ITunes 12.0.1 takes 5+ minutes to launch?! (Windows 8.1 64-bit)

So about a month ago iTunes just stopped launching all together, I didn't know if it was after the 12.0.1 update or not, but I thought it was not launching at all. But I would come back to my PC and find that it had eventually launched? So I closed it and waited, and it took about 5 mins to launch! So I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, same issue. I followed all apples support guides and nothing, and nothing from the support communities fixed this. So I uninstalled iTunes, Apple updated, apple software support, bonjour. mobile services, and deleted every single folder related to anything apple (program files, program data, appdata, all of it!), and only kept my music. Reinstalled itunes... and same issue, it takes forever to launch! When I launch it, "iTunes (32-bit)" shows up in the task manager, but not as a program, but as a background process until 5+ minutes later when it actually shows up as a program? So what can I do to resolve this? I've never had issues with itunes and I don't know what's going wrong, could it be 12.0.1? I didn't make any major changes to my PC besides installed regular windows updates and updating drivers? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi tman2damax11,
I'm sorry to hear you have been having issues with iTunes. It also sounds like you have been on the right track in your troubleshooting. If you continue to have delayed launch issues, you may want to doublecheck the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article (apologies if you have already seen it):
iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues - Apple Support
You may also want to make sure that you have installed/reinstalled the 64bit version of iTunes for Windows:

  • Help viewer takes 5 minutes to launch after transferring data from ibook

I have bought an iMac and transferred my data from my old iBook G4 (Tiger) using the migration assistant. The iMac is running Tiger 10.4.11 as is the iBook.
When I launch the "Help Viewer" the beach ball starts spinning. Two messages appear one after the other a couple of times:
    1. *AFP connection status* (in German: AFP-Verbindungsstatus) telling me that the iMac is searching for "yrib", which is the iBook's name and
    2. *Connection failed* (in German: Verbindung fehlgeschlagen)
After about 5 minutes the help viewer's initial window shows finally!
What do I need to do so the help viewer does not take 5 minutes to launch?
    thanx
ps.: if it was possible to insert images I could show the screenshots...

    News, news!
thanx to BDAqua, but it still is not working!
Called apple, twice. Each time 45min. couldn't help! Now here's what I did and found out.
In Macintosh HD > Library I deleted the Preferences folder. And the "AFP" message didn't show, just 6 times the other one. Which turned my access to the help viewer down to 15 seconds!
Now the problem was that I couldn't get any access to the network. And I found out where the problem lies, just I can't solve it.
In Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration there is a file called
    preferences.plist
If this file is not there (=deleted) I have access to the help viewer in 15 seconds, still needing to click 6 (it's exactly 6) times the OK button of the "Verbindung fehlgeschlagen" message.
If the file is there, it's the old game.
    Anybody any idea?
I tried to figure out something using the "Property List Editor", but wasn't successful.
    thanx

  • My Itunes (10.5) literally takes 15 minutes to start up, what to do?

When I click the icon on my screen, nothing happens and after about 15 minutes my Itunes starts up and works perfectly. But I really need to wait way to long, it's becoming really annoying. I hope somebody knows what's going wrong because I can't change the program because of my ipod. Also annoying btw! Suggestions, anyone?

  • After Effects CC 2014 takes 10 minutes to launch

So, I downloaded and installed the CC 2014 updates.  And, it's been a debacle. Both After Effects and Premiere take well over 10 minutes just to launch. When AE CC 2014 finally does open, I receive the following error message: "QuickTime is not installed on this system, some components will not work correctly." That makes no sense, as Quicktime is installed on my system, and of course, AE CC still works fine. The issue is with AE CC 2014.  I tried to troubleshoot the error using this page http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2011/02/troubleshooting-quicktime-errors-with-after-ef fects.html But, that didn't help either.  Not sure how AE CC 2014 can be so broken, especially because CC works fine.

Are you using Mac OSX v10.9? I've noticed that Mac OSX v10.9 incorrectly sets the permissions for the preferences folders, which prevents some files from being written, causing problems like this.
Got to the preferences folder and make sure that this entire folder and all of its contents are set to read/write, not just read-only:
    <drive>/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.0

after trying to use program nothing happens in reliability monitor i get "program stopped" next to iTunes and quicktime i personally think the issue is strictly related to quicktime as the same issue appears to affect it as well clean re-install does no good, compatibility mode also does not solves the issue
i've followed all guidelines from http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ -no effect
    microsoft remains extremely unhelpful

    Many thanks for the diagnostics.
Failed while scanning for CD / DVD drives, error 2380.
Error while opening iTunes CD driver.  This could be caused by a corrupted iTunes file or a conflict with other older CD burning applications, either currently installed or previously installed and uninstalled incorrectly.
With that one, I'd start with solution 3 from the following document:
iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install

  • ITunes takes 30 minutes to start

After recently installing the newest iTunes update, iTunes has been taking about thirty minutes to start. Whenever I attach a device, such as an iPhone or iPod, or even put in a CD, similar results ensue, with iTunes taking another 10-20 minutes to respond, completely frozen all the while. I've read about this problem as much as I could online and I know it does not have to do with any kind of conflicting LSPs. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times now, which has done absolutely nothing. Could it be as simple as downgrading to a previous version? Any assistance would be appreciated.

I am attempting to download 2 films from itunes one states download in 54 minute and is 2.01 Gb and the other states 1.64gb and will take 4 hours to download any advice?

It seems that I have solved my issue by performing a full factory reset (erasing all content, something which I had hoped to avoid) restoring from an iCloud backup did not alleviate the issue, I had to set up as a new iPad.
Hopefully anyone else else who has this issue in the future will be able to find this.

  • After upgrade to iTunes 10.2 Sync takes 30-45 minutes EVERYTIME!

I know there is another thread about this, but it is marked as SOLVED when it is not. I've tried every suggestion there and nothing helps.
Before the upgrade, it took 1-2 minutes to sync. Now it take ~45 minutes every time, even if nothing has changed.
I am assuming that since these discussions are in the support area at apple.com that someone from Apple would be reading them. Is that true?
The only thing I can think to do now is to reinstall the version I was running before but I am afraid to do that because I don't want to lose all the changes I've made to my music database etc.
Can someone tell me if there is going to be a fix for this broken release or if it is safe to reinstall the previous version. I can't live with 30-45 minutes to perform a sync each time.

I'm just glad this happened before I went out and bought and iPad. I was very happy with the iPod despite the fact that it doesn't run Flash and the only way to get anything into it is through iTunes. Now It seems that Apple really isn't any better than Microsoft. They BROKE a perfectly good product and now it seems that their support forums are just a place where the customers can talk about how good their stuff USED to work before the 'upgrade'.
There doesn't even appear to be an Apple rep on these forums. We might as well be posting at hackers.com.

  • TS1717 Itunes takes 9 minutes to start and locks up!!!

I have done everything that was suggested.   I'm running Windows 7 Professional.  I first uninstalled both programs using Revo Uninstaller Pro so that every trace of Itunes and Quicktime was removed.  I reinstalled.  I made sure the SC files were gone.  I went to msconfig and stopped all services,
went te Startup programs and deleted everything except Itunes and Quicktime.  I change the boot up so that it loads only the Microsoft services because I had disabled all the others,  and the new startup files, which are just I tunes and Quicktime   Nothing has changed after the clean instal!!!!!
I started Itunes. It still take 8 or 9 minutes before it pops up, and then it keeps locking up, sometimes comes back after a minute.  It locks up when I insert a cd and when I take it out. That will usually start responding again in a minute or two. It also locks up for good, especially any time you want to use the file menu.
This has been going on for over a week and I am SO frustrated!   I tried installing an earlier version, but it wouldn't read the library because it was created with a later version.  I have been using computers since the 80's, and I know what I'm doing.  I have spent too many hours trying solutions that were supposed to help.
If so many people are having problems with this new version of 10, it has to be the software and you need to fix it!!  Or at least make a program so that an older version of Itunes can read the newer library until you get it fixed.  I have spent hours and hours cleaning up my library.
I just got a new Ipod and hooked it up to my stereo and I have at least another 30 gigs free that I wiould like to fill up.  This is miserable.
Itunes needs to FESS UP and admit is't something in the newer versions that is now broken.  It's buggy. Please please get your programers to fix it! And put the last good version of Itunes on your site.

See if this is of any assistance:

    Ciao.

  • ITunes 11.3.1.2 takes 2+ minutes to displays Podcasts list

iTunes 11.3.1.2 takes 2+ minutes to displays Podcasts list

There has been a long-standing issue with the way iTunes handles Podcasts when there are multiple episodes available.
When your iTunes Library checks for new episodes of subscribed Podcasts, it will download only the latest one. This is fine if there is only one episode since iTunes last checked. But if there are two or more, then iTunes still only downloads the latest one, and ignores the previous episodes. Apple's apparent attempt to resolve this issue is to show the other episodes, but with the download cloud icon next to them. All well-and-good, but it's not obvious that this is what is happening, particularly when the Unplayed Episode Count includes those non-downloaded episodes.
What compounds this issue is that the in-the-cloud episodes are listed in the Podcasts Library, which up until that change, only included media actually in your Library.
    kstinmb wrote:
My question is: What else do I have to set so that the podcast episodes I have subscribed to are automatically downloaded?
Submit a product Enhancement Request as feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html, although I suggest you don't get your hopes up. I submitted one a long time ago, but all Apple has done is introduce the "cloud" episodes, which has not solved the problem.
    kstinmb wrote:
I have subscribed to almost 100 podcasts and I should not have to go to each one in Library | My Podcasts and manually select the newest episodes. Am I not following the directions? Is there another step I have missed?
Please tell me how to have my subscribed podcasts download automatically.
The only thing you can do is set your iTunes to check for new episodes frequently enough to catch all the new ones.
However, even this may not be enough. There is a BBC programme that releases up to three new episodes every day, all within one hour. So even once and hour will not catch all three of these.

  • ITunes takes 10 minutes to load

I have HP Desktop with Windows Vista and latest version of iTunes. When I start iTunes it takes 10 minutes or more to load. My other friends using same version of iTunes on their computers with Vista say it loads much quicker. What can I do to speed it up? I have already tried defragmenting my hard drive and cleaning off all unused files. All my other programs are loading and operating okay.

Hmm. Those specifications are extremely high for iTunes.
I would think maybe it has something to do with loading your media. Is that stored somewhere other than your HDD or scattered around your HDD (rather than iTunes copying it onto it's own folder)?
