ITunes 12.1.1 technical release notes

I'm interested in finding the technical release notes for the latest version of iTunes (12.1.1) and how it "fixes a problem with syncing contacts and calendars from Outlook to iOS devices" but cant to find anything anywhere on the web. I don't understand how an iTunes update could affect the iOS and outlook calendar sync issues we have been experiencing in our organization
Thanks

If you use iTunes to sync your Outlook calendar to your iOS device, it will fix an issue.
If you are not using iTunes to sync your Outlook calendar, it won't fix the issue you are having.

You would think they would be available from the download link location.

I agree and find it odd, but then, there is only the most rudimentary and superficial 'notes' -
iTunes 9 also includes many other improvements, such as HE-AAC encoding and playback, more flexibility with Smart Playlists rules, simpler organization of your media files inside an iTunes Media folder, and more.
Nothing like "fixed bug with using..."

  • ITunes Release Notes

Is there anywhere to get the detailed release notes for iTunes? I see that v.7.6.1 is out but all I can find for release notes is stuff about renting movies and "bug fixes", etc. I want to know what bugs were fixed. I have noticed that iTunes has been getting progressively worse in the performance category with just about every update...yet I keep updating thinking that the "bug fixes" may be addressing the issue. It now takes my iTunes (v.7.6.0.29) about 2 minutes to load up on a 3.0ghz Pentium 4 with 3 gb RAM when nothing else is even running (after a fresh reboot). In that 2 minute span, iTunes is frozen. It also seems to hang when I shut it down. I do have a large library of music (about 21,000 songs) and several playlists. Currently, my "iTunes Library.itl" file is 38,808 KB. I have tried deleting several playlists to shrink the size of the database file. I like the iTunes UI, but if these problems continue I think I'll be switching back to winamp or another media player. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

Apple has always been very tight-lipped about bug fixes in their releases. The exception is security updates. For these, they will typically reference a bug number from CVE or something.
But for bugs -- you will not get any info unless you are part of the beta seeding program.

  • Technical Preview Release Notes

Hello! When will be release notes for DPM TP published? I couldn't find any changes in the product by myself. Does anybody know what improvements to expect?
    http://exchange12rocks.org/ | http://about.me/exchange12rocks

JavaFX doc is currently not included in the jdk doc and is only available as part of an JavaFX ask install. So you get the latest doc when you install the preview sdk.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javafx/downloads/devpreview-1429449.html
I think the plan is to put the 2.2 javadoc as a download on the jdk download page when jdk7u6 is released.
If you find mismatched or incorrect doc in the preview release you can file a Jira issue to get it fixed or update the open source to submit a javadoc patch.

  • Release notes?

iTunes newbie wonders if Release Notes are posted anywhere, or whether I'm just supposed to take it on faith that it's worth downloading 58MB every other time I use the software.
Aside to ManfromOz: they locked that topic, preventing me from saying "Right On, Bro."
Aside to Ed2345: asking why we have to d/l and install 58MB every time IS a perfectly legitimate technical support question.
    TC

I agree, TechnoCult - it's a "double whammy" to have to download the whole thing, and to not even know why.
Thanks for your aside - I was in the process of adding something to that thread when it was mysteriously locked. Took me ages to find out that (a) allegedly only the originator can mark a thread as "answered", (b) mine was marked "assumed answered" (by person unknown), (c) there IS a provision for the originator to change it back to "unanswered" (which I did), and (d) that doesn't make any difference! (It's now "unanswered" but still locked!) And hardly any other threads have been locked.
But I'm still working on it.
Thanks also for the second "aside", though it goes beyond what you said - that person chose to NOT quote the rest of the sentence from the Terms of Use, which also covers feedback and suggestions. And the same person has many posts on these forums that are in no way even vaguely technical or feedback.
In fact, if I was a conspiracy theorist, I'd wonder why the thread got locked while I was in the middle of a reply pointing those things out (in a bit more detail). Notice how while we type, the "draft" is automatically "saved" every few seconds? I wonder where to? (My network activity meter shows Internet UPloading occurring every time the "Draft saved at hh:mm" notice updates itself.)
Of course if you're reading this it might disprove such sabotage. But if YOUR thread now gets locked, it may be my fault.
Sorry if that got off-topic. I'm just a bit annoyed at the moment. Apple seems to be jealous of the criticisms leveled at Microsoft.
    Yes, Release Notes please.
PS - I'm told that Apple doesn't pay much attention to issues raised here, but that they sometimes look at http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html where I've tried submitting some of the more "it would be nice/better if..." concerns.

  • ITunes 10.6.3.25 is not syncing/freezes every time!

    Tech Stats:
    Windows 7 (32-bit) on a Toshiba Notebook
32GB iPod Touch - purchased in April 2012
    iTunes 10.6.3.25
I'm running iTunes 10.6.3.25 on Windows 7 (32-bit), trying to sync a 32GB iPod Touch. It detects the iPod and 'starts' the sync with the candy cane-striped bar, but then it freezes.
    It generally varies between:
    "Preparing to Sync"
    "Determining tracks to sync"
    "Backup"
    "Checking Downloads"
    "Waiting for sync to start"
"Waiting for changes to be applied"
before it freezes completely and/or won't do ANYTHING. I either have to Ctrl+Alt+Del to stop it (as it comes up 'Not Responding' in Windows Task Manager) or disconnect the iPod from the USB port altogether, whereupon iTunes starts to work again.
There is a VERY RARE occasion when it will start to sync music - 'Syncing music to "My iPod" (Step 5 of 5)', 'Copying 3 of 1233' - then freeze and show "Finishing sync" with the candy cane-striped bar moving for a LONG time, never stopping, and it's only synced a few songs (on one occasion, the max. number of synced songs was 33 out of over 1200). Space and capacity on the iPod is never an issue as I rarely have an iPod (any model) filled to capacity. I still have about 28GB of space left.
A couple of times while the candy cane bar is churning away, I've attempted to eject the iPod. Of course I was asked if I was sure I wanted to and I clicked 'yes', and it came up with a green scrolling bar that said 'Syncing iPod'. It kept scrolling forever with no end in sight. I ended up disconnecting the iPod.
I've tried each of these steps several times:
    Rebooting my laptop.
    Restarting iTunes.
    Resetting my iPod.
    Using different USB ports.
    Using different USB cables.
Re-installing 10.6.3.25 without uninstalling it - Downloading it from Apple and choosing the 'Repair' option.
    Using iTunes in Safe Mode.
Deleting and resetting sync history in iTunes.
    Wi-Fi Sync.
Uninstalling iTunes and going back to an old version (10.5.3.3) - still couldn't sync.
Uninstalling ALL iTunes components as per these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.
    Re-installing 10.6.3.25.
My ABSOLUTE LAST, bottom-of-the-barrel option would be restoring my iPod completely. However, I AM apprehensive about doing this.
I've never had trouble with iTunes before. Only recently (10.6.3.25 and the version prior) did I have trouble syncing, where I connected the iPod and it took several clicks of the 'Sync' button before it would finish it completely without freezing or doing it 'piece-by-piece'. My Firewall settings have never had an impact on anything to do with iTunes.
I HAVE noticed, however, that every so often, my Anti-Virus program (McAfee) will come up with a red warning saying that my 'Real Time Scanning' has been turned off and that my computer is at risk. So I turn it back on again, but it doesn't make a difference to anything. Since I was infected with malware late last year, I don't want to risk getting something nasty again.
I DID, however, lose a few playlists from the current iTunes AND my iPod recently and got them back by following the instructions on this site: http://osxdaily.com/2010/12/07/itunes-playlists-disappeared-recover-missing-itun es-playlists/. I got my playlists back but then this whole drama started with not being able to sync at all.
I'm at my wit's end, I can't figure out what's going on and I don't know what to do next.
EVERYTHING else on the iPod is working flawlessly - games, apps, I even kept my iBooks! - but the problem with syncing is BEYOND me. I've been scouring the internet for days trying to find something that'll help me fix this problem but to no avail.
So please, PLEASE help me! I'm begging you, any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

    Hey thanks for replying.
    Here's what I did:
First I tried the Winsock reset in the Command prompt. Nothing changed.
Next, I tried the instructions on http://http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123. The only other program that came up on the 'Winsock Providers' tab on the program was 2 Windows Live applications, which I can do without. So I deleted all Windows Live Applications.
I did the Winsock reset in the Command Prompt again and rebooted my comp.
Unfortunately, nothing has changed. iTunes keeps freezing at various stages of the sync, then shows the candy cane-striped bar with either the words 'Finishing sync' or 'Cancelling sync', before showing the Apple logo.
Sometimes, iTunes gets to the syncing stage - "Copying # of ####" - where it will trudge through the first, second and third tracks before flashing "Copying 4 of ####" for a split second and I catch "Cancelling sync" briefly before the Apple logo appears.
Again, I've repeated the steps I mentioned in my previous post. Does ANYONE know when the new version of iTunes is set to be released?! This one is driving me INSANE, to say the least!!

  • I tried for update but when i saw the screen its showing an arrow with a USB cable towards itunes icon, and now i'm not able to do anything, i also tried to connect ipad through my laptop but no use

i tried for update but when i saw the screen its showing an arrow with a USB cable towards itunes icon, and now i'm not able to do anything, i also tried to connect ipad through my laptop but no use

That message means that you have to restore the iPad now. There was a problem with the update. So connect the iPad to your computer and restore your iPad.
You can read bout it here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
If that does not work you will need recovery mode. You can read about it here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
Or you can follow these Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

while updating my ipad to new software through itunes it got stuck and does not work anymore - it just displays the screen with symbols of itunes and the cable to connect to it - help - what should i do?

Disconnect the iPad, do a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!, reconnect and follow the prompts.
If that does not work then see here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

I have tried to disable the setting for iTunes from being the default audio player but, it does not work.
After unchecking the box under:  Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced, clicked OK, closed iTunes and reopened it, the check box for this feature remains checked!
The older version of iTunes version 10 did work until I upgraded to this version (10.6.3.25).
I hope someone fixes or has a work around for this soon...It's really an inconvenience!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
Or roll back to the previous build:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)

  • ITunes 11 home sharing with iPhone not quite working

This morning I updated iTunes 11 to the newly released iTunes 11.1. I never could get home sharing to work with my iPhone 3GS (iOS 6.0.1). It would start to download the library information and then just stop. I used home sharing all the time so I was eagerly waiting for the fix many people seemed to need.
So...Now getting the library information seems to take a long time--5 minutes or so, but it does run to completion. But, my lists of Artists and Albums are incomplete. I haven't done a lot of testing but it seems that all of my tracks are listed under Songs, and all of the references in my Playlists open the correct tracks. For example, Charlie Musselwhite is not listed under Artists. His album One Night in America is not listed under Albums, but the song Blues Overtook Me is listed under songs and appears in the Playlists where it belongs and clicking it there plays the correct song with the correct album artwork. Once I'm playing the song, I can switch from the artwork to the album list and all the album's songs are there and are playable.
I haven't tested every song, but I've done enough to believe that all my tracks are accessible, even though only about 10% of the albums and artists are listed properly.
BTW: I believe that the Album and Artist lists are the ones I would get if I changed iTunes to share only selected playlists, but I haven't bothered to prove this.
What was a prohibitive problem has been made into a minor annoyance, but in case anyone form Apple reads this, let me say this. I have been an Apple user and fan from long before Apple made the first iPod or iMac, but I am incrasingly disappointed with the dumb things Apple now releases. In the past I never thought twice about updating the the latest version of anything, because whatever Apple released worked, and if there were a few minor bugs, new software never, never, never went backwards.
    Booooo, Apple.
From now on I will be letting others do your beta testing for you while I continue to use maps that get me where I want to go and applications that work as advertised without drawing me into spending hours getting back to where I was before an upgrade. The fact that it is no longer possible to revert to a previous, properly working version of iTunes has cemented my feeling that I will remain safely behind the leading edge.

just found it out after playing around to get itunes 11 to look like the older version go to view ( TOP LEFT )
and click on show sidebar and then click ON SHOW STATUS BAR ... Then go to file and sign out of home share and then sign in again ... thats it and your import and sttings and other boxs will reapear ...REMEMBER TO REPEAT THIS ON ALL COMPUTERS THAT ARE RUNNING ITUNES .........HOPE YA WIFE IS HAPPY ..MINE WAS ....

  • Itunes linking to home country site not the US site!

Can anyone answer the following or state how it can be changed on the box if due to settings?
itunes top music videos - this takes you to top music vids on the itunes USA site, not for instance the itunes UK site. Most if not all US vids are not available on the UK site. Yet the UK site has it's own top 10 vids that are available????
itunes top songs - same as above
itunes top movies - top 10 download for US site but point taken as no movies/tv shows yet available from UK site.
Imac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   Apple TV

Its a bit technical, so bear with me:
All users originate from a public IP address when accessing a site (be it web site, ecommerce site, bank, or iTunes).
That IP address can be revealed by going to a website like www.whatismyip.com.
From this IP address, Geo-location information can be gathered -- this means that it is possible (with a good degree of accuracy) to determine where in the world you are making your request from.
So, for example -- if you log into an ISP in the States, and hit www.cnn.com, you will appear as a US consumer in their log files. If you hit that web page from Hong Kong, they will know you're from Hong Kong. Some web sites will automatically redirect you to the nearest server to give you the best performance possible. Sometimes e-commerce sites will subscribe to a service, such as Quova to give them richer Geo-Location data about their consumers.
Here is an example of a Quova look-up for the www.apple.com IP address:
    Name: eg-www.apple.com
    IP Address: 17.112.152.32
    IP Type: Mapped
    Continent: north america
    Country: us
    Region: southwest
    Metro City: sacramento
    Metro State: ca
    State: ca
    City: sacramento
    Zip: 95899
    Latitude: 38.581902
    Longitude: -121.493500
    Timezone: -8.000000
    DMA: 862
    PMSA 6920
    Connection Type: tx
    Line Speed: high
    Top Level Domain: com
    Second Level Domain: apple
    IP Routing Method: international proxy
    AOL: 0
    ASN: 714
    Carrier: apple computer, inc.
    Area Code: 916
    Message: proxy
It tells us the following information: This host is connected via high speed ehternet (probably gigabit ethernet) to a data center operated by autonomous system number 714 (Apple Computer) in Sacramento, California in area code 916. The IP address is registering as a PROXY because it is believed that more than one machine is located behind that IP address. It is likely that this IP address is a virtual IP address on a load balancer for which there are multiple machines behind it (probably behind a Network Address Translator).
This information can be gathered for every user that hits the web site -- if it is determined that they originate in London, they can automatically direct you to a London version of the iTunes site regardless of what you may configure as your location.
IP addresses are managed at a high level by registrars around the world - there are many, ARIN in the US, RIPE in Europe, APNIC in Asia Pacific, etc. Generally speaking, Internet Providers are only supposed to allocate addresses out of ranges in the region they are currently sitting in. This becomes difficult when, for example, you are a provider which gives customers internet access by way of satellite. You may know that a single satellite can provide access for a large region - sometimes many countries simultaneously -- The question then becomes what IP allocations do you give. This is why you can not completely rely on information located at the registrar and companies such as Quova have been able to corner the market with Geolocation data. They collect information in many ways -- in addition to the registrars they also have analysts who continuously contribute to the information to make it more accurate. The database can be updated several times a month based on this new information.
Hope I've been able to help.
    Golan.

I am not able to sync my iphone 4s to my itunes because my mac software is not up to date. What do I need to do?

Is this a brand new phone?  If it is, which iTunes version does it say it requires (see side of box)?
With a Mac running 10.5.8 you can install the last version of iTunes 10.6
    iTunes 10.6.3.25 - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1575
An older iPhone 4S should work with the above but if it is a brand new one I don't know.  If the box says it requires iTunes 10.7 then you will have to upgrade to OSX 10.6.8 at least in order to run iTunes 10.7.  You provide no information about your computer hardware so I can't tell you if this is even possible.
    1) Make sure your computer meets Snow Leopard technical specifications - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575  This mostly means making sure it is an Intel Mac and has at least 1GB RAM (more is recommended).  To check RAM, go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then  "About This Mac". Now continue to "More Info...".  It should say you have at least 1GB of "memory".
    2) Apple no longer carries 10.6 in its stores or online. Telephone Apple to purchase a Snow Leopard disc. In the USA: (800) 676-2775 (contact information for other countries: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57)
Alternatively you can buy from online retailers but anticipate paying much more than the original price which is the price still charged by Apple
    3) Backing up your computer before upgrading is always a good idea.
    4) After installing from the DVD, update your Snow Leopard installation using Software Update or manually downloading and installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v.1.1 - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
