  • Downloading Itunes again onto new computer, protecting current library

Hi, first of all my apologies if I'm posting in the wrong forum. Please let me know if I am, and where I should post my question/problem.
First of all I'm quite new to Itunes and the Ipod. I received an Ipod Nano 3rd generation as a gift several months ago. On my old computer (Dell Desktop, Windows XP), I had downloaded Itunes, had no trouble keeping my library and syncing the Ipod each time I needed to, or whenever I charged my Ipod. I also had my Ipod registered on my Itunes. My problem is I don't have access to my old computer any longer. I recently had to abruptly change computers. I'm currently using Toshiba laptop and Windows XP. Can I download Itunes again onto this new computer and register my Ipod again? If I do this, how can I ensure I don't lose my current library. I have less than 500 songs at present, but I don't want to lose all the music I paid for. But I don't want to mess anything up by registering my Ipod again. Am I making sense? I'm going to need to charge my Ipod soon, so if anyone has any ideas to help me, I'd appreciate it. Also, I didn't have any way to backup my Itunes library by burning to disc. Eventually, I'll be acquiring another laptop, a Dell laptop that will be using Windows Xp also. Sorry if this is confusing. I'm confused myself, lol!

*Can I download Itunes again onto this new computer and register my Ipod again*
Yes you can download the iTunes program onto your new computer, you don't need to register the iPod over again to use it on another computer.
*how can I ensure I don't lose my current library*
If your iPod is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
*Also, I didn't have any way to backup my Itunes library by burning to disc.*
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible - Windows version only)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • ITunes 10 won't show some artwork?

After I upgraded to iTunes 10, I noticed that some of the artwork will no longer display in the column view. It's still there, it just won't show up. Why would this happen?

To be honest I think the way the new iTunes handles artwork now is a pretty big retrograde step, you now can't scale the artwork in the list view plus loads of the cover art is now just not there thanks to this "clever" new system.
Hmm, I really miss these aspects of iTunes!
This other thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2564803&tstart=0 also talks about this issue but thanks for the tips on this thread. Let's hope Apple fixes this ASAP.

  • ITunes 10 won't show me my songs.

I just downloaded iTunes 10 and it won't display my songs.
I use Snow Leopard (got it recently)
When I had iTunes 9 it wouldn't work, and every time I reopened it it would crash immediately.
Now iTunes 10 doesn't crash, but when I import songs, the songs are imported and they start playing, but it doesn't show up in the library.
Also, whenever I click "Movies" and then "Music", the movies introduction page just stays there and sort of freezes.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Try testing with an alternate iTunes library, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589. After launching iTunes while holding the Option key, import a few tracks and test viewing/playback in the alternate library.
If the issue persists, try removing and reinstalling iTunes as shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224.
If the issue only occurs with the primary iTunes library, try re-creating it. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451 will walk you through the process.

  • Itunes info selected calendars shows non-current iCal list -- why?

Hello, I just purchased an iPhone (3.1.2) and wanted to sync a couple selected calendars from my mac onto my iPhone. Problem is that the list of "Selected calendars" does not have the 2 new ones I created for this purpose, and worse, is showing a few I thought I deleted a while ago.
Does anyone know where I would look for the root problem and better yet -- how I might fix this?
    thanks

    Here's the answer:
I migrated from one mac to another mac a month ago and used migration assistant. Calendars all looked good. I subsequently did calendar maint -- deleted a couple and created a couple new ones. NP, they all work fine in iCal. Then I bought an iPhone and wanted to sync my 2 new calendars to the phone.
Problem: in iTunes, the "Selected calendars" list is old, not current. I notice that in users/../library/calendars are by timestamp, what I guess are my calendars. But in users/../library/application support/ical there are files timestamped from the day I migrated, and the same number of files as calendars that I had before.
If I remove all files from users/../library/calendars and restart iCal, it recreates all my calendars as they appeared on migration day, so I assume getting them from the second location, which I assume iTunes is also???
What I ended up doing was after having iCal recreate the calendars from the second location, I imported all of the .ics files for the newly created calendars in users/../library/calendars from my backup -- always backup before messing with things -- into new calendars in iCal. Though this all seem crazy redundant.
Now iTunes see the correct calendar list. No idea why I had to go through all of this.

  • ITunes movie purchase - not showing in cloud library on iphone

    Hello
Yesterday I redeemed a 25 dollar USD ITunes gift card.
I used it to purchase two movies.
The second movie I purchased (Brick) ended up using a cross between iTunes credit and my credit card.
Anyway, I can see it in my purchase history on my iPhone 4s.
But you know how when you're on wifi it shows your purchases with a cloud icon?
Brick for some reason does not show up. The other movie does but not Brick
    Tried rebooting and stuff
    (Shows on Apple TV)

Hi WC, well as promised the results . . . . I redownloaded the triology (thanks support) but it made no difference. I still couldn't see The Bourne Identity in my Apple TV library (still all OK in library on my Mac). So ended up with two copies of all three films. So sent an email back to support this was their reply below (just received)
Carole Anne here. I see you are still unable to watch the last movie in the Bundle you purchased. I know how eager you are to watch your movies so I am going to do all I can to be of assistance.
I have reversed the charge for "The Ultimate Bourne Collection". In five to seven business days, a credit of 13.99 GBP should be posted to the credit card that appears on the receipt for that purchase.
I hope this helps, and again, please do not hesitate to reply to this email for further assistance. Have a great day!
So looks like even Apple iTunes support can't work it either. I'm gonna put the re embursment towards buying the four film bundle and hope that it works better. Thanks again for your help WC. BTW whilst wifey watches Pointless I record The Chase . . . . I like it better too.

  • Itunes 7 won't show songs when Ipod is plugged in.

I used to just plug in my ipod on the old Itunes, click on the "manage manually" button and be able to look at and play (through my computer) all of the songs on my IPOD (My home computer is a separate laptop)
So I downloaded Itunes 7 and when I plug in my IPOD, I can still play songs on my ipod, but that new "ipod summary-version-options" screen is up and I can't get rid of it to see the songs on my IPOD. I can still play the songs, but I can't cycle through the library or pick and specific ones.
Its probably something simple but does any know how to fix this?
    thanks

click the little triangle next to the ipod in the source list. when that is pointing down, you'll see "Music" and a list of playlists on the ipod. click on one of those to show the contents of the ipod, or the contents of a playlist on the ipod.

  • ITunes 11 won't add folder to library

Can someone please advise/try to troubleshoot a problem I have with my iTunes. I recently tried to add a folder to my iTunes, however it does not appear in the program itself. I tried various different ways to combat this; add multiple files rather than the folder, drag the folder in, restart my computer and changed the iTunes media file location as well yet all to no avail. The confusing thing is that the files will  go through all the normal processing on iTunes that normally happens (e.g. determing gapless playback information, copying the files themselves), and even get copied to the iTunes media folder as normally prompted, but they do not show up.
If it helps I have only just installed iTunes 11.
Please if anyone could help I would be grateful
    Thanks
    Sam

    Hi TheHillma,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If songs are being copied to your iTunes Media folder, but not appearing in the iTunes library, there may be some unusable information in the iTunes library files. You may want to try the method outlined in this article:

  • ITunes playlists won't show on IPhone4s

I've got a new IPhone 4s.   But now when I sync with I Tunes on my MacPro....the play lists only show a few songs in each playlist.
Example I have 30 songs in one playlist in ITunes....everything is checked and everything plays just fine.
But after syncing via a cable...Only 4 songs show up on my IPhone4s.  I talked with someone at Apple and they said they know there has been an occasional complaint of this happening...  They said that the engineers are working on it..
Does anyone know of a work around to get my music onto my IPhone......maybe importing the ITunes music folder in some other form?
    Thanks
    Rich

What type of iPod do you have? Currently only the iPod classic and the new nanos support the folder structure on the iPod that will allow you to create playlists with a playlist.
Older iPods (and you are posting in the forum for older iPods, hence my question) do not support this and only show playlists as lists of songs even though iTunes allows you to create folders.

  • My iPhoto images won't show, and Photo Library Repair will not open when I command-Option-click on the iPhoto icon.

Some of my iPhoto albums will not show, as below:
When I click on any of those individual albums, for a brief split second I can see the images displayed, but then they revert to this:
Then if I click on any of those images, this image appears:
I have real a lot of posts that say to click Command+Option while opening iPhoto and this will open the Photo Library Repair window, but... this is not happening. Each time I do it, iPhoto just opens as it normally does. I've tried about 10 times, closing iPhoto completely. I've tried through the dock icon and through the applications listing. Neither will open anything other than regular old iPhoto.
Can anyone help me and suggest what I may be doing wrong, or are there any alternative was to open Photo Library Repair so I can rebuild my library? I really don't want to lose all of those photos, especially since some are really important and irreplaceable.
    Thanks.

I have real a lot of posts that say to click Command+Option while opening iPhoto and this will open the Photo Library Repair window, but... this is not happening.
Be sure you're holding the correct keys and that you're holding them long enough. Depress them before clicking on iPhoto and don't let go until the menu shows up.
If you don't want to lose those photos, make a back up now. Hopefully it's not too late.

  • Itunes files won't show up in the menu

to import music into a movie, i found out that the dropdown menu only shows me as available, the preinstalled Apple audio effects and short audio files in iMovie. How do i make other forlders and itunes files available to imovie?

This continues to get crazier by the minute!  I completely deleted the event mentioned above and started from scratch.  Impoerted a few clips into this new event and most played properly...but only for a few minutes!  I got a call and afterward when I attempted to play clips in the timeline that had just played a minute ago there is now nothing happening!
Here's what they look like on the screen:
Some of them show an audio waveform but most do not.  Does ANYONE have any idea what to do here????
    I'm dead in the water!!!!!!!!
    Here's my timeline:
Just a minute prior to taking this shot the all played perfectly and then they were gone!

  • ITunes window won't show up?

I've tried repeatedly reinstalling, updating, etc...
    It started on iTunes 11.0.2
Is still a problem on 11.0.3
I've scanned for viruses, I've checked everything
The window opens for a split second when I start iTunes and then disappears
Everything is greyed out in the top bar menus
I can open the equalizer and get pop-up messages from iTunes but no window.
I've checked the expose and everything the window isn't hiding, it just won't open. It's simply not there.

  • Nike+ runs won't update to Nike+ site from itunes and won't show on itunes

ok. I have read through many posts that have had similar issues but not quite the same.
I have run and synced 18 workouts before this annoyance but all before i updated to itunes 9.2
I have two workouts that I can see in my ipod nano. i go to sync and they do not go to the nike+ website.
they will not show up in itunes on the Nike+ipod tab.
so I went through terminal and moved the runs from the "synced" folder to the "latest" folder in the nano. I made sure I could see them in the nano nike+ app. they're there.
so i go to sync through itunes. it says it's sending it to nike+ site. go to nike and they're not there. I look on the nike+ tab in itunes and it doesn't show it. It shows a 30 second test run that I deleted only. BUT, this is what stumps me, within the nano the 2 runs move from the "latest" folder to the "synced" folder. I'll go back into terminal and move the runs back and this viscous cycle repeats.
all my old runs are still in the nano and on the nike+ site. is itunes effing up or is the nano?? I don't know.
Here's a bit more about the 30 second test run i just mentioned. so, I thought maybe the .xml files (the runs) were messed up so I recorded a new one. 30 seconds long just to see what happens. I tried to sync it. shows up in itunes, says it sent it to the nike+ site. nope. not there. so I went into the nano and removed the test run through terminal. it's gone. i go through the nano and there is no 30 second test run. Whenever i plug in the nano now, itunes says my last run is the 30 second run that I have physically removed from the nano. huh?
i ran with my iphone today and it's been no problem at all. ran and it synced no problem.
maybe my nano is "corrupted" (whatever that means since it's working fine aside from this) and i have to reset it. i'm willing to do that if I can get all my runs (the .xml files) off the nano and put them back in. but i don't know how to pull files off the nano but will figure it out but wanted to see if anyone else gets this weirdness.
    please help

  • Video plays in iTunes, but won't show on ipod

I'm a first time poster since I'm usually able to figure out what to do by looking in the archives first. However I haven't seen this yet. I successfully converted some home video and imported them into iTunes. Here's the kicker...only one of the movies loaded to my ipod. I have the options on my ipod set to automatically update so I'm not sure why only one would load.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If your movies play in iTunes but not on iPod... right-click the video file in your iTunes Library and click "Convert Selection for iPod" this will convert your movie to the proper format that iPod can handle.
    Hope I helped.

  • Can't accept EULA because itunes window won't show me "OK" button

My ipod mini died so I bought an ipod nano. itunes recognizes the new ipod and wants me to accept a EULA, but the text window in which it displays the EULA is too narrow (and can't be widened) and as a result I can't even see the OK or Accept button (or whatever it is) because it's off to the right of the visible space in the window (and of course there's no horizontal scroll bar). Any suggestions?
