ITunes 11 x iOS 6 Playlist Sorting Fiasco continued...

I know people have been complaining about this for ages and after reading 50 posts I can't seem to find an answer or solution so I'll ask here and see if someone can help.
Why can't my iOS device (6.0 iPhone 5) sort my Playlists in the same order in which they are sorted in the iTunes 11 library?
I usually create newer playlists on top (marked with a dash to keep them up) but they are always sorted alphabetically on the iPhone.
The songs within the playlists are fine but the playlists themselves aren't sorted like they are in iTunes.
Is Apple ever going to address this?
I've fiddled for an hour and don't think there's a way to sort it as-is in iTunes.
Mind blowing
Anyone? Apple? Hello?

"I'm guessing iOS ignores the iTunes sort order--and special characters used to force the sort order--because of Siri."
Your answer makes sense. I used to force playlists to the top of the order with • , but since I put ios6 on my iPod Touch this stopped working. And it was kinda' bugging me.
However, your comment helped me stumble on an imperfect, yet usable solution. I have a number of playlists that are Greek albums. You reminded me that the play lists labelled in Greek used to alphabetize at the end of my playlists, but are now at the top.
I re-ordered the couple of playlists that I want a the top with an ω (omega) as a prefix, and viola, they're at the top of my English playlists. (The rest of the Greek stuff still ends up at the very top).
At any rate, I didn't play around with any other keyboards, but it might be a solution. Albeit, imperfect.

  • Ios 5 playlist sorting problem

I'm having a problem with my iPhone 4S playlist sort order after restoring from a backup from my iPhone 4.  I have several playlists that I want sorted first, so I've put numbers in front of them.  On my iPhone 4, the playlist sort order is correct:
    1
    2
    3
    4
    A
    B
    C
However on my iPhone 4S the order is:
    A
    B
    C
    1
    2
    3
    4
I can't seem to be able to put my numbered ones first anymore!  Anyone know what the problem is or a solution?

  • Bug: iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5 podcast smart playlist sort order and how to fix.

There seems to be a bug in iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5 involving the sort order of a smart playlist of podcasts. I created such a playlist and sorted by release date on iTunes but I noticed it had a different sort order on the iPod Touch.
After playing around with it a bit I found that the only way to preserve the sort order that I have in iTunes on the iPod Touch is to uncheck "Live Updating" in the smart playlist.

Confirming this incredibly annoying bug.  Basic list sorting not working... real bottom shelf work apple.
workaround update:  limit to must be turned on, set it to an absurdly high number if you don't want to actually limit the playlist, then one of the sortby options in that submenu will work.   The live update checkbox is irrelevant from experimentation.
This workaround does NOT fix the fundamental problem: sort order from itunes in smart playlists is not being synced and preserved in ios5 devices.
This is the latest in a long string of debacles which is making me seriously consider swapping to debian stable. (snow leopard to lion was a severe downgrade in performance for anyone doing heavy multitasking.. scheduling is FUBAR... when a command option escape beachballs on a brand new core 17 machine, your OS has serious problems with nice levels)

  • IOS 5 sync with iTunes not keeping playlist sort

Anyone else have the problem of iTunes playlists not keeping their sort when sync'ed to iOS 5(iPhone 4)?

    Fixed, sort of!
I'm having the exact same issue with iTunes 10.5, iOS 5 on an iPhone 4S.  My regular (not smart) playlist was sorted by "Date Added" newest on top, and in my phone it seemed to be sorted by "Date Added" oldest on top (which is silly because I want to play my new music more often than my old music...)
Anyway, on a whim, I tried sorting my iTunes playlist by "Plays" and synced and it WORKED (properly sorted by "Plays" on my iPhone).  Thinking I had fixed the issue, I again sorted by "Date Added" newest on top, and synced, and the iPhone reverted to "Date Added" oldest on top...
Thinking it might be just the "Date Added" column sorting that's F'd, I sorted by "Name," and synced and it WORKED (properly sorted by "Name" on my iPhone).
Not wanting to test each column, I decided to leave it sorted by "Plays," least on top, which is similar to "Date Added" newest on top, but not exactly.  It'll have to do until Apple fixes this issue.
Conclusion: At least the "Date Added" column sorting in iTunes is completely disregarded on the iPhone, choose another sort column for now

    Hi Dennis!
I have a couple of steps for you to try in order to get those songs transferred to your iPod touch. First, make sure all of your software is updated with the latest versions. If the songs were downloaded from iTunes, you will also want to delete the songs from your library and then download them again from the list of past purchases on your iTunes account. An article about doing that can be found here:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If you try a sync after those two steps and are still seeing the issue, then I would like you to try syncing the iPod by setting it to manually manage. An article outlining more information on manually managing your iPod sync can be found here:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
If you are still having issues after that, I have another article that can outline some other reasons why your songs may not transfer to your iPod, and it can be found here:
Some songs in iTunes won't copy to iPod

  • ITunes Match Smart Playlist sorting on iOS7 by date added?

    Playlist works find on iTunes.
Messed up on both iPad + iPhone
Criteria basically sorts by genre, and only for songs added within X months.
I have tried to add the criteria "Kind = music", and also limiting to 9999 songs, sorted by date.
The first few songs are correct and in the right order, but after that there are just random songs.
    Any ideas?

Hi guys, i have cracked it!!
Ok, manage music manually on your iphone, plug into your computer in itunes to do all this
. In each playlist, Sort by date added latest date at top of page
. On yr iphone, make a new playlist, call it ie: chill 2 or pop 2 etc
. Grab the chill playlist from iphone playlist and drag all into chill 2 folder
. Delete chill playlist from iphone
. Rename chill 2 playlist to be 'chill' same name as itunes playlist so it can sync when you sync again
I did this with all my playlists, within the iphone itself whilst connected to computer itunes, now on my iphone, i see all my playlists as date added not alphabetical!!
This has annoyed me for ages!! So glad i cracked it!! Found no answers on the internet, but so many people asking!!
    Cheers and goodluck

  • Playlist sort order not carried to iTouch

After upgrade to IOS 5, playlist (podcasts) sort order in iTunes on MBP is not maintained when syncing w/ iTouch.  No options on iTouch to sort.
    Thoughts or bug?
Related...one podcast would not purge from iTouch via sync, so had to restore iTouch.  Did not fix sort order transfer problem.

I am also having the same problem. Running the newest iTunes and iPhone software my smart playlists are not working correctly. My "Recently Added" is correct in iTunes, and if I look at the playlist on my iPhone info in iTunes it is correct there, but the actual playlist on my iPhone is populated entirely with audiobook files. I have tried deleting and recreating the playlist which gives the same results. I have also specified that items within the playlist should be music files only and still get the same results.
I have a playlist that's Top 50 Most Played that's also not behaving properly (ie correct in iTunes but not on my iPhone).
    Any suggestions?

  • Help needed: How can I import a large audio collection with many playlists? iTunes crashes because so many playlists try to load and play at once.

I've got a problem that I can't seem to figure out after reading scads of articles and posts. I'd be grateful for any help or ideas you can provide. Here's what's going on.
I have a folder of GraphicAudio audio books. It contains roughly 500 subfolders, one for each book. In each folder are the mp3 files for the book and an m3u file that was supplied with the books at the time of purchase. None of this content is currently in my iTunes library.
When I try to add this folder to my iTunes library, iTunes starts trying to play each playlist it encounters. It crashes after around 30 seconds. I suspect this is because it tries to switch and play playlists so rapidly.
I don't actually want iTunes to start playing each playlist it finds. I just want to import my files. Once they're imported, I can select them and send individual books to my iPod Touch.
Do any of you know of a work-around for this? I'm dreading the thought of having to import each subfolder one by one. I keep thinking that if I could just prevent iTunes from automatically trying to play the playlists, it would import the mp3s and playlist info without a problem. If there's no way to do this in iTunes, might there be a third party app that can manage it somehow?
For reference, I'm using the latest version of 64 bit iTunes under 64 bit Windows 7.
Thanks for taking the time to help me.

I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background.
That said you should probably start by "undoing" the creation of extra mp3s. If you sort the song list on the Date Added column you can select then first song from the relevant batch, then scroll to the end of the group, hold shift and click to select the range. You can then delete and send to the recycle bin.
My script won't be as effective against this group. The "Convert to format" tool may well specifiy a different bit rate from the source file, but it won't ever increase the quality of the audio. Clearly converting 128k mp3 to 256k mp3 would have no benefit so you want the original files.
If you still have duplicates use the script to thin out what remains.

Got a new external hard drive. Transferred all files from old hard drive to new hard drive. Connected hard drive to macbook. How do I get all my files to be recognized by iTunes and my already made playlists??

Trying to download photos from IPHONE, IPAD to IPHOTO in IMAC after installing new hard drive.
How did you import the photos to iPad and iPhone?
If the photos have been synced to the iPhone and iPad using iTunes, you cannot sync them back.
    See this document:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures in the Camera Roll or Saved Photos from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device:
If your photos are not in the Camera Roll on your devices, save them to the Camera Roll, share them to the Photo Stream, mail the photos, or, if you have iPhoto on the devices, use iTunes Photo Sharing.
    http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/2.0/?handbuch#blnkee26bc1
Save photos to your computer using iTunes
Connect your iOS device to your computer.
Tap a photo, album, event, web journal, or slideshow and tap Share> iTunes.
Tap Selected, or change the photos you want to save (if you are saving a slideshow skip to step 4):
Select different photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap one or more photos, and tap Next.
Select a range of photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap Range, tap the first and last photos in the range, and tap Next.
Select all the photos in an album or event: Tap All.
In iTunes, click the button for your device and click Apps at the top of the window.
Below File Sharing, select iPhoto (in Apps).
Select the Shared Photos folder under iPhoto Documents.
Click Save To and select the location on your computer where you want to save the items.
To view your photos, go to the Finder and look in the location you selected above.

  • ITunes match not syncing normal playlists correctly

I have iTunes match enabled on my computer and on my iOS device. I made a playlist that consists of 195 songs on my computer. I opened Music on my phone, and I see the playlist there with all 195 songs no problem. I open iTunes on my computer and delete a few songs down to 128. My iOS device still shows 195 songs.. I restart iTunes and my iOS device and iTunes still shows 128 songs, and my iOS device shows 195. I hit update iTunes Match on iTunes on my computer and all those songs I deleted are back and it is showing 195 songs on the computer now too. How do I update my playlist using iTunes Match? Is the service this buggy/unreliable?
I also noticed I have reset my play count on iTunes on the computer and it is all back too. It is like any changes on iTunes on the computer are not updating to iTunes Match.

I am also having problems with smart playlists on OS7 iphone 4s with mountain Lion on my mac
I have two smart playlists, one for music not played in 6 months, the other for zero plays, the other criteria for the lists are media type 'music' and track time ' less than 15 minutes.
These two playlists have 619 items and 108 items respectively in my mac but on the phone it shows 2962 items (for both lists) and a cloud symbol next to the track - although scrolling down, there are some tracks that do not have the cloud symbol - these look like the original 619 and 108 in the lists
Other smart playlists are fine and appear to be not affected

  • Recently Played Playlist sorting

    Hello
I recently bought a 6th generation ipod nano...On syncing the nano to my PC I found that the Recently Played playlist sorts in alphabetical order by artist on the ipod but sorts by most recent on itunes...Is there a way to change the sort on the nano? I have already gone into the items under the nano on itunes and changed it in there but the nano does not change.
    thanks

My Recently played playlist is not correct. My setting is:
Match all of the following rules:
Last played is in last 3 days
    Playlist is Music
    Media kind is not Podcast
but it does not work, the playlist is not correct.
Delete the rule saying "Playlist is Music" and see what you get.
Also, make sure you have it set for Live Updating.

  • Ios 8 playlist gone

Now that I have updated to the newest iOS 8 and I try to sync my playlists from iTunes, I can see the playlists in the tree on the left, but they are no where on my iPhone.  I have removed all of the music and turned off the sync music option.  I then made sure the iTunes Match was turned off too.
I then rebooted the iPhone and the computer and restarted to try to sync all of my music.  It took forever and the music synced and copied.
I see the music if I look at the Artist, Album and Genre, but the playlists are MIA.
Can we please look into this and get a resolution fast since I use my playlists a lot and I am very frustrated.

So I was able to figure this one out on my own.
I did a restore of my iPhone from a backup earlier today.
In iTunes, when the iPhone is connected, I checked the "Manually manage music and videos"
    I then clicked Sync.
I let it sync and waited.
It took two attempts, but I was able to get my playlists back.
The only thing different now is under the music area it does not have the check box for Sync Music
As long as I have my playlists now I am happy, but I hope this gets fixed and I am able to sync my music and videos like before.
    Thanks for any help

  • Itunes match has removed my playlists from itunes and my iphone. Not only that, many of the songs 'matched' on itunes do not show up on my iphone. Seriously annoyed, wish I'd never paid for it

Please read the title; itunes match has removed my playlists on itunes and iphone and the songs that are supposedly 'matched' on itunes are not showing up on my iphone.
    Any Really annoyed about this

iTunes Match does not have the ability to remove local files.
The service operates by comparing the selected iTunes Library with the iTunes Store content and 'matching' or 'uploading' - it is very straightforward a 'match' provides equivalent access to iTunes Store content as a recognised 'purchase'; upload simply copies a 256k AAC variant into the cloud.  There are no elements of this activity that can erase the local library content.
Would suggest you explore possible alternative causes of file loss.  Given the pattern described of selective deletion, leaving many Songs intact - would suggest making at least 2 secure offline Song file backups and starting the library again from a fresh install of iTunes once a thorough sweep of the system has been completed for virus.  It is also worth assessing the physical security of the system - who has access & with what privileges.
To access Songs from the cloud, you would have to manually delete the Song from the library or open an empty library - so even when accessing content, iTunes Match provides no local deletion capability.
