ITunes 11 wifi sync problem

Hi all,
I just update to iTunes 11, but since than I'm only able to sync my iPad and iPhone with a cable, the wifi sync option is not working. Both of my iDevices won't find my MacBook
Info:
iPad Wifi 3rd Gen
iPhone 5
MacBook Pro 15" (mid 2011)
Hope that anyone has a solution or Apple comes up with a solution

My itunes wasnt recognizing either my or my husbands phones via wifi either, I took the suggestion of others and reconnected to wifi, didnt work. What ended up working for me was going into network preferences on the mac, and than advanced and deleting my network from the list of preferred networks, turning on wifi on my mac, quitting itunes, turning wifi on my mac back on, reconnecting to my network and opening up itunes. Just synced a song to my iphone via wifi no problem. Odd workaround but hopefully that helps you. I am running osx 10.8.2 and my phones are on ios 6.0.1

Do you have Lion 10.7.2 and iTunes 10.5.1?
    If you have see below:
    1. Connect iPhone to Mac with the cable.
    2. Mac iTunes: Select your device then click the Summary Tab.
    3. Checked the Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi.
    4. Click Sync button at the bottom right.
    5. When finished Syncing, DO NOT click the eject icon next to your device name.
Just detach the cable from your iPhone.
If successful, you can still see on the left pane in iTunes your iPhone device (even though no cable is connected).
If that's the case, every time you plug into a power supply, it will sync automatically.
Otherwise you can sync manually on your iPhone.  Tap Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync: Tab Sync How button.

  • TS4062 After using Setup Assistant, devices no longer appear in iTunes for Wifi Sync

I'm trying to fix an issue that is the result of a bug I disovered, and I'm out of ideas to troubleshoot. I'm hoping you guys will have some more suggestions, perhaps deleting plists or somehow resetting iTunes device syncing so I can start over.
    The bug:
Using Setup Assistant to transfer data over from my other parition which had iTunes configured to sync my devices causes the new partition's iTunes to NOT show devices in iTunes. When I plug my device in, the option to sync over Wifi is still enabled, but unplugging it still doesn't keep the device displayed in iTunes. Unchecking Wifi sync, clicking Apply, checking, clicking Apply and disconnecting results in the same problem - device disappears from iTunes. But if you go to Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, the Sync Now button is not grayed out. Clicking it starts the sync, but it never gets past the "Looking for iMac" stage.
I'm in the process of filing this bug with Apple, but I want to include the steps I've followed to fix the issue so they know.
What I've attempted so far (in this order):
    Quitting and relaunching iTunes
    Restarted my iPad
Then forcing a sync on the iPad via Settings is the same result, endlessly looking for the iMac
So then I opened AirPort Utility, clicked my Time Capsule, then clicked Base Station > Restart. After the Time Capsule restarted and the Wifi was working again, I checked back in iTunes to see if the iPad showed up - it didn't.
So then I turned off Wifi on the iPad, Quit and relaunched iTunes, then enabled Wifi on the iPad and it still didn't appear.
Note that the exact same thing is happening with my iPhone.
    iTunes 11.0.2
    OS X 10.8.3
    iOS 6.1.3
    Thanks guys!

Not even deleting plists, essentially resetting iTunes, solved the problem.
In case anyone has troubles with this and none of the troubleshooting steps worked, here is your last resort, which finally solved the problem for me.
    Use Terminal to delete iTunes:
    cd /Applications/
    sudo rm -rf iTunes.app/
    Download and install iTunes
The iOS devices magically appear in iTunes, without needing to plug in via USB to enable Wifi sync.

  • Bt hub 3, itunes, iphone, ipad syncing problems - not seen

Im using the new infinity BT hub 3 and there are now issues with syncing the iphone, ipad and itunes.  iTunes does not see them as devices consistantly and when it does (looking for "device"), it says it is not available to sync (not found on the network) and promply they disappear from the upper right hand corner.  BT say it's an itunes issue.
I have tried changing from WPA to WEP but this doesn't work, nor does plugging the computer into the ethernet.
The devices show as being on the network by the router, but are not available to sync in itunes
What do we think people? Any ideas to fix this?

As a fallback you could try using the usb cable rather than wifi.
However to you main problem with the wifi. I to have BT infinity and not only was I having issues with not seeing the devices but also a slow speed of streaming to Apple TV3.
Turns out my issue was interference on the wifi from other wifi networks on the same channel.
Mountain Lion has a new wifi utility details here
    http://9to5mac.com/2012/07/31/use-mountain-lions-new-wi-fi-scan-utility-to-optim ize-your-home-wireless-network/
Found thayt there seemed to be 3 or 4 houses on channel 6, Changed mine to channel 11, via the BT hub admin page. When everyting settled down again plugged in my devices via USB made sure they were wifi sync enabled and now all works as it should.
If you do not run mountain lion then look for istumbler on google, does the same job and its free

  • ITunes 12 WiFi Sync with iPad/iPhone not working

Previously with Mavericks and iTunes 11, my iPad and iPhone showed up in the side bar and I could sync from the either device. With Yosemite and iTunes 12.0.1.26, neither device shows up in iTunes 12 (That I can find). Hitting Sync Now in General/iTunes Wifi Sync on an iPhone results in a continuous "Looking for John's iMac" without ever succeeding. My iMac is connected to a current gen AP Extreme via Ethernet. I have also enabled WiFi on the iMac with no luck.
Any ideas on how to get this to work?
    TIA
    John

I too have been having this issue for some time. For me it's after I upgraded to Yosemite. I also have an old MacBook running Lion that syncs with my kid's old iPhone4 over WiFi. I noticed that the MacBook has no problems syncing with the iPhone4. Meanwhile, my iMac running Yosemite was having other problems. Namely, its computer name keeps getting changed by having (#) appended to the end after every sleep/wake cycle. See this thread for an explanation of the symptom:  computer name changed automatically
After doing some research on here and some experimentation on my own, I came up with this possible fix.
We have 3 iDevices that sync to the iMac (Yosemite). Two of them are connected to it by USB at night. The other (iPad Air) is strictly WiFi. As of the Yosemite upgrade, the iPad Air has had issues connecting to the iMac via WiFi. So today I checked on the iPad and sure enough in WiFi Sync prefs it was looking for "MyMac (3)" instead of "MyMac". I made sure the computer name on the iMac is fixed (MyMac), then connected the iPad Air to it to initiate a sync. In WiFi prefs, it now correctly points to "MyMac". I disconnected the iPad and quit out of iTunes. I relaunch iTunes and it promptly shows all 3 iDevices. I can also initiate a remote WiFi sync from within iTunes.
I'm not sure if the computer name change issue originated in Mavericks because I didn't use it for long. But for Yosemite, this seems to have fixed it for me and it beats restoring all my iDevices. Let me know if this works for you.

  • WiFi sync problem

Syncing over WiFi was eagerly awaited, but in the YEARS since its introduction, it has NEVER worked satisfactorily for me, or for ANYONE else I know that tries to use it. I have maybe half a dozen iOS devices that need to be synced, although fortunately, automatic updating means this is not required as often as it once was because it's appallingly flakey.
All my devices have been set to use WiFi sync and (usually) appear in the iTunes sidebar under 'Devices'. I click one and see the 'overview' screen on the RHS, but when I then click to see the apps on that device, I just get a message saying "Looking for xxxxx", then after about a minute it goes away and the device vanishes from iTunes. Sometimes I can get further and actually make some changes, but then the above happens when I try to 'Apply' the changes. Even more rarely (like almost NEVER) it will actually succeed.
    These things occur to me:-
WiFi (wireless ethernet) has been around a LONG time now and is well understood by almost everyone that elects to use it in their products - except Apple. How can such a basic function be so badly implemented by Apple. How hard can it be to make iTunes and iOS stay connected? I have an ethernet network around the house and WiFi base Stations (Apple Airports) and all devices seem to be able to use it and stay connected as required - except between iTunes and iOS. Heck, those exact same iOS devices and the Mac on which iTunes is running ALL remain PERFECTLY connected to the network even while iTunes is failing at this most basic level.
I realise however there can be technical difficulties with technology like this and it can take time to get it working perfectly, but how long do they need? It's been YEARS since WiFi sync was introduced, so why does it still NOT work.
This is I admit a bit of a rant, but it's undeniably irritating that such a useful function, promoted by Apple as one of the great features of iOS is still utterly ***** (insert expletive of your choice). However, maybe others have it working perfectly, in which case I'd like to hear from them in case there is some way to solve the problem, but I doubt it as it doesn't work for anyone I know.
So, does ANYONE have WiFi sync working reliably? How many devices?

  • ITunes 11 wifi sync will not recognize my iPad 2 and iPhone 4 running iOS 6

Since I upgraded to iTunes 11, iTunes no longer recognizes my iPad 2 and iPhone 4 (both running iOS 6.0.1) as active devices for the purposes of wifi sync.  It does, however, recognize my iPad 1 running iOS 5.  The only way I can sync my iPad 2 or iPhone 4 is to attach the USB cable.
The older version of iTunes 10 started exhibiting this behavior when iOS 6 was released, but I was able to get iTunes to recognize the devices by powering them off and then back on.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?  Some advice from Apple would be appreciated.

Guys, I just performed the Itunes update and experienced the same (honestly I was expecting it),
My sollution was, clear up caches on both iPad 2 and  iTunes.
Exactly what I did was the following:
    1. Update iTunes.
    2. Deactivate the home sharing on iTunes.
    3. Disconect iPad from home sharing.
    4. On iTunes>Preferences>Devices "Allow" the automatic sync for iPod, iPhone & iPad
    5. Click on the button labeled "restart synchronization historical" (sorry, don't know how the button looks in English, mine is in Spanish)
    6. Click Ok
    7. To clear up iPad's caché I force reset the device by pressing and hold both buttons on the device (front and top)
    8. Activate the home sharing on both devices again and voilá... there is my full blues collection again!
Maybe for some people it will work this way just fine and for others by doing in a different order, after all for what I see is a caché issue.
Let me know if it was of any help, I'm more PC than mac but network issues are the same and I'm more than glad to help and learn any time.

  • Itunes 10.2.2.12 - All Itunes 10 Version Sync problems

I am using Windows XP PC latest service pack, I have  a newer 5th Gen 16GB Ipod Nano, I now have the latest Itunes 10.2.2.12. Every since I have had this newer Ipod Nano, and with first version of Itunes 10, nothing but syncing problems. After calling  Apple Ipod Tech Support, and scouring Apple Help screens and forums, just like Apple Tech Support reps, the recommendation is mostly the same, they have me go through the grueling, time consuming process of Uninstalling and Re-installing Itunes, which I have done many times, sometimes it would help in syncing, many times not. Also tried other Apple support recommendation tricks with Apple Mobile Device too, and even upgraded to a Higher speed USB Port, again it would sync for a while and then eventually would start having same sync problems again, even after updating to the latest Itunes. Errors: Itunes is Unable to locate Ipod attached, or The required folder cannot be found.
When exactly will Apple tech Support put out a New Fully Stable Itunes Version to correct and remove these problems that occur over and  over again, with so many Ipod users online?? I am getting so frustrated, that I am looking for Itunes and even Ipod better alternatives to avoid these big time consuming headaches. Anybody have a Full solution, or at least somewhat permanent Solution to these Ipod sync Errors?? Thanks for your time.

well i'm running iTunes same vsn on a brand new iMac i7 2.93GHz and i'm constantly having to wait while the old beach ball of death appears. it usually only halts normal operation for 15 to 40secs but thats ridiculous enough. i've got 16Gb of DRAM and even with no other apps running this happens - and it happens about every 3 mins or so. crazy.
    9037 songs in the library.
i guess this is better than iPhoto 9 which crashed and refuses to boot full stop, in spite of several re-instals.
and i thought the new world of apple was gonna be rosy. hmmmm.

  • Downloading from Itunes via Wifi & Syncing to 2 Macs

I want to download some music on my iphone via itunes. I have two mac computers an Imac and a Macbook. My question is that will my iphone sync the music I download via wifi itunes to both my mac computers when I connect my Iphone to Each of them? I just bought the macbook and have never plugged my iphone into it yet. I guess my second question is can I even plug my iphone into both computers so I can have my itunes insync on both computers?

thanks for the reply. Will the music that I downloaded on my iphone via itunes wifi sync to both my computers when i connect the iphone? or will it only sync the songs I download on my iphone to the first computer I connect to? i thought i heard somewhere that it doesnt transfer songs from the iphone to your mac, only from your mac to the the iphone. But if I use the itunes wifi to download my music I heard that it will sync back to itunes my mac. I'm just trying to figure out how to get the music I download via itunes on my iphone to sync to both my mac.

  • OSX iTunes to touch sync problem...ARGH

I have had my iPod touch for a few weeks now, but the other day it stopped syncing - partly.
Let me explain: I can sync Music, Movies, Podcasts and Photos, it is only if I tick anything on the "Info" tab in Itunes that I get an error message. Means: If I want to sync address book, iCal, Mail accounts or bookmarks, iTunes starts syncing the music etc, but then spits out an errormessage when it gets to the latter:
"iTunes could not sync mail accountsto the iPod because the sync serverfailed to sync the iPod"
I then started up up the console to have a look what it wanted to tell me, here is what I got:

  • WiFi Sync Problems

    Hi,
I have the latest iTunes (10.5.1.4) running on my Windows 7 64 bit PC.
    I have an iPad (ver.1) running iOs 5.0 (9A334).
After installing iTunes, I connected the iPad using the USB cable, checked "Sync with this iPad over Wi-Fi", and performed the initial sync.
When sync was complete I unplugged the USB cable and my iPad remained iniTunes under the DEVICES section.
I was able to perform all sync's using only the WiFi connection.
    Everything worked perfectly.
Then I rebooted my PC and restarted iTunes.
My iPad is no longer listed under devices and WiFi syncing is non possible.
Why is iTunes forgetting my sysn settings?
I have not seen an answer to this question.  When WiFi Sync works, it's GREAT.  But I can't get it to work after the initial time.
    Once I reboot, it's gone.

Well, I tried a basic restore and it fails with error code 10. Phone is now a very nicely designed paper weight...

  • Iphone disappears from itunes after wifi sync

I've been struggeling to get wifi sync to work correctly with my iphone 4.  I have the newest version of itunes on a Windows 7 PC.  When I first open itunes it sees my iphone over wifi and syncs successfully.  A couple minutes after syncing completes, itunes loses my iphone.  My iphone still shows up under devices, but if I click on any of the tabs in the device it then brings up the dialog box searching for the phone, then it tells me it cannot find it and it disappears from devices.  If I close itunes and reopen it the iphone shows up again and syncs.  Any idea what could be causing this?
So far in my quest to make this work I have opened ports 5354 and 27015 for inbound TCP.  I have also set the Bonjour and Apple Mobile Device services to Automatic Delayed Start as mentioned in other threads.

It seems like it periodically reappears in itunes, but then if I try to sync or do anything its says "looking for iphone" and eventually tells me it can't be found on the network.

  • Remove iTunes U wifi sync seems impossibile...

    Goodmorning.
I installed and removed ITunes U on my Ipad 2 when I was using an older computer.
Now I browsed ipad general settings, and under the itunes Wifi sync I find an older ITunes U sync to my older Pc.
Please note that ITunes U is unintalled and the older pc is unavailable: how to remove the ITunes U sync?

Tim - were you able to get this resolved?  I have had this same issue.  Usually a full reboot helps but I have also been able to close down iTunes, open Activity monitor and kill the usbmux process and iTunesHelper process.  Then open up iTunes again.
I think, and this is only my opinion, that when iTunes is open and you close the lid (put it to sleep) the usbmux that it uses to sync over wifi gets funny when it wakes back up.
    Good luck!
