ITunes 12.1 won't play through bluetooth speakers

Ever since the latest iTunes update (12.1.0.71 64 bit), my music from iTunes won’t play through my bluetooth speaker connected to my laptop. Every other sound the computer makes plays through the speakers while iTunes plays through the laptop’s built in speakers. The speakers are also set as the default audio device for the computer. There aren’t any options in the iTunes preferences that would allow me to choose an audio device to play music through.
**My iTunes is operating on a Windows laptop and the bluetooth speakers are JBL if this helps, but everything was working fine until this new update**

There is an alternative version for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the most of the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version of 12.1.0.77 - including problems with Bluetooth speakers where either sound is degraded or completely absent.  The alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer.  The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to adjust the "Play audio using" selection (normally to "Direct Sound" rather than "Windows Audio Session", though this may vary based on your audio hardware/drivers) in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio - one part of the reported symptoms is that the "Direct Sound" choice isn't available, usually in Windows 8.  It may also be necessary to ensure that your Bluetooth speakers are active and selected as the default audio device before you run iTunes.
If this doesn't address the issue, you may want to think about reverting to iTunes 12.0 - see Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

Do you mean a USB adapter to send audio to the speakers?
You would need to use the audio control panel to send the computer audio to this output device.

  • ITunes 11.5.1 won't play through interface

I have a MBP. I upgraded to Mavericks after a crash. I've been selectively restoring items from the backup drive. I installed the latest version of apps, including iTunes, MainStage 3, and Guitar Band, and reinstalled Logic Pro 9, all from the App store. I have an M-audio Firewire 410 hooked up to the computer to play through studio speakers. Everything always worked fine.
Now, when I play iTunes through the built-in speakers, it works fine. But when I change the output in system prefs to Firewire 410, iTunes won't play any songs. The play icon turns into a pause icon, but the song isn't playing. It just freezes at the beginning of the song.
I have reinstalled the Firewire 410 drivers, reinstalled iTunes, and repaired permissions a couple of times. I'm not sure what else to try.

    Hello LBV123,
The next step would be to report the issue to the folks in the iTunes Store, as detailed in the article below.

  • Ipod won't play through headphones anymore... and I JUST bought it!

I just bought my 5th Gen. ipod nano a week ago and was working fine. After I had used it on my ihome docking station, it won't play through my headphones anymore.... I use the ear buds that came with it- all the player does is imediatly play through the speaker- is there a setting or something where I can hear through the ear buds? I know I have the earbuds pushed into the jack all the way, I can actually hear some music in the earbuds (just not very loud). What can I do?

Sorry, allow me to ask you a question, have you tried to increase the volume of the iPod, if Yes, then bring it for service ... it is a hardware issue

  • I have just updated my iTunes and it won't play any of my songs. What do I do?

I have just updated my iTunes and it won't play any of my songs, It will say that it is but the time does not move along and the sound does not play. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it but it hasn't worked. What do I do?

    Hey B Noir!
Changing the 3D worked for me!
I am so glad that I ran across your post. I had been reading "solutions" to this problem all day, and most of them said to install/unistall/re-install itunes! No way! I knew there had to be an easier way, and you had it. Just a few clicks, and that was it.
    Thank you for your help!
    God bless.

  • Can software be downgraded?  New version won't allow iPod to be played through my speakers.

I'm not sure what version iOS my 4th Gen iPod Touch came with, but since upgrading to 4.3.1 it won't play through my Logitech Pure-Fi speakers.  Upgrading to 4.3.3 doesn't offer any features I need, so I'd liek to hear from someone who could step me through reverting back to an earlier version of software.
    Is this even possible?
    Thanks ;-)

There is no legitimate way to downgrade an iOS.  Sorry.

  • Downloaded tv show from itunes and it won't play on my mac, just a black screen

downloaded tv show from itunes and it won't play on my mac, just a black screen

Did you burn the CD as an audio CD?
If not, that's your problem. Otherwise, without more details I can only guess. You might try a different brand of disk, or if you're using CD-RW try CD-R.
    Regards.

  • ITunes 7.4 won't play music videos

When I doubleclick on a music video, iTunes 7.4 won't play the video, only the music. Music videos where playing fine with prior versions of iTunes. No matter which option I choose in the Video Playback preferences, iTunes won't launch the video. Restarting iTunes didn't bring back music video playback either. Podcasts and Movies are playing just fine though.
    Any help ?
    Thanks

I had the same problem and I landed here - OS10.7, had iTunes 10.5.2 *thinking* it was playing - acts like it was?, shows pause icon - no audio, no actual playback.  ...Scrubber dot didn't move onPlay click. (And, dam, I was hungry for music!), but..  That's where I discovered it.  Of course, I had browser audio probs, too - YouTube, Hulu - and Skype - any app output audio was affected...
I struggled with this for at least a day!  Frustrated, I took out my other OS10 boot drives and tried troubleshooting...  No dice.  I halted CoreAudioD (whew) out of desperation...  I checked my audio lines..  Then I remembered I installed a trial of ProTools with an Avid audio driver (maybe looking for Digi-approved devices) at around the time of trouble.
My SysPref audio panel was showing only Avid's device - no line in, no ext spkr..  So, I ran the ProTools uninstaller to try that. That's where EVERYTHING went back to absolutely normal! (After the restart).  SysPref Audio panel shows all!  I selected LineOut (for me), and I got it.
iTunes and other audio-service-consuming apps suddenly didn't take 4 minutes to launch!, and my Lion install was like I first had it.  ProTools has a dedicated uninstaller - install that clean.  If you have a PT install that works, check the iLok config - my iLok is active and attached, but not for PT 10.  Maybe it's avid device->CoreAudio, may it's due to the PT trial???... Whatever it was, for me, the problem lied there.
Hope that helps any of you guys.  Good luck and thanks for the direction, bros..

  • ITunes ONLY plays through internal speakers, system plays through line out

I have my system setup to play through my stereo. I launched iTunes today and it gave me the "accept terms & conditions" as if I had just downloaded a new upgrade (I didn't - have been running 7.4.2 perfectly since Sep 10 2007). I agreed, iTunes starts up ok with library intact. BUT; When I press play, the sound started playing through my skype phone! I plug out the skype phone and it plays through the internal speakers.
I checked sys prefs and it's ticked for line out, and, surely, when I press the volume button it adjusts through the stereo speakers (as does everything else except iTunes now).
I tried playing with the skype phone settings but they were all fine.
Does anyone know what's happening here?
edit: strange - I quit iTunes and it asks me "keep new settings or old settings". I keep old, restart iTunes and it plays through the speakers again. There are no settings in iTunes to change output as far as I can see. I thought I'd leave this post in case anyone else comes across this. odd, but sorted ?

    sorted itself on restart

  • The New Mail sound won't play through SoundSticks

After many many years of using Eudora as my E-mail client, I have finally switched to Apple's Mail. So far, so good, EXCEPT for an inability to have Mail's "New Mail" sound play through my SoundStick USB speakers.
I should mention that I use a "dummy plug" plugged into the front headphone jack of my G5 so that I don't have to listen to the startup bong when I turn the computer on. This has never been a problem because I use SoundSticks for my audio and, since the G5 can't "see" the SoundSticks when you first turn the G5 on, no bong through the SoundSticks either. Once the computer is up and running, all audio comes out of the SoundSticks. This is true of all of the alert sounds my Mac makes too. Even the "Send Mail" sound (swooshing plane) plays through the SoundSticks as it should.
But the sound I have selected for "New Mail" (no matter which sound I select) just won't play through the SoundSticks. If I unplug the dummy plug from the headphone jack I can then hear the "New Mail" sound through the internal speaker. But I don't want to hear it that way (and I don't want to permanently remove the dummy plug either).
Why is it that Mail's "New Mail" sound is the ONLY bit of Audio that I've found that WON'T play through my SoundSticks?
    Help!
    Mark
P.S. A friend of mine is having the exact same problem with a G4 connected to SoundSticks. He says "HELP" too!

    Anyone?

  • IPhone 4 won't play through speakers

Recently, wheneven I dock my iPhone 4 into a docking station, it will not play through the speakers. It will charge. I had this checked by the Apple Store and they said that all the settings are correct and there is no damage to the pins. I have tried docking in a Fidelio and and Sony docking station. No sound comes out through the speakers but, again, the iPhone is charging. Can anybody help with this? The Apple person suggested it maybe something to do with the Bluetooth but I've turned that off and on, and it doesn't make a difference. Thank you for any help or suggestions.

    Have you tried a reboot
Hold home+ sleep button down ,ignore slide to off until the Apple logo appears then release
Generally if you get no replies it will be because now one has a clue with the info you have provided
ie as in what troubleshooting have you done .
