ITunes 11 Syncing Issues (iPhone 4 / iOS 6)

iPhone 4 - iOS 6.0.1 (10A523)
MacBook Pro OS 10.7.5
iTunes 11
Whether I am attempting to sync my phone via USB cable or WiFi, the process simply does not work anymore after the unfortunate upgrade from iTunes 10.7 to 11.  I never had any issues before this upgrade.
While on WiFi, I was receiving an error message partially through the syncing process that indicated iTunes had lost connection with the iPhone.  (The WiFi indicators on my phone and my laptop never flinched, and I have no issues with WiFi and other programs or apps.)  After moving to the cable and turning off WiFi on my phone, the sync appears to work; however, the end result when I click on items inside of iTunes is no different.  Things that are on my phone are simply not showing up in iTunes ... as if a sync never happened.  None of the updated even appears -- not even when I click on the options under my device in iTunes.  Yes - when I click on the phone itself, the missing items are there.
I'm going to downrade to 10.7 to save additional stress; however, it would be nice if Apple could have worked out these kinks.  (I didn't even intend to upgrade since this version is so new ... but I got click-happy.)
Does anyone know of any fixes (besides the downgrade) that will allow me to sync my phone? I have NOT upgraded my iPad's iTunes and I do not intend to.

I had exactly the same problem, it also only appeared after upgarding to iTunes 11.
After reading older threads about syncing problems, I followed a suggestion that fixed this issue for me, by re-setting the network settings on my iPhone:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
And then after the re-set, I re-entered my wireless network, and can now sync via iTunes 11 over WiFi

If you are stuck at the blue screen then you can try booting into safe mode (hold shift during boot) and then run disk repair. If that still doesn't fix it then you might have to reinstall OS X. What version of OS X are you running?

This year, the government has canceled the daylight saving time , that's why happening this problem to me so I changed the time zone in iPhone from Cairo,Egypt (GMT+2 with daylight saving) to Harare,Zimbabwe (GMT+2 without daylight saving , no change in time from summer & winter) & now working good, no change in time after sync. , But it's very stupid thing from apple that they didn't add an option in time setting to enable or disable the daylight saving time like any other mobile.

    Hello irish3kr,
You may need to download and install the Podcasts app.

If you are indeed using 10.5.8 as indicated in your signature you will first need to upgrade to Snow Leopard; this is available in the Online Apple Store. You will then be able to uprade to Lion - again available in the Online Store where you will get a code to enable download from the App Store in Applications. This will enable you to use iCloud and run the latest iTunes.

Settings>Store...tap the ID shown...sign out...sign back in with the ID you want to use.
Note: Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID used to originally obtain them. They cannot be updated using any other Apple ID other than the one they were originally obtained with.

How can I solve these stupid restrictions?

    Where are iTunes files located?
No, I do not mean just the music.  Copying just the media/music files or the media folder creates problems.

  • Itunes not syncing with iphone & apple tv not seeing itunes

Recently installed itunes 10.4, now itunes wont sync with iphone and apple TV 2 cannot see itunes on a wired network.  The error message says Apple Mobile Device has not started - confirmed that apple mobile device did start.  With upgraded itunes apple tv cannot see the itunes library on a wired or wireless network.
Reinstalled itunes several times now, and nothing changes.  Using pc, windows vista, outlook 2007.
Any suggestions on how to fix these problems?

Sure it's selcted, it's just not being stored in my iPhone's iTunes library as its stored on my macbook's iTunes library. I've dragged it to where I want it and it still won't store. I havne't needed to connect them with a cable since late last year I think with the new iTunes and updates, and you shouldn't have to. But this is frustrating, I finally found a way to get Tool on iTunes and I can't get it stored on my iPhone.

  • Why does it take so long for itunes to sync my iphone? Its been on step 2 for hours

Why does it take so long for itunes to sync my iphone? Its been on step 2 for hours
I just got the iphone 4s...I have had two other iphones in the past and they did not take this long to sync. This is my first time connecting it to my computer.

8 hours later and it is reading "finishing sync" which I believe is past Step 5 and I have no idea when the "finish" will occur and am afraid to disconnect/interrupt the sync. The current version of itunes (11) is installed and syncing Microsoft Outlook (about 400 contacts, calendar, etc) for the first time.  What should I do next besides wait?

  • IOS 7.1, iTunes 11.1 Syncing Issues (iPhone 4S, Macbook 2009)

    Hi,
Ever since I updated my iPhone to iOS 7, I have not been able to sync it with my Macbook. It never appears under the "Devices" tab in iTunes. My dad synced his iPhone 3GS to my computer for as long as he had that phone, without a hitch, but when he upgraded to an iPhone 5S, it would not sync properly either. This leads me to believe it is a bug within iTunes on the computer. Also, when I connect my iPhone, it incessantly pops up the message, "Do you trust this computer?", to which I always choose "Trust". I have used my iPhone as a personal hotspot via USB cable before, but it never had any issues with syncing until updating to iOS 7 and iTunes 11.1.
Any thoughts on possible solutions? Let me know if you need any more information.

Okay, I think I have the problem fixed now.  I did some further searching and came upon the following article:
    http://forums.ilounge.com/itunes-related-mac-pc-applications/269550-stopping-not -enough-free-space-sync-messages.html
It in turn has a link to the following Apple support page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
Basically it appears that the iTunes Library.itl database got corrupted.  By following the steps on the support page I was able to get it to rebuild the database and successfully sync my music and podcasts with my iPhone.  Hopefully this will help anyone else who has a similar problem.
    Later,
    Scott

  • ITunes 11.3.1(2) (on Mavericks 10.9.4) crashing on sync with iPhone 5S (iOS 7.1.2)

    Hi Apple Community
I recently excitedly upgraded my early 2011 MacBook Pro from OS X Lion to OS X Mavericks but have been experiencing troubles with iTunes since.
When I connect my iPhone 5S (iOS 7.1.2) it opens up in iTunes as normal, but when I hit 'Sync' in the music or podcasts tab, iTunes instantly crashes. Somehow, between the crashing, although iTunes has refused to do a positive or 'additive' sync (if we think of it as adding new content), it has managed to 'negatively' sync in that it has removed all the audio content that was on my iPhone.
So now I am completely music-less and podcast-less, and my commute *****!
I don't have the technical knowledge to make sense of the crash reports, but what I do know is this:
    - The Crash Thread number is variable i.e. is different each time
    - The Exception Type is always EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION (SIGILL)
    - The Exception Codes are always: 0x0000000000000001, 0x0000000000000000
    - The Crash Threads itself is actually identical each time, as is the accompanying error code (although I don't actually know what they mean...):
    Example A)

    Steps taken so far:
    - I started by restarting iTunes and restarting my MacBook
    - When this didn't work, I backed up my iPhone, wiped it, and restored it
    - This didn't work either, so I kept searching and I read elsewhere in the Apple Forum to go into the Library and delete the iTunes preference files: I trashed com.apple.iTunes.secure.plist and com.apple.airport.opproam.plist (because I thought this might be connected to com.apple.AirTrafficHost, which appears in the crash threads)
    BUT ALAS! To no avail.
    Can anyone help?
I would have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes too, but can't figure out how to do this as it's integral to Mavericks and I'm not advanced enough to know how to bypass the protection on it.
Am I going to have to resort to wiping my Mac and reinstalling Mavericks? I'm not vehemently opposed to doing this, but just perplexed and frustrated at having so much difficulty with the newest Mac OS, the newest version of iTunes and the newest iOS.... (or at least, the newest available to the general UK public). Besides, I just did this whole process to go from Lion to Mavericks and it's a total faff.
Out of interest, does anyone know what the above code is? If a code at all? Or is it a programming language? How can I learn to interpret and manipulate it for myself?
MASSIVE THANKS to anyone who has actually read all the way through this post!
And even bigger thanks to anyone who is willing to offer their input

  • ITunes Wifi Sync issue

    Hi,
I canceled a wifi sync session (pressing the x in the area in which iTunes shows what it is currently syncing to/from my iPhone) and ever since doing so my iPhone is no longer recognised in iTunes.
It doesn't show up on the device list.
    Things i tried:
    1.     Quit iTunes (Finder > iTunes > Quit iTunes)
    2.     Restart computer
--> also restarted the iPhone before trying again
    3.     plugging in the USB cable.
    4.     Go to Preferences --> Devices --> option "prevent iPod, iPhone, iPad to sync automatically" isn't checked.
--> Makes sense, since my iPad is connected and syncing properly. Double checked it anyway.
    5.     Searched on Google: not finding anything useful. searched on words like: osx + itunes + wifi sync + not showing
    System spec's:
iMac 27" 3,4 GHZ i7, 16GB ddr3, SSD. OSX Lion 10.7.2 installed. iTunes 10.5.2 (11) installed. Latest updates installed, completely updated.
How do i fix this issue ?

  • Some music not syncing to iPhone 6/iOS 8.0.2

Hopefully someone can assist as i've exhausted all efforts to try and figure this out.
Ever since i switched over to my new 6, i can't get all of music to sync onto the device. The song and artwork appears on the device, but when i try to play, it just skips to the next available song, and then a STOP icon with a circle around it appears. I have tried numerous things, including following some suggestions from other ASC users.  The music is in my itunes library, i can play from itunes.  Just not from iphone.
I have reset my network settings.  Signed Out/Into iCloud.  I have done numerous syncs, i have tried wiping the music library, and re-adding all songs.  I have even restored my phone without music, and then manually added all the music back in.  Still nothing.  I have attached an image to illustrate the problem.
I have gone through all my settings, ensured that i'm backing up to the computer, not to the iCloud as i thought that perhaps it was a lack of memory in my iCloud backup causing this.  Again, still nothing.
I'm not sure where to go from here.  Did someone else experience such a problem with 8.0 and has a suggestion?  Please assist.  I got a 128gb iphone for my vast music library, and can't really use it.
    Thanks.

I have not seen a progress bar that busy since the day I brought my iPhone 6 back home. Whatever I tried, iTunes simply would not sync everything in my library. In the end, the problem turned out to be as simple—but as deadly—as this:
In the current version of iTunes/iOS, there’s a bug that only appears when you have duplicates of purchased songs. When encountered, a duplicate of a purchased song will (almost always) cause iTunes to silently stop syncing.
This is a known-to-Apple issue, and it will be fixed in a forthcoming update. I’m fairly certain it’s an iTunes bug, but as Apple didn’t clearly state which it was, I’m calling it iTunes/iOS. Either way, until it’s fixed, it’s a really bad bug.
Here’s what happens: If you have duplicates of purchased songs, iTunes simply silently stops syncing when it hits one of those duplicates. From your perspective, it will look like everything is working—iTunes never throws an error, and it proceeds through all six (or seven or whatever) steps of the sync process, as seen in the status window of iTunes.
But behind the scenes, nothing is happening—at least, nothing relative to syncing your files. As seen by my troubles, this can be incredibly frustrating and hard to fix.
Continue reading to see how I was able to finally (with Apple’s help) get my devices syncing again—the tricky part is finding all the duplicates, because they’re not all obvious. Also note that if you are not having sync issues, I wouldn’t worry about duplicates—no need to endanger what’s already working well!
    The “tell”
If you’re affected by this bug, you’ll find that your iOS device will get some, but not all, of your content. When you look at the device in iTunes, you’ll see something like this:
Those items with the gray dotted circle didn’t actually sync—iTunes told the iOS device the files were coming (so they show up in the list), but the file itself didn’t transfer. What seems to happen is that iTunes will sync up until it hits a duplicate of a purchased song, then it just stops (without telling you it stopped).
    The fix
To fix the problem, you have to get rid of the duplicates—note that it’s only duplicates of purchased songs that cause the problem. In theory, this should be as simple as selecting your Music library, then using View > Show Duplicates. I did that first, and went through the list of matches to find actual duplicates of purchased songs.
I found a few, and removed them, but sync still wouldn’t work. Eventually, iTunes wasn’t reporting any duplicates, so I was somewhat stuck. I’d then send my sync log files back to Apple (they had me install a logging profile), and they’d be able to identify the next song that caused the problem. I’d remove that one, and then we’d then repeat this process, one painfully slow song file at a time. Ugh.
Why didn’t iTunes see these duplicates? Because they’re just different enough to not meet iTunes’ criteria, it seems. For example, here’s a duplicate that Apple identified which passed iTunes’ filters:
As you can see, the artist and time are identical, but the title and album are not. Listening to each track, though, they sounded identical to my ear. When you look at the Get Info window for these songs, you can see some other differences (click to zoom, wide window required!):
Notice that the file sizes are slightly different, and that one item has a purchase date while the other does not. These differences are enough that iTunes doesn’t think these files are duplicates, but are close enough to trigger the nasty bug.
    The tool
So how do you find these devious semi-duplicates, if iTunes won’t identify them? I turned to Dupin ($15), Doug Adams’ excellent duplicate finder. I tried various combinations of Criteria settings to make sure I was getting all the dupes; this one was particularly effective:
By searching on identical album, artist and track numbers, I could find all those duplicates that had different song titles (the first three songs above, for instance, all have illegitimate dupes). Not everything found would be a true “bad” duplicate, as some CDs are just weird. You can even see that in the screenshot—Counting Crows’ Holiday in Spain and Paved Paradise are both track number 13 on Hard Candy.
Instead of using Dupin to remove the dupes (which it can do), I just switched back to iTunes and decided which one to keep and which one to delete.
After I completed this process—I found about 20 such files, all much older purchases—I was able to sync my iPhone and get 100% of my content transferred—hooray!
    A very important heads up
When you first connect your iOS device after clearing your duplicates, you may see this dialog:
If you see this dialog, it’s really important that you click the Don’t Transfer button! If you do transfer the purchases back, you’ll be recreating your duplicates. And that would not be a good thing to do. (Ideally, you’ll have transferred any other legit purchases prior to clearing out duplicates, otherwise you’ll need to redownload them.)
    So how’d it happen?
Just where did the duplicates come from? That’s a great question, and one I can’t completely answer. Every duplicate I found was a very old iTunes purchase—most from 2003, none newer than 2009. I don’t use iTunes Match, so it couldn’t have been some automatic thing that just happened. And all the duplicates have notable changes—some have a higher bit rate, some are DRM free vs. protected, some are longer in duration, etc.
It appears to me that, somehow at some point in time, I must have told iTunes to upgrade my collection (perhaps related to the removal of DRM, many years ago?). Those new versions should have replaced the old versions, but for whatever reason, they did not.
Years pass, and there’s no problem, because this bug is apparently a recent arrival. But once the “bugged” version of iTunes was on my Mac, the duplicate songs became sync killers.
    Wrapping it all up
This was a long painful process—it’s only been four days since I picked up my iPhone, but solving the sync issue is about all I’ve been doing since then. I thank Apple for the prompt response to my issue, and for working with me to get everything working again. Everyone was incredibly professional and seemed genuinely interested in solving the problem—even on a Sunday morning.
Apple’s “normal” tech support folks were also very good, even if they didn’t seem to have the knowledge to solve the problem. They spent quite a bit of time with me, making sure they understood the problem. They checked in with me yesterday, to let me know they were still working on it.
Regardless of who solved it, I’m just very happy it’s solved…and hopefully this article will help someone else out of the same situation.

  • ITunes not syncing to iPhone 4S or iPad 2

I've noticed that the music libraries on my three devices differed significantly however I have never been able to sort out the issue.
I have a Macbook Pro(OSX 10.8.2), iTunes 11.0, an iPad 2 (6.0.1) and an iPhone 4S (6.0.1).  Each device is signed in to the same icloud account, I've read the instructions on setting up icloud so that hopefully it syncs correctly however my music libraries are vastly different.  I have home sharing turned on, and while connected to wifi I can change the library on either of the two mobile devices under "shared" to my Library and utilize the additional tunes, however when away from wifi or my MBP is closed I can not access the music.
My question is this- in the information I read on Apple's website discussing iTunes and iCloud, it is supposed to push all new downloads to the devices logged in that do not currently have that media.  So if I purchase a song on my iPhone 4S, theoretically it should push to my MBP and iPad 2 from the way I read it.  Or am I going to have to re-sync my iPhone and iPad everytime I add a new song or album so they all have the same music library?
This seems very redundant and a poor use for the cloud.  If that's the case, there isn't much use for iCloud in my personal opinion.
Is anyone else having this issue?

For what it is worth, when I first turned my iCloud syncing of documents on after updating to mountain lion, I encountered the same problems as yourself. Shortly after, I noticed that when I visited iCloud.com, that the iWork feature was apparently unavailable because of ongoing works. When it became available again, everything seemed to work just fine and has done so ever since. Of note, there was no other notification of these ongoing works anywhere else other than iCloud.com.
