your processes?

  • ITunes 10., dont starts automaticly & video-podcasts only sound works ???

Upgrading to iTunes 10.1 on my MBP (MacOS 10.6.5) i got two problems:
first, itunes dont starts automaticly anymmore, when connecting iPhone 3GS(iOS 4.2.1). Starting Itunes manually, iPhone-sync starts and works well??? The "dont sync automaticly"-button in iTunes setup is not set!
sec.: iTunes 10.1 dont play videopodcasts anymore. Only sound is o.k. The podast itself is o.k.and vissibale with other tools and after syncing, iPhone shows them, too.
    Any Tips?
    greetings to all

Mine did something very similar - when I tried to search, I got a message saying that it couldn't contact the iTunes Store. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and afterwards it worked, but the fix might have had nothing to do with that uninstall/reinstall. I wasn't able to contact the iTunes Store through my iPod either, and that didn't work for a while even after the reinstall. Then eventually it ran correctly as well.
I'm inclined to believe that there was something wrong at iTunes, not on my end. Have you tried again recently? Hopefully it'll be working again, like mine is.

  • POSSIBLE SIMPLE SOLUTION TO HEADPHONE JACK PROBL

It may have been suggested before but, purchase the wired remote cos its
very useful particularly when you are walking about or in the car,and you can
leave it permanantly plugged in the jack thereby considerably reducing wear
and tear on the socket. Then you can plug any other various phones/speakers/
    aux/etc. to the remote
GOOD IDEA EH ? all donations to British Heart Foundation thanks lol :smileyvery-happy:

I think this is the 2nd time I read a post very similar to yours. Sorry to put you down but I really don't believe this will help at all. If you think about it, you pretty much have the wires in your pocket, in your backpack, or purse. Anyway, you have to keep that wire secure and free from movement or else there will be stress on the headphone jack.
If you don't believe me, try it out. I bought a headphone extension cord from radio shack that is about 5-6 inches long. I need it for my headphones to work, anyway, I noticed that whenever I'm walking with the extension cord plugged in and not with my earphones, the wire keeps falling down and starts going under the micro. Then everytime I walk, the wire starts moving in my pocket which starts putting some stress on my headphone jack.
My advice is to not leave anything in the headphone jack when not in use.
The important thing is to wonder is why are we doing this in the first place. Why are we so worried about our headphone jack from breaking? Is this really our fault? Is it creative's? Since when did we start thinking about headphone jack failing? Straight jack? Right angle jack?
I'm getting sick of this, Creative should really do something about this. Investigate!

  • ITunes no longer keeps speakers running on headphone jack

iTunes no longer keeps my external speakers running when connected by audio cable to the headphones jack. After 1:45 min:sec, my Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 speakers power down when connected to my computer playing iTunes.
The speakers do not power down for audio generated from other sources on my computer. When I play a video or audio file through Safari or another browser, the speakers work fine. When I listen to an audio file by selecting it in the Finder using Apple-Y ("quick-view"), the speakers run continuously until the end of the track without powering down. When I use the speakers configured the same way with other software (such as Skype), they work fine.
The speakers do not power down for audio generated from other DEVICES. When I plug the speaker cable into the headphone jack of either my iPhone 3Gs or my partner's mp3 player and play audio, the speakers work continuously.
I've looked at trouble-shooting for iTunes and found nothing on the Apple site or the web or in the iTunes preferences to keeping wire external speakers live during iTunes playback. I've tried having the speakers connected to a power source or running on batteries but the problem is the same. I've reset the speaker device with no change. I've reinstalled iTunes, no change. The Apple Store genius bar cleared all caches and restarted, no change. They reinstalled the computer system, but found no change.

    Hi Dexterdawg
Can you direct me to the thread as I can not sort out the same problem on my iMac
    Thanks

    Michael,
Thanks. I haven't mixed down the audio or checked the number of tracks in Prefs. Good points.
As far as a mixdown goes, I'll definitely give it a try, though I wonder whether or not the tracks will be recognized during mix down recording - given that you can't hear either of those segments in playback. Just have to try.
Re the preferred number of allowed tracks - I'll go check as soon as I send this off, but I'm not sure that applies in this case, since the two Channels containing the segments that are pinked out are not in additional tracks. I should have mentioned that other audio clips and segments on the same Channels in the SAME tracks ARE heard in playback. As are two additional track in the 2nd Sequence. It's only when the two sequences are joined that the pink tinted segments can't be heard. Within the sequence the same audio cuts playback as they should. Thanks again &
    Best regards,

  • My iTunes v.10.6.3.25 is intermittently refusing to open. Sometimes re-booting my laptop works, sometimes not. I just put the computer to sleep, and when I woke it up, iTunes started automatically. Any thoughts?

My iTunes v.10.6.3.25 is intermittently refusing to open. Sometimes re-booting my laptop works, sometimes not. I just put the computer to sleep, and when I woke it up, iTunes started automatically (I had been trying to open it just before by clicking on a song file in my Documents window, and that's the song that started playing when the pc woke up). I went to my iTunes Help and clicked Updates/download iTunes 10.7 twice, but got nothing. Now, Im wondering if I should downloacd the entire 10.7, or whether that would overwrite all my files, erasing my songs. Anybody know? Thanks.

    Hey thanks for replying.
    Here's what I did:
First I tried the Winsock reset in the Command prompt. Nothing changed.
Next, I tried the instructions on http://http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123. The only other program that came up on the 'Winsock Providers' tab on the program was 2 Windows Live applications, which I can do without. So I deleted all Windows Live Applications.
I did the Winsock reset in the Command Prompt again and rebooted my comp.
Unfortunately, nothing has changed. iTunes keeps freezing at various stages of the sync, then shows the candy cane-striped bar with either the words 'Finishing sync' or 'Cancelling sync', before showing the Apple logo.
Sometimes, iTunes gets to the syncing stage - "Copying # of ####" - where it will trudge through the first, second and third tracks before flashing "Copying 4 of ####" for a split second and I catch "Cancelling sync" briefly before the Apple logo appears.
Again, I've repeated the steps I mentioned in my previous post. Does ANYONE know when the new version of iTunes is set to be released?! This one is driving me INSANE, to say the least!!

  • ITunes no longer starting automatically with iPhone

I have an iPhone 4S. Running iTunes 11.0.4.4 on Windows 7.
iTunes used to start automatically when I plugged in my phone as it was set to do.
have not changed the settings, and that box is still checked but now iTunes no longer starts automatically.
When I manually start iTunes, it detects my phone as normal.
When I first plug in the phone, the PC detects it and gives me the Windows dialog box asking what I want to do with the device.
I've unchecked the box, saved that, and rechecked with no changes.

  • HT1660 My itunes library has automatically started to list my songs alphabetically.  I do not want this.  How do I change it so that when albums come up, the songs are listed in the order of the imported album, NOT alphabetically.

For the missing Artists on your iPod, make sure their tracks in iTunes are not marked as "Part of a compilation" in iTunes. You can do this by highlighting the track, right->clicking on them and choosing "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to this option in the lower right hand corner. Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod.

  • ITunes does not start automatically when iPod is connected

iTunes used to start automatically when I connected iTunes. It no longer does. Can I fix that?
    Dave

Connect your iPod and open iTunes. Towards the bottom of the iPod screen, there are four check boxes. The top one says "Open iTunes when iPod is connected." Check that box and click apply. If it is checked, uncheck it and click apply, eject and reconnect your iPod, then recheck it and click apply.

Itunes does not start automatically when I plug in my iPhone.  When I start it manually, it never recognizes the phone although it does ask if I want to download pictures etc.  Many albums have no art work that use to.  iTunes completely unresponsive to the mouse.

    Hi billm1013,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPhone. If your iPhone isn't being recognized in iTunes, and/or iTunes isn't responding to your mouse when the iPhone is connected, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:
