ITunes 12.01 performs INACCURATE iTunes library update

I am running Yosemite on an iMac purchased 18 months ago which I had custom built with the best options. However, this last iTunes update left over 100 music videos etc in my library as 'undiscoverable'. I have had to MANUALLY find these in my library and update them. I finally gave up, exhausted and now devoting my energy to alerting others of this problem. Any 'fixes' would be most welcomed. Dr Jim, San Antonio.

I was having the exact same problem. I found this solution on another thread, tried it and it worked. The iTunes download that is coming from the App Store must be corrupted. Go to Apple.com and find the "download iTunes now" page and download it directly from there. Take it from your "Downloads" folder and install as normal.

ITunes library updates are extremely slow (10 sec/update)

Hi All,
Since a week or two i'm experiencing extremely slow iTunes library updates. Adding a song, or skipping to the next song (which updates id3 info), causes iTunes to wait for 10 seconds. This is very frustrating when skipping trough a selection of 700 new songs. Costs me 2 hours extra to check the songs...
My system is okay; nothing out of the ordinary; it has been running like this for years now. Suddenly iTunes stopped being cooperative. Is there somebody that can help me out here?

Not plenty at all. In fact, very dangerously low on free space.
As a general rule, you should have at least 10%-15% free space on the boot drive for the OS to operate correctly. This is needed for swap files and for the OS to move files around correctly.
I recommend you immediately delete at least 45GB of old files from your boot drive. If not, it's simply a matter of time before you HD crashes and you lose everything.

ITunes library update.

/Documents/Music/iTunes
(not ~/Music/iTunes)
so i can use the same music files over 6 users, can someone help me write an action that will 'validate' my iTunes library and check that the applications library is the same as the music folder
it's easy with one user but i have 5.
I add the music through my admin account and have "copy files to library selected" so that one login udates the folder, i have the "copy files to library" option deselected in the other users, so it's basically like a kiosk setup.
I need something that updates my application everytime i log in to a user that's not the admin.

ITunes - Library Updating en masse

Hi... I recently purchased an IPod Classic. I had previously converted all of my CD's into an MP3 format on my computer. When I added them to the ITunes library, some of the data, such as, artist, genre, etc., is missing, misspelled, incorrectly labeled. I figured out how to make an update in the "get info" area. However, with over 8,000 songs already added, it will be time consuming to make adjustments individually. Is there any other methods to update quickly? Such as with a spreadsheet, copy & paste, etc.? My menus are really a mess and difficult to work with in the current format.

I have been using freeware named TagScanner to do this. It has a feature that accesses FreeDB to get the tag info, but I haven't figured out how to use it. But it does allow bulk changing of tags to change artist, song, renaming of files, fixing of case, etc.

I need help every time my iTunes library updates i get this error messege: The iTunes.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder. but the file should be there.

Its on the computer somewhere but it only affects this login on my computer (meaning on this Windows Account). Why does my iTunes do this? The iTunes folder is a folder in my Music folder where I store the iTunes music/files/libraries at on my computer so I can have all of the iTunes files in one place on my computer.

Please help! Deleting songs from itunes library & updating ipod

Must I keep all albums I wish to upload into my ipod on my computer? I have the ipod settings set to automatic and if I delete the album from the library (completely from my pc) the next time I connect my ipod the album gets deleted from the ipod.
I tried setting the ipod to manual but then I can't figure out how to update my ipod with the songs I want to add. It really doesn't make sense for me to have to fill up my hard drive with all of this music just to keep the songs on my ipod. I really hope someone can please tell me otherwise.

If it's on Manual update, you simply drag the songs from the library to the iPod in iTunes.
If you wan tot remove music, right click on it and select Clear. Do this with the iPod selected not a playlist on the iPod.

I'm confused. Is an apple email req'd before my iTunes+ library is updated?

I've been waiting...and waiting for a long time now. The first message was wait for an iTunes library update to make sure things are okay.
Nothing.
Now the message is: "Your latest itunes Plus upgrade is in process. Check back once you've received the email that your upgrade is ready, to see any newly available iTunes Plus music.
So what is the story?
Is my library updating in the background?
What happens when I turn off my computer for the night?
When will I get this mysterious email?

Thanks, Chris. You may be partially right about the queuing up of downloads...but when you check the Store>available downloads button the message is that everything is downloaded. Meanwhile the iTunes plus message remains "Your iTunes Plus Upgrade is in Progress. Check back once you've received the email that your upgrade is ready, to see any newly available iTunes Plus music."
So I guess there's no progress bar to watch iTunes Plus updates get downloaded. I probably won't turn my computer off tonight if I'm not positive that my library has been updated.

Sharing an iTunes library between computers

is it possible to share a library btwn itunes apps on separate computers in the same house/wireless network?
not looking to trump the 5 computer limit, but trying to get two computers to show the same library between them. when i buy a song in one place, to show it as available to play on the other, too...also making it possible to update ipods from both...
any thoughts would be great...

How do I get 'lost' songs to reappear in my iTunes library?

I have files that have stored themselves into different folders within the iTunes Music folder(C:\Documents and Settings\admin\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\iTunes Music) and many of the songs in this folder do not appear in my library. I need to know where to move the folders so they re-appear in the library.
This comment on the help menu makes no sense to me:
"Here are ways to make your songs appear in the library again:
■ Drag your iTunes folder (by default, located inside My Documents/My Music) to the iTunes window. You will see the songs in your library again. If the iTunes Library file was included, you'll also see your original playlists."
I do not know what it means by "drag your iTunes folder to the iTunes window". What is the iTunes window? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question!

Similarly, some imported albums store themselves in a 'compilation' folder or under 'Various Artists' - even when it's different albums for the same artist - how do I successfully move these to their logical place so they appear where they should??

Hi, welcome to Apple discussions.
If files that you added to iTunes are going missing, one possible candidate is Windows Media Player. Both iTunes & WMP have options that enable them to rearrange files based on the contents of the tags. If you let WMP move files however they will be "lost" to iTunes, whereas if iTunes moves a file WMP will have a good chance of finding it again.
You'll find Windows Media Player & iTunes play happier together if you make sure WMP doesn't make any automated changes to your tags. Open WMP, go to *Library > Options* and in the section *Automatic media information updates for files* remove any ticks agaisnt the following:
- Retrieve additional information from the Internet
- Rename music files using rip music settings
- Rearrange music in the rip music folder, using rip music settings
- Maintain my star ratings as global ratings in files
I also make the WMP Rip folder match the main iTunes\iTunes Music folder.
Hopefully that should stop matters getting worse. It's not always that easy to work out where the missing files have moved from or where they might be now. The following method should help identify which files are no longer where iTunes expects them to be and which are not currently connected - you can use this information to help you restore things, or just use the tools to update the library with the current locations of the files.

This suggestion is the "drag & drop" equivalent of File... Add to library... "iTunes\iTunes Music" which would find any files within the iTunes Music folders that are not in your library, no use if WMP has moved them elsewhere and may also import duplicates in some circumstances. I'd ignore the suggestion.

iTunes uses the Gracenote database to get CD information. Sometimes this marks ordinary albums as "Compilations" when they aren't, most often becasue they are anthologies. If iTunes thinks an albums is a compilation it will put it in the compilations folder, otherwise it uses the Album Artist or Artist together with the Album name.
If you're lettig iTunes "Keep the iTunes music folder organised" then updating the values of Track Name, Track No., Artist, Album Artist, Album, Disc. No. & Part of a compilation flag will cause the tracks to be moved & renamed. If you manage you libray manualy, put things where you want, delete moved items and reimport from the new location. I go for full manual control, but it's up to you. In principle it really shouldn't matter where things are stored as you will be using an application to access them rather than browsing for the files. Having all you media organised within the iTunes & iTunes Music folders does make it easier to back up or relocate the entire library however, hence my suggestion to relocate the default RIP folder for WMP.

After adding a folder to my iTunes Library

I have iTunes 7.
I added a folder to my iTunes Library, and all the songs in the folder are already in the music library.
My question is this: I keep downloading and putting more songs very often in the folder in my pc that I already added but when i open iTunes and sync my iPod, iTunes does not add the most recent songs. I have to keep adding the whole folder again or adding individual files in order to have the most recent songs in my iPod.
Is there a way to update all the songs automatically from the folder you already added to the music library to iTunes?

Itunes doesn't monitor folders for additions, so you have to do it yourself or go for a thirdparty solution such as iTunes Library Updater

Itunes library is gone

When I tryed to sync my Ipod, nothing happened. So I unpluged my Ipod and rebooted the system. Now I have no music library and no playlists etc. My Ipod is frozen on the do not disconnect screen. I think I really screwed something up here. Can anyone out there help?

Restore that backup you take regularly... Ah, OK.
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes. In the *Previous iTunes Libraries* folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename *iTunes Library.itl* as *iTunes Library (Empty).itl* and then rename the restored file as *iTunes Library.itl*. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.

*Fast backup for iTunes library (Windows Only)*
Grab SyncToy 2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time. And if your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes.

Previous itunes library question/ erased itunes library

i accidentally erased my i tunes library. now i have a previous itunes library icon in my...my music folder with all my old file names, and when i try to import the old files off a cd my library still recognized the songs i chose off that cd. is there any way to get those files back onto my library with the contents of that icon or any other way? please help!

# of MP3's in iTunes Library is not equal to # of MP3's in iTunes folder.

This brings about another question of which songs were in folders that were not in my iTunes library. I from time to time go to file, Add Folder To Library and choose the iTunes library just to make sure that songs that were suppose to be deleted got left behind and remained in the main iTunes folder. I have enabled to *Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized* & *Copy Files To iTunes Music Folder When Adding To iTunes.*
After it's done, the total # of MP3's in the main iTunes folder isn't the same # calculated in iTunes at the bottom of the library. Does this make sense to anyone who can respond? Feel free to ask me to explain further in detail.

Either tool should give you an idea as to what might be different. What neither will help with however is you've managed to add the same physical files multiple times. It's not that easy to do but it is possible. E.g. move a file, add it from the new location, then repair the link in the original entry - upshot two entries for the same file.

i have five previous itunes library database files dated back to as far as 2006. when i try to open them, itunes opens, but nothing happens. i have tried to copy the file and open it that way, but nothing happens then either. how can i restore these files and retrieve the music?!? please help!

ITunes library file corrupt after updating?

Just the other day I updated to the latest iTunes software. This is the first time I've tried to use it and it keeps freezing (the swirly rainbow icon) until I eventually have to give up and force quit. My iTunes library is on an external hard drive which has admittedly been taking longer and longer to boot up each time I connect it, I don't know if this is related.
After doing some research on here I created a new test iTunes library on my hard drive and it worked perfectly, so it must be a corrupt library file? I followed the advice on an old thread and replaced the corrupt library file with an older one from December.
It worked....but here's the complication. Since that last backup in December I started using iTunes Match. When I opened the older library file, I saw that iTunes Match wasn't turned on, so I turned it on and it was saying that none of my library had been uploaded to iCloud except for iTunes purchases. I quickly exited, because frankly I couldn't bear the thought of all my library having to be uploaded to iCloud again (it took days and days...and days!). The music is still on the iCloud, but if I open that older version of my iTunes library it doesn't seem to think that it is.
Any idea what I should do?
